M'ara Rahj
[edit]
NOTE: This is a BIG WIP. Stay tuned.
M'ARA RAHJ (Pronunciation: Mah-ara rah-jzuh), is a Seeker of the Sun and Keeper of the Moon mix whose astrological prowess has named her a glamorous figure in the fate-twisting displays of atherial magicks. She has lived a great part of her life as a simple card turner, whether it be sleight of hand tricks or actual divining. Recently, M'ara has found a home within an established family of banking elezens - the Ishgardian House de Vieri. M'ara claims the title of Lord Anthony de Vieri's divining adviser.
M'ara lacks stature with a slender frame that barely has curvature. Clan divergence scars the mutt, mutating her eyes in favor of Seeker aesthetic. Her left eye retains diurnal attributes whilst her right mocks its companion with nocturnal shading. Her layered hair also varies in shade. The curled ends of her locks are a delicate pink. Her full lips curl into smiles that flash elongated fangs. Her skin is a dusty peach, adding ambiguity to her origins. Painted markings run the course of her elegant cheekbones, enhancing the feline characteristics of her eyes. Fanciful in dress, M'ara spares no cost when it comes to display. To attract customers, M'ara retains a mystical appearance to her wardrobe. Her rich silks dance in the wake of her proud stride. Copious amounts of chains, jewels, baubles, and satchels adorn her body. A fine layer of iridescent dust is infused into her silks and skin, adding to her etherealness.
M'ara is a divergent soul whose selfish wishes impede social growth. She yearns for connection, yet protests when people attempt to befriend her. Sociability directly correlates to her gil-making abilities, which has forced M'ara to create a fantasy persona to entice customers. She plays the role of the auspicious entertainer whose mysticism draws everyone in around her. She seeks to capture hearts through physical display and not emotional bonds. Outside of work, M'ara sorely lacks in friends due to her reserved nature. Ostracized from both sides of her family, M'ara is naturally doomed to travel alone. Deep within her callous core, there sleeps a heartstring of honesty and generosity. She is typically too-trusting and naive for someone her age. She feels immense pressure to be the limelight in any situation, even if it's sorely uncalled for. She is a sucker for poetry and the weaving of beautiful words. As such, M'ara often finds herself lost in her collection of poetry books. She secretly enhances her poetry ability when performing divine readings for Ul'dah customers, adding to her facade's mystique.
M'ara, born Arajh Epoah, is the product of an unholy union forced down upon her mother. Epoah, a Keeper of the Moon, was traveling in the Sagolii Desert at night when she got attacked. A Seeker of the Sun Tia, enraged by his recent defeat by the reigning Nunh, took out his frustration on Epoah and left her for dead. Thankfully, a caravan destined for Ul'dah happened upon Epoah and rescued her. She recovered within the city walls and dreaded her return to Limsa Lominsa where her clan hunted. Epoah made the brash decision to wait her gestation period within Ul'dah and relinquish her child to the Seekers that had defiled her. Epoah met a Seeker male by the name of M'rahj, who quickly befriended her and eventually discerned her reason for staying in the desert. Harrowed by her story, M'rahj understood her plight and offered to raise the child so she could continue to live a normal life back in Limsa Lominsa. She named her child Arahj Epoah in honor of him and would relinquish her to M'rajh for a fleeting chance. Once Arahj was born, Rahj renamed her to fit the traditions of his clan, dubbing her M'ara Rahj, an orphan he had stumbled upon while visiting the city. The Seeker clan accepted M'ara with open arms and raised her as an expert merchant, although her faith waned when she questioned her supposed father about her origins. Thankfully, M'rahj had served as Nunh during M'ara's conception, adding to the story's legitimacy. When M'ara was old enough, M'rahj told her of her origin, sending the young miqo'te into a deep depression. She refused to remain diurnal and plotted to escape the desert clan and search for her mother in Limsa Lominsa. She vanished into the night and renounced citizenship in Ul'dah to establish herself in her true homeland. Unfortunately, Limsa Lominsan life was not for her. Insomnia drove her to the brink of insanity, a time where she only found peace in the soft moon and twinkling stars. Broken apart by her isolation, M'ara emerged back in Ul'dah and avoided her people. She set up small shops around the exchanges and picked up the trade of fortune-telling to make quick gil. Thankfully, her natural gift of discerning meaning from the stars (most of which was just fanciful mysticism) attracted a Sharlayan astrologian that offered her apprenticeship under his name. Rescued from her life of hiding, M'ara found her purpose in the stars, a place she had always felt she belonged. Epoah's shining eyes watched M'ara's journey to adulthood until she passed peacefully. Two stars faded from M'ara's view that night.
After establishing themselves within Ishgard's walls, M'ara began to sort through the variety of rumors that plagued the noble city. One such rumor, centered around a minor noble family, dealt with understanding who had been assaulting their caravans. M'ara tracked down the source of the rumor and demanded more information. She was given directions to meet with the minor lord. There, she established herself as a useful asset to the fretting elezen. Anthony de Vieri's Ul'dah caravans possessed a Sharlayan scroll that had been desperately attempting to travel back to Ishgard. Unsure whether the attacks were spearheaded by the Garlean Empire, Anthony turned to M'ara, who divined information worthy of the Lord. Satisfied in her divination, the Vieri family now seek to dismantle the assaulting Garleans and return the scroll to its rightful home. When off duty, M'ara lounges around Ul'dah and goes about her day with usual antics aplenty. Detesting the cold weather of Ishgard, M'ara has chosen to take up residence in the Vieri's Ul'dah estate. Unsatisfied with the prospect of having her own room (and no furiture to her name), M'ara weasled her way into rooming with the company's House Captain Oliver Hawkwood. The pair are frequently seen together and it's painfully obvious she's smitten with the hyur.
M'ara's concept of a relationship differs vastly from a typical person. Those she considers friends are few in number, though she strives to mend her cold ways and actually experience life without taking its challenges alone. Her recent connection with Anthony de Vieri has opened up countless doors for M'ara to expand her social circle.
