Nothing else feels more like home to Ariuni than the seeing people bustle about to and fro, merchants calling out for wares to purchase and the scents of spice, sweat, perfume, sand and leather all mingling in the air. ■ The ocean. The years Ariuni has spent at sea has solidified into a love for the fresh salty smell of the ocean and the feel of the ocean breeze toying with locks of hair. ■ Clear night skies. When she used to be at sea, Ariuni would often be assigned the night watch and as such spent hours on the forecastle gazing at the stars to pass the time, reciting known constellations and honing her skills at guiding by the way of stars. Even now she often spends evenings somewhere of the reach of the lights from the city to gaze up at the stars. ■ Closing a deal. Nothing gets Ariuni's mood going better than the successful closing of a business deal or purchase of valuables that bring in a hefty sum of gil. ■ Mint Lassi. "A cool and refreshing drink made from cultured milk. Popular in the Near Eastern city-state of Radz-at-Han for its ability to offset the blistering heat of the Thavnairian midday sun." ■ Loose, revealing clothing. Ariuni's style is heavily influenced by Thavnairian fashions and as such prefers to wear clothes that feel comfortable to wear, yet show a good amount of skin, both for practicality and to show of her body. She is a savvy merchant and is not above using a little tease to get that purchase. Her outfits are often accented with expensive gold jewellery that hints at her steadily growing wealth. ■ People using a nickname rather than her full name. Given how Ariuni has had multiple aliases over the course of her life and has not used her real name in over 10 years, she much prefers to be called by a nickname rather than a full name. Even her current alias is just that — an alias. ■ Laughing. While Ariuni is be rumoured to be ruthless in business, one of the things she values most in another person is the ability to make her laugh. Be it a simple joke or one that leaves her wheezing for her breath. ■ Money. It's her way of life. D I S L I K E S ■ Chocobos. As with many others who hail from Othard, the Au Ra distrusts the horsebirds — otherwise known as chocobos. Ariuni much prefers the use of horses as she as years of experience handling them unlike Chocobos. As such, she will go out of her way to avoid having to use them, despite being well aware they are the cheaper and prime means of transportation in Eorzea. ■ Idiots. There is not much that needs to be said on the matter. Ariuni has no patience for them and will not suffer their presence overtly long. ■ Other raens. Ariuni has a distrust towards other Doman Raens due to the status of her family. She does not want the possibility of being recognized — however unlikely, and despite of how many years it has been. While she has not used her birth-name since the day she left her old life behind, the chance of being recognized is still present and as such she minimizes the interactions she has with them. ■ Male chauvinism. Having experience quite enough of this during her childhood from members of her own family, Ariuni cannot stand for it — be it towards herself or towards others. It is one of the few instances of where she might intervene on the behalf of a stranger. ■ Being tied down. In the years of being free from her previous fate of an arranged marriage Ariuni has grown a distaste for the whole idea of marriage and long-term relationships. While she might not be opposed to the matter in a literal sense, she will go above and beyond to avoid being tied down to someone in a relationship. ■ Being asked or forced to disclose her past. If there is one subject guaranteed to make Ariuni uncomfortable, it is the matter of her past. There is no one alive with whom the Au Ra has shared it with — and it is her intent to keep it that way. ■ . M O T I V A T I O N ■ Retaining her freedom of life. After a childhood of having Ariuni's entire future planned out for her and the hours of her days scheduled ahead for weeks at a time, being able to retain the freedom she currently has is perhaps the most important thing to her. It is the underlying goal behind many, if not most, of her decisions and choices that she makes. ■ Money. Money is one of Ariuni's prime motivators. On the surface it seems that achieving it is the only thing that matters to the Au Ra. But behind it all is the knowledge that money makes other people hesitate to touch her, it gives a layer of security and protection. It gives a certain power — a power she intends to use to make sure that nothing that comes her way will be able to make a mess of the life she has built for herself. ■ . S T R E N G T H ■ Pragmatic. A thorough education and years of experience has given Ariuni the ability to deal with problems and situations in a pragmatic manner, using logic and reason, rather than relying on ideas and theories. ■ Loyal. While Ariuni trusts but a handful of people, she is loyal to those who have managed to carve their way past her defences. Unlike with others, she will not lie, cheat or betray them. ■ Protective. As with Ariuni's loyalty, she offers her protection to those who — against all odds — have managed to earn it. ■ Combat. Fighting has for the majority of Ariuni's years been a large part of her life, first from a childhood of training and later years as a part of a smuggling crew at sea. ■ Impervious to harsh weather. Through years of being at sea, Ariuni has learned to handle the more extreme weathers one would find; the blistering heat of a windless day, the raging storms of the sea, a heavy rainfall or strong trade winds. The Au Ra also carries the knowledge on how to protect herself against the dust storms of the deserts. ■ Bilingual. A life of travel backed up by a solid education has afforded Ariuni with an array of languages at her disposal. ■ Proficiency in art and etiquette. One might not think so at a first glance, but Ariuni has been taught in the ways of proper conduct, correct manners and the activities befitting a proper noble's daughter. She has discarded most of these teachings in her daily life, but she has not forgotten them. On occasion one might see the subtle hints of them in the way she carries herself and small mannerisms, but perhaps most telling of all is the elegant style of her handwriting that betray the quality of her upbringing. ■ Navigation. A skill once learned through books, now honed through years of experience. W E A K N E S S ■ Ruthless. It is true that ruthlessness can be both a strength and a weakness. In Ariuni's case it is more of a blurred line. She harbours little thought for her enemies and oftentimes feels no pity for their demise. Her first instinct is to kill rather than let live — an attitude that has the potential to gain her ire among other people and enemies. ■ Tendency to make rash decisions. In certain situations — most commonly regarding money or the safety of her life and/or secrets, but also on rarer occasions regarding the safety of her trusted few — she has the tendency to act before she thinks, which usually just leads to more trouble. ■ Impatient. Patience is not her strong suit. More specifically, she gets irritated at delays, people not getting to the point and a lack of having anything to do. ■ Distrustful. As the Au Ra herself is quick to lie and deceive others to get what she wants, she is not quick to trust other people for the same reason, and is generally of the mindset that everyone has an ulterior motive behind their actions. Having been betrayed in the past by people she had previously trusted has not helped changing this mindset either. ■ Easily distracted by the prospect of money.
