Appearance & Personality

Rafiel is a Miqo'te of mixed heritage, having a Seeker of the Sun father and a mother who hailed from a Keeper tribe. He bears both the feline eyes and the tan complexion of his Seeker blood, as well as fanged canines and markings typical of a Keeper male. His golden locks fall wavy, at their longest reaching down to his lower back, although he often braids it in different styles to make it less of an obstacle in daily life. His turquoise eyes are much like his mother's were, with people she knew often commenting on their piercing gaze.

Rafiel is a man who has lost much in his life to the evils of Eorzea. The death of his parents during an attack on their cottage at the hands of the Ixal affected him heavily throughout his childhood, and has left him much more sensitive to the loss of others once he finally found his happiness again. Rafiel remembers them fondly, vowing to make his late parents proud by living a good and honest life by aiding others. He does occasionally fall foul of his emotions, as do all, but for the most part he is a kind and generous soul. His charitable personality has made him many friends throughout his life, as well as earning him much favour with the locals of Gridania.

Biography

Childhood

Born A'Rhaya Moshantu to mixed-tribe parents, Rafiel's first memories are of his grandmother's manor in Gridania, where he spent his first few years with his parents before they had a cottage built on the outskirts of the city, away from the judgemental eyes of the people there. Living a quiet, idyllic life in that cottage left Rafiel with a deep appreciation for nature and its many gifts. However, tragedy struck when the Ixal began to expand their territory, eventually showing their faces on the boundaries of the Lihzeh's land. As his parents prepared a move back into the city for the family's safety, a group of Ixal bandits descended upon their home in the night, starting fires across their land and surrounding the house. Help arrived from the nearby Wood Wailers encampment, but the squad of warriors were not swift enough to prevent both of Rafiel's parents falling to the blades of the beastmen as they tried to barricade their young son safe inside.

After being saved by the Wood Wailers, Rafiel was taken back to Gridania under their care. After several months of silence, the boy of just ten cycles began the process of healing and allowed himself to begin to move on. He was allowed to train with the Gods' Quiver once his skill with a bow was proven, and through his persistent demanding to be trained in Conjury as his mother was, he also took on lessons in healing magicks.

Teenage

Several years into his training with the Conjurer's Guild, Rafiel received the news that his grandmother had fallen ill and was soon to pass away. The young miqo'te began to visit her almost nightly until she died, and it was during this time that he came to understand the limits of healing magicks. The sole inheritor of his family's money, Rafiel returned

Present

During Operation Archon, Juvius' research center lost power as a result of the explosion as Ultima Weapon fell to the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. Powerless to contain him in his cell any more, the scientists at the facility were no match for Avery and his thirst for vengeance after years of torture. Armed with a firearm he lifted from a guard he killed with his bare hands, Avery proceeded to hunt down Juvius himself and put several hundred rounds into the man's body. Once the bloodbath was over, the miqo'te made off with a satchel of Garlean technology, with the view of using it to fund his freedom. However, the most valuable piece of all - Juvius' own creation, the Crystaltek Occulus, had been used to replace Avery's missing eye during one of the experiments. Deciding to put his new magitek addition to use, Avery parted with a few pieces of Garlean tech in exchange for a personal airship, and since then he has been roaming the skies above Dravania and Abalathia searching for treasure to make a living.
