let me know what you think. I really want to flesh this out a lot more, but I am trying to think of good ways to do this without just being wordy.

Religion/philosophy: Follower of the Twelve with emphasis on Llymlaen, the Navigator due to his maritime roots. While he has never been overly reliant on his belief in the Twelve Rogier does feel keeping in their good graces can't hurt his use of the Arcanum.

Laterality: favors right hand.

Clothes: He most often wears self-made cloth and refuses to wear armour. He is quoted as saying that "the power of the Arcanum will protect him more than any armour could".

Personality

Behaviors:He tends to lock himself away for weeks on end and work out information pertaining to his spells. He is also know to do extensive studies on the way that magic affects the local monsters.  He has also been looking into the more ancient aspects of the Arcanum and some of the naturally magical creatures such as fairies.

When in the company of other people he is likely to remain quiet and simply watch the others until he has something worth saying. He rarely shows his emotions and will be more likely to completely ignore someone that has angered him than to respond with what most would consider typical responses (though he will respond with violence  if he sees no other alternative.)

Morals: He could be listed as Lawful Neutral, but he is known to bend the rules of one set of laws in favor of another set that suits his needs. An example of this would be how he explains that his father was not a criminal, Since the laws of the pirate community state that theft of Limsa's goods was legal he is not a criminal (even though it is clearly illegal in Limsa's laws). He sees the Pirates as another set of standards unto themselves and therefore no more held to the laws of Limsa than the Garlean empire is held to those laws.

 

Mind: Generally quite smart, aspiring to be a grand tactician. He seeks to regain the renown once held by arcanist for their use of magic to help even the most mundane sailors fend off grand naval fleets.

History

The calamity:
 Rogier was 18 when the calamity struck Eorzea. His father was at sea and has yet to be found. Rogier search for a few years and in that time found several texts describing the origins of carbuncle. He lost track of his plan to find his father and began looking further into his study of magic, even go so far as to travel to the southern seas. Though he searched Rogier was unable to find the place of origin for his use of the Arcanum. With a new grimoire in hand he set out to return to his homeland of Limsa Lominsa…

Mother: Eleanor Du Anjou (aka EL or Anj)

            Born: Gridania 1510

  Occupation: healer in Limsa

Back ground: El grew up in Gridania under the supervision of the Conjurors guild. She spent 25 years training in the healing arts until she was asked to go to Limsa as an Aide to the yellow jackets. She would be stationed near the docks to help with ships returning from pirate attacks.  She met Rogier's father while healing a group of people rescued from a pirate attack. She later learned that he was one of the pirates when the yellow jackets told her that there was one more survivor than was on the ships manifest. They were looking for the extra man under the assumption that he was either a stowaway or a pirate. The yellow jackets never did find him, but El would bump into him again in the markets a few weeks later. Their romance started with her trying to correct him roguish behaviors, and while he did start going on fewer raids she never completely broke him of wanting the excitement of boarding another ship to lute and plunder.

 

Father: Talmont LeCard

            Born: Limsa Lominsa 1507

  Occupation: Pirate

 Background: Talmont grew up outside of Limsa in a very poor family. While he was out playing pirates with his friends one day an old man told them that if they really wanted to be a pirate, they should follow him. Being young and stupid Talmont followed the old man (though his friends stayed behind). He met one of the pirate groups and at first thought they were just a bunch of ugly drunks. However, When Talmont was in his twenties that same group of drunkards looked like a lot of fun. During a raid the day of the battle of Carteneau he was lost at sea and has neither been found alive or dead.

Moderate/Heavy preferred. I'm not 'always' IC when you run into me, though. It's usually quite obvious, because I tend to abuse smilies or speak in [brackets] if I'm not IC.

I still want to progress in-game, so feel free to send me an OOC tell asking me to party, NM hunt, do leves, or whatever. However, do note that I enjoy doing these things IC too!

Friendships, Enemies, Employers/Commissioners, Recruiters, Seething hatred, Family-ties, People to explore with... Give me some drama, casual, raids, whatever! I honestly just want to RP. It doesn't have to be complicated, long-term; even interactions in passing just add so much life to the game!

How far from the actual lore are you willing to stray?

I like the lore, and I would like to stay as close to the lore as possible, however I'm not perfect and we are still learning about it, so I understand character development/changes as we learn more. I believe that what makes a great RPer is someone who can work within the bounds of the universe we are playing in, rather than push it to the breaking point.
