==Character==

K'airos was born in a tribe of the Sagolii desert, which she left behind, along many of the huntresses, to fight in the Battle of Cartenau. Thinking that her tribe was destroyed due to the Calamity, she went on to become a Brass Blade in Ul'dah.
Five years ago, she abandoned her post and killed a member of the Sultansworn during a fit of anger. She was promptly imprisoned, acussed with murder, and officially executed.
Yet here she is.

===Appearance===

She has red hair, dark skin and blue eyes. She can often be seen an obscuring hood and, a few other times, a feather headress or a feathered helmet, Her chosen attire varies wildly and depends on the occassion.

==History==

When asked about her past, K'airos claps her hands together and rolls her eyes away. She claims to have been abducted and sold as a slave five or six years ago. She changed hands a few times, although she recalls none of her masters, until one of them put her on a ship to the New World. In that voyage, she met an Ishgardian priest who would later buy and free her.
Sadly, she was in an unknown continent, with no means to go back home. Since her tribe had died in the Calamity, she decided that there wasn't a home to go back to.
She followed the priest, acting as bodyguard and servant, much to his disaproval. But there was no stopping her. She'd continue to follow him for four years, until his path brought her back to Eorzea. There they parted ways, and she went on to find a home in the Black Shroud.

K'airos spends most of her day suited in the Brass Blade uniform: a suit of red chainmail armor, though she sometimes drops it in favor of a lighter bronze plate with bulgy clothes underneath.
When off-duty, she favors sleeveless shirts of light colors, trousers and sandals. Sometimes, she's so annoyed at the boots of her uniform she will simply remain bare-footed for the rest of the day, as long as she doesn't have to walk in Thalanan's sands.

K'airos used to act like a jester. It's hard to say if it was a concious effort on her part or if it's something engrained deeply in her mind. She was determined to have fun at all times and in all situations. The only times she could be seen unhappy were after arguments with her mother or sisters.

When D'aijeen found her and told her about the deaths of the tribe, K'airos took upon herself the responsability of becoming the role model and protector of her younger sister. Unsure on how to do that, the way she chose is to concede most of her sister's whims, as long as they don't put in danger their financial stability or their personal security, while presenting herself as eternally cheerful.

She's prone to losing herself in thought, ussually when handsome men are around. If approached by them during these moments, she will blush and act awkwardly, ussually running away with a blushed face and a shouted apology.

K'airos was never a very religious adherent when she lived in the desert. However, after the Calamity, she has grown much more attached to Azeyma, the deity the tribe worshipped. Her devotion is on the edge of zealotry, though she is ussually nice (or distracted) enough to not be confrontational about it.

While the tribe's huntresses capitalized on this ease to teach her how to use a spear and become a huntress herself, her mother tried to instill the knowledge of numbers and geometry. Unlike her younger sister K'aijeen, K'airos reluctantly accepted her mother's teachings, not because of interest or hunger for knowledge, but to please her. This was not enough to make her remember the lessons more often and clearly, though.

She still learnt the way of the huntress and, during her 19th birthday, she and whomever the tribe could spare left to join the war effort against the garlean menace. Others followed some time after, between them her father. However, the Grand Companies assigned them to different military fronts, though both were in the Foreign Brigades.
A year later, she would be sent to join the battle at Cartenau.

K'airos was found unconscious by her sister K'aijeen, now named D'aijeen, at some point after the Calamity. When she woke up, her sister told her the rest of the tribe had been killed by the Calamity. Unsure on what to do, K'airos decided to go to Ul'dah in a rash decision, bringing D'aijeen with her.
Her service in the Foreign Brigades allowed her to leap and join the Brass Blades, who she currently serves. She is moved a lot across Thanalan, and the pay isn't spectacular. For this reason, the sisters haven't been able to get a permanent residence, instead renting rooms or small properties wherever K'airos is stationed at. She seldomly takes on mercenary work outside the Blades to increase their funds, and other times she allows small criminals to pay a fee to her in exchange of not being reported or incarcelated. All in the name of saving to buy a house of their own, somewhere. Anywhere.

