Character

General

Burning Passion (or "Red", as some have taken to call him) is an adventurer and Second Lieutenant in the Immortal Flames. True to his name, he shows almost inhuman levels of determination to accomplish great feats. While he is still teaching himself how to use a wide variety of weapons, he is most comfortable using his own bare hands to subdue his foes. However, as brutish as his fighting style is, he is far more intelligent than he appears, knowing many things about the world of Hydaelyn and beyond. What is he hiding? Where is he from originally? Is he one of the Warriors of Light?

Appearance

<Clothing TBD, will be more concrete during Patch 2.2 when Vanity Slots are released.>

Burning is a Roegadyn and, as such is a very large, very stocky individual. He has darkly tanned skin and vibrant red hair with golden highlights, looking as if to resemble fire itself. He has four parallel scars over his left eye and nose, perhaps a wound from a fiercely powerful beast?

Behavior

Burning is a very gung-ho and energetic man who has a great passion for adventuring and fighting. He is famous for being loud, boisterous, and absolutely hates seeing anyone left out of good times. He appears quite foolish a lot of the time and relishes the time he has with his friends and companions. He's also quite reckless, openly declaring the primal Ifrit as his personal rival. Though despite this, there are times when he might be unwilling to engage in an ongoing conversation. He is more of a fighter than a socialite, after all.

Combat

General

Burning is skilled in the use of a variety of different weapons, but is a true master of the fist. A very quick study, and exceptionally difficult to defeat in combat. Even still, he continues to train himself through the use of weapons in order to adapt much of what he has learned back to his true, original style of barehanded combat.

Tendencies

Likes

  • Anything Fire or Fire-related
  • Combat and Fighting
  • Training

Dislikes

  • Anything Ice or Ice-related
  • Coerthas
  • Social Gatherings

Hobbies/Talents

  • Training
  • Adapting to new situations quickly
  • An almost impossible knowledge of the world and that which lies beyond.

Other

  • Despite Burning Passion's uncanny knowledge of the world, he is often quite absentminded when it comes to the people living in it.
  • Views the primal Ifrit as less of a threat and more of a rival.
  • Prefers fighting those who are "asking for it", either literally or figuratively, or while hunting wild animals as a part of his training. But when facing off against someone who would prefer not to fight at all if there was another way, it sours his disposition immensely.

Relationships

Family

Burning has parents, but they're still in the place where Burning's from. He doesn't even know where that is. Burning is, as far as he's aware, an only child.

Friends

Burning makes and loses friends on a regular basis, largely due to both his eagerness to make new friends very quickly, and his forgetfulness of the friends he has already made. This makes any kind of relationship with Burning exceptionally difficult. But once he can truly remember who you are, you know you've carved a place for yourself in his heart.

Enemies

Burning has no real enemies. The Garlean Empire? Just a bunch of really numerous, really powerful children. The primals? Just a bunch of parasites feasting off the world's life essence. In his view, he's faced far worse things.

Rumors

Common Rumors

  • Burning may put on a big, friendly teddy bear persona, but deep down, I bet he's kinda lonely.
  • Burning's skills with his fists are absolutely incredible! Did you know he's also training with other weapons in order to improve his barehanded combat?
  • Burning claims to be a son of Ul'dah, but no one really knows who he really is or where he came from. Where do you suppose he came from?

Moderate Rumors

  • Burning claims outwardly that his skills are among the best, and while that may arguably be true in reality, he doesn't actually believe that.
  • I've looked into it, but it seems that Burning isn't even an Eorzean native! No one in the entire country has ever even heard of him before the Warriors of Light returned to this world! Could he be a Garlean spy?
  • Some reports say that Burning is actually a Warrior of Light, but when asked about things like Dalamud or the events from five years ago, he says he has no idea what I'm talking about!

Rare Rumors

  • I've checked with my contacts in Garlemald, Ala Mhigo, and even across the seas. All around the world, this man is a complete and total mystery! Just between you and me, I don't think he's even from this world!
  • I've heard more about why Burning doesn't really remember people. I hear he keeps himself disconnected so that he won't feel so bad if anyone dies. That's pretty dang cold-hearted of him! Either that or he's lost so much that he ain't wanting to relive those memories again!
  • You remember when that weird girl with the weird clothes was traipsing around? You know, that Lightning girl. Turns out someone was eavesdropping on the conversation. He was talking about something along the lines of an "Interdimensional Rift". Says he can show this girl how to get back to her own world. What's he talking about? Some kinda other worlds? Buncha nonsense, if you ask me.

