When drunk, he either becomes cynical and emotional, or quiet and passive, depending on the mood and the company. His hands shake noticably when he's upset, and his expression is as readable as a book, despite his best efforts. He's an angry crier, which he considers unfortunate given his status as an angry individual. He isn't always quick to trust people, but when he befriends someone, he will do anything to keep them safe. More than anything, Aekira is driven by a desire to help the people he's close to, if only to repay them for constantly protecting him.

Aekira Swyfte was born and raised with his two brothers in a village near Bronze Lake. He took an interest in both his father's work as a sailor and his mother's as a musical instructor at a young age, and often dreamt of becoming a bard and having grand adventures. After his mother succumbed to illness during his twelfth summer, Aekira accompanied his elder brother, Fer, to Ul'dah, where the latter made a living as a performer and gladiator. It was on Ruby Road that he met Drake siblings U'Rhynaer and U'Yuna. The pair introduced both brothers to their native branch of the U tribe, where Aekira first learned how to use a bow and arrow. When the Garlean invasion of Eorzea reared its ugly head, Aekira and Fer rejoined with their arcanist brother, Scero, and the three formed an adventuring party. They enjoyed great success, until the battle at Carteneau and the following Calamity claimed Fer's life.

===Post-Calamity===
After Fer's death at Carteneau, Aekira and Scero had a falling out, not speaking for many years. In the meantime, Aekira worked as something akin to a bounty hunter, taking jobs in Thanalan for some time until he was recruited by a company. (The current whereabouts of this company are unknown, and he refuses to say.) He reconnected with U'Rhynaer, who has since become his best friend and closest confidant, occasional awkward flirtation aside. Aekira first met Scero again some five years after they separated, at which time he discovered the death of their father, and the foul play that may have been involved. This is a time period Aekira rarely elaborates upon, and it is only known that Scero disappeared not long after their reconciliation. It's thought that Scero's supposed death became the inspiration for Aekira's latest business venture, as they had become quite close again after settling their differences.

==Personality==
Hiro is something of a clean slate, free from the burdens of whatever life he once lived before amnesia befell him. He is friendly to anyone who hasn't proved themselves unworthy of his kindness, and is perfectly willing to share a table and a drink with complete strangers should they invite the opportunity. While he's happy with his comfortable life in La Noscea, he's lately found himself longing for something more, something new, and is more than willing to break a rule or two for adventure. He carries with him an almost childlike sense of wonder, and sometimes naïveté, that often causes others to mistake him for being younger than he truly is. Conversely, his youthful nature does belie a certain wisdom, oft shown in seemingly mundane, yet equally meaningful statements about how he thinks the world may work. He's an incredible lightweight, when it comes to drink, and tends to turn into a drooling mass of gibberish and bad puns after just one mug of ale. Despite his outward friendliness, large crowds of strangers raise anxieties from him, leading him to prefer small groups of close friends over a horde of acquaintances. He's very protective of those closest to him, sometimes even a little clingy if he's feeling fragile, yet does just as well on his own if need be. He's prone to bouts of melancholy, but has yet to be seen angry. Ironically, he also has a good memory.

*Reading. Hiro is not only quite smart, but has an incredible love of learning. He was quick to re-learn how to read and write Eorzean, and spends much of his free time delving into books of all sorts.

*Food! Both Doman and Eorzean. He's in the process of figuring out how to cook for himself.

Kri'sie Crimsonlion and Yuki Kurenai: Hiro met both Kri'sie and Yuki recently at Bronze Lake, after being invited by the former to join their impromptu hot spring party. Hiro found the brash, loud Hellsguard Kri'sie to be funny and welcoming, despite her abrasive nature. He also found a kindred spirit in the Doman Yuki, and they talked at length about the unusual nature of Eorzean culture. (Despite Hiro most-likely being Eorzean himself.)

Gwyn Trahaern: While they've scare met, Hiro quickly took a liking to Gwyn, finding her career as a reporter beyond intriguing. Their first meeting was filled with a variety of stories, silly humor, and more talk of food than the average man could stomach. Pun not intended.

[[Judiel Farendaire]]: Until recently, Hiro was rather ignorant to the complexities of Ishgardian culture. Through a stroke of luck, he met the kindly Judiel, who was quick to teach him the basics about her homeland's culture and war. ==Biography==
===Arrival===
About a year and a half ago, a small Doman refugee settlement on La Noscea was disturbed by a strange occurrence. A mysterious man recognized by no one seemingly fell out of the sky, crashing through the boughs of pine trees and landing in a rose bush. He wore no clothing and carried no keepsakes, having only a series of mysterious tattoos to possibly identify him by. When he awoke, he struggled with speech, but managed just enough to communicate that he had no knowledge of where, or WHO he was. The mystery man spent some time recovering and relearning. He quickly remembered how to properly speak, read, and write, but little else. The refugees dubbed him "Matsubara," for the circumstances in which he was found, and soon after, the man chose the forename "Hiro." He's lived peacefully with his new family, forming particularly strong bonds with the three who found him, Rinko, Stahl, and Maiya, as well as Elala, the farmhand who took them in. On one occasion, however, peace was disturbed, and the settlement was attacked by a small group of bandits. It is then that Hiro discovered his tattoos' tie to Arcanima, instinctively using one of the spells to repel the attacker. Since then, Hiro has grown restless, trying to uncover the secrets of the spells into his body. While he still lives on Vylbrand, he aches to explore the world beyond, and see what he finds.

At the time, virtually nothing is known about Hiro from before his appearance at the refugee colony. As more is revealed, more will be added.
