General Information
War does not make you special. If you are any man with half his wits about him, war will make you weak. I have fought in wars beyond imaginable scale, and lost everything to them.
Appearance
Hair & Eyes
Having always been afraid of her eyes, and having always felt as if they were a curse, often times does Ianthe hide them or cover them. They practically glow in dim light, their crimson is so vibrant and unsettling. Several times have men found themselves lost in her eyes, subject to her will. They are a burden and a sign of her betrayal, and a sensitive subject.
Ianthe's hair is kept short and usually bobbed, out of the way and easily manageable. Recently, she's allowed it to grow out some. It is usually dark and black, shot through with varying amounts of gray.
Physique & Markings
There are a number of defining features about Ianthe, many of them not readily apparent to those who have recently met her. The most obvious, however, and most defining traits, would be her bobbed tail, and her magitek left arm. Neither came of natural causes. The magitek arm is of clear Garlean make, and has several lightning-aspected crystals hidden within as both a power source and a way to weaponize it. It is a simple metallic gray, lined with blue ceruleum circuits. The bobbed tail -- her other obvious defining feature -- is quite clearly not natural in the way that she moves it, and the way that it ends. Rather, it was docked some time ago.
Among her less apparent traits are telltale tufted ears, much like a lynx's, a small scar on her left cheek, and a crooked lower canine. Her ears are long and pointed, and tufted at the ends, unlike the vast majority of modern miqo'te. Perhaps this can speak to her anachronism to those who are particularly learned. On her left cheek, a very small scar rests, though she'll never tell where it came from. When she speaks, and when she snarls (however infrequently she allows instinct to drive her actions), a crooked and snaggled tooth is visible beneath her lower lip, also on the left side. It doesn't seem to be loose-- just at an odd angle. She never complains of it.
The woman's complextion is clear, however sickly and pale she seems to be. Those who know her will note the obvious fluctuation in her apparent age, seemingly between her mid-twenties and her mid-forties.
Hygiene & Attire
Ianthe cannot seem to be clean enough at times. There's something that seems to drive her to stay perfectly clean, bathing regularly, and at times more often than she ought to. Her skin as a result is rather dry, but cleaner than you would expect. She smells rather nice as well, like a rather potent flower. Her hair is soft and smooth, and to the touch, as is most of Ianthe, disregarding her magitek arm. She takes great care of herself, as far as hygiene goes.
However, it's a borderline obsession. She seems to believe that no matter how clean she keeps herself, she has some sort of unshakable filth upon her. She's hardly ever seen without gloves, and hardly allows contact from anyone. If you get the chance to hold her, or even shake hands ungloved, it's a sign of deep trust. Despite the covering of her hands, she tends to wear more revealing outfits when she's comfortable. Just as easily as her mood swings, as does her taste in clothes, however, and she often drastically changes how she appears. Either she wears hardly anything at all, or she's almost completely covered. Often she'll cover her eyes at the very least, unless with a group she's particularly comfortable around.
Personality
Psychological Profile
Ianthe could be described by some as moody, or even bipolar at times. She can change from forgiving and kind to cruel and unnerving at the drop of a hat. While she makes a conscious effort to be kind to those she meets, the Meracydian has more trouble than she'd like to admit controlling her temper. When under stress, she avoids discussion of the topics with all those but the people she remains the closest to, and as a direct result, her anger grows more vehement with the passage of time when it boils over. She seems to be restraining herself at all times. Whether from breaking down crying or from anger remains unclear.
Voice
Ianthe speaks softly most of the time, and with a lighter accent than a majority of Eorzeans. One could call her speech a little "rounded at the edges", if they were particularly kinesthetic. At times, her speech is unsure or out of order, as Eorzean is not her first language by any account. Rather, it's her third spoken languge, and second writen. Her letters often are marred by scribbled out Allagan in the margins and terrible misspellings.
Philosophy & Mannerisms
Ianthe seems to have a very neutral standpoint, and sometimes idealist. Perhaps it can be attributed to her devotion to her Goddess, but the Meracydian seems quite intent on the concept of "balance". Mostly, her beliefs seem to center around her balancing her personal wrongs, which are not exactly few in number, and the wrongs of her dead empire. Earning respect, learning about her, and even being worth her time of day are all dependant upon her mood at the time, and how it aligns with her ideals on the balance of the world.
Ianthe very often fills the role of being an old coot, and often does not. She is mentally unstable to a degree, in part due to her synthetic nature. If you're close to her at all (or if she finds you trustworthy to any small degree), she might take it upon herself to talk about herself, and about her past. She doesn't disclose much about Allag itself, but ask about her experiences and you're sure to get a lengthy talk out of the woman, no matter what subject you focus on. However, she is just as quick to change subjects if you mention something sensitive to any great length. Her arm, not so much. Her tail, a bit more-so. Ask about her eyes and you'll get nothing. Questions that for any reason pry into her affairs or her husband, she'll avoid altogether, or often times become enraged at the mention of. As mentioned before, she's very quick to anger.
For a Meracydian/Miqo'te, Ianthe is incredibly civilized and keeps herself carefully controlled. She keeps her speech formal, her ears and tail as still as she can help, and her behaviors civil. As of late, acclimation to Eorzea has caused the woman's posture to degrade, for her attitude to slip through, and her ears and tail to 'reanimate'. While instinctual behaviors like cat-naps, lashing out, and hissing or growling are still all incredibly jarring to her, and she does her damnedest to avoid them, Ianthe has given in to instinct on more than one occasion now.

