Note from Y'lani's Player: Hey! This wiki is a big WIP, so don't rely on too much of this! After all, you can always meet Y'lani up out of character and get to know her that way if you're ever interested. I appreciate all private messages (if they're appropriate and friendly) so you don't ever have to be nervous about sending me one.
Please note: Some of the following information is OUT OF CHARACTER information, provided for those players who are interested in learning more about this character. I kindly ask for readers to respect this fact and refrain from misusing this article.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Brought up with a strong will, Y'lani is persistent and pragmatic. She is like a lioness; she is willing to fight for what she wants done, but unwilling to stop until the battle is in her favor tenfold. Conversely, this makes her brash, blunt, and occasionally unaware of what is "okay" in an insidious society brimming with political corruption and intrigue. Underneath her stony demeanor is a desire for people to be happy in the world, and she believes that the swiftest way to happiness is a freedom purged of all fraud and demoralization.
In recent times, this way of thinking has kept her in the city of Ul'dah, unable to leave it alone for too long with its present corruption and conflict. It has given her a lively life, perfect for a lass who bores easily and needs ample activity to keep passionate for her trade.

L I K E S

Poetry. To her, a piece of poetry is not unlike a silent song. The prose both excites and challenges her, driving her to meet new ends with her own hymns.
Planning. Although she frequently forgets to do it, nothing calms her more than to see an event planned. Y'lani believes that improvisation is something that should be done in the heat of battle, not in presentations.
Performing. The spotlight, the eyes, the attention! There isn't anything she loves more than performing for others. In the beginning, she saw it as one way to get word out to the commonfolk, but it didn't take long for her to feel the excitement as well.

D I S L I K E S

Winter. Never having been exposed to the cold for too long, Y'lani vehemently despises any place that makes it no longer practical to wear her usual garments.
Limsa Lominsa. Known as the home of shanties, the Miqo'te is hard-pressed to admit that she dislikes the bustling city. The sea odor and the shouting from pirates and guards alike never ceases to make her cringe.
Exploitation. To trick, to blackmail, to slander the innocent to get what they want. She cannot and will not stand for this when she sees it happening, even going so far as being a nuisance in order to stop it.

M O T I V A T I O N S

Ridding Corruption. Nothing in the world makes her care as much as seeing corruption right before her eyes does. She has pledged her very self to liberate as much as she is able, having experienced it herself in a more familial setting.
Tribe. When she traveled away from her tribe, she promised her mother that she would return with more knowledge to help advance their culture.
Boredom. Frequently finding herself bored, the Miqo'te seeks to find something in the world that will never bore her.

S T R E N G T H S

Fighting. In the Jaguar tribe, she was taught a variety of combat styles, from brawling to archery.
Climbing. During her childhood, she would put on the leathers and scale desert trees to more effectively shoot her prey. It proved useful, being unable to take them head-on until she was older.
Swift Learner. It never took long for her to learn new methods in the tribe, albeit she did not take to many of the trades like a professional.

W E A K N E S S E S

Blunt. If one were to ask her a question, she would answer as directly and honestly as possible as long as it didn't infringe on any secrets she was trying to keep. "Does this dress make my butt look fat?" They'll ask. She'll respond, "Yes, it does. Was that your intention?"
Brash. She often acts without thinking, instead choosing to rely entirely on her instincts.
Magically Inable. Y'lani constantly finds herself with the inability to do magic, frustrating her at every turn. She can do no magic with a staff or tome and little magic with any other trade.

Q U I R K S

"Rescuing". It would be hard for her to say that she likes animals, but she has made a habit of always rescuing any stray animal -- or person -- that she sees.
Vocalizes. The Miqo'te has made a habit of singing while idling alone; she'll sing, but she won't notice herself doing it until the very last moment.
Claustrophobia. Small spaces make her frantic, but only if they're too small, such as closets, boxes, walk-in pantries, and more.

The equivalent of hand-to-hand combat. The Miqo'te saw this frequently in her tribe's tests of mettle, and always found herself fascinated by it. She yearned to learn, but the elders told her time and time again that she was too young for the art. It wasn't long until she began to practice in secret with her father, Y'kalihd, and when he died she seeked to continue to master it by advancing to pugilism.

Taught by two Tias in her tribe, on-and-off, she saw two sides of archery and took to it well. One Tia informed her that holding position with her shortbow will guarantee her the prey. The other Tia told her to simply leap in for the shot; you see an animal, you assume a position and you shoot. She took well to both, but often forgot which she must do in each session, eventually testing the patience of her mentors. This style of learning made her think about which would be better for the situation, rather than which is better as a whole.

L A N C I N G

Encouraged by her mother to take up the spear, Y'lani tried her hand at lancing for a time by practicing with the other Miqo'te in her tribe who had once specialized in the trade. Mercy had never been so sweet after this "life-threatening" experience. She knows how to wield the spear, but to use it... she was cut down before she ever had the chance to strike.

Some of these rumors are untrue, speculation, or are greatly exaggerated. Please feel free to add your own rumors under the Player Character category!
◢ Common Rumors - Easily overheard. Use these freely!
"Ehh, her? Heard that bard is one o' them traditional Miqo'te. Can't stand 'em. Always floppin' about, pretendin' to be better than us or somethin'... can't they all jus' be normal like tha' rest?" - Ul'dah Bartender.
"She is so rude! I asked her if I looked good tonight, and like all performers, she was supposed to say yes! Not a, you don't look good in yellow! I know who I'm never tipping." - Townslady.

◢ Uncommon Rumors - A little more difficult to hear. Use sparingly or ask first!
"That gal? Aw, yeah. Saw her wandering about in the lower wards at night, talkin' to some of the guys there. Hear they deal with the shadier things. Why'dya ask?" - Wandering Trader.
"Girl ain't got a head on her shoulders. Said she wanted to get rid of tha' corruption in Ul'dah. Like that's ever gonna happen!" - Petty Thief.

◢ Rare Rumors - Very rarely overheard. Please ask before using!
"That lass learned 'er trade from a criminal. Snuck into the prison and e'rything. Same ears, same eyes, you know the drill. Wonder what else she knows." - Apprehended Fugitive.
"Oh, Y'lani? Yeah... she was devastated when Y'kalihd died. All evidence says that he died fighting in the battle for the title of Nunh, but Y'lani claimed the Tia used poison to kill the Nunh. If you ask me, she's deluded." - Jaguar-Tribe Miqo'te.
