Character

General

Birthplace: Hingashi.

Current Residence: Traveling, no long term residence.

Current Workplace: N/A

Eye Color- Green

Hair color- Reddish Brown

Body Type- Fit

Age: 25

Appearance

Though not rivaling the taller races like Elezen and Roegadyn, Kaida is tall for a Midlander. Her body is fit and curved, both deadly and beautiful. Her reddish-brown hair is usually tied back in a bun, usually only let down for bathing or sleeping. Her emerald eyes sharp and alert, sizing up and scrutinizing all she meets. She often wears clothing that reflects her far eastern heritage, and has a fondness for red, black and gold.

Personality

Hailing from the far eastern nation of Hingashi, Kaida still shows the trappings of formality from her homeland. However, she has a tendency to be direct, even curt at times. With Kaida, one will generally receive as much respect as is given. Treat her respectfully, and she will generally do the same. Insult her honor, and you'll face either a sharp tongue or a sharp blade.

Her main goal is to further her training as a swordswoman. Though she favors the jian, a straight bladed short sword, she practices with a variety of swords and other weapons, both to be more versatile herself and to better understand how to combat them.

Kaida follows a self imposed code of honor. Though some would see it as a virtue, her unwillingness to bend can at times be a detriment.

Code of Honor

She will not attack a for unawares, even if they would or have done the same to her. Perhaps a strike from behind if say a foe charges past her and leaves themself open, but never on an unaware foe.

She will not steal, even from the dead. The only exception would be if she stole from a thief to return the item to its rightful owner, but in her mind this would not truly be theft.

She will not lie. She might hold her tongue, or be mistaken, but she will not willfully lie.

She will not strike an opponent while they are down, even if they would attack her or bear a grudge once recovered.

She will not decline a challenge, unless she is in too poor health to fight.

She will not strike with intent to kill. She will defend herself if attacked, and should an assailant be mortally wounded she will not feel remorse. But this would simply be a byproduct of her defending herself, not her intent. If attacked, she will generally leave a wounded assailant to fend for themselves, leaving their lives in the hands of fate.

She will endeavor to follow the law of the land she is currently in, unless doing so would itself impugn her honor.

Combat

Fighting Style

Kaida's fighting style doesn't neatly fit into any of FF XIV's classes or jobs. She primarily uses a style of far eastern shortsword called a jian. Though she is also proficient in the use of other weapons, including the katana and naginata, daggers, and has a curiosity to train with Eorzean style blades, the jian is her specialty. She focuses on quick, precise strikes as well as dance like movements both to evade her enemy and make her own attacks harder to predict. In addition to her bladework, she'll often include kicks and footwork into her fighting. A lone traveler, she often forgoes heavy armor in favor of mobility and freedom of movement.

Tendencies

Likes/Hobbies

  • Sparring/Training.
  • Tea.
  • Honor, respect.

Dislikes

  • Weak willed, those overly reliant on others.
  • Laziness.
  • Cowardice.

Strengths

  • In battle, her movements and strikes are swift and precise. She's quick on her feet, and highly agile.
  • Perceptive and quick to learn.
  • Strong willed and persistent.

Weaknesses

  • Lack of heavy armor, meaning that when a solid hit does land, she has little but grit to mitigate it.
  • Though highly trained, she lacks the raw power of larger races that many Roegadyn, Highlanders, male Au Ra etc can boast.
  • As of yet ignorant of many cultures, histories and fighting styles specific to Eorzea.
  • Prideful, sometimes stubborn. Follows her code of honor regardless of the situation.

Rumors

Common Rumors

  • A traveler from the far east, recently arrived in Eorzea to further her training.

Uncommon Rumors

  • Seems to come from money given her fine clothes and sword.

Rare Rumors

  • Rumored to have been banished from a noble house in Hingashi, though few would have the resources and interest to try and validate said rumors.

OOC Info

Kaida References

Kaida's appearance is more or less what you see in game, but the screen shots here are from the character creator in Soul Calibur VI, as I was able to get closer representation of how I imagine her in that game compared to the FF XIV character creator. Nothing is drastically different, but the shade of her hair and the weapon she uses are better represented in the pictures on this page than in game, as the game itself doesn't really have many short swords, being limited generally to longswords, greatswords, katanas or rapiers.

Blade for Hire

Though Kaida appears to come from money given her garments, she's not above taking on mercenary work to further hone her skills. Her motives are generally self centered, looking to improve her own skill rather than seeking to do good or carry out justice. However, she does have her standards, and won't take on outright evil work.

Combat RP

This can be a lot of fun and I'm generally up for it so long as everyone involved is on the same page. I'm good with rolling to decide winner or freeform. My preferred method is rolling to determine the final outcome but having freeform back and forth first, so that all involved get some good moments in, where as entirely rng fights can lead to making characters look incompetent with bad luck on their rolls. There are exceptions however. For example if a common maid who doesn't know how to fight fought a trained warrior, they SHOULD generally get their butt kicked. Or if Kaida were say poisoned and not at her best, she might lose easily to a foe that she would otherwise give a run for their money.

If I am attending an event with specified combat rules, such as the Grindstone, I will of course defer to the host's rules.

Dark/Mature Themes

So long as they're handled with a bit of maturity and weight, I'm fine with these. My approach to mature and dark themes is to treat them organically within the context of the RP. Themes of blood/gore, physical abuse, sexual assault/rape, mental or physical torture, nudity/sex etc are all fine if handled well. Eorzea is a dangerous place. There are monsters both literal and figurative in the land. Those that exploit power and prey upon the weak.