This is a largely perfunctory ritual but still important. Children who reach their fifth year are taken by the nunh who fathered them to the tribal Elders. There, their name will be spoken to [[Azeyma, the Warden]], Keeper of the Sun as an assurance that there will be many more sunrises in their future.

Around age 7 or 8, a child will begin to accompany the huntresses and hunters of the tribe on hunts at regular intervals. At first, they are brought on simply as observers, encouraged to ask questions when the hunters are not actively engaged, and may be asked questions themselves. Over time, they are taught how to hold weapons, how to aim, how to track, corner, and manipulate the intended prey. These lessons continue for a number of years.

At age 10 they have to recite all they have learnt from the verbal lessons.

When a child sees their sixteenth nameday, their lessons culminate in a ritualistic first kill. The children accompany the huntresses just as they always have, but this time they are expected to take down a beast for themselves, landing the killing blow. If they succeed, they return marked as an adult. However, a number of youths fail every year. Should that be the case, they are sent on a foraging, tasked with searching the desert or nearby regions for something useful to the tribe as a whole: new hunting grounds, a new town to trade. If they cannot succeed in this, they are not allowed back.

Death is a fact of life for the Hipparion tribe, as the Sagolii Desert is uncompromising in its brutality. As the tribe is nomadic, they have no established burial ground, nor are the ever-shifting sands conducive to consistent burial. Because of this, members of the Hipparion tribe have developed a ritual of burning the bodies of their dead. Elders may speak a few prayers to Azeyma and Nald'thal, and the body is often burnt with a few totems - carved sun and Hipparion figurines, and one or two personal possessions that the tribe cannot repurpose and wants to send off with the deceased.

The Hipparion give thanks and make offerings to Azeyma on the longest day of the year. A great fire is lit and the people of the tribe dance around the great pyre. The festival has deep meaning to the Hipparion tribe and it is not permitted for outsiders to participate or watch.

The shaman of the tribe share many similarities with the conjurers of Gridania. They perform a number of important roles within the tribe, one of which is they act as the tribes healers. They apply their own brand of medicine to clean and mend wounds, ward off sickness and splint broken bones. This could be anything from a herbal poultice to sucking out the venom from scorpion stings. In recent generations the conjurers have been sought out and their teachings and magical aptitude have been adapted into the shamans knowledge of desert readies.

Another role is vital to the safety of the tribe members before engaging on a hunt is to speak the spirits of earth and wind. If the shamans placate the spirits with offerings then the tribe will be safe from sandstorms and other such desert dangers. They also speak to the water spirits to help the tribe in times of drought.

The tribes shamans are also the keepers of the tribes history and traditions. These have been passed down, shaman to shaman since before the great migration. The shaman are the ones who see to it that the young of the tribe understand their past.

There may only be two active Nunh at any given time. Ideally, each Nunh would have at least ten females.

Leaving the tribe is considered a severe offense resulting in shunning, this is different from the Foraging that adolescents are required to do in their rite of adulthood.

All heterosexual sex outside the tribe is forbidden. Homosexual sex outside the tribe is technically allowed, but looked down upon quite severely and not discussed. Homosexuality within the tribe is allowed, but heterosexual sex is strictly only between a female and her chosen Nunh. A female can change which Nunh she wants to mate with but its forbidden for her to be mate with both. If a Nunh is found to be lacking in his attentiveness to his females due to homosexuality he will start to lose the support of his females. Tribe members are allowed to consent to sex at the age of sixteen.

Violence against fellow tribe members is forbidden, unless for the purpose of training or ritual combat to settle mating rites or disputes.

Ritual combat to settle disputes is generally to first blood and can be between any two recognized adults of the tribe be they male or female.

'''Challenging a Nunh'''

Following traditional tribal Miqo'te culture, only particular males in a tribe, called Nunhs, are allowed to pass on their genes. The other males of the tribe are Tias. It's important to note that the distinction between Tia and Nunh is not one of greater or lesser rank; they simply have different duties the the tribal family. Many Tias, however, may wish to become a Nunh to continue their own lineage. To do this, they must either found new territory for the tribe, or they may challenge one of the current Nunhs.

