===Appearance===

Perhaps his most notable feature, he stands tall with ruddy-colored hair, usually kept styled in Ala Mhigan-styled braids. Roughly the same height as many other Highlanders, he stands out from their usually tanned skin. His notably Garlean third eye is normally kept hidden from sight with a glamour, to avoid confrontation.

While he takes pride in his tall, well-built appearance, it is only due to the large amount of he spends on maintaining his image. He spends every morning and evening without fail to fit in a small workout, lest he fall into a slump and begin binge-eating and drinking. He has a tendency to snack, and without the effort expended, would surely put on extra weight. Despite all time he places into looking strong and intimidating, working out to build muscle, and having nice clothes, he does not like showing off his efforts. He would rather keep his shirt and pants on than to take them off and show his body.

Most of the time, he can be seen in either casual clothing such as an open shift with shorts, various shirts with pants or light armor, or suits. There have been times he's worn heavier armor, but he values mobility above protection.

If reading, he may don glasses to read smaller text.

===Bio===

A Garlean through and though, he knows he was born and raised in Garlemald, but is unable ot remember much of his childhood and later live. The memories of battle have been etched into his mind, unable to be forgotten. He is very aware he previously fought for the Garlean Empire, and does not necessarily feel wrong in doing so. Why wouldn't he be loyal to one's own home? After sustaining an injury that prevented him from being active in the military, he assumed he went back to living a quieter life in the country, with his wife and daughter who are of utmost importance to him.

He doesn't remember much about his past, but at some point, he found himself in the desert, with no knowledge of who he was, left to die. Managing to survive, he established a life as a mercenary around Ul'dah, and mainly survived off of jobs deemed unfit for the levemete. There was a period of time after where he appeared to have settled down and lived a more normal life. After some events that happened in Ul'dah, he left the city and joined The Coral Sea, based in Limsa Lominsa's Mist. He had taken residence there for a while, coming to enjoy the more laid-back culture, assisting them with their jobs. More recent issues have caused a distance, and the man has returned to Ul'dah once again to resume mercenary work. He sees himself as unfit for social contact with many those he may hold dear.

Despite being Garlean and having no formal knowledge or training with magic, he has found himself in a situation where he is able to use it, only knowing it is somehow linked to his past.

===Behavior===

Generally quieter in current days, he has become more anitsocial than before. He is known to have had anger issues in the past, and actively makes the effort to be calmer around people he is family with. He found it simply easier to not speak his mind as often.

Often, he will attend public events, but will not socialize with others, instead, taking more time to reflect on his past and other thoughts.

When he thinks he has an advantange compared to others, he usually becomes more talkative and a streak of pride and arrogance may come out, being it physical strength or knowledge. He is aware of how to conduct himself in public, but finds it a hassle.

Her generally cheerful attitude and abundance of politeness can make him feel uneasy at times, as if he needs to be the person she thinks he is. He won't tell anyone this, but he kept the drawing the children made in his desk. Hearing Jancis talk about a bunch of children brought up painful memories of his own negligence as a husband and father, which caused him to get a mixed reaction of feelings. Since joining Coral Sea, he's spent more time with her, and she's learned more of his secrets. He worries her curiosity about him may get her harmed unintentionally, which has been a point of worry. In recent meetings, she's been more distant, likely due to the way he has spoken to her. He would like to make things up to her, but isn't sure how.

| Franz had the ever-so-happy experience of meeting Lho'a while he was not only intoxicated, but having an overall painful experience with life in general. The aether-sensitive miqo'te jumped on the opportunity and had caused some initial concern. At times, the miqo'te seems to follow Franz around, nearly begging for attention.

| The first person to put up a fight against Unnamed Mercenary and survive. Unnamed Mercenary had taken an odd liking to Kage. While he previously enjoyed attacking him as a Lalafell, the mercenary has had conflicting feelings after pretty much helping to ruin Kage's life. He currently wants to improve the relationship, which has been a source of internal conflict. He had taken residence in Kage's house, which had been interesting to say the least. He's seen Kage go through multiple hardships, some of which were his own fault. He often held Kage to higher standards and would become disappointed when the man couldn't live up to them. While dealing with his own feelings, he's since moved out of the home that Kage has since abandoned. There was a period of time where they did not encounter each other, but recently, he's been seeing Kage around and they've remained civil, almost pleasant, experiences. Franz is unsure what exactly is going through the Lalafell's mind.

