About

Hailing from the Tumet tribe of the Azim Steppe, Arvan is a relatively recent immigrant to Aldenard. Driven by the desire to conquer personal setbacks, this Xaela woman emigrated from her homeland after forfeiting her tribal name, opting to identify as arvankhoër. Over the course of dwelling abroad, Eorzean influence would have the syllables in her name evenly split to form a given name and surname: Arvan Khoer.

Physical Traits & Clothing

Edging the average au ri woman by a few ilms in height, Arvan is possessed of a taut physique, weighing as heavy as she appears. Body lined densely with scales she takes regular care to trim, her posture appears proud and statuesque when the sheen of these scales are visible from beneath her clothing, though it is rare for her to show very much skin due to work circumstances.

Working primarily out of Coerthas, Arvan weathers the extreme cold by outfitting herself with thick beast pelts. In environments of mild or warmer weather, an ornate outfit paired with sandals provide for ease of movement. A pair of sheathed knives, one for gutting and another for butchering, are bound to her thigh at all times for the sole benefit of field dressing. Wary of being stared at in public, she prefers to keep concealed the plate of scales leading up to her jawbone.

She has recently acquired a proper suit of armor to better defend against the aggression of her quarries. Despite having all but given up on trying not to alarm wary Ishgardian citizens with her 'dravanic features', she occasionally wears a steel mask as a mere courtesy to any attention that might be drawn to the queer glower of her eyes.

Voice

Arvan's voice can be referenced from that of Margaret (voiced by Michelle Ann Dunphy.)

Quirks

  • Capable of eating like an hibernating beast - though contrary to popular belief, her appetite is in fact satiable.
  • Awfully moody during her annual moulting. Usually disappears somewhere for this duration of time - as if her presence in populated locales isn't rare enough.
  • Has a distinctly slow speech pattern, making it seem like she condescends to speak to people. As she is illiterate and still communicates by translating words from her mother language in her head, her word use can be somewhat stiff.

A lone wolf, Arvan is both hardy and headstrong, her temperament almost entirely ungovernable except by those of whom she keeps close to heart. Stern and proud of her heritage, she nonetheless keeps an open mind and seeks to appreciate culture shock, demonstrating thoughtfulness through her acceptance of the unconventional or undesirable. Once dependent and a crybaby, Arvan is slowly learning to heal from her insecurities and celebrate triumphs of all proportions - though there remains a rare impish and petty quality that she may never outgrow.

For Arvan, pushing her own limits to the point of clear self-abasement is almost a norm. Though her stubborn and introverted qualities precede her, less plain to see is how easily her emotions are affected. Her insensitivity towards the confidence people vest in her lead to untimely absences when her strengths are required of her. While bluntly confident of her capabilities, her confidence is limited to self-preservation, and her failings are usually derived from her inability to shoulder responsibility over other lives, adding to her self-isolating behaviour. Despite her muted kindness, she has few heroic qualities, being somewhat unreliable as an '11th hour hero'.

She is known to occasionally exhibit 'territorial' moods over those she is fond of. Her competitive retaliation towards those who slight the pride of her and hers should be a surprise to none save for people who do not understand her. Prone to stalking and striking when least anticipated, the scale of damage caused by her acts of vengeance can sometimes be exaggerated to a comical extent.

LIKES

Red meat
Ballads and arias
Like-minded simpletons...

Heavy texts & learning; having to think too hard
Picky eaters
Insincerity
The size of her own tail (too fat? too thin?)

OTHER

Alignment: True neutral
Faults: Inconstant and elusive
Favorite Flavors: No particular preference
Favorite Color: The white of Raen scales

Prior to the Rite (Childhood)

The second child born to a couple of the Tumet tribe's finest horsemen, Arvan took her first independent breath on Hydaelyn from within her family's yurt. From the moment of birth was the young Xaela girl a treasure to her brother, with whom she shared 9 years of difference in age. Growing up, her upbringing was one filled with love and magnificence, for even with a pair of older parents who had always been strict with her learning and diet, Arvan never needed to search far for the finest of role models, which she found in her brother.

What discipline Arvan lacked in the social crafts of sewing and weaving, she made up for in hunting, gathering, and eating. Born with an irregular appetite that always left her hungry, she could consume whole sheep in one sitting if left to do so, and often whinged when working on an empty stomach - though never in the presence of her honorable brother, who was considered a champion among the children of his age. Later, as puberty and the Tumet rite of passage approached, Arvan herself would prove to be not only a peer, but a superior, to him in strength and achievement both.