In order to challenge a Nunh, the Tia must both have the support of at least one female from the tribe (representing his ability to successfully carry out his duties), as well as provide the tribe with a feast. During this feast, the challenging Tia and the Nunh engage in ritual combat before the tribe that, while brutal, should not end in the death of either. There is a certain amount of personal shame in losing, but the act of challenging a Nunh is part of the way of life for Tias, not a behavior looked down upon as an act of defiance. Rituals such as this also serve to reinforce a Nunh's personal strength and vigor, showing him as suitable to the position of furthering the tribes lineage. A Nunh having been beaten well become a Tia and join the rest of the tribe once more. Nothing prevents a Nunh from attempting to regain his title and breeding rights.

A Tia may only attempt to challenge a Nunh once a moon, this is to prevent the Tia's of a tribe from disrupting the Nunh's duties. In times of war a Nunh's position may not be challenged as there are other more vital matters to attend to, because of this a breeding Nunh is not able to declare or sustain a war to prevent himself from being challenged.

===Hunting Techniques===

The Hipparion also make use of the giant worms that live in the Sagolii desert. Their larger teeth are used for spear heads, and those of a smaller size become arrowheads or are carved in decorative ways. The skin of the worm is light but tough, and and has been used to make tents and clothes, while the armored scaled plates are made into protective armour and bowls. The flesh they carve up and provides them with a major source of sustenance. The blood is also utilised by emptying large guts and filling them with the blood. They then carry this around their neck to drink when they are thirsty

The light spear favored by the Hipparion has allowed them to take down vultures and other large birds mid flight; taking careful aim, a practiced huntress can drop a bird from a fair distance. The feathers are highly prized for decorative purposes.

Although the spear is the chosen weapon for a large number in the tribe, a few favor the large two handed axe - similar in design to those found in Limsa Lominsa. These miqo'te rush in and hack away at the flesh of their prey, while the rest of the tribe keeps their target busy with their spears. The axe is able to break into the toughest worm plating revealing the bright flesh underneath.

A small number of Hipparion who have journeyed from the tribe have picked up the skills of archery. Although not common among the tribe, its uses are quickly being adapted into their hunting style.

==History==

The Hipparion are a tribe of Sunseeker miqo'te who have dwelled within the Sagolii Desert since the migration across the frozen seas into Eorzea.

===Before the Great Migration===

Before the great migration south into Eorzea, the tribe made extensive use of their namesake: the hipparion, a majestic striped horse-like creature with horns. They followed the migration patterns of these creatures, and eventually took to herding them, riding them, and using them for food. Their most popular use was to ride hipparions in small groups while hunting, skillfully utilizing their added speed and mobility to hunt large prey.

The Hipparion was a chief source of food, and items such as cups, decorations, crafting tools, knives and clothing made from the animals flesh, hide and bones.
The tribe would follow the seasonal grazing and migration of the animals

The tribe lived in tents made of tanned skins of the hipparion. They dry the flesh in the sun, cutting it thin like a leaf and when dry, grind it like a meal to keep it, and make a sort of sea soup of it to eat. It would be seasoned with fat which they always try to secure when they kill a hipparion.

===Into Eorzea===

After countless generations of using the hipparion in their daily life, the tribe was unable to keep them alive during their great journey south and across the ice into Eorzea, and the tribe was forced to adapt. In it's place, they began to utilize the chocobo, a giant native bird of Eorzea. They quickly broke a number of wild flocks, and the Hipparion tribe has has been riding them ever since.

K'airos spends most of her day suited in the Brass Blade uniform: a suit of red chainmail armor, though she sometimes drops it in favor of a lighter bronze plate with bulgy clothes underneath.
When off-duty, she favors sleeveless shirts of light colors, trousers and sandals. Sometimes, she's so annoyed at the boots of her uniform she will simply remain bare-footed for the rest of the day, as long as she doesn't have to walk in Thalanan's sands.