Non-Combat Abilities
Tech Proficiency: Ianthe is very skilled with ancient technology and that of Garlean or magitek make. "Very skilled" only applies to modern standards, however. Highly complex Allagan technology is still out of her grasp, though there is nothing of Garlean make she couldn't pick apart and piece back together (likely slightly better). She was an engineer/mechanic for many years, and is no stranger to working with technology.
Combat Abilities
Miasma: Ianthe's grimoire has the ability to produce a thick miasma both in and outside of combat. It is a thick purple haze, and is highly flammable in high concentrations. In its mist form, it is not able to be ignited. (Writer's note: If you need a comparison, think of hideous zippleback gas from HTTYD)
Energy Drain: One of Ianthe's go-tos for close-range combat. In a single encounter, Ianthe is able to fire off three Energy Drains, which pull large quantities of aether out of subjects and into her grimoire. If she attempts another, she will not be able to. If someone were to overload her Energy Drain, her grimoire would overload and wound her.
Bio: A basic disease that Ianthe is able to force into the bodies of her opponents. This is nothing special, but can be a moderate to severe hindrance depending on her opponent's constitution.
Fester: Ianthe has the ability to worsen either the effects of a disease on an opponent for several seconds at a time, further weakening them. She can only use this twice in an encounter.
Ignition: Using the lightning shards in her magitek arm, or with a spark of fire-aspected magic, Ianthe is able to ignite her miasma. This sets off a massive AOE blast for however far the concentrated mist extends. If the mist has begun to dispel, the miasma will not ignite. If she stands within the range of the blast, Ianthe will take severe damage herself.
Sharpshooter: Ianthe is proficient with small guns, and can hit a target (with minimal sideways movement) both nearby and at range with fairly reliable accuracy. A stationary target is surely in grave danger.
OOC Note
I heavily prefer freeform combat, but am familiar with the A Roll Reborn system, the XIV:CS system, and using simply roll vs roll combat. In combat, if Ianthe takes a single wound that draws blood, she is down for the count, as she has Hemophilia.

History
Each story read here is full of information that can be used against this character in what is known as meta-gaming. If any of this information is found used without consent, or learned without IC reasonings, it will resort in me cutting all IC and OOC contact from you. Please understand this is a mere history of this character and for the enjoyment, or dislike of those who wish to peruse.
WARNING: Long entries ahead!
Childhood

Ianthe was born in the ruined wasteland of Meracydia after Allag's first assault, which had been repelled by the dragons calling the continent home. Her mother was a poor woman who knew not Ianthe's father. When Ianthe was born with the man's striking red eyes, she had stumbled to the Allagan occupants along the Meracydian coast, disgraced and ashamed, and demanded that she be permitted a life within the empire with her "noble-blooded" child. Ajah was granted her wish, though not nearly as glamorously as she would have wished. Her and many other Meracydian refugees had been placed within a ghetto on the outskirts of the Allagan capital. Ianthe was raised here, living poorly with others of her origin for the first thirteen years of her life.

