Character

General Information

Height: 5 fulms 3 ilms

Weight: 115 ponz

Orientation: Homosexual

Occupation: Alchemist, Thaumaturge, Researcher

Appearance

Pale haired and deeply tanned, E'lario makes a striking first impression, though his slight stature often has him peering curiously up at those around him with bright disparately colored eyes, one a deep blue, the other a vibrant green. His build is delicate, hands small, deft and uncalloused. He seems more suited to turning a page than swinging a sword. A single faded scar runs up the side of his left cheek, from his jaw line to just under the eye, slightly marring an otherwise attractive face.

Personality

E'lario is usually friendly, though he can easily be flustered or embarrassed with unfamiliar situations, or certain subjects, causing him to blush often, rub the tip of his ear in a nervous tick, or even begin to panic. He hates to offend others and will always take the path of least resistance, enduring personal inconveniences as long as everyone else is happy. Arguments tend to frighten him and he himself will very rarely, if at all, argue. He is much more likely to be subservient, changing based on other's wants or needs and will seldom make demands. He is very slow to show any sort of true emotions, and rarely will he express himself openly. Flashes of genuine emotion are sometimes seen, though they tend to disappear quickly, buried beneath an awkward smile or a nervous shift, and it takes a lot of abuse for him to finally snap. While discussing something like his research however, he seems much more at ease, even confident, able to talk for hours on end, though he is just as happy to listen, and being more analytically-inclined he tends to offer advice without judgement.

History

E'lario in traditional Eft tribe garb.

Growing up in the Sagolii

Lario was born to the Eft tribe on the borders of the Sagolii Deseret in Southern Thanalan along with his twin sister Lari. Their childhood was difficult, especially for E'lario, being the smallest of the young males in his tribe and constantly outshone by his sister in nearly all things, the only solace he had were the many books kept by his increasingly distant mother. His father, E'sero Nunh, would often try to give lessons to his son, though E'lario's constant failures at the even the simplest hunting tactics would quickly wear thin on the brutal man, often resulting in a swift beating. By his early teens, E'lario had learned how to tread lightly around his father, keeping his distance and burying himself in his books when he could.

However, there were always times when simply avoiding E'sero wasn't possible. After E'lario had left a bow strung and without waxing and returning to his books, his father flew into one of his usual rages, until finally his sister stepped between them. Unfortunately this only seemed to anger their father more as he turned his fury on E'lari. Seeing one of the very few people E'lario genuinely cared for struck because of him caused the young man to snap. At the age of 16 he challenged his father for the title of Nunh, knowing that his father would not be able to decline. While brave perhaps, E'lario was no match for the experienced Nunh. He was quickly and humiliatingly defeated, his father leaving a mocking scar on his left cheek and a promise to kill him whenever he could find time to even make the effort.

Fearing for his life, he fled from the Eft, making his way through the desert and towards the City of Ul'dah with hopes of becoming strong enough to successfully challenge his father again.

Ul'dah: Jewel of the Desert

Living on Pearl Lane.

Arriving in Ul'dah with little to nothing to his name E'lario quickly found himself with the rest of the dregs of society on Pearl Lane, his dreams of becoming something more rapidly dashed on the dirty sandstone streets. Being young, meek, and starving, he would often take any and all work that came his way, whether legal or not. During a rather ambitious theft with one of the Pearl Lane gangs, E'lario found himself face to face with an innumerable amount of books and dazzling equipment inside the Alchemist's Guild. Nearly overwhelmed, he quickly and secretly pocketed as many books as he could. Afterwards, he poured over the texts learning as much as possible, hungry for any sort of knowledge after having nothing to distract his mind from survival for nearly a year. He soon found he had a talent in mixing poisons, a fact the Syndicate became aware of. The were only too happy to have a skilled alchemist that would be easily disposed of should anything happen.

For a time, E'lario would mix poisons, receive payment and have little contact with his employers. Soon however, one of their members took a liking to the young Miqo'te and promised to take him under his wing. Their relationship was innocent at first, though it quickly became apparent that the man was much more interested in other things and after a rather violent altercation, E'lario found himself on the wrong side of a prominent Syndicate member. Fearing that he would soon out live his usefulness, he tried to find sanctuary with the Thaumaturge Guild, hoping that their influence would be enough to stay the Syndicate's hand. While the guild was little thrilled about the arrangement, they agreed to take the young man in and allow him to train providing that he help with any and all menial requests that may be asked of him. E'lario quickly agreed, throwing himself head first into training and discovering what would soon become almost an obsession: The aetheric flows and properties crystals.