K'airos used to act like a jester. It's hard to say if it was a concious effort on her part or if it's something engrained deeply in her mind. She was determined to have fun at all times and in all situations. The only times she could be seen unhappy were after arguments with her mother or sisters.

When D'aijeen found her and told her about the deaths of the other family members, K'airos took upon herself the responsability of becoming the role model and protector of her younger sister. She's still a happy person at heart, and she does everything she can to show herself as such to D'aijeen, but her demanor has thougened, becoming more strict and less propense to random outbursts of laughter and jokes.

She's prone to losing herself in thought, ussually when handsome men are around. If approached by them during these moments, she will blush and act awkwardly, ussually running away with a blushed face and a shouted apology.

K'airos was never a very religious adherent when she lived in the desert. However, after the Calamity, she has grown much more attached to Azeyma, the deity the tribe worshipped. Her devotion is on the edge of zealotry, though she is ussually nice (or distracted) enough to not be confrontational about it.

K'airos was born in the Hipparion tribe found in the Sagolii Desert, as the middle child of K'piru Jhanji and Thalen Nunh. From a young age, K'airos demostrated a talent for quick learning, particularly of physical skills. While the tribe's huntresses capitalized on this ease to teach her how to use a spear and become a huntress herself, her mother tried to instill the knowledge of numbers and geometry. Unlike her younger sister K'aijeen, K'airos reluctantly accepted her mother's teachings, not because of interest or hunger for knowledge, but to please her. This was not enough to make her remember the lessons more often and clearly, though.

She still learnt the way of the huntress and, during her 19th birthday, she and whomever the tribe could spare left to join the war effort against the garlean menace. Others followed some time after, between them her father. However, the Grand Companies assigned them to different military fronts, though both were in the Foreign Brigades.
A year later, she would be sent to join the battle at Cartenau.

K'airos was found unconscious by her sister K'aijeen, now named D'aijeen, at some point after the Calamity. When she woke up, her sister told her the rest of the tribe had been killed by the Calamity. Unsure on what to do, K'airos decided to go to Ul'dah in a rash decision, bringing D'aijeen with her.
Her service in the Foreign Brigades allowed her to leap and join the Brass Blades, who she currently serves. She is moved a lot across Thanalan, and the pay isn't spectacular. For this reason, the sisters haven't been able to get a permanent residence, instead renting rooms or small properties wherever K'airos is stationed at. She seldomly takes on mercenary work outside the Blades to increase their funds, and other times she allows small criminals to pay a fee to her in exchange of not being reported or incarcelated. All in the name of saving to buy a house of their own, somewhere. Anywhere.

Her clothes change constantly, but she's ussually wearing a heavy robe or a linen coat. She always wears a belt with a round bottle tied to it, which she tries to keep filled with whatever alcoholic breverage she can find.

When in pressence of others, Thiereia shows herself as mean, crude and proud. If approached, she is untrustful and mocking.
Her clan's history has taught her that constant conflict will only lead to getting killed. While she can get quite personal in her insults, she avoids getting into fights she can't win or that would get her in serious trouble with the authorities.
She's constantly drinking: the times when she's sober are very few and far apart. Her lack of funds has forced her to space her drinking apart and make it last, which means she's not as drunk as she would like.

While Thiereia has been trained by her clan in the ways of assasination and hand to hand combat, she has never excelled at it. In fact, she's quite clumsy in a very predictable way: not a good fighter, overall.
However, this changes drastically when drunk. Depending on how many cups she has had, her combat expertise (or, rather, her combat ''instinct'') increases to the point she becomes a dangerous opponent thanks to the unpredictability and awkward fluidity of her movements. The fact she will keep attempting to drink while fighting when in this state only adds to the confusion: opponents expect her to be out of balance and coordination at those moments, but always find her prepared instead.
If she's intoxicated enough, however, she becomes a wimp again.

When asked about his past, Ildur looks over his playing cards and frowns with a slight smile. “You are just trying to make me lose concentration, aren't you?”