As a child, Ianthe had to fight adults and children for scraps of food thrown into landfills outside of the capital. Cruel Allagan children taunted the poor by tossing food scraps over the fences, which she'd battle tooth and claw for to feed both her and her mother. She was small. She was thin. She was on the verge of death multiple times. Because of her cursed eyes, she was seen as some sort of chimerical abomination by pureblooded Allagan children, and seen as a traitor and an enemy by the other Meracydians. To combat this, she covered her eyes with a scrap of fabric, or a visor, whenever she could. She could hardly see where she was going whenever she did, but it was her only option to keep out of fights. However, those who did know of her mixed heritage held it over her head, and the young bastard was forced to scavenge the very outskirts of the ghetto for food and trinkets. Several times she would run into groups of pureblood Allagan children on the other side of the fence, threatening that they would "skin the cat" and other cruel threats. In two separate encounters, she crossed the fence for a scrap of food, and was beaten with a wrench by the children of Allag waiting on the other side of the trap. A loose tooth of hers was knocked out (along with several other baby teeth), and the adult tooth growing in below grew in crooked and remained as such for the rest of her life. In her second encounter, the same children who had beaten her with a wrench crossed the fence, pinned her down, and taken a pair of garden shears to her tail, forcefully docking it. The scars remained with her for the rest of her life.

Young Adult Life

After as much schooling as Allag would provide to the children of the ghetto, Ianthe enlisted in the Allagan military to earn her citizenship. From age 14 until 24, she served on a Ragnarok-class airship, mostly doing maintenance and tech work. Very little was she permitted to visit the front in Meracydia, where conflict had been at a standstill since before she was born. She did, however, participate in several tests of new technology, and with exceptional will to survive shown through them all, Ianthe was permitted a small scholarship to a low-end Allagan university.

For only two years did she attend the university, making few friends and once again being required to wear her visor to hide her eyes at all times. She earned a degree in IT at the age of 26, before leaving the university and all its discrimination behind. She spent a year searching for jobs that would hire her for more than a pittance, and found none. There was no place within Allagan society for a Meracydian bastard. And so, with all she shame of a beaten dog, Ianthe returned to the military for another five years, and was moved repeatedly between several other Ragnarok-class airships, and traveling the empire to keep her away from home.

While in Ilsabard, her and several others were assigned to a small town named Argos out in the desert, near modern-day Gyr Abania, for an unknown purpose. Little did any of them know, but a new prototype of beast was being tested for mental stability in real conditions. A chimera-- one of the Second Generation -- was released into the town. At first, its behavior went smoothly, and few citizens questioned the creature, until something unseen set it off.

The rampaging chimera destroyed several buildings, and the dragon's voice destroyed the electrical connection, and the unaware Ianthe and the others within the town rushed to take down the creature before it could obliterate more of the city. The second part of the trial had begun: neutralizing the chimera. As they worked to fell it with the pitiful weapons given to them before their assignment, the beast had focused on a group of fleeing civilians past Ianthe, and charged for them. In a last-ditch effort to protect the valuable lives of pureblooded Allagan citizens, Ianthe threw herself before the beast, and was swiftly pinned to the ground. Claws dug into her back, their bite lessened by her uniform enough to prevent scarring. From her left arm came a terrible pulling sensation. The blunted teeth of the goat's head of the chimera tore through the limb, and the beast ripped apart her arm in a matter of moments. Before it could do much worse, the beast was distracted and neutralized.

Ianthe was hospitalized following the incident, and remained as such for several weeks.

Affairs and Marriage

After the incident in Argos, Ianthe was fitted with a prosthetic arm, and reassigned as an engineer to Azys Lla. She'd ideally spend the rest of her days wandering the isle as needed, repairing and running diagnostics on the machinery in various lower-level-access areas of the isle. It was a death sentence as well. More often than not were the employees on Azys Lla killed, whether for sport, in trials, or for legal violations. "The Empire thanks you for your sacrifice", every node was programmed to say.