The Signing Shards.

"Crystal Enthusiast" : Recent Events

E'lario spends much of his time burying himself in his research, particularly with the crystals of the Singing Shards in Mor Dhona as well as any that have to do with the calamity, such as the recent formations in Thanalan and Coerthas. To fund his expeditions he will still on occasion mix and sell potions, as well as provide consulting on all manners of crystals. He has recently started his own trading company, Gold Coeurl Ventures, that sells rare and unusual crystals as well as potions and antidotes with co-founder and business partner Dietrich Dracht. He now works tirelessly trying to procure contacts and business deals to help the company flourish.

Relationships

  • Dietrich Dracht : A fellow student of the Ossuary, though E'lario met him at the Quicksand trying to sell potions. He was soon impressed by Dietrich's intelligence and quick wit and agree to hire him as a research assistant. Their relationship is somewhat peculiar, one moment showing a deep respect, the next hurling snide remarks at each other. They also seem to have a physical attraction to one another, though E'lario's embarrassment at such things in the public arena makes it hard to tell if there is anything more than just idle flirting. E'lario founded Gold Coeurl Ventures with Dietrich's encouragement and the two now run the trading company together.
  • Jhae'li Vyen : A young Keeper of the Moon met through Dietrich, who suggested the Miqo'te for hired labor to bring on expeditions. He soon earned his keep with his skills at procuring excellent samples from even the most difficult to reach crystal formations. E'lario holds a soft spot for the little Keeper, reminding him of his former self. Quiet, shy, and wary. He hopes to gain Jhae'li's trust, wishing to know just a little bit more about the Keeper and his unusual traditions.
  • Little Kenny : E'lario met Kenneth when the young Hyur and Jhae'li had borrowed one of his books with out permission. While he suspects Kenny to be nothing more than a petty thief and outlandish liar, he enjoys the young man's company and hearing just what ridiculous thing will come out of his mouth next. E'lario is often seen calling Kenny a “Hero”, most likely a playful term of affection gotten from one of Kenny's many stories.
  • Avalt Laguz : The mage Avalt was met during E'lario's time as a consultant for the Immortal Flames. He is curious but wary of the strange man, wanting to learn more about the secrets he holds, both in regards to his skill with lightening magics and his odd up bringing. While E'lario greatly respects Avalt's power, and genuinely finds his company pleasant (most of the time), he thinks the mage is more than a little crazed.
  • K'hatos Tia : A very strange Miqo'te E'lario first came into contact with when Kraz'a had asked for his assistance in hunting K'hatos down for a bounty. Their first encounter put the two at odds, though a chance meeting in Ul'dah sometime later gave them a chance to start over. At first E'lario was wary of the rather violent Miqo'te but they soon started to share a mutual respect for one another. Their bond is an odd one, but E'lario seems to greatly enjoy the fellow Seeker of the Sun's companionship.
  • Kraz'a Axrial : E'lario's former romantic partner. The two shared a pleasant relationship until events caused a rift. His stubborness and anger at Kraz'a finally severed their partnership. The two eventually came back to agreeable terms, though they no longer speak. While E'lario doesn't blame Kraz'a, his experience lead him to be less than thrilled at prospect of another committed relationship.
  • Vincent Belsara : A flirtatious young Hyur E'lario met in the Quicksand. Vincent seems to try everything he can to get the Miqo'te to blush, which isn't too hard. At first E'lario thought there was little more to the man than rum and (overt) innuendo, but as he spent more time with the Hyur he soon found him to be a caring and just individual. While E'lario doesn't particularly agree with all Vincent stands for (profit is important!), he does respect anyone who stays true to what they believe is right.
  • Oni De'phor : E'lario met Oni in one of the strange man's many violent episodes. It took a great deal of time for him to trust that the Hyur was truly not completely insane, possessed, or otherwise. Oni's magitek arms most likely helped the Miqo'te get over his initial fear, curiosity at the mechanics finally winning over. The two now share a budding friendship, though E'lario is still a bit wary of him and the one he calls Raiden.
  • Aimee Peltier : A friend of Oni De'phor, E'lario's first encounter with Aimee left him thinking she was blind to reason and had something of a death wish. His opinion of her has gotten somewhat better, and though the two still butt heads, he finds her to be generally pleasant and caring. If only she would listen to his advice.
