Yumera "Ryuelin" (pronounced/"yuu-me-rah roe-lynne"), known by many through the title of “the Woeful Maiden” as her surname entails, is a Raen descendant of the Au Ra. Presumably birthed in the Dravanian Forelands, the youngling was given the name Yumera by her brood-mother which is thought to mean “flame’s existence”. Though she led a much secluded life, after having endured unfathomable lose this being has become what many know as a “Harbinger of Darkness”. Those that may catch glimpse of her are to be warned: she is all too willing to coat the earth with bodies –no matter if they be guilty or innocent souls.

History

Over a millennium ago, preluding the war that ravaged the lands of the Dravanian Empire, a clan was born of the most unlikely of kin. Under the guidance of the brood-mother Nevryll, a small group of Raen discarded their solitary nature and gathered in the mountains of the Dravanian Forelands. Arriving at the peak of the autumn season, the beings chose to memorialize this moment and thus took on the name of Akiyama –meaning autumn hills. Out of the sight of prying eyes, the clan would prosper in tranquility for decades to come; but in time everything ends for a new chapter to begin.

Yrellian

Word soon reached the Akiyama of the chaos which ensued from humankind’s treachery, much news came with the hopes to recruit all those who sought vengeance for their kind. Despite many of the youngsters seeking to shed blood, Nevryll did not seek conflict but instead focused upon keeping this new haven from the eyes of mortals. A many few would leave her care to go and fight for their justice; however from those who remained new life was born. One such life came to be known as Yrellian, one who was born nearly three-hundred years after the start of the Dragonsong War. It was clear that this one was special, one that had a fate far grander than those who had come before. Nevryll was not wrong in this assumption and thus did she take the young whelp under her wing as one of her many disciples.

Excelling in the ways of magic, Yrellian would become one of the priestess' whose main purpose was to support the barrier which Nevryll constructed. Unfortunately, due to Yrellian’s carelessness when attempting to practice the creation of barriers, a lone dweller managed to enter the village. Though he bore no hostility, the Au Ra did not take kindly to his presence –except Yrellian. Per her request, Nevryll offered the man refuge amongst her brood in exchange that he but teach them of the world outside their own and of the conflict which raged around them. There was no hesitation in his accepting of such a generous offer. Most pleased with the outcome, Yrellian was the one whom remained by his side at all hours of the day: learning, observing. The man fascinated her, excited her, and it was quite clear that he too had taken a liking to the young Au Ra. Though a nomadic man, he remained in Nevryll’s care for many years –only lingering outside to search for new tales to tell to Yrellian. One day, however, the man did not return. Nevryll knew what this meant, but Yrellian could not accept such a fate –not for the one she loved. Still, time would pass and even she could not deny that he was no longer there with her.

Nearly four-hundred years had passed and Yrellian was given the choice: to linger in the past or seek comfort in the future. Having been lost for so long, she sought towards a better future. One such future came by the name of Ran-ko. Not two moons had passed since she had taken comfort in his arms and already she could feel something inside of her: she was with child. Although unsure of whether her heart could handle such a life, Yrellian did everything in her power to ensure that the life inside her did not dwindle. Three moons into her pregnancy, an unexpected visitor appeared within the confines of her home, a man who should have long since passed: her first love. Having fused with the eye of an ancient wyrm, the nomad had managed to continue living as a husk for all these years. Despite the consequence of his actions, Yrellian sought nothing more than to return to the nomad’s arms; however Ran-ko would not allow this to occur. Despite Yrellian’s pleas, the Akiyama gathered under Ran-ko’s plea and slew the nomad, avenging those who had fallen to his hands.

Crazed with grief at the loss of her lover, Yrellian attacked her kin with blind, corrupted rage. Fearing for the safety of her child the Raen did not retaliate, though such a decision shed much blood. For many moons the female rampaged, even going as far as to take on the form of her brood-mother and take flight against her. As Yrellian neared the day of birth, Nevryll took to the skies to calm her child to the ground –though sadly her efforts were to be in vein. The ancient was forced to use brute strength to bring her child down and Yrellian fell with grave wounds from the conflict. Several hours would pass as healers worked to save the life of both mother and child, yet only one would survive: a child who would come to be known as Yumera.

Without a mother, Yumera was bound to starve; however, as the clan saw responsibility in the death of her mother, the Akiyama came together as a whole to care for her. Each member would care for her as if she was their child, yet many could not bear to look her in the eyes. Not after what they had caused to her, to her mother. It was only Nevryll who truly taught her what it meant to have a mother. Nevryll did everything in her power to ensure that the youngling would not end up alone as her mother had. Yumera would be the first to have a personal servant: a Xaela by the name of Zuryen. She would also tread the same path as her mother once had, a disciple of Nevryll trained thoroughly in the art of magicka.