The Unnamed Mercenary enjoyed their conversations, enough to feel a little sad to have watched the man die. He learned that [[Atrium Crow|Atrium]]'s soul was composed partly by Jin'li. This had led to some interesting conversation about what makes up a person. But Atrium is dead, and the souls split. Franz received an off letter from a Mr. Oul, later finding out it was Jin'li, having somehow reacquired his body from the depths of the hells. When Franz refused his offer to join his cause, he was stabbed and shot repeatedly until the "chains of life" as Jin'li put it, released his soul. Through sheer force of will (and nearly all the aether he had), Franz managed to reconstruct a body through unknown measures. He vows to return the favor.

When Lynx disappeared, Franz had simply though the wandering man to have moved onto a new place to live. He was pleasantly surprised to find that Lynx was well, although his glamour had been dispelled. He later learned that the man's true name was Iex, which he has made an effort to switch to using. Despite being from Othard and knowing Franz is Garlean, Iex seems to hold no grudge towards Franz, which has made the Garlean rather happy.

When she learned that he was Garlean, it completely shattered their relationship. While he regrets how she feels, he doesn't regret his reasons for revealing it to her. The events that had followed had been rather strained for a while, but he believes they've since figured things out. He still holds onto the family ring she threw at him, treating it like a prized possession.

He is unsure which of her words can be trusted, but at the same time, would dare not think of going against them for fear of her connections.

What had been two different people's perspectives have become one, and while there may not be conflict, sorting through what he thinks of Roen is complicated. On one side, she is the closest thing to Garlemald he has, even if she would never return. On the other side, he wants nothing more than to be someone she could trust, and to form a friendship. When he finally did approach her, their initial meeting was quite complicated. He wants to prove to her than Frhanz's death wasn't in vain.

With a strong moral sense, and desire to help out those she cares for, he thinks she'd do well as a group leader, but her stubbornness is seen as a problem. While he knows she doesn't intend to come off harsh, her blunt remarks can at times irk him, and more importantly, some of those around him. He believes she lacks the life experience to think within someone else's perspective, which would explain why she gets frustrated when people don't see things her way. When she and Iron had been having a series of disagreements and arguments, he was in the middle of them. Now that that has settled down, he thinks she needs to reevaluate her own boundaries, and how they interact with others.

Her choice to value actions over intent or nationality has given him a new perspective on life, and he took her words to heart. Much like her, he knows there are things can't atone for, and that the choices he's made in life will one day catch up to him. Despite only knowing her a short while, he greatly values the relationship.

He fails to see how she could strive to want to end her very life, stop caring about everything, and yet, still try to cling on, putting up a front. In a conversation they had, he learned they basically seek what the other has. She wishes to leave her past behind, while he would take anyone to get his back. They both can enjoy the quiet solitude of finding a good book. Franz would like her to rely on the people who care for her more, himself included.

After encountering an attack on his life, Franz has recently left the Coral Sea for what he believes if "for their safety". He's been keeping to himself mostly between a small cottage in the Black Shroud he "inherited" and a long-term-stay inn room in Ul'dah. He's found himself unable to go near Limsa Lominsa as a city.

Recent events have left him in a state of constant soreness. While he'll try to downplay it as much as possible, he is rather sensitive to touch and will react accordingly. While he previously looked tired and unrested, he has been sleeping better in recent days. He is aware he needs to do something about the extra weight he is adding on, as he has self-image issues with being labeled as "chubby".

He has gotten into a number of arguments with [Edda Eglantine|Edda] and [Jancis Milburga|Jancis] that he knows he needs to corect, but cannot find the words. He has also met [nowhere|a certain annoying miqo'te] who seems to enjoy stealing aether. He's unsure of his thoughts on that.