Ildur was born in a family with deep military traditions, in the city of Ishgard. Her mother spent a small fortune, at least for what they had, to educate him properly. He showed a distinct interest in geography and, oddly enough, calligraphy and redaction. His education was cut short, however, when he was conscripted into the army. He became a proficient soldier and lancer, but never excelled at it. He was exempt from his service at his early twenties after receiving a wound that hindered his usefulness as a soldier, at least according to the Ishgardian standards.

Unable to follow his family's tradition anymore, he at first became a bodyguard, assuring the safety of various merchants during their travels. It was one of this jobs that brought him to Ala Mhigo, wheret he'd met who would become his wife a few years later: a merchant named Isha. She convinced him to leave the quasi-military carrier as a bodyguard to join her in her business.
It did not last, however, as Ildur's proficiency in all economical and financial matters was nill. Instead, he used what knowledge he had received prior to his conscription to become a cartographer. In practice, this meant he became an unpaid adventurer with a thing for maps.
He did learn, though, and managed to get a steady job as a map-maker for a small merchant company.

He and Isha married and had a daughter after the first year: Onoma. Her education was, as Ildur likes to say, 'most confusing for her'. On one hand, Ildur promoted his family's military traditions while, on the other, Isha wished for her a life that had very small chances of her dying.
Ildur taught her some notions of strategy and tactics, and to defend herself with a variety of weapons. His wife did not aprove but, luckily for her, Onoma didn't have the disposition to become a military woman. She did take a liking for sparring, much to her mother's dismay. Yet she never showed any vocation.

Both his daughter and wife died during a beastmen raid when travelling to visit some of Isha's family in Ul'dah. The beastmen were swiftly defeated, but not fast enough to save them. Ildur avoids the subject.

He went back to Ala Mhigo and continued his work for the merchant company until the city was conquered by the Garlean Empire. When that happened, he fled and became a refugee for a short time before setting in Limsa Lominsa, where his cartographer expertise was more useful for the many ship captains that it ever was for his company.

The fate of his family took a toll on Ildur, making him quite a pragmatic and thoughtful man. He is still quite idealistic, however, and sometimes he can even be rash and reckless.
He prefers not to speak of his family, barely mentioning them at all and, when asked, his answers will be short and to the point. He cannot tolerate the pressence of any of the beastmen races. Though, as a citizen of Limsa Lominsa, he has learnt to avoid open conflict with them.

He dislikes confrontation, but, as a pragmatist, he will charge head first into it if he sees no better alternative.

Ildur was born in a family with deep military traditions, in the city of Ishgard. Her mother spent a small fortune, at least for what they had, to educate him properly. He showed a distinct interest in geography and, oddly enough, calligraphy and redaction. His education was cut short, however, when he was conscripted into the army. He became a proficient soldier and lancer, but never excelled at it. He was exempt from his service at his early twenties after receiving a wound that hindered his usefulness as a soldier, at least according to the Ishgardian standards.

Unable to follow his family's tradition anymore, he at first became a bodyguard, assuring the safety of various merchants during their travels. It was one of this jobs that brought him to Ala Mhigo, wheret he'd met who would become his wife a few years later: a merchant named Isha. She convinced him to leave the quasi-military carrier as a bodyguard to join her in her business.
It did not last, however, as Ildur's proficiency in all economical and financial matters was nill. Instead, he used what knowledge he had received prior to his conscription to become a cartographer. In practice, this meant he became an unpaid adventurer with a thing for maps.
He did learn, though, and managed to get a steady job as a map-maker for a small merchant company.

He and Isha married and had a daughter after the first year: Onoma. Her education was, as Ildur likes to say, 'most confusing for her'. On one hand, Ildur promoted his family's military traditions while, on the other, Isha wished for her a life that had very small chances of her dying.
Ildur taught her some notions of strategy and tactics, and to defend herself with a variety of weapons. His wife did not aprove but, luckily for her, Onoma didn't have the disposition to become a military woman. She did take a liking for sparring, much to her mother's dismay. Yet she never showed any vocation.