PC Rumors

  • <None Yet>

History/Timeline

Burning was born in Ul'dah on Hydaelyn, but not the same Hydaelyn as the one he currently resides on now. In his Hydaelyn, he trained at the Pugilists Guild. A gifted fighter, he earned many accolades and even joined the Immortal Flames of his own world. Along with others, he even held back the Garlean invasion force. However, Ultima Weapon showed up. When it used "Ultima", it tore a tiny hole in the Interdimensional Rift. Just behind that hole were two beings that his world was not ready for. One was a machine, much like the Ultima Weapon. Only this machine was silver and stood on four wiery appendages, with a single eye. The other was a massive dragon, larger even than Bahamut, which looked to have gold and red scales. The two beings fought with such ferocity that it shook the entire planet. Ultima had wounded many of his companions. He and a handful of others stayed behind while the rest escaped. He watched as the two completely obliterated Ultima Weapon with a single strike as if it were little more than aluminum foil. Burning charged at the golden dragon, but a single swipe almost took off his entire face before he was grabbed by the massive dragon and thrown through the gateway into the Rift, which sealed behind him. He could only watch as his entire world was utterly destroyed by those two monsters. Everything he had ever known and loved was gone.

This new place was cold and dark. He navigated it for months. Fighting fiercely powerful monsters and defeating them, but only barely. In time, he came across a small library. Inside were many books. Most of the books contained the secrets of this place, the Interdimensional Rift, a plane between realities. The books even told of the two he fought. The machine, Omega, and the dragon, Shinryu. The tale goes that the two have been fighting for aeons without rest, and have left entire worlds destroyed in their wake. The books also told of the Rift's many other secrets. About the many other worlds connected to The Rift, and of who was capable of wielding power over it. There were even books on such people, as if the books were writing themselves! One book told of a knight of darkness who lost his body in combat, but was brought to life with the power of The Rift to become an ultimate evil. Another told of a samurai clad in red in the search for the most powerful weapons ever to be forged in preparation to meet with his ultimate rival. Yet another speaks of another warrior, granted the blessing of her goddess with great power and an even greater task.

Eventually, he reached one book on a shelf which bestowed upon him the knowledge upon how to traverse The Rift and, better, how to leave. Following the book's instruction, he attempted to locate where his world had once been. It may have been destroyed, but there must still be survivors there. He did eventually find where his world was, but saw nothing but destruction. The entire world was comprised of nothing but massive craters and ruins as far as the eye could see. It was completely unrecognizable. Seeing no life on this dead world, he returned to The Rift and wandered. Days became weeks. Weeks became months. And in time, he felt responsible for the deaths of all of those people. Sure, he was not the cause of it, it was that damn Ultima Weapon and that damn Gaius von Baelsar that executed the Ultima attack that brought Omega and Shinryu into his world, and it was them who destroyed it. He was helpless to stop it. Everyone was. But eventually, he found something impossible. It was his home, Hydaelyn! But it was different, somehow. He wasn't quite sure how, but it was his home! Maybe it hadn't been destroyed after all!

He entered this world, and it did feel like his own world. But no one knew who he was. His friends no longer existed in this reality. Many he fought alongside with had no recollection of such events and didn't know who he was. It was a cosmic joke. Burning Passion was back on Hydaelyn, but it wasn't his Hydaelyn. It wasn't his world. It wasn't his Eorzea, it wasn't his Ul'dah, it wasn't his Sultana, it wasn't his Flame Commander, it wasn't his master in the Pugilist's Guild, everything was wrong! But Burning had no choice. This world was plagued by the same crisis his own had faced. It was his duty to protect it. In this world, Gaius had not yet activated Ultima. He was in time to stop it! He volunteered for the raid party on Castrum Meridium, now fully aware of the Ultima Weapon's true potential. Immediately as the fight began, Burning aimed for a particular device strapped to Ultima Weapon, damaging its abilities enough to lessen the power of Ultima. It managed to succeed, but caused the Ultima Weapon to malfunction and explode.

Thanks to Burning, the crack in the Rift did not open and those two foul calamities did not unleash hell on this world. Though only Burning was aware of that. No one else thought anything of such things. Heck, he was certain that no one of this world even knew what the Interdimensional Rift even was other than him. But one thing was for certain. This Hydaelyn was his home now. And he had to ensure that Omega and Shinryu were never given the chance to destroy this world as they had his own. Never.