Though talented beyond measure, Yumera did have moments of failure just as her mother had. Once more, the failed creation of a barrier shattered the protection which surrounded the Akiyama’s home allowing a stranger into its midst. Having lost one of their own to such a being, Nevryll herself confronted the man and sought for him to turn back, yet he respectfully refused. Despite Nevryll’s warnings, the man would approach each day bearing gifts. After the sixth day of his attempts to win over Nevryll, Yumera approached where the man sat and kneeled across from him. Staring him down with a cautious eye, Yumera calmly appealed to Nevryll as to why the man was not a threat to them. It was the first time that Yumera had truly taken an interest in someone, and that was what truly worried her. Despite her hesitations, Nevryll once more offered refuge to an outsider; however, this time once inside he would not be allowed to leave. Ever. Having been given three days to decide, the man left the misty mountains to obtain his decision, leaving a once calm Yumera anxious for the first time in her life. It was clear what this man would mean to her, and she only hoped that he did not become the bane which caused her mother’s demise.

With the three days coming to a close, Yumera was found pacing outside the clan’s halls, waiting with anticipation for the man she knew would arrive. One hour passed, two, no sign of the nomad were to be seen. It was only when the sun had nearly set that a shadow fell upon her. The man had returned and with a stunning albino Chocobo, one who she would hold dear for the entirety of its life. After having accepted Nevryll’s terms, the nomad came to live side by side with the young Yumera, teaching her of the outside and in turn being taught by her. The pair shared everything: food, Chocobo, even the same room. He was the one she wished to spend eternity with, and the one who sought nothing more than to be by her side. Tranquility once more had set upon the clan -though it would not last long.

In the early morning, on a day like any other, fires erupted along the hillside waking the clan in a fit of chaos. At first many presumed it to be simple forest fires… till they came. Man had discovered their location when searching for the nests of dragons, and the Raen were close enough for them to take action. It took mere moments for the forest to be consumed by bloodshed, warriors taking up arms while many tried to gather the children to a safer location. Yumera was on the front lines as the troops advanced, and she was one of the first to be taken captive as the clan was forced to fall back –for she was no match for an army. They did not take her prisoner for information but so that she could be made as an example to those who were unable to fight: an example to show that this was the might of mankind. Yumera did not fight back, she knew that if she perished her death may very well save the life of those remaining or at the least that of her lover’s. As the blade came down upon her, a shadow bloated out the light above her and in the moments following she found herself unharmed. Gazing at the shadow before her, she discovered it to be none other than her love who had shielded her with his own body. The blow was fatal, that much she knew as he fell back into her tied hands. She could only watch in horror as the light slowly faded from his eyes, her body shaking as she tried to no avail to close his wounds.

Merely seconds after he had succumbed to his injury, Yumera snapped. There was no life before her that she could see without him; there was no happiness left to live for. Burning from the depth of her core came a fury unlike anything ever seen before, a destructive power so massive that it reduced the surrounding stone to ash. This fury drove her to madness, madness which could not be sated even after the intruders were slain. With naught but her clan left to draw her attention, Yumera was soon to stain her hands with the blood of innocents when Nevryll appeared before the crazed one. Once more the ancient fought with her kin for the sake of her brood; tooth and nail the pair would bleed till Nevryll could not take any more. She had already taken the life of one of her own, she could not take another. As Yumera’s rage reached its peak, Nevryll fell to Yumera's hands as a means to quench the undying thirst of the young whelp. With her brood-mother’s blood upon her hands, Yumera was drawn from her frenzied state only to be left in the wake of endless sorrow. With Nevryll about to take her last breath, Yumera took from the beast the one thing which would bind them together: her eyes. Consuming them along with flesh from the wyrm itself, Yumera would find herself devoid of everything that had given hope to her life.

Those of the Akiyama clan who survived the ordeal returned to find the blood upon Yumera’s hands and the first-hand account of the survivors; no matter how much guilt they had felt in the past, this atrocious crime could not go unpunished. After having lost her lover and her mother, Yumera found herself without a home or a clan. Exiled from her home with naught but her lover’s chocobo and her faithful servant, Yumera’s heart fell to a darkness which light could never again reach. It was this darkness which drew forth the worshipers of Zodiark: the Ascians. Seeking naught but to rid the world of mankind, Yumera was all too willing to fall into depravity for her vengeance. Fueled by an undying thirst and a bottomless pit of sorrow, the Ascians would bring her into their ranks as Yzellian, a warrior of darkness. Though she would take on both names as her own, never being able to forsake one for the other, she would remain to be known as Yumera least in the company of the Harbingers of Darkness. As the years passed many would come to know the Raen simply as Ryuelin, “the Woeful Maiden”: an explorer whose sorrow forever plasters her cold irises and whose rage forever fuels her hatred.

Appearance & Attitude

Relevant Information

For the most part, it is highly unlikely that you will come across this character. Due to the nature of her backstory, spotting her in a city is near impossible unless it is OOC. Though I am still open to RPing with her, as indicated by the creation of this page, for the most part there would be little interactions that do not concern the obliteration of any and all life. That is just how this character is, it just means that you should not expect nice "Oh hi there!" conversations or sitting around a cozy campfire. I also want to clarify that just because my character may be a harsh or rude does not mean that I am personally acting that way. There is a fine line between how my characters act and how I act. Please know this and do not take what is said IC personally.

Miscellaneous

* Yumera is rarely seen wandering the cities or any densely populated area. If seen there always seems to be a shroud of darkness around her eyes, acting as a mask (though it does very little good if she does not choose to hide her horns and scales).

* Till the Au Ra aging has been revealed, I find it best to just assume that they age almost identically to dragons though they may not survive as long. I found this site to hold the best knowledge of the separate types. http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:True_Dragon