Both his daughter and wife died during a beastmen raid when travelling to visit some of Isha's family in Ul'dah. The beastmen were swiftly defeated, but not fast enough to save them. Ildur avoids the subject.

He went back to Ala Mhigo and continued his work for the merchant company until the city was conquered by the Garlean Empire. When that happened, he fled and became a refugee for a short time before setting in Limsa Lominsa, where his cartographer expertise was more useful for the many ship captains that it ever was for his company.

===Personality===

The fate of his family took a toll on Ildur, making him quite a pragmatic and thoughtful man. He is still quite idealistic, however, and sometimes he can even be rash and reckless.
He prefers not to speak of his family, barely mentioning them at all and, when asked, his answers will be short and to the point. He cannot tolerate the pressence of any of the beastmen races. Though, as a citizen of Limsa Lominsa, he has learnt to avoid open conflict with them.

He dislikes confrontation, but, as a pragmatist, he will charge head first into it if he sees no better alternative.

Ulanan is the youngest daugher of a marriage of Ul'dan merchants, Zanaromos Moromos and Lianan Lian. They sought to increase their wealth and social status, and they accomplished so by arranging convenience marriages between their children and those of other better accomodated families. Ulanan was homeschooled to become a lady and an excellent wife almost exclusively, with her mother taking care of most of her education. She learnt to deal with servants, to keep the house's accounts, how to act properly in public and in private. Her sister, Laonon, taught her poetry, music and dancing. She never finished those studies, however, as her sister was married to a wealthy officer, who was later sent to the war effort against the Garleans.

She spent most of her youth among Ul'dah's wealthy, trying to impress a young man so she could marry him. Her education made her sure that a steady marriage with a wealthy man was not only a duty, but also the way to happyness. Her father Zanaromos contributed the most to such ideas, and he used them to his advantage. He married all of his children quickly because of this. His goal was to secure his family's future, and to enjoy some of the wealth gathered from those convinient marriages.

And so, a marriage was agreed between Ulanan and a charismatic man with many criminal connections: Kekenori Ememori. He was most friendly and helpful to all in his immediate social circle. Most saw him as a moral standard, unknowing of his shady deals with the criminal underground world, including Ulanan. Since she was a child, Ulanan became obsessed with the wedding. Most of her free-time was used on planing it, day dreaming the perfect ceremony and all the preparations. When her real wedding was inminent, she immediately planned it throughly and perfectly. Her obsession and planning was so great, that even the guests felt uncomfortable with the many specifications she placed upon them. Her future husband had to step in and simplify much of it until Ulanan was not satisfied with it anymore. Even then, though, she found comfort in that they would have a fine family and so they married.

The marriage lasted only two years. He quickly grow unintereted in her and blatantly cheated on her, first with other ladies of society and then with hired, semi-permanent concubines. The gossip of high society implied his cheating was due to Ulanan not being a good enough wife and that she couldn't have or did not want children. Soon enough, Kekenori was basically confirming it at every opportunity and social event. To Ulanan, this felt like bragging.

The marriage was cut short with his murder. He was found hanging from a hook across his throat. Immediately, all accusations fell on Ulanan, who in turn fell into a mental breakdown. Her father stepped in, claiming the criminal connections of her husband were trying to frame her, and spent great sums of gil to clear her name, paying private investigators and, some say, 'encouraging' some of the officers to hasten the investigation.

At the end of it, it was determined that one of the concubines was an assasin, who had been contracted by an unknown client to kill him. The concubine never talked and was executed, leaving the matter unfinished but, Ulanan hoped, her name cleared. It did not, however. Her circle of acquitances, while not directly saying she was the killer, did imply that she was to blame. That she had driven her husband to be lustful, and that his enemies had used that to their advantage.

Ulanan left Ul'dah shortly after her name was cleared, leaving much of her wealth behind and, some say, her sanity.

It is known she learned thaumaturgy and some conjuring after fleeing Ul'dah, from a wandering member of the Ossuary, who was also a follower of Oschon. Besides the magical arts, he also taught her to revere Oschon as her guardian deity. They travelled together for at least a year before parting ways.
