Valena was once over confident but since the Calamity has become unsure of herself. She is good-natured and loyal but serious while working. She can be witty and sarcastic, especially around friends.

Background

Pre-Calamity:

Valena was born in Ala Mhigo to a coastal village in 1549. Her brother, Octavian, was born in 1553. When the Garleans attacked in 1557, Valena's father died to give his family time to escape to the water. They were saved by a Roegadyn named Moernmoen. He was the Chief Mate on the Styrjaega, a freelance ship from Limsa Lominsa, hired to scout the area. Moernmoen brought them to Limsa Lominsa. He continued to stay in touch with Valena's family and acted as a mentor to Valena.

A year later her mother met Victor Everardi, and soon remarried. Valena's Half-Sister, Camille Everardi, was born in 1560.

From an early age Valena took a strong interest in combat and battle tactics. She would rather swing a sword or practice symbols than play with her baby sister. She often begged grounded Malestrom crew to teach her. While they would entertain her requests with basic techniques, it wasn't until her 14th birthday that her mother allowed to study Arcanum and combat strategy. She trained religiously in her free time for her goal, to join the Crimson Fleet of Malestrom. Three years later, Valena left Lominsa and joined the Black Sails. Her brother joined her a few years later.

Valena volunteered for an infantry position for the Battle of Carteneau Fields. She knew the Eorzean Alliance was outnumbered, but she couldn't let her brother face it alone.

Post-Calamity:

During the Battle of Carteneau Fields Valena was mortally wounded. Having already witnessed her brother's last breathe and believing herself to be dead either way, she pushed herself to fight until she could no longer raise her weapon. This plan was ruined when Dalamud exploded.

When Valena regained her senses, she found herself in her hysteric sister's arms and dying from her wounds. She was saved, but not without loosing the use of her left leg and much of her strength. Ashamed by her new weakness and mourning the death of her brother, she left Camille's care as soon as she was able.

• R'kyala Mahji - Valena knows her as Camille's close friend. Valena, surprisingly, enjoys her company and treats her as another sister to be protected.

• Camille Everardi - Valena's younger Half-Sister. Valena is over protective of her sister since her return from Carteneau, although they have never been close.
