History

Rakka'li Kuhn is the third son born to Rakka Kuhn, a respected huntress of a Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te tribe deep in the Twelveswood. He is the older identical twin to Rakka'sae Kuhn. Already somewhat revered due to her birthing two sons already, Rakka Kuhn's prestige increased even more with the birth of her twin boys.

The twins were insperable throughout their childhood. They took to calling each other "Li" and "Sae" due to there being no other third or fourth born sons in their tribe. As they grew it became apparent that Li was shaping up to be the leader of the two, often dragging Sae about for whatever it is he wanted to do in any given moment. The twins were, as expected, extremely close, but there was a strong tendency for the two of them to make a competition out of anything. Once, while trying to beat his brother at climbing a tree by climbing higher than Li, Sae fell and severey injured his back. Li felt responsible for this, because every time Sae had climbed higher than him, he had gone out of his way to climb just a little bit higher, this egging on continued until Sae fell. From that moment on Li decided to take responsibility for his brother's safety.

While Li was close to his mother, he wasn't nearly as close to her as Sae, to this day it remains Li's a source of resentment toward his brother. Rakka Kuhn was a wise, powerful, stoic figure that Li respected a great deal and aspired to emulate as best as he could manage, and it always hurt him in his youth that Sae was closer to her by far.

During the fall of Dalamud, when the twins were fourteen cycles old, the destruction brought by Bahamut sent the forest into a frenzy. Li was with his mother when calamity struck, he watched, frozen in fear, as the raging Twelveswood put an end to his mother's life. With the forest burning, Li was forced to find Sae and flee far into the Wood, where the two were waylaid by an Ixal scout. Li was severely wounded in the ensuing struggle. Sae, who had been praying to Menphina to spare Li in exchange for him never uttering another word, undertook a vow of silence after this event. Li thought Sae's vow was rather ridiculous, and the two have been rather tense over the matter ever since.

With the family gone, Li and Sae became one of many refugees who flooded into Gridania after the calamity. With the influx of hungry mouths and the shortage of food, the twins fell into the role of homeless drifter orphans. The two came close to starving on more than one occassion, and both had to adjust quickly to taking whatever work they could get in exchange for gil, this was a largely alien way of life for the two boys, who had grown up mostly living off the bounty of the Twelveswood with family.

The worst of their travels brought them to Ul'dah where - threatened with starvation again - Li discovered that there existed a minority of wealthy people that were very interested in young, exotic Keeper flesh. Desperate, Li sold himself repeatedly to keep he and Sae fed and off of the streets, with Sae remaining oblivious of Li's work "arrangements". These experiences had a profound effect on Li, though he remains largely ignorant of exactly how much it has effected him.

Abruptly, Li gave up this line of "work" as quickly as he started it, when one "job" went awry and Sae almost ended up being sucked into the same lifestyle. The twins uprooted with all of their money and possessions and left the jewel of Thanalan as quickly as they could.

Eventually the twins were able to find reasonable work that kept them traveling throughout the Black Shroud and La Noscea, never settling in one place for long. This way of life persisted to the fifth year after the Calamity.

Personality

Disposition: Rakka'li can be rather pragmatic, his early life in the Twelveswood and the hardships that came after the fall of Dalamud has rendered him seemingly unshakable and carefree unless faced with the real threat of injury or death. This at times can make him seem callous or that perhaps nothing really matters to him. He warms easily to new people and is often one of the first at a party to be laughing and joking with those he met moments before. There are rare days that a dark mood comes over him, when a brooding solitude becomes his sole desire, fortunately it's equally rare for these slumps to last longer than a day, and they are not likely to be seen by those who know him.

Perceptions: Traditionally raised - though now somewhat familiar with the ways of the other races. Rakka'li sometimes has trouble understanding the motivations and viewpoints of outsiders, even other Miqo'te Keepers that were raised outside of the wood. His poor formal education belies his innate cleverness, and though his reading skills are poor he has a knack for rhetoric, in part thanks to his mother's skillful storytelling and his storytelling in turn to entertain siblings and cousins.