The developments wrought by adolescence upon Arvan's body were tumultuous. Wild were her spates of hunger; her growth spurt put her several ilms above the average girl, a height considered ungainly given norms; and most sudden was the change in her physical strength, which now seemed comically proportionate to the amounts of food she consumed. Capable of immobilizing some of the burliest bökh wrestlers, it came to the attention of the tribal shaman that her instincts had picked up on the utilization of her own Aether as a primal force for fighting and defense. When asked how she achieved this much, she merely testified to being so hungry she had clenched her gut; stamped her foot out of petulance; and the next thing remembered was coming to exhausted in a small crater in the ground.

After the Rite (Youth)

Arvan's success in the rite of passage came as a surprise to no one, but rather a spectacle to those who cared. Proof of her determination to rejoin her tribe as a true Tumet child lingers to this day, visible as rope burn scarring over her body. Sustaining tissue injury in the process of forcing her bindings, it took Arvan close to a full moon to reunite with her tribe after fending off ravenous hyenas and wandering the steppe. And thus did Tsolmon Tumet come to be: by 15, this young woman became a lauded champion of the hunt, favored by the Tumet shamans for her 'closeness' to the Nhaama, the Dusk Mother. Together with her brother, who had by then earned himself high martial station as the leader of a brigade of warriors, Tsolmon raised the prestige of her family - though this good fortune would come to an abrupt end during her first, and final, participation in the annual Naadam.

Not even the Nhaama's gifts would help Tsolmon's overzealous and disoriented fighting. This in the midst of the great chaos of the Naadam cost Tsolmon an eye - the left eye of her brother, who covered her from a spate of Qestiri arrows loosed upon her turned back. Though there was no victory to be had from the event and still more loss for Tsolmon's family that year, the handicap to her brother's eyesight rendered him no less capable a leader and fighter, nor would anyone hold her accountable for this loss. Though Tsolmon begged and had granted to her her wish to become her brother's partner, she proved herself incapable of 'acting as' his missing eye, and in a freak accident during a garula hunt the elder Tumet wound up permanently wounded, immobile for life. Shortly, the tragedy of plummeting from a feared Tumet horseman to a useless paraplegic drove him into deep despair.

She would plead with her brother not to take his own life. Haunted by the thought that she of all people had robbed the tribe of one of its finest, she renounced her tribal name, intent on reclaiming it only once redeeming herself somehow. With her aging parents fixated on treating her brother and no one in her sect resourceful enough to aid her troubles, Tsolmon, now Arvan once more, consulted with the elders, arriving at the solution that she must part with her tribe in search of some means of healing that might restore her brother's command over his body. It is also during these travels that she will search for people capable refining her strengths so that she might demonstrate herself a proper asset, not detriment, to her and hers.

- Eritani Haragin:

- Zarga: Arvan Khoer's beloved and benevolent older brother. In the distant past, he was as gifted a warrior as they come, having famously brought his child sister into the Naadam strapped on his back to show her the glory of the battlefield. Needless to say, he capably preserved his and his sister’s lives throughout the event, giving her the spectacle of a lifetime, and the strong aspiration to one day become like him.

- Shaar Jhungid: A Thavnairian citizen and traveler who had been a valid member of the Jhungid tribe for only 2 days since birth. The origin of his relations to the Tumet tribe odd, Shaar is a close friend and confidant of around 3 years to Arvan's brother who went as far as donning an eyepatch in respect of the latter's loss in the Naadam. When Arvan left the Tumets, it was Zarga's earnest request that saw Shaar accompanying her journey. Although Shaar had never liked her, watching her slow and lonely growth has softened his opinion of her, and he now regards her with an almost paternal care. Though she loves him as her own sibling as well, Arvan recognizes that his cunning nature makes him unfit to be a moral compass to be relied on, even if he only means the best.

Shalarissa Evermore: A jeweler with a mouth on her, Shalarissa is counted among the unlikely few of Arvan's trusted Eorzean companions due to the Seeker of Sun's intelligence and the sheer force of her personality. Arvan is prone, always with a blank expression, to affectionately calling her a 'royal meddler' to her face when the Miqo'te insists on citing the strength of their shared bond - though it helps to know that Arvan only deigns to show her flippant sense of humor to those of whom she deeply treasures.