Unnamed Mercenary was hired while Askier's sister was kidnaped. It was during a skirmish in the Ceruleum Processing Plant that he first engaged in battle with Kage. While he didn't have any aether-related issues, he did have to run after the other hired hands were killed off. Angry at the price he was hired for, and the loss, he has vowed to return the favor to those against him.

===Killing the Connections===
After his near escape from the Cerulean Processing Plant, the Unnamed Mercenary has been staying around Ul'Dah causing problems for [[Kage Kiryuu]]. He learned that the Lalafellin Sultansworn was there after an encounter with a women he'd hoped to never see again, [[Raelisanne Banurein]]. While he couldn't remember who she was, she was one of the last people he remembers before his attempted execution from the Garlean lab. While she said she had nothing to do with the attempt on his life, he couldn't find himself to trust a single word from her mouth. Nevertheless, she did seem to give him what he wanted on their first meeting, which led him to believe she may have something planned. She had also told him to never attempt using aether for transportation ever again, after learning of his escape. The Unnamed Mercenary has made it a habit to cause Kage trouble during his patrols, usually resulting in heavy injury.

===Going About it the Wrong Way===
With Kage's identity and basic patrol routes confirmed, the Unnamed Mercenary has been toying with him a lot. On one particularly bad occasion, he started a fight with Kage in the Quicksand, which quickly escalated. Due to the large amount of people watching, he attempted to open an aetherial gate against his better judgement, fueled by the adrenaline rush. His attempt did somewhat work out, as he pulled himself and Kage through the gate, and ended up just south of Camp Drybone. Sickeningly enjoying the battle, Merc had a surprisingly long burst of self-control and channeled the aether he stole into a protective layer, healing any wounds he suffered nearly immediately. When Kage resorted to using magic, Merc was consciously able to shift from aether-release to aether-store, absorbing the spell and it's aether. Unknown to him, that cut off his shield and Kage used that moment to deliver a final blow, giving Merc a large slash on his back. After watching the sultansworn nearly collapse, Merc attempted to leave the battle via teleportation, against Rae's orders again. This time, due to his lack of concentration and no idea of a destination, he became stuck in the aether. Perhaps in his favor, Rae happened to be in the area and used the Drybone Aetherite to release him. He was of course, scolded for the act and told if it ever happened again, he'd be left to his own devices to get out, or to simply suffer for the rest of his existence. He was briefed on some work and told not to do anything aetherite-related. After their meeting, Merc did what he could about his injury.

Like most other days, the Unnamed Mercenary would find something to ruin Kage's. He'd noticed the Lalafell no longer wore his paladin gear, and had switched to something else. Probably demoted. While his route had changed, Merc knew Kage would eventually have to come in the Quicksand, and used the opportunity to bother him again. Bored at Kage's lack of reactions, Merc left and later ran into Rae. Seeing how he'd "been behaving himself", she decided to do something for him. Later that day, Merc kidnapped Kage by the Aetherite Plaza and brought him Crescent Cove. It was there that Kage became a Miqo'te. Some time later, Merc was in the Quicksand, rather bored with the day when a Miqo'te crashed into his table, apparently from jumping to hard to get onto a rail. At some point, it occurred to Merc that the clumsy Miqo'te was Kage. Perhaps it was the hair, manner of speaking, or the look in his eyes. Merc couldn't help but laugh as Kage left, knowing he'd have to confront him again.

His day had started like any other. Wasted in the Quicksand drinking. At some point, a very chatty Miqo'te woman sat at the same table he was at. He recognized she was some type of Ul'Dahn law enforcement, but didn't really care. Things could've proceeded pecefully had she not tried to provoke him, which ended with a bar fight. He had tried to keep himself collected, but every time she called him "porkchop" and every additional question pushed him over the edge. It was like she wanted to rile him up and get something out of it. So he let her. It wasn't long before a Sultansworn in the area came in and tried to break it up, to some avail. Had he gotten his way, the Unnamed Mercenary would have succeeded in grabbing her sword and used it to knock out the person who had aggravated him so. When that failed, and the Sultansworn plowed into him, he lost the will to continue fighting and left. Merc decided that if he saw the two ever again, which was likely, he'd try to keep himself away. It wasn't in someone's plans to have him getting noticed.

