'''Escape to Limsa:''' In tears, and learning of just how deep and corrupt (and hated) their family was, they abandoned their position after killing their friend (though their friend gave it a little push) and fled to Limsa Lominsa, the only boat they could take, shortly before the uprising in Doma. There, they made a living doing honest work in the trades, shelving their daggers. It was during one of the trade jobs they met a conjurer who noticed their talent with magics and offered a few healing lessons in exchange for the repairs and work they did. They became friends over the time and convincing him/her to come to Gridania and study conjury was easy. He/she sought out healing, feeling as though they found a sort of redemption for their auctions. However, one cannot run from their past.

'''Journey to Gridania:''' After that night, Hitomi was given the title Ninja, an honor in her clan. She was told she had done well. Quick, mess-free. Simple. The clan had no place for people like Astra and many more would surely take her place. They were proud to know Hitomi was in line to take control of the clan should anything happen to her parents.

Hitomi saw the title as a reminder of that night. A memory she could not escape. It ate away at her as time went on and she realised that she could not pursue this path if it meant such sacrifices had to be made. Not if it meant deceiving others, taking on personas, pretending to be what she was not and ultimately getting her hands dirty in place of another. A life in the shadows was not what she wished for.

'''Present:''' In Doma, their family was one of the first to rebel and thus caused a massive wipe under Garlean hands. The few that remained sought refuge in Eorzea, particularly their younger sibling whom they had left the legacy to. Seeing them in the boat of refugees when they came to offer their primed healing services; instant recognition. Immediate distrust, and long ago repressed memories flood back. The sibling was left alone and despite the relations they shared as children, those were nothing more than memory in their eyes. He/she said they would fulfil one request as payment for their siblings sacrifice, and upon meeting, they wanted only one thing: Return to the clan and help us rebuild. This meant returning to the life of the dagger, even more useful he/she was for their new healing talents. Undoing years of good service for the sake of a promise and blood ties... The hope of convincing them to dissolve the clan or let them go. The journey has yet begun.

So, Hitomi slipped out late one night just a little before the Doma uprising, a small bag of belongings in hand. She left a note, so tey would not worry, but she knew they would pursue her. That in mind, she took a small boat heading to Gridania, hoping she could get lost in the trees.

As a child they were timid but a good study, doing as others willed of them. When their friend in question was executed, they became scared and shameful. Angry at their clan that they once held in high regard, they fled, their cowardice getting the better of them, and arrived in Limsa. In Limsa, they sought to pass their days quietly, learning smithing and armorcraft as a trade, for their hands were strong from constant training. They met a conjurer who needed a rush repair job but had no gil, so in exchange they showed them a few healing spells in which he/she had a knack for, their attachment to wanting to do right and closeness to the water and wind of Limsa fuelling their aptitude. They were convinced to travel to Gridania and found the guild, learning and feeling they were making a difference.

Doma: The early years Hitomi's early life was surrounded in shadows. Her father and mother were at the head of a ninja clan consisting of hyur and au ra that specialized in assassination techniques and she was taught them at an early age. Everyone in the clan had to know them so in case something happened, their art would not be lost. They took on assassination jobs against the encroaching garleans, putting their skills and beliefs on the table to be used.

Growing up in secrecy and surrounded by suspicion (a ninja couldn't be too careful) it was difficult to get close to Hitomi. Only one girl managed to befriend her, a young hyur called Astra Baker. She had come into the clan at the age of seven, Hitomi's clan members finding her next to her parent's bodies and an upturned carriage after a garlean raid. She was taken back to the main camp and given shelter in exchange for her baking skills.

Being one of the few children in the clan at the time and having many stories to share of the outside world, Hitomi grew curious and approached her. They became friends over ginger cookies and pineapple ponzecakes.

As they grew older, they grew closer and had many an adventure together, but their peaceful days were not to last.

When they come of age, members of the clan must begin to undertake assignments, it's what they've been trained for after all. Hitomi was no different. Though initially excited to finally be let out into the field, something she had been talking about with Astra for the past week, she was horrified to discover who her target was.

It had been discovered that Astra was a garlean spy, planted in the camp at an early age to gain their trust. After all, who would suspect a young girl who had just lost their parents in what appeared to be a Garlean attack?

Hitomi immediately went to Astra, requesting her presence in her room. She slammed the door shut, dagger in her hand. Astra stood by the window overlooking the river outside, a cool breeze filtered through. Hitomi remembers how there was no moon that night, as though hiding itself from the scene about to unfold. Astra herself had a puzzled look on her face, seeing Hitomi's strange expression. She bit back hesitation and asked Astra if she was truly a garlean spy.

The wide-eyed look Hitomi recieved in response was all she needed to confirm her suspicions.

Astra came clean; it was a ruse, or at least, it had stated out that way, but she hadn't expected it to go so far and for so long. She didn't think she would be welcomed so kindly, to be trusted so easily. It was so different from where she had come from. She didn't expect to find friendship in her enemy's clan.

She didn't expect to find love...

Struck with grief, Hitomi didn't know what to believe. She was happy, sad, angry, hurt. All her emotions swirled inside her and she stood still as a statue.

"I don't know what to do." Hitomi whispered, tears flowing from her eyes.

"You have to do your job. Better than how I've done mine." Astra replied with that crooked smile Hitomi knew so well.

Hitomi knew it. Telling Astra to run would make no difference. Leaving her alive would cause even more problems. Furthermore, if she ran the clan would know and they would both be condemned. The clan had no lenience for betrayal, not even for one of their own.

They both knew this.

Squeezing her eyes shut, Hitomi charged forwards, feeling the blade hit resistance for a split second before sinking deeper. She felt Astra's arms curl around her and soft lips touch hers.

"Congratulations on becoming a full ninja, Hitomi my love."

Astra leant back, eyes shutting, as she tumbled backwards out of the window. Hitomi could only stand there, unmoving as the splash fell on deaf ears.

Instead, Hitomi collapsed to her knees and cried.

Journey to Gridania: After that night, Hitomi was given the title Ninja, an honor in her clan.

So, Hitomi slipped out late one night just a little before the Doma uprising, a small bag of belongings in hand. She left a note, so tey would not worry, but she knew they would pursue her. That in mind, she took a small boat heading to Gridania, hoping she could get lost in the trees.

Hitomi found solace in the Conjurers' Guild, learning she had a talent for magic. There she shelved her daggers, hoping to never have to pull them out, and began life anew as a Conjurer-in-training. She took up a few trades to help support herself and quickly eased into Gridanian life. Hitomi felt she had found a sort of redemption from her past with each person she helped, be it by repairing their equipment or healing their wounds.

Present: Back in Doma, Hitomi's clan was the first to rebel against the Garlean forces. They suffered great losses and those that remained sought refuge away from Doma. Of Hitomi's family, only her younger sibling managed to flee with a few of their retainers and a handful of their clan members intact.

Hitomi was shocked to see them come off the boat of refugees, having been there to assist the other conjurers in healing. Old memories long since buried away surfaced and their sibling was furious. After all, because Hitomi fled, they were tasked with being the next head of the clan. The sibling bond they had before was brittle.

Tensions were high between them, Hitomi unsure what to say. All she could do was apologize. Her sibling looked away before saying, if Hitomi truly wanted to apologize, she would return to the clan and help them rebuild. Hitomi's healing skills would be useful and she already knew many of their old techniques. Memories may fade, but the body still remembers.

Hitomi was faced with a decision. Undo the years of good service for the sake of blood ties, or turn her back once more on her family. The true journey has yet to begin.
