BASIC INFO

Appearance

At first glance, Locke Rinannis (LOK Rih-NAN-iss) is just like everyone else. His height is fairly average for a Hyur, and he has no overly distinguishable features save for a fair complexion and blond hair that drifts over his teal eyes. He tends keep his arms covered, wearing gloves or long sleeves almost all the time.

Characteristics

The fingers of his right hand sometimes twitch, though he either doesn't notice or tries not to mind.
A small purple-blue mammet trails never too far behind him.

Personality

Pleasant but distant: On a typical day, Locke is good company to have around. He'll make small talk as needed and seems to show genuine interest in other people. However, despite his amiability, he tries to avoid close relationships. He will maintain a state of acquaintance for as long as possible.
Peaceful: Locke can often be found sitting quietly or taking a walk around town, deep in thought or simply people-watching. He enjoys the company of others but doesn't force it.
Encouraging: Locke is an optimist. He's very good at seeing the positive side of things and always has a kind word to share.
Gullible: During his short time in Ul'dah, Locke has been mugged at least four times due to sob stories involving orphans. He'll believe any tale as long as it sounds at least halfway plausible.
Bad with names: Expect him to get your name wrong (or ask you) multiple times before he gets it down. (He has recently been attempting the tactic of using a person's name several times in a conversation to remember it better, and it seems to be helping.)
???: Sometimes he may seem a bit paranoid or weary. This is usually coupled with mumblings about needing to sleep and actively trying to avoid all contact with others.

Usual RP Locations

Not limited to, but good starting places to find him. Send a /tell if you'd like to meet somewhere!
Locke's Personal Room (The Goblet, Ward 3, Plot 10 - X:8, Y:10)
Ul'dah - Steps of Thal (The Coliseum - X:9, Y:11)
Western Thanalan (Silver Bazaar - X:15, Y:30)

COMBAT

Pacifist: In general, Locke dislikes violence and will avoid it when he can. However, he knows that it is sometimes necessary, and he will not hesitate to protect someone in danger.
Close-ranged: He has been known to carry a shield and short sword or a dagger, but Locke is most often seen without a weapon at all. He prefers to disarm or grapple enemies over stabbing them in the gut.
Low Aetheric Ability: Locke does not have any apparent potential for magic. There may be some latent within him, but any attempts to physically conjure have been met with minimal results. However, even though he's not very good at using aether himself, he is quite knowledgeable about the technical and historical details (mostly due to Romimo's ramblings). Likewise, he has grown accustomed to aetheric travel and feels little to no nausea from it.

BIOGRAPHY

(HEAVY WORK IN PROGRESS)
Locke is hesitant to speak of a few things concerning his past, but what is known is that he hails from Oakbarrow, a small town in the northeastern part of the Black Shroud, on the edge of Gridania's influence.
Oakbarrow had the unfortunate coincidence of being located near a newly formed—but weak—aetheric rift. On occasion, voidsent would force their way through the rift, terrorizing the town and sowing fear into its residents. Locke, and others, learned to fight back and gained practical fighting experience against the voidsent. They became quite good at it, actually.
After an undisclosed incident, Locke and Romimo both left their home and began traveling south. Eventually they reached Ul'dah, where Locke found work at the local Coliseum, repairing and maintaining its mammets and doing odd jobs.