The UnnameD Mercenary found himself walking through Pearl Lane checking the bulletins for some work, which never really seemed to have any. As he let out his frustration with a good yell, Kage ran into him. Much to the man's surprise, Kage hit first. There was some fighting, but the mercenary hadn't been taking it very seriously, laughing at Kage's attempts and eventually not bothering to attack back after he'd gotten a couple hits in. Instead, he went for psychological attacks, continuously pestering Kage. He wanted a reaction, and he certainly got one: a miserable Kage who was still fighting to cling on to that which he believed in, at least, that's why he took to believe. Somewhere along the way, one of Kage's hits also happened to knock off his mask. The mercenary hadn't even noticed at first. As he continued to watch Kage's suffering. The Unnamed Mercenary made it very clear that Kage's transformation was on his part, although he concealed exactly what his role in all of it was. It was apparent that the Unnamed Mercenary hadn't given any of his recent actions any thought about their consequences on the other person. But that was expected. Why should he? Kage's reactions were entertaining at the least. Probably somewhere, there was a little bit of a guilty feeling, but the Unnamed Mercenary wouldn't notice that. Some more talking happened, and eventually the mercenary passed out from the encounter, the image of something from his past. He would have to figure that out whenever and wherever he awoke. He wouldn't know immediately that Kage had brought him to an inn room.

"You have interesting aether," and kneels down before the workstation again, the silver ingot placed meticulously at its center and closes his sightless eyes and he draws in a deep breath. Gelfradus Greywolfe frowns again, the silver giving off a strange blue-black aura before it goes still. He hesitates, his brow furrowing before he holds the metal out for Franz to receive.

Once a Sultansworn and now a Free Paladin, Roen Deneith is a woman driven by her ideals. Her staunch adherence to her principles make her seem rigid at times, others have called her naive or foolish. As she tries to do what is best for those around her, she struggles with staying on the righteous path especially when the world seems to want to prove to her that virtue has no place in it.

===General Appearance===

Roen is a young woman in her 20's. While she used to call Thanalan her home, she is now rarely seen there unless hidden under a heavy cowl or behind a Brass Blades mask. Away from Ul'dah, she is often seen wearing armor if she is out of the city or a lighter fare of cottons and leathers within the city. She seldom travels without her sword, but when she does, she usually will have a pair of fist-cuffs handy. When she is expecting a battle, she prefers medium or heavy armor and dons a shield as well, befitting her paladin training.

She is of slight frame, but her lean muscles and calloused hands show evidence of training. Her fiery red locks and pale grey eyes often makes her easily recognizable to those given her description. The woman does not seem to possess anything of notable wealth, but keeps her armor and weapons in good condition. But despite her usual humble disposition, Roen's carriage tends to indicate that she's had a well-born upbringing.

Due to recent troubles, she is now rarely seen in public and does not make herself known except to those she implicitly trusts. But a paladin at heart, she still will not hesitate in coming to aid someone who is in need.

=Behavior=

She's mostly quiet. Roen often holds her tongue on matters she considers not important. But she is quick to come to the defense of the weak and does not hesitate to stand up to bullies, even when she is sorely outmatched or outnumbered. She is not quick to anger, but sometimes eager to commit herself to causes she believes are right. Emotions show easily upon her face, and she is a horrible liar. She tries her best not to do it often, if at all.

Roen does not speak of herself too often, but is forthright with her answers when asked. She also does not make small talk well; she is seen as quite serious by most, and some might even accuse her of lacking any sense of humor whatsoever. The truth of her guarded demeanor is more complex, of course, but few understand that. She smiles rarely... but when she does it is always genuine. She does not refuse to give aid if asked for, but where once she used to readily take people at their word, now she seems to make a conscious effort to be wary of those she comes across.

Roen has an inquisitive mind and is quick to learn, and any teaching of craft, skills, or lore offered to her will rarely be refused. Despite her competence with sword and shield, she is still very green when it comes to the general knowledge of the Eorzea overall. It seems what she knows of Eorzea was learned in the last few years.

