"The cloying stench of shadow lingers still." — Gaius van Baelsar

Motto: He who cannot preserve the sovereignty of his nation is unfit to rule it.
Weapon: Heirsbane ― a gunblade said to have spilled the blood of nine aspirants to the crown.

Legatus of the VIIth Legion presently dispatched to the western front, van Darnus boasts distinguished parentage in his sire, a founding figure of the Garlean Empire. A ruthless man who has risen to infamy even among his own people, he draws no distinction betwixt friend and foe when met with dissent. Tales are oft told in hushed whispers of van Darnus's swift rise to power upon the abrupt death by illness of his sire, whose body had no sooner grown cold than his closest aides were put to death. The White Raven seems a man well-suited to such dark rumors, with his plans to plunge Eorzea in to the Seventh Umbral Era.

Nael van Darnus appears frequently around the city states, warning of false prophets and claiming the changes on Dalamud are of Imperial doing, and for the betterment of the lands. Soon after, the construction of Castrum Novum was finished, and the lunar transmitter needed to call Dalamud upon Eorzea placed inside it and activated to bring down meteor. However, due to the efforts of the Grand Companies of Eorzea and several adventurers, the device was successfully destroyed.

Not long after, the companies were able to track down Nael's location to nearby the Allagan ruins in Camp Glory. An attack group was quickly assembled and sent to the region, only to find the Rivenroad. Using the floating island as an altar, Nael sends fiery rocks raining from Dalamud to the countryside. Losing a fierce battle, hoping to use the party as sacrificial offerings, Nael resorted to bathing in Dalamud's light for more power, losing what was left of his mind and becoming a being of pure hatred and destruction. But finally defeated, Nael's body becomes pure energy and disappears into wisps of light, leaving only his gunhalberd behind.