RUMORS AND RELATIONSHIPS

Rumors

Some of these rumors maybe be untrue or simply stretched.
◢ Common Rumors (Easy to overhear)
"Hmm, nice guy! Very polite. Seemed pretty flustered though, like he was just trying to get out of here as soon as possible." - Momodi, proprietor of The Quicksand
"Yeah, Locke! I've met him a few times. He couldn't remember my name even once. I told him it was fine, but he still felt terrible for it." - Wolken, assistant at the Coliseum
"He helps around the coliseum. They treat him like a lackey over there, making him run around like a headless dodo... I don't think I've ever seen him unhappy about it, though. Guess he should feel lucky to get a job in Ul'dah so quickly!" - Jealous Juggernaut, merchant on Hustings Strip
"I always see him sitting alone. I don't think he's made very many friends since he moved to the city. Not sure why." - Rianne, merchant on Emerald Avenue
◢ Moderate Rumors (Difficult to overhear)
"Mm? I think I saw 'im at the Quicksand once. Had a drink like everyone else, but he put somethin' strange in it. Some kind o' white vial. I dunno, maybe 'tis a weird northern thing they do." - Silver Nettle, passerby on Ruby Road Exchange
"I heard he got exiled from his hometown and traveled all the way here to Ul'dah. What do you think he did to deserve that? It's like I always said, you can never trust the nice ones." - Unknown gossiper on Pearl Lane
"I saw him checking something with his mammet. He's got it programmed to keep track of... aether? Or whatsit? I'm not entirely sure what it's supposed to do." - Memenugu, resident of Fesca's Wash
◢ Rare Rumors (Nearly unheard)
"I seen 'is hand once. The right one, the twitchy one 'e's always got covered. It's got some sorta... disease, maybe. Coulda been a tattoo... Yeah, jes' say it was a tattoo..." - Unknown street urchin outside Ul'dah, Gate of Nald
◢ PC Rumors (Rumors from other player's characters)
"One of my best employees, as well as one of my most quiet ones. He has a unique charm all his own, and it's a wonder he doesn't have more active female pursuers." - Lilithium Altair

! Updated (2014 Nov. 9)

(Names are alphabetical according to color.)

Romimo Romi : Romimo is a smart and talented Lalafell with a penchant for magic. She and Locke grew up as close friends, and he sees her as a sort of younger sister. While the two have gone their separate ways since leaving their hometown, they do try to keep in touch every so often.
! Lilithium Altair : Locke's employer and leader of the Free Wing Society. He greatly respects Lili, and Locke has grown to trust her entirely--not just as his boss, but as a close friend as well. Her warmth and kindness has opened him up to her, and they have slowly become more affectionate over time. He feels very devoted to her, and he would not hesitate to be by her side at a moment's notice.
! Coraliza Velia : A fellow Free Wing who Locke used to see fairly often around the company house. They get along quite well, each apologetic and polite, and Locke feels comfortable both conversing with her or simply sitting together in mutual quiet. They have shared their stories and Locke believes that she is someone he can trust. Lately, he has only seen her on very brief occasions, but he would like to catch up with her when possible.
! Adokenai Kodomo : Lilithium's adopted Lalafellin child, Ado is a mischievous and curious boy who can always find an adventure. Locke thinks of him fondly, finding a little of his young self in the child.
! Kagewoe Erasus : One of the leaders of the Free Wings. Locke holds him in high regard, and the two seem to get along rather well. Locke's gullible side no doubt provides great fodder for Kage's sadistic ways.
Miata Luna : This energetic young Miqo'te musician often bumps into Locke around Ul'dah. The two have spent quite some time together, eventually trusting each other enough to disclose information about their pasts. Locke is still reluctant to say much, but he has given her a small black vial for safekeeping.
Caelia Isularie : He first met Caelia en route to the Burning Wall with a few of the other Flame Yataghans. Once they parted, he did not hear from her for many months until running into her at the Yataghan barracks. The two briefly exchanged kind words, but nothing more.
Dweia Delacroix : Locke has met and assisted Dweia on a couple occasions, but the interactions have been minimal. After showing great interest in Locke's mammet, Dweia offered to fund Locke's research into building more advanced mammets. However, Locke has not yet found the time to follow up on her request.
Elsa Vause : A wandering, homeless conjurer who Locke took under his care for an evening, giving her a tour of Ul'dah and buying her a room at the inn. Locke has not see her since.
Ennara Calian : As a fellow Free Wing, Locke sees this Highlander around the company house fairly often. They have conversed on a personal level only once, and Locke would like to work alongside her more.
Iona C'mokkri : A feisty Miqo'te who competes regularly at the Coliseum. The two pass by each other on occasion, but due to Iona's popularity and success as a gladiator, Locke has difficulty getting to know her better. She can also be quite abrasive toward him, which leaves him feeling a little apprehensive.
! Kaohastraal vas Aeseroix (aka "Sitting Ox" aka "Ghislan Nightwing") : A formidable Roegadyn (now Highlander) with a history immersed in matters of the void. Locke tends to feel a little uncomfortable around Kaohastraal, though he tries not to show it. Since the matter concerning his change to Highlander, Locke feels more unsettled than ever before, trying to carefully work through the situation considering his growing relationship with Lilithium Altair.
! Kal Numara : Locke enjoys being around Kal, a fierce and boisterous Highlander woman. Her good-natured and brutally honest attitude tends to put him in good spirits.
Kale Aideron : Locke is only somewhat acquainted with Kale, the commander (at the time) of Ul'dah's Flame Yataghans. After an incident at the Burning Wall several moons ago, Locke has not seen or heard from him.
: ! Katiti Kati : As a Lalafellin schoolteacher in the Free Wing Society, Katiti is someone who Locke thinks highly of. He appreciates her responsible and matter-of-fact personality, but he can't say that he knows her well at all.
! Khrys Relanah : A Seeker Miqo'te who purchased Locke at the Free Wing Society Date Auction. After a pleasant date with Khrys, the two parted ways feeling more acquainted with each other. He bumped into her again while finding out that she had joined the Free Wing Society, but he has not seen her since her orientation.
! Liandri Mei : A spirited Miqo'te, and Free Wing co-worker, who Locke has observed getting into trouble on multiple occasions. Although he does not agree with her aggressive attitude, he sees no reason to judge her and leaves her to her own devices. He has seen first-hand just a piece of what she is capable of, and it fills him with unease.
Mizore Dorne : Aside from working together on a mission from the Free Wing Society, Locke has not had much opportunity to talk with Mizore. She did, however, leave a lasting mark on him by being unabashedly flirtatious. She also appeared to him through a strange magic to comfort him while he was troubled, but Locke has yet to question her about it in person.
Nako'li Chalahko : One of the leaders of the Flame Yataghans. He only saw this Miqo'te on occasion after the assignment at the Burning Wall.
Nymira Valeroyant : Although Locke does not know Nymira well, he respects her as both a Free Wing leader and an experienced physician. She seems very kind, but Locke can't say much more than that.
Toff Vaughnn : Locke and this Keeper Miqo'te have exchanged small conversation in passing, and their personalities seem to balance each other well. Unfortunately, time nor opportunity has arisen to progress the relationship further.