Roen prefers sword and shield above all else. She began her training with swords early in her childhood since she preferred it over the more docile studies, much to her mother's chagrin. Once arriving in Eorzea, she sought out paladin training under a few Sultansworns and Free Paladins. She excels in defensive fighting, always preferring to protect others before going on the offensive. While she takes to training with fervor and her technical skills leave very little to be desired, she still lacks in experience to put them to use with full effect. She often hesitates in striking down a weaker foe, especially if they show fear or remorse. If they ask for mercy, she will often grant it, even if it may be just a ploy.

While undergoing her training with the conjurer's guild, it was noted that she has great aptitude as a healer as well as a strong connection with the aether, both within and without. But Roen left their guidance after learning the rudimentary skills needed to continue her paladin training. She has since returned to Steelglen Fane to revisit her training as a healer, at the urging of her former teachers.

Recently, Roen has also been training in hand-to-hand combat, especially after learning the most painful way, how vulnerable she was without her weapons. She trains against a wooden training dummy every morning to acclimate herself to such impact against her bare hands.

The table then turned on the siblings when Roen was kidnapped and tormented by a Roe named Crimson Mountain, and after being rescued, Gharen helped her recover from the ordeal. The two siblings came to stand on opposite sides when Gharen chose to oppose Nero despite Roen's plea. The last Roen heard of her brother, he was considering a new path far away, but buried under her own distress, Roen has not sought him out to amend the rift between them.

She arranged for him to be employed under [[Jameson Taeros]], to serve as a new pair of eyes within the Monetarist society, but later discovered that [[Nero Lazarov]] was one of the people that were responsible for the death of Gideon's former masters. Throughout the entire ordeal of her trials in Ul'dah, she had come to rely much on Gideon's counsel and support, and now feels that she still owes him much for his unconditional alliance and aid.

In her captivity, she discovered that Crim has a violent temper and a dark and cruel side to him. He was killed after she was rescued.

The two have further bonded after a girls-only fishing trip since on their way to Gharen's camp.

Despite the war he was waging against Nero Lazarov, Roen left Taeros alive even after having held him at blade point, only to discover that Osric Melkire had lured him out into a trap to try and kill him suns later.

=History=

===Early History===

Roen is the sole daughter of a high ranking Garlean scientist officer. Her father, Dorien nan Luraes, was a quick-rising officer in the ranks of the Garlean military, and was one of the men assigned to help overthrow the Ala Mhigan government. In the midst of all the violence brought on by the incursion, Dorien came upon an Ala Mhigan babe... and in rare a moment of mercy, brought the infant home to his barren but loving wife, Melia Luraes. For the first many years of her life, Roen's life was a good one, raised by a doting mother and a proud father whose influence easily squashed any rumors that questioned Roen's true parentage. Dorien, who was also a brilliant engineer, was soon recruited by officers under Nael van Darnus after the destruction of the Bozja Citadel. Dorien became part of the science team to resume the study and research for Project Meteor.

Like his predecessors before him, Dorien too became obsessed with this potential power to control the moons, snatching it from the sky and bringing it down upon the planet. In his obsession, he began to neglect his daughter, and his wife. When Melia discovered the true nature of her husband's research, she became horrified by its violent and destructive nature. In her distress, she was recruited by a resistance faction who sought to undermine Nael van Darnus's ambitions.

Melia began to leak secrets to the resistance in hopes of undoing Project Meteor and freeing her husband from its obsessive grasp. But eventually Melia was caught; she was tried and executed, much to Dorien's shock and despair. He threw himself back into his work, and in exchange for his devotion, the Garlean government kept his wife's treachery and execution away from the public eye. Roen never knew the truth; she was told Melia died in an accident. She was seven years old.

After her mother's death, Roen was raised alone in a large wealthy home, with only cold servants and domineering teachers for company. Her father seemed to have lost all affection for her in his grief. She grew to love riding, finding solace in her solitude, imagining adventures as she took to long rides in the woods surrounding their home. She also was quite the tomboy, climbing trees and practicing swordplay with the house guards who humored her. Due to lack of a motherly figure, she never took to dresses or concerned herself with looking beautiful. She was always polite and acted with perfect manners, for those brief moments when her father would grace their home with his presence.

