Basic Info

Tachi is mostly of cheery disposition and optimistic in nature, if not a little clueless and lacking a bit of understanding of unspoken nuances of social interaction. He is easily approachable, and is usually polite towards strangers and friends alike. His formal politeness wanes as his familiarity with someone grows, but his kind and caring disposition never fades except in dire situations. To the delight of his master and to the despair of his friends and family, Tachi had no sense of self-care, often ignoring injuries and hunger if it meant logging in more time training. He was employed by an adventuring company with focus on monster hunting, however after a cataclysmic disbanding of the company, he finds himself on the road with only his bag of armor and the clothes he wore.

Appearance & Personality

Tachi has a rather normal appearance, not being entirely handsome nor entirely bland. Perhaps his biggest and most noticeable feature are the scars upon his face, with the stories behind them deep yet unspoken as Tachi prefers not to share the stories behind how he got them. His red eyes were another striking feature, an accident from Garlean experimentation. He was raised with slight neglect and abuse from his father, but somehow he ended up having a nurturing and caring nature. As selfless as he is reckless, Tachi often makes his friends worry for his health, as he seems to prioritize improvement, training, or other people's well-being much more than his own.
More often than not, he speaks bluntly yet politely. If he is able to formulate into words the feelings and thoughts he is having, he will say so, but he is not socially tone deaf; Tachi would know if something he is thinking would not be appropriate to say.

Biography

Childhood

Tachi's father originally stood up against the Empire when they came knocking on Doma's doors. He fought, lost, and hid away with his wife once Garlean rule had been established, and upon learning of his wife's pregnancy, Tachi's father went through countless prayers and bowed at many people's feet to obtain safe passage to Kugane. As soon as Tachi's sixth nameday passed, he was assigned to a cruel and abusive master who would teach him further on how to grow by the sword in place of his father. However badly he was beaten, he showed great resilience and determination to learn the way of the sword. And so he kept suffering through his master's training.

Teenage

In his adolescent years, Tachi's sword skill was already on par with his master's. He was trained to live off the environment, to blend with shadows, and hunt men, all of which he learned frighteningly quickly. He was scrutinized for deviating from the Way of the Warrior. Tachi was then sent by his master onto paid missions that he disguised as "training exercises," and no matter the outcome, his master would say that Tachi had failed, keeping the pay for himself. Angered by the lack of progress he seemed to be having, Tachi grew more distant. Tachi found himself drifting around Kugane until he was eventually tricked and convinced to enlist into the Imperial Army. He left home with a fire in his eyes that he could do something to change the way things were, to help govern a country who yet had a resistance movement even after over two decades of Imperial rule. He watched his fellow Domans suffer, forced to stand tall and look ahead.
Tachi regretted the situation and his lack of ability to help. He hasn't had the perfect chance to escape and help the people of Doma. Not when his superiors would beat him into a bloody pulp as a way to vent steam. His resilience and combat prowess earned the interest of Imperial scientists, taking him as a test subject and infused him with distilled aether energy to test how their recent studies would affect a Doman. Fortunately, the procedure granted Tachi immense physical abilities. He was stronger, faster, and reacted quickly to stimulus. They didn't quite reach what they wanted, and for their own security, they locked Tachi in isolation.
When the resistance overran his post, Tachi cast aside his Imperial allegiances and stood with his Doman brethren. Tachi suffered severe wounds in the conflict, but he was retrieved by the Doman Liberation Front and nursed back to health. He wasn't welcomed with open arms, but he was allowed to serve alongside his countrymen, even given samurai wargear.

