Character
♦ General
Growing up in the lush woodlands, his tribe wasn’t ever an outgoing one. Much of Ari’ya’s childhood was spent under full moons and winking stars with his family. He rarely took part in hunting or gathering, preferring to focus his skills on his artistry, or on mending frayed or broken clothing. Born the eighth son to his doting parents, his family was never a terribly close-knit one. He often tried to bond with his brothers, but as the youngest (no matter how old he was), his siblings would dismiss him as being ‘too young to understand’.
After the calamity, much of Ari’s family split. He followed one of his brothers to the forest city of Gridania, that served to be his home for some time, before he parted ways with his brother (a decision that certainly wasn’t his) and eventually, he found himself within Ul’dah, where he took up the profession of a street dancer to earn enough gil to afford the books and schooling needed to learn to be a Conjurer. With his weak grasp on magic, Ari’ya still has to focus on his dancing to get by, in a small encampment just outside of Ul’dah, his home is modest - though somehow, he has enough gil to keep himself fed, and to keep himself clothed.
A street dancer wouldn’t earn enough for that.
♦ Appearance
Modest of stature, on the shorter end for male Miqo’te, Ari’ya’s stature is lithe, and willowy. He hasn’t been built for direct combat, and that much is clear; though true to his roots - his form boasts of quiet agility; and his movements cultivate a characteristically Miqo’te kind of grace. Despite his often palpable lack of weaponry, he clothes himself in a typical Conjurer’s robes; white with dashes of red; tied in about the sway of his waist with a simple sash, studded with pins and badges of his very own addition.
His demeanour is far from put-together. At a glance, he might look the part of a haphazard vagabond in the first pair of robes he might have happened upon. But on closer inspection - it becomes impossibly clear that these small imperfections, these tears and these scuffs in his clothing and his shoes are all deliberate, or something he doesn’t exactly care to remedy - even if he could. The messy quiff to his rose quartz-coloured hair leaves him with a careless elegance. The white streaks of colour that tip the ends of his hair that he’ll inevitably end up brushing out of his eyes are deliberate, and even the paint upon the crest of his right cheek serves a purpose of its own.
His features are doubtlessly refined and delicate. With a pair of mismatched eyes (one the same shade of his hair, and one as blue as the Ul’dah sky), and a pair of full, pink-hued lips, arched (aristocratic) cheekbones, wide, almond-shaped eyes - complete with the Keeper’s signature rounded pupil, and a clean-shaven jaw, his features are only offset by a grizzly burn spanning over the hinge of his jaw, spreading down to the left side of his neck, something he (feebly) tries to cover with his hair, or with a scarf wider than his torso.
Both of his ears have been pierced a number of times. His left is studded with a simple, silver star, and a crescent shaped moon, while his right is adorned with a lone, hanging pearl. A piercing sits beneath the fuller bow of his lower lip, and his fingers are similarly adorned with a number of light-catching rings, each inlaid with a different gemstone. About his neck sits a crescent-moon pendant, complete with a smiling sun at its heart; such an accessory is rarely far from him, if it isn’t about his neck.
When clad in his dancer's attire, much of his form is visible, for he only seems to favour a pair of loose trousers when he performs. A piercing sits through his navel, a simple silver barbell - he adorns his chest and arms with threaded, silver chains for show. What leanness his body cultivates is never more obvious than when he dances.
♦ Behaviour
Ari’s mannerisms are difficult to ignore. He has always struggled with trying to conceal how he might truly feel. If he’s upset, it’s more than evident - if he’s happy, it’s difficult to ignore, if he’s angry—.. it’s a rare occurrence, but it’s just as difficult to ignore as the rest. His expressive features and his sympathetic ears and tail are often to blame. When he’s sad, his ears will tip back, and when he’s happy - they will rarely stop moving. Prone to hissing-fits in his quiet anger, he’s easy to soften; and when he does, his tail rapidly finds its way coiled around whomever might be closest as if in some quiet, furred apology.
Ari’ya has an inability to sit still. His hands have to be occupied, his tail has to be occupied (even if it’s only coiled around the leg of the chair he might be sitting upon, or his own leg). He’s animated and excitable, easy to approach, and easier yet to engage in conversation; ever eager to meet someone new, and even more eager to hear their tales. He’s prone to gesturing when telling his own stories, even to the point of knocking over pints of ale, and even chairs.
He’s horrendously clumsy, and often his tail is to blame - he merely forgets that he has to keep it close to his person when he’s indoors, and as a result - often ends up knocking over plants, weaponry, and more with just the turn of a shoulder, and the sway of his tail. He’s quick to apologise, and often in his blind haste to right his wrong, he might just end up making his already-messy situation even worse. Yet, despite his inability to compose his person and to walk through a room without tripping or knocking something over - he’s remarkably graceful when he wants to be. A proficient dancer, he knows how to move to music, and he thoroughly enjoys it - though once his music stops, his grace ceases to exist.
Combat
Hardly skilled in combat, Ari prefers to stay out of the fray. He tries to avoid conflict entirely if he can, though if he was ever caught in a situation where he had to fight back, his magic wouldn’t be his best defence. Most of his proficiency with his magic lies in healing. He knows few offensive spells, and has made it a new goal to learn to defend himself. He favours the elements for his protection, but even then - his control over them is wavering and feeble.
