Vash was adopted as young child his parents raising him in the Hyur ways thinking it was better for him to forget the outdated tribal ways of most Miqo’te. Vash has the demeanor of a Hyur although still curious about his Miqo’te family history. The only clue to it was a bow made from the trees in Girdania which he gave to Kiyone promising her to protect her.

History

Parents:

Elizabeth Ann Ashford (Mother)-She was a Noble woman in Ul’Dah. Because she was raised around nobility most of her life, it was not surprising when she married Vash's father, as he was considered of high noble status. She has a "you-can-do-whatever-your-heart-desires" personality. She encouraged all of her children to push to meet their dreams, no matter what they were.

Alexander Christopher Ashford (Father) - Was a high ranking member in the Immortal Flames; now retired. His personality was "the-only-way-a-person-can-grow-is-through-conflict-and-hard-work" type. He urged his children to work hard so they would not take anything for granted. Alexander was hit the hardest after his son passed, feeling that he pushed too hard for him to join the Knights of the Barracuda.

Siblings:

Ryan Cyrus Ashford- Vash’s younger brother only 19. He is the only "blood" related child to Alexander and Elizabeth. He joined the Knights of the Barracuda 3 years before the Calamity. Ryan is a people-pleaser, only joining the Knights to gain his fathers approval. Ryan was at the battle when Dalamund fell and was transported. He returned home to his family, who was completely confused as to who he was. They were frightened that a random man had broken into their home. Ryan tried to spark memories with his family but to no avail. Although his appearance was strikingly similar to his older brother, Vash, which only piqued Vash’s interest. The family remembered they had a younger brother/son although they thought he died in the Calamity.

Nathaniel Robert Ashford (Nathan or Nate for short)- Vash’s oldest brother who was 25. He is related to Vash by blood. He was taken in by Alexander and Elizabeth when he was five. Although his memory about Vash and his parents is foggy since it was so long ago he would be the best one to help Vash find their real parents if they ever decided to go looking. Treated the best by everyone and always a people person. He was lazy, dodging work at the teahouse where he works; although his boss Ophelia seems to always track him down no matter where he is. Nathan aspires to be an adventurer like his brother Vash, but due to his family’s “Work for what you want” attitude, he works at the teahouse for money.

Childhood:

Vash as a child was energetic, obnoxious, and inquisitive. Vash’s earliest memory is receiving his first sword from his family on his 7th birthday and ever since then he had been interested in swordsmanship. He was home schooled with his brother’s and was taught until he was 16 when his father thought there was not much point to learn more and decided something more practical like learning a trade craft or battle craft would be more useful. He also disliked school as he would rather be practicing with his sword or playing, but he did pick up some skills. Vash learned how to read, write, and basic math from the personal teacher, although he didn't see the skill as important. Some of his swordsmanship skills from his father while other battle skills are self taught he learned most of his skills from his personal trainer Kazumi. He also learned how to ride a chocobo from his mother and learned how to care for them and raise chocobos from their chocobo breeder Jessie. When Vash was not in school his favorite activities were playing with the family’s chocobos. Also playing Garleans and Eorzeans with his friends and brothers. Vash was not as popular as his brother Nathan, though Ryan and Vash latched onto Nathan and fed off his popularity. Ryan and Vash quickly became friends with the other children of Limsa Lominsa thanks to Nathan. Although one of Vash's biggest regret is not urging his alleged deceased brother to reconsider joining the Knights of the Barracuda because it forced Vash to grow up quickly realizing he lost his baby brother. He blames himself and the Garleans for that.

Strengths: Vash is very skilled with a sword being trained since he was a child. He is very versatile in combat and always loves a good fight when he can get one.

Weaknesses: Although Vash is exceptionally skilled with a sword he sometimes is over confident for his own good. So he sometimes tends to underestimate battles.

Strengths: Vash loves cooking making random cooking "experiments" in his free time. He also loves hunting and fishing trying to get back to at least some of his Miqo'te heritage.

Weaknesses: Vash is not super skilled in cooking so his "experiments" don't always work out as planned. Although Vash loves hunting and Fishing he is not patient enough sometimes thinking its stupid to track a prey or wait for a fish to come.

• Xenedra Ambreaus-Vash has been on a lot of adventures with her so far and had fun every minute. He loves her fun personality rivaling close to his personality. Xenedra is someone Vash loves to hang around.

• Alothia Starkwood-Vash grew close with Alothia during the small time they spent together helping her take down Joshua. He understood what need to be done and respects her for it. He also admires her very welcoming personality.

• Paradyme Capellago-

• Belisar Starkwood-Alothia's brother Vash met him during a tough time. Although they met briefly he liked his interesting personality.

• Kiyone Bloodrose-Kiyone is someone very close to Vash. Having promised to protect her through out her travels Vash feels almost like a big brother to her. He loves her shy personality and the way she expresses her emotions. Vash sees her as a very close friend.

• Scarlet Willow-Vash absolutely adores this woman. He sees her as his for lack of better words Batman to his Robin. He loves the adventures they had and hopes that they will continue.

• Inja Dehqon-Inja is another very close person to Vash. He grew close to her in his very personal talk with her in Wineport. He shared his past with Jessie and Kazumi. He also showed her the Journal his brother left him as she tried to help him read it. He thinks of her as his other little sister, and has to look out for her.

Enemies:

Kazumi-Kazumi was Vash’s role model and swordsmanship trainer for the five years during the calamity and was a close friend of Vash’s dad in the Immortal Flames. A rising star in the military but was swiftly removed do to his alcoholism. Soon after the Calamity Kazumi found his house destroyed and turned to Vash’s father for help in exchange for letting Kazumi stay with them he taught Vash how to be a great swordsman like him. Although Kazumi was still a Drunkard he taught Vash although being that he was drunk most of the times lead to accidents involving Vash such as being cut or one time stabbed in the chest. Vash and Kazumi went on many adventures together although Kazumi was smart telling him that he needed potions for their adventure which was an excuse to buy alcohol or he needed to talk to the town guard which was his excuse to go to the brothel and get Vash to ask his parents for money to support his bad habits. Kazumi was still someone Vash idolized a lot. Vash did not realize this until he was much older but still respected him for his skill with a sword but he thought the pain of the cuts he received he thought it was just a better way of teaching him as it showed him not to mess up or let his guard down. Vash despises Kazumi blaming him for causing Jessie to defect and swears to hunt him down and kill him.

Jessie(Deceased)-Jessie was Vash's first love.They had been dating since he was 16 and thought they should try new things. Vash lost his virginity to her when he was 17 and Jessie was 20. He loved Jessie and he loved her is most embarrassing moment was when he ran naked to his home across Limsa Lominsa because his brothers thought it would be funny to steal his clothes when he was skinny dipping with Jessie. Although everything was not great Vash was in love with Jessie until finding out she was actually a Garlean spy using his family to get information on the Eorzeans by acting as a chocobo breeder to avoid suspicion. After she told him she stabbed Vash in the back whispering in his ear that his trainer Kazumi was working with her as well. Vash tracked her down killing her she was his first kill.
