Character Basics

Nicholas Holt ニコラス・ホルト: Nick is an aspiring machinist and is a smart Midlander, in the sense of mechanical stuff. He and his family hail from Ala Mhigo, but when the Empire took over, his father Lufaine joined the empire to protect them, leaving Nick to be raised as an imperial Ala Mhigan alongside his sister Emma and their mother Aurora. He aspires to make machines that help people, and to be like his father. He carries with him the pair of goggles his father gave him when he first went out adventuring. One day he built a clockwork puppet called a mammet, which he affectionately nicknamed Mammy, who serves as his assistant. He is kind and outgoing, but tends to be eccentric and too caught up in his work, leading others to believe that he is isolated. His main weapons are a sword and a gun, which sometimes he wields both at the same time to be versatile, although he is capable of fighting hand-to-hand although he mostly uses kicks, since he wants to protect his hands so he can still engineer. He is 19 and has a medium voice, but still young. Recently an incident has caused Nick to turn into a female.

Recently, a cult of void mages has reemerged and seems to be after Mayu Cloudwalker, but they are actually after Nick because the cult's leader wants revenge on his family after a past event with Lufaine, Nick's father. They basically terrorized the Holt family after they left Ala Mhigo until Lufaine drove them off. Since Nick was ever alert of them, he always eluded the cult to the present day. When Nick confessed to Mayu, they thought of the idea of using Mayu as bait to lure him out, but that backfired just then, but now Nick has lost his confidence because he put Mayu in danger, and that puts him in danger once more.

Now Nick wants to learn arcanism so he can be as strong as Mayu and so he can protect her by defeating the void mages, also getting rid of the people that terrorized him in the past.

The reason why he joined was to protect his family from being killed by the Garleans when they took over Ala Mhigo. Nick looks up to and wants to be like his father as an engineer, eventually also wanting to surpass him as well. His technology was some of the finest the world has seen, yet is no longer used in Garlemald at least. The goggles that Nick wears on his head were given to him by Lufaine as a gift and memento. ◢ Friends ♥ Mayu Cloudwalker: Mayu; A Doman Raen Nick encountered in the Quicksand while visiting Ul'dah in the form of a woman. He quickly made a great friend in her and joined her free company The Gilded Rose, making friends with the other members as well. Over time though new feelings for Mayu have arisen in Nick, but he is hesitant to reveal these feelings. Nevertheless, he cares for Mayu like a little sister and would go a long way to protect her. Recently he has just told her his feelings....but it seemed to only make things awkward. Things got even more strained when a void mage attacked Mayu and Lulu in Ul'dah, and Nick ran away instead of helping. This act has destroyed Nick's confidence in himself and now cannot bear himself to even face Mayu, regretting that he can't protect her. Mayu is in fact a reason Nick has decided to take up arcanism: so he can protect her and be strong. ● Kyrsaria Venmortis: Madam Red; An Ishgardian noble Elezen who has very recently become Nick's mentor in the ways of the arcanist. Not much is known about her to Nick, but he has faith in her to teach him to be a mage. ● Blazerro Draken: Blaze; A Miqo'te that once made a nice dinner for Nick after the drunken boar wrestling contest. Nick often appreciates the advice he gives out, and views him like a brother. ● An'zero Tia: Zero; A Seeker Miqo'te that Nick frequently likes to mess with. Nick usually makes puns with his name being related to the number zero. ● Vahn Kasch: Grump/Vahn; A grumpy Raen who Nick doesn't know that well, other than that he knows that Vahn is Rage of the Masks after a night at Costa del Sol. ● Cotota Khal: Cota; A mischievous Xaela hunter who apparently loves to get in the way of Nick's advances with Mayu, leading to a stressed friendship with her. Putting a green smoke bomb in his pants doesn't really help that much. ● Togy Brandmakt: Mr. Mask; A huge masked Highlander who is also Mayu's mentor. After the confession, Mask gave Nick a reality check: That he was weak and unable to protect the one he loves, who is Mayu. With that in mind, Nick has sworn and is determined to grow stronger to both protect Mayu and to prove himself to Mr. Mask. ◢ Enemies ● Lucretia Ebongrave: Grampy Lulu; A Garlean Nick bumped into at the Quicksand. It is shortly after revealed to Nick that Lulu is Mayu's foster sister, and now is like an anti-hero to Nick. Both Nick and Lulu share several things in common, including similar backgrounds and their feelings for Mayu, and have sworn to kill the other if one hurts Mayu. With Nick running away, he becomes on Lulu's hit list. ● Angry Lioness: My rival; Not so much as an enemy to Nick as she is a rival, Nick first met this female Hellsguard at a drunken boar wrestling competition while...you know drunk. After she was making fun of Mayu and Blaze, Nick fought a small skirmish with Lioness after being insulted as well, and was almost beaten by the hulking Roegadyn before the others stopped the fight. Nick has then warmed up to Lioness again, viewing her as a rival and wishing to fight her again one day. ● Aleria Frostheart: A female snowman; A white-haired, white-eyed Hyur Midlander Nick found at the Grindstone. After trying to make jokes at her, Aleria insulted Nick and almost provoked him to the point of drawing his gun, almost banning him from the Grindstone and Runestone, but luckily he stopped himself. Now he doesn't think of Aleria in a good light.
