Unfortunate circumstances at a young age lead him to take up the profession of piracy. Eventually, his crew met an untimely end leaving Kyo to fend for himself. Not only did he use his newfound abilities to survive off the land, he also managed to make a bit of gil out of it, selling his services in the form of mercenary work and as a hunter-for-hire. APPEARANCE Short in stature and yet taller than most Lalafell, Kyo is mostly distinguishable by his iconic dirty blonde, spiked hair, a tattoo along the right side of his cheek and forehead, and a pair of goggles that he is curiously attached to. He is most often seen walking about wearing a black leather coat he acquired during his days of piracy. He can also be seen wearing an interestingly designed sleeveless shirt and scarf on occasion (mostly during his time in the field whilst on a job or while hunting). PERSONALITY Kyo puts up a 'tough guy' front to those he is unfamiliar with. To those that he is comfortable with, however, he tends to be a goofball; sarcastic, vulgar and just generally bawdy. Put a drink in his hand and the effects are intensified ten fold. Above all else, he is loyal to the end. Befriending Kyoroku means befriending him for life. Betray him or his comrades, however, and he will be your worst nightmare. LIKES Drinking. A habit he picked up during his days of piracy, Kyo never turns down the opportunity for a drink or three. His drink of choice? Lominsan Rum, of course. Traveling. Be it land, air or sea, Kyo is always on the move looking for opportunity. Fighting. Forced to make a living out of it, Kyo grew to love his profession. DISLIKES History. Kyo avoids discussions of history due to his personal troubled past. Abandonment. Having lost his family twice, he treasures what companionship he has. Weakness. If there's one thing he can't stand, it's seeing someone not living up to their potential. Clowns. ... What can he say? He hates clowns... STRENGTHS Speed. What Kyo lacks in raw physical power, he makes up with his uncanny speed, agility and dexterity. Steadfast. When he has a set goal, Kyo will stop at nothing to accomplish it!. Loyal. Kyo is very fond of his companions and will do anything he can to aid and protect them. He leaves no man behind. WEAKNESSES Gambling. Anyone who knows Kyo will tell you he is not the luckiest Lalafell. That doesn't stop him, of course. Prideful. This is a double-edged sword for Kyo. Usually a strength, this trait more often than not ends up hurting him in the end. Socializing. Kyo has spent years alone relying on only himself for survival. Now that he has re-entered society, he's struggling to connect with people again. BACKSTORY Childhood - Kyoroku Shoroku's birth was not a significant one. His father and mother were both traveling merchants constantly on the road. He was born in a caravan somewhere in the outskirts of the Thanalan region. Complications arose during the delivery and with no doctor available to assist, Kyo's mother died during the process. Kyo's father was now faced with the task of handling the family business and raising a child on his own. With the caravan constantly on the move, Kyo never knew the luxury of a stable life. He aided his father with the business for the most part but when the caravan made it's stops in the various towns and camps they traveled through, Kyo took those opportunities to create his own forms of entertainment; stealing food from merchant stands, pickpocketing passers-by, looting merchant chests, etc. He felt his actions justified, claiming he was helping his father to 'make ends meet'. His father never caught on to his activities, making it a testament to Kyo's abilities. For the first ten years, this was Kyoroku's life. It wasn't glamorous but he loved his father and that's all that mattered to him. Life was relatively good for him and his father... That is until the day his father decided to branch out his business to Limsa Lominsa. As they were en route to Vesper Bay to board a ferry, they were approached by a group of bandits disguised as Ul'dahn guards. They stopped their caravan on the grounds of a 'checkpoint search'. Kyo took the opportunity to 'relieve himself' while his father stayed behind to watch the merchandise. Minutes later, Kyo was startled by the sound of his father yelling in the distance. He made his way back to the caravan as hastily as he could, only to discover it had been consumed in flames. He searched but could not find his father anywhere. Then he heard his father's voice again, only this time it was further down the road. As he approached his father's yells, he began to notice a blood trail on the ground. Kyo's heart jumped to his throat. He didn't know what to do or think. His body seemed to move itself towards his father's location. That's when he saw it. A body laying in the road in a pool of blood. Kyo was paralyzed. His mind raced but was unable to process what he saw. It seemed like he stood there for an eternity. He snapped out of his daze when he heard the voices of the men he saw earlier. They were coming for him. He had to think fast; stay with his father or run away? He looked at his father one more time with tears swelling in his eyes. He knew the men would get him if he stayed. With a heavy heart, he whispered "I love you...", turned, and ran. He ran as fast as he could towards Vesper Bay in hopes of finding someone there who could help. When he arrived, there was no one there. The merchant stalls were empty and there wasn't a soul to be seen. The voices were getting closer and Kyo had to do something. Almost instinctively, all the years of Kyo's experience kicked in. He dived and ducked behind merchant stalls and lamp posts, keeping out of the mens' range of view. He made his way closer and closer to the ferry dock and discovered a ship still docked. It was at this point Kyo realized he was cornered. The men had every exit blocked. There was no where left to go except towards the ship, so Kyo did just that. He jumped into the water and grabbed hold of the anchor chain. After searching for what seemed like forever, the men gave up their search and made their way back towards the caravan. Kyo breathed a sigh of relief; finally, they were gone. Suddenly the chain began to raise. Still hanging on, there was nowhere left to go but up. Kyo climbed the chain and onto the side of the ship where he discovered an open window and climbed in. Teenage Years - Sample text.