Adulthood to Present

Tachi didn't exactly stand out as much as the next Doman freedom fighter. He fought in skirmishes, he helped out in camp, he cooked, he cleaned. His physical capabilities made him a prime choice for manual labor. However, during the initial rush on the Siege of Doma Castle, Tachi was knocked to his knees by an explosion from Imperial arms, and noticed a Doman soldier cornered in a nook easily overlooked due to how the walls were angled. Tachi rushed to his aid, but soon realized how painfully outmatched he was. Somehow, this champion of an Imperial fighter was here and picking on this one man. Tachi fought, suffered, and persevered until he ultimately won with grave injuries. With the deed finally done, Tachi helped the Doman soldier back into the fight while he retired to the rear. Following soon after, it was said that several injured Domans were captured on the way to a safer point of operations by the retreating Empire soldiers, and Tachi was first to volunteer.
His training proved efficient, and his augmentation proved perfect. He chased after the Imperials relentlessly that his fellow warriors could not keep up any longer. For three days, Tachi harried the retreating Imperials, mostly assisted by Shinobi. There had been a case that he was mistaken for one. When the prisoners were found, and the Imperials too exhausted from running, Tachi and the shinobi he encountered took down the Imperials under cover of night. Tachi's fellow warriors caught up after the fighting was over. When they returned to the House of the Fierce, Tachi was under investigation of abandoning his team. Testimonials from those that went with him all seemed to point out Tachi's unceasing need to push forward, and how thorough he had been in tracking them.
When Doma was freed, Tachi went home to Kugane and was welcomed by his parents with tears in their eyes. His master reluctantly took him back in and began to train him as before. Unfortunately, this cost him his life in a training accident, not knowing how much Tachi had eclipsed him after the war. Branded a ronin, Tachi was free from the binding responsibilities of a samurai. Despite criticism, he was allowed to roam free under grounds that he did not have intention to kill his master, and that the accident was nothing but unfortunate. Tachi embraced the title, despite the stigma attached to it, but was put into an odd situation due to the investigation revealing his paternal heritage was unbroken all the way back to an age when Samurai clans ruled the land, albeit divided.
Requesting for more investigation into the legitimacy of these claims, Tachi decided to travel the land and gain worldly knowledge. He boarded the next ship to Eorzea, where he ran into an adventurer called Talan Dracht, with which he developed a fast and deep bond of friendship with. After a few months, a letter arrives to deliver news of Tachi's requested investigation. The investigators have confirmed that he was the heir of a branch family of the Takeda clan, renowned horsemasters and vanguards, making him a higher-ranking samurai (and noble) than his master. His title as samurai was reinstated, and as a token of acknowledgement, he was granted a set of Myochin haori as befits the samurai of the times. Now, he travels the land to carry out his samurai duties, protecting the peace, and his personal desire to never again see anyone in the same state that his fellow Domans had been under Garlean rule.

Relations

Romantic Interest Platonic Love Good Standing Poor Standing
Tadhara Lion: Having met on a battlefield, Tachi has had a high opinion of the Paladin-aspirant Tadhara. Whilst their first conversation was a clash of ideals, Tachi and Tadhara would keep running into each other, with the latter often criticizing Tachi's carelessness in training or combat. Repeated stern conversations had Tachi eventually change his lifestyle, being careful and safe in his practices. It was then that he also felt a deep attraction to her, which he had declared bluntly and proudly, much to the discomfort of the latter. The two are currently in a relationship, taking small and careful steps along the path.
Khiyo Nhullo : One of Tachi's very first Eorzean friends, Khiyo has opened Tachi to a world where it is alright to show his weakness, to provide a safe environment for him to let his guard down. Due to this, as well as Khiyo providing emotional therapy to help Tachi cope with his rough background, Tachi has developed a high sense of trust towards Khiyo. Her motherly instincts has grown to the point where he treats her as the mother figure in his life, often calling her "ma". Sometimes it slips in public, and he is automatically assumed to be her lover.
Talan Dracht: THE very first Eorzean friend Tachi has made. Taking a risk and deciding to trust Talan outright the moment he had landed in Ul'dah, Tachi has since worked with Talan through multiple mercenary contracts, fighting side by side with the Lominsan lancer through thick and thin. Now, Tachi treats him as a brother, helping him with tasks as an officer of Talan's Ebonheart Company.
Joyce Blythe: A friend from the Grindstone, Tachi and Joyce started their friendship after their rounds in the tournament. Joyce's friendly demeanor and playful nature, as well as being an enlisted member of the Flames, allowed Tachi to trust in her quickly. Together, they train to improve their skills, or they go out and talk about their lives. More recently, Tachi has grown closer to her enough to also look after her safety when she works in the Epoch tavern, despite Joyce being fully capable of protecting herself.
Leo Arkwright: Leo and Tachi originally met through Talan, working on a contract out in La Noscea fighting a Ziz and a Coeurl. They improved their friendship through Leo acting as a coach and instructor for Tachi and some others. Though they have not interacted with each other frequently in recent times, Tachi's bond with Leo is forged in battle. It is strong and not easily broken.
"Tsuna": Tsuna is the name Khiyo has come up with to mask her true identity when she is masquerading as a white-haired miqo'te with distinct red makeup. Tachi treats them as two separate people, but does notice similarities. Tachi was quick to trust in Tsuna due to her having "an aura similar" to Khiyo.