CONNECTIONS

(aka "Where have I seen this guy before?")

Thanalan

Ul'dah, The Coliseum : When Locke arrived in Ul'dah, he shortly after became employed by its local coliseum. Mostly, he did odd jobs, but he soon acquainted himself with the staff and showed interest in the establishment's combat mammets. They offered to teach him how to maintain them, and Locke began growing in his knowledge of the machines. Despite this new skill, Locke can still often be seen running around Thanalan as the Coliseum's errand boy.
Ul'dah, The Flame Yataghans : For a small while, Locke associated himself with this Ul'dahn military group. He never officially enlisted, but due to being in the right place at the right time, he sometimes found himself on escort or scouting missions with them. The commander, Dweia Delacroix, might remember his name if asked.
Free Wing Society : (Current FC) A company specializing in job placement with a 'Jack of All Trades' mentality led by Lilithium Altair. Locke has participated in several missions and odd jobs and can seen around Eorzea alongside several of its members. He may also be spotted at the company's house in the Goblet, whether he's meeting a group for a job, or just relaxing inside or outside.
Ul'dah, The Goldsmith's Guild : Because of Locke's interest and quick learning of mammets, the Coliseum procured an apprenticeship at the local Goldsmith's Guild. He spends many evenings there researching.

The Black Shroud

Gridania : Before Locke resided in Ul'dah, someone could have spotted him passing through Gridania with a green-haired Lalafell. They only stayed in the city long enough to resupply and rest before traveling south to Thanalan.

La Noscea

Costa del Sol : Thanks to the Free Wing Society's outreach, Locke has made trips to Costa del Sol for several beach parties and fundraisers. He may have been seen participating in their Date Auction or annual Fish Fry.