However, the Meracydian would have none of that. Spurred on by her trauma and the desire to spare others from the same sort of suffering, Ianthe arranged a meeting with the director of chimerics. She accused him of embezzling funds from his own project. Neither confirming nor denying, he asked what she would do about it, and the woman replied simply. She would implore him to redirect funding towards the mental stability of the chimeras he oversaw the creation of. Though the man was not, as she believed, stealing funds, he saw an opportunity. He offered her this.

She saw him whenever he needed-- let him use her as he saw fit -- and he would redirect funding.

Having little respect for herself, being Meracydian, the woman agreed. "That's all you cats are good for," he would often remark. From age 33 until age 38, she saw him. Sometimes daily. Sometimes weekly. Sometimes there would be a month between calls for her, but nonetheless, there was no end in sight from this hell she had immersed herself in. Within the first year, she was with child, and at 34 had her first daughter, named Allas. The director of chimerics was furious with her, and demanded that she ensure that she would never have children again. Unless, of course, she wanted this to become a public affair, and she would surely be put to death for laying with a pureblood who she was not married to or in a relationship with. And so she carried out his wishes, for five long years.

Through the middle of this, she met a kind young man, who was Ilsabardian, and worked as a program developer on Azys Lla. He could never tell her of his work, and she could never tell him of her secret life, but the two of them fell in love. His name was Iphis, and he loved her more than the moon and stars, and helped her raise Allas. They married when Ianthe was 37, and the affairs came to an end the next year. He never asked what troubled her, and never pushed his boundaries with her. He only wished for her to smile, and that would make them both happy.

Adult Life

Ianthe and Iphis both retired from Azys Lla shortly after with the funds Iphis had recieved for completing his project. They lived some ways outside of the capital in Mor Dhona. When Ianthe was 43, a man came to her with a job. He had recently lost his wife during the birth of his daughter, Agora Agamira. He would pay Ianthe well to look after and raise Agora, as he was incredibly busy himself. Already looking after Allas, but with no other reason to decline, Ianthe accepted, and became Agora's adopted mother for the next nine years.

At 52, Ianthe was approached by several Allagans from Azys Lla, who heard of her notoriety. The second war with Meracydia was over, and Allag had won. Ianthe was one of very few adult bastards from either of the two wars who had gained citizenship, and thusly she was asked to provide a clone of herself to store within the Fractal Continuum, and to display to guests. She was to be the exhibit on what went wrong with Allag's war on Meracydia. Seeing no reason to refuse, she agreed, and provided the Fractal Continuum with a clone of herself. She left her soul crystal with the clone, as she no longer had any use for it.

Post-Cloning and Death

Beyond her cloning, the original Ianthe Metaxas lived well and long, until she was 81. She died of natural causes, and was presumably peaceful when she did. Agora and Allas lived longer, until Allas was uncovered bugging Allagan automatons in the slow decline of the empire. She threw herself from a building to save her pride, though her soul crystal lived on to be found many years later. The Allagan empire collapsed completely four years after Ianthe's death. Iphis lived to see the very end.

