Lothaire Valtan is a Wildwood Elezen who works for XI:7 heading up their security division. Born in Gridania he has spent the past twelve years in Ul'dah studying thaumaturgy and alchemy, and moving more recently to Limsa Lominsa where he currently works for XI:7.

===Physical Description===

Lothaire is of short-average height for an Elezen though generally he still stands a good few ilms taller than your average midlander. Appearance is as seen below. He has a number of scars, mostly to his torso and upper arms and has few other distinguishing features save the curved black tattoo on the left side of his face.

===Family===

Lothaire’s family reside mostly in Gridania where they settled after the Calamity. His elder sister Nymiene Valtin runs her own business which his mother, Marcette Valtin, assists with. Lothaire’s father and two brothers perished in the disaster.

===Aquaintances===

Yvaine Winters: A midlander woman who runs an alchemy business in the city of Limsa Lominsa; on the side she also studies and experiments with small magi-tek devices. Lothaire visits her fairly often though their association traces much further back than the city-state. There is no romantic involvement between the two; Lothaire has a deep interest in both alchemy and magi-tek devices his connection to her is more that of friend and student.

===Personality===

Lothaire is generally a reserved, quiet individual who keeps his thoughts to himself. Though he can sometimes be seen frequenting taverns and other establishments he tends to prefer his own company and that of a few close friends over rowdy gatherings of strangers.

The Elezen has a cautious, watchful nature; something he has always had to some extent but which became more pronounced during his time in Ul'dah. He tends to pay close attention to small details, a habit developed in recent years; much of which he has spent working as a security escort for trading caravans and individuals.

Lothaire is an almost obsessive collector of books and scrolls, mostly pertaining to the areas of thaumaturgy, Alchemy and Magi-tek development; the result of a deep fascination with such subjects and a continuation of more formal training in the areas of alchemy and thaumaturgy.

He has no head for saving money, often spending it as fast as he can earn it. As he has something of an obsession when it comes to collecting books and scrolls a large percentage of the Gil he earns ends up being spent on such things. In the past two years alone he has managed to gather a small library worth of texts and buying books to add to his collection is an almost compulsive habit.

===History===

Lothaire was born and raised in the city of Gridania but seven years prior to the Calamity he left the city alone and relocated to Ul'dah. There is no indication that his departure was spurred on by anything more than a desire to study thaumaturgy there but what prompted this initial interest in the subject is unknown.

He spent approximately nine years in the desert city and he never made a return trip to his home city until the Calamity. After the disaster he made one brief visit to Gridania before returning to Ul'dah a few months later. Frequent correspondences between he and his family however suggest that his decision not to return home more frequently had less to do with any friction between family members and more to do with a rather single-minded fixation on his studies.

At some point during his nine years in Ul'dah he made the acquaintance of Yvaine Winters; an alchemist who ran a small shop in the city. From her he developed an interest in alchemy. She herself left the city sometime after the Calamity and relocated her business to Limsa Lominsa and Lothaire has been observed in her company fairly often since arriving in the city himself.

After leaving Ul'dah three years ago Lothaire spent some time travelling; falling back on his thaumaturge training in order to take jobs providing security and escorts for small merchant caravans and individuals. Two years ago he arrived in the port city of Limsa Lominsa and has remained there ever since, working security for a small Magi-tek Research and Development company which was later absorbed by the growing XI:7.

===Combat Training and Experience===

Lothaire was raised in a community where the use of both bow and spear were quite common and as a child he would have been exposed to the use of both. However, he pursued study in neither of these areas, and at the age of approximately fifteen he arrived in the city-state of Ul'dah where he enrolled in the study of thaumaturgy.

Aside from a brief interruption brought about by the advent of the Calamity he remained in the city of Ul'dah for a period of roughly nine years. Three years ago he left the city abruptly, eventually turning up again in Limsa Lominsa approximately a year later. Since then, though all formal training appears to have ceased, he has managed to gather quite a collection of texts on the subject suggesting that his research into the area is on-going.

===Crafting/Trade Skills and Experience===

Lothaire has a strong interest in alchemy; something which caught his attention seven years ago when he was living in the city of Ul’dah. This is where he met Yvaine Winters, who relocated her alchemy business to the city of Limsa Lominsa several years after the Calamity. The midlander woman experiments with and studies magi-tek devices alongside her primary alchemy business, and Lothaire's frequent visits to her establishment in Limsa Lominsa are largely motivated by an on-going interest in both subjects.