In Recent Times
The following is history pertaining to the beginning of the character's in-game roleplay onwards.
After a malfunction and subsequent shutdown of the containment facilities for a good portion of the Fractal Continuum, Ianthe and several other specimens were released from containment fairly recently. The clone, disoriented and unsure of who it was, fled the decrepit island of Azys Lla to Eorzea, and crash-landed a half-functioning drone in Thanalan. Unsure of who she was or where she was going, Ianthe wandered Ul'dah, almost drunkenly flinging about her origins. It wasn't for a several weeks that she heard of the fall of her empire. After her grief faded, and in her following anger, the Meracydian lashed out against an elezen named Leonnaux Altoix.
Ianthe offered to teach Leonnaux arcanima, and while her offer was somewhat legitimate, she had an ulterior motive. She sought to turn Leonnaux into a vessel for her dead daughter. As the memories from her soul crystal finally started to settle in her, and the will of Ianthe Metaxas manifested within the clone, it initially rejected those memories, and turned them onto Leonnaux. She broke his arm, just as she had lost hers. She beat him, just as she had been beaten. And worst of all, she attempted to take the place of the director of chimerics, and nearly forced herself onto Leonnaux. Thankfully, he remembered one of her teachings, being Energy Drain, and brought her to the floor before she could enact her awful wishes on the boy. Subsequent attempts at betrayal, partially out of pure mental instability, and partially out of hatred for his theft of her daughter's soul crystal, led to Leonnaux's trust in her completely shattering.
After the incident with Leonnaux, Ianthe moved on to form her own criminal syndicate with the help of several other Allagans she had discovered. They were hired for a job by Jihn'a Gahre to abduct Koh'si Jakkya, which put Ianthe and one of her (now former) employees in a still-unresolved sticky situation. Throughout the course of this conflict, Ianthe began to realize just what she had been doing, and her mental instability from 5,000 years of stasis began to wear off. Horrified and unsure of where to go from there, the Meracydian tried desperately to make amends with Leonnaux. Shortly later, she attempted with Koh'si and his friends as well, only to be shot down and refused that comfort by all of them. She didn't get to feel better about what she did.
Shortly after, Ianthe fell in love with a miqo'te woman who made her realize the weight of her sins. She disbanded the syndicate, and founded a new company called the Incunabulum. Now, she simply goes as "The Curator". A recent run-in with Leonnaux and a girl named Edda Vincents left Ianthe wounded heavily, and on death's door. Shortly after, P'ianthe Aliapoh appeared in the Mythril Eye's obituary. Who she was has died, leaving a questioning Ianthe Metaxas trying to determine who she is in the wake of her second "death".

Ajah, Mother - The Mother Who Tried
Ajah did her best for Ianthe, though it wasn't enough. She suffered just as much as her precious daughter, however. Ianthe gives her credit for at least that much. Ajah was never there for her daughter when she needed it. Ianthe's only memories of the woman are of her crying alone in her room.
Allas Metaxas, Daughter - Her One and Only
Ianthe's precious daughter, who died sailing from a window to save her pride. Her soul crystal remains in the possession of Leonnaux Altoix.
Iphis Metaxas, Husband - You Make Me Smile
All he ever wanted was to see her smile. All he ever wanted was for Ianthe to be happy.
Player Characters

Leonnaux Altoix, Acquaintance - I Can Never Apologize
The boy that Ianthe wronged the worst of all of them, between forcing her daughter's memories on him, and trying to force herself on him as well. Now that she's come to her senses, she can hardly stand the thought of what she's done to Leonnaux. No matter how many times that Ianthe apologizes, no matter what she does to make it up to him, she never will be able to.
Jun'to Nharuya, Trusted Friend - An Enigma
Jun'to has never failed to surprise Ianthe. They first met over the ordeal with Koh'si Jakkya, and Ianthe wanted a relation in return for Koh'si's protection on her end. She ended up later on falling in love with his (now former) wife, X'myra Bhen, though she never came to see her while she was on death's doorstep, through her weeks of suffering. Jun'to, however, prayed for her after her "death". He even called her a friend. Even more surprising about this was that Jun'to had previously condemned her for her wrongs against Leonnaux.
Avidia Iuvenlis, Trusted Friend - A Reminder
A lovely young woman that reminds Ianthe of her daughter, Allas. She's opened up to Avidia more than a few times out of misplaced trust. There's no clear reason why, except for the connection Ianthe has made between Avidia and Allas.

Rumors
NPC Rumors

Some of these rumors are untrue, speculation, or are greatly exaggerated.

◢ Common Rumors - Easily overheard. Use these freely!
"She's got an attitude fit to kill a man. If words could really cut ye, I'd be a dead man hearin' her conversations." — Quicksand Regular.
"I heard that she calls herself 'The Curator' sometimes. Wonder what she's got to hide." — Mercenary.
"Metaxas? That ain't a name I've ever 'eard. Ain't sound like any sort o' miqo'te name. Maybe a hyur, but she ain't look like one." — Innkeeper.
◢ Uncommon Rumors - A little more difficult to hear. Use sparingly or ask first!
"Sometimes she comes in here to pray. She'll sit here hours on end, too. She's never invoked any of the Twelve, though." — Acolyte at Saint Adama Landama.
"She used to smoke these crazy scented cigars all the time around here, but I haven't seen her with a drink or anything smoking in months. You think she quit cold turkey...?" — Gobsmacked Adventurer.
"Her eyes are hypnotic, almost... Reminds me of something. Eh? What about them? Haven't you seen the way that they glow that awful shade of red?" — Scholarly Type.
◢ Rare Rumors - Very rarely overheard. Please ask before using!
"Look, don't quote me on it, but she isn't who she says she is. Ever hear the name P'ianthe Aliapoh? Turned up dead a few weeks back. That's gotta be her. I know it is." — Mythril Eye Reporter.
"There used to be a lady with a fucked up left arm 'round 'ere. Called 'Nerve'. No one's ever seen 'er, 'cept that old syndicate that she used to lead. See that magitek left arm? Mmmhm. You catch the drift yet?" — Shady Info Broker.

Location & Probability
Places where the character is very likely to be seen
Ishgard/Coerthas: Medium Probablility
Gridania/Black Shroud: Extremely Low Probability
Limsa Lominsa/La Noscea: High Probablility
Ul'dah/Thanalan: Very High Probability
Affiliations
Most of these aren’t public, and would have to be asked after!
Incunabulum: Her business! She's known as the Curator there.
The Vth Legion (?): Sort of disbanded, but her connections are still there.
Science!: FC tag is <<NYAHA>>. Belongs to a friend of Ianthe's.
IC Inventory
The following items are things that this individual carries on their person at all times. These are noted for pickpockets, and those watching her closely. This information is meant to be a prompt for insight and is not to be meta-gamed, though feel free to use this information if it comes up logically in RP (pickpocketing, a search, etc) with use of a simple /tell.
Soul Crystal: Heavily warded! Would not be accessible to a pickpocket without extreme aetheric talent.
Switchblade: Everyone needs a pocket knife. Just don't grab the pointy end when you try to mug her with it.
Grimoire OR gun: Better armed than dead. Grimoire also heavily warded. Do not open: Risk of death.

RP Limits
I like to consider myself a flexible player who is willing to commit to a number of different types of scenes and role-play scenarios, but even I have my limits. If something is on the play list, assume it means yes, as long as it's within the context of the current play or ongoing plot. No's are typically a hard no, and it means don't ask.
I will play dark themes, mildly sexual themes (NO ERP, FTB), mild gore. Long term plots, adventure, combat, etc. Only write ships with me if you're ready for me to literally never leave you alone because I love ships and Ianthe is a lonely old lady.
Ask about mortal wounds (this could be any wound that breaks Ianthe's skin-- she has hemophilia) and rape themes. I know it's in her backstory, but that doesn't mean it needs to happen in RP.
I won't play character death, dismemberment (unless you grab her magitek hand and run), or any "ask" themes that weren't asked about.
RP Hooks
While the below is by no means comprehensive, it's a kind of spring board for walk-up RP. Longer plots that are meant to run for more than a few quick RP's, please feel free to send me a tell so we can work out a good reason for our characters to get to know one another. I'm always looking for RP.
■ Things she's got in her pockets! Jack 'em or ask about 'em! She won't bite! I hope...
■ The Incunabulum! She does run a business, you know.
■ Her eyes are always a good conversation starter. People overuse red eyes to hell and back, but they're still a vital part of Allagan history.

Player Note
There is a lot of information on this character wiki, but it is by no means completely comprehensive. There are chunks of backstory that are left intentionally vague so that details can be later added as developed through creative writing or in role-play revelation. Feel free to use Common or Uncommon rumors freely, if you want to use a Rare Rumor as a plot hook or to spark RP, I would ask that you send me a tell first, to make certain it's alright.
Character Lore Adherence
Ianthe has been written very carefully with months of work and research to be sure that she complies fully to lore, despite her far-fetched origins. If there is anything you are unclear on as far as her lore goes, please ask! I promise there's an answer to everything! Everything concerning this character that has not been explicitly confirmed by in-game lore should otherwise be taken with a grain of salt. Anything that has had to be changed because of lore shifting will be noted below.
■ Minor backstory retcons to conform to lore.
■ Character motivation retcon due to OOC conflict.
■ Character "death" rewritten for lore.
Character Concept
In case it wasn't clear, Ianthe is just a Meracydian/Allagan bastard with a lot of problems.