When Roen turned sixteen, in an attempt to win her absent father's love, she illegally joined with Nael van Darnus' forces in the Battle of Carteneau. She was foolish, idealistic, and full of patriotism, all of which were shattered when she actually witnessed the bloodshed and violence on the battlefield. Roen fled from the battle...

...only to witness the horrifying truth of Project Meteor from a far.

Roen survived the Calamity. She was later found malms away by a traveling vendor, while wandering the hills, dazed, delirious, and dehydrated. The merchant was a kind man; his name was Brenden Deneith. Brenden and his family took Roen in and nourished her back to health.

She stayed with the Deneith family in Western Thanalan for the next four years. In the autumn of the fourth year, another tragedy struck when bandits set upon the Deneith family during a sojourn to a nearby market. Roen and Brenden fought them off bravely, but Brenden was gravely hurt. He would eventually succumb to his injury; Roen could only watch helplessly as one of the few selfless men she had ever known began to fail and die.

When the bandits returned again two days later however, a Sultansworn patrolling nearby saved the rest of the family. And taking sympathy on them, he also returned the seemingly dead Brenden Deneith back to life---much to Roen's wonder and disbelief.

It was on this day that Roen saw her path laid out before her: that of a Sultansworn. She would do for others what this paladin did for her family, but she also felt that she owed a debt to Eorzea, for her father's involvement in the Calamity. She set out to travel to Ul'dah to begin her training.

Upon her arrival in Ul'dah, Roen struggled to make ends meet, to find work so that she could send what gil she made back to her adopted family, who had now settled upon a farm in Southern Thanalan. But with the children being too young as yet, and Brenden being weakened since his return from near death, Roen felt responsible for supporting the family who had saved her life. And so she gained employment as a hired blade, taking whatever jobs she could. She looked upon the Sultansworns with something akin to hero worship, hoping for any chance to begin her training. One of Roen's greatest fears was that she would never be worthy of it.

Unbeknownst to Roen, her father had been pardoned after the Battle of Carteneau, for he disavowed any knowledge of Project Meteor not being sanctioned by the Emperor. He was seen as a callous murderer by some, yet the Empire still valued his engineering skills. Dorien currently believes his daughter to have died with the Fall of Dalamud, but may discover soon that his only daughter is actually still alive. Roen is the only link left to his dead wife, whom he still loves beyond the realm of death...and yet he hates her for her betrayal, and would likely go to extremes to bring his wayward daughter back under his control.

===After her arrival in Ul'dah===

When Roen first arrived in Ul'dah, she found employment with a company called the Gilded Mirage Consortium. She began to slowly warm up to some of them, and before long counted many of them as her friends. The wealthy owner supported her training first as a gladiator, then as a paladin. She was even allowed to travel via airship to Gridania for training at the Steelglen Fane.

Knowing that Garleans were not gifted with the ability to draw upon the aether, Roen was shocked to find that she was able to cast magic at all. This discovery was then followed by a revelation through Siha's vision that one of her ancestors had probably been a Highlander conjurer. This prompted Roen to start researching her mother's ancestry, since her father's proud Garlean bloodline was well-known.

During her search, due to a string of misunderstandings, a Sultansworn named [[Natalie Mcbeef]], also started to suspect Roen of being involved with the Syndicate and interrogated her multiple times. While the misunderstanding was eventually cleared, the damage to her reputation had already been done; when her employer heard of the incident, she was promptly dismissed from the Consortium.

This was also when Brenden Deneith, Roen's adoptive father, began to succumb to illness again. Due to being dismissed by her former employer and the rumors that she may be connected with the Syndicate, Roen could not find any employment. This was when she took on the job of a miner, despite the fact that it did not pay very well. In order to make the necessary gil to send back to her father, Roen began to neglect her training in lieu of breaking rocks all day.

Her prolonged absence unfortunately led to her dismissal from Ser Jenlyns Straightblade, her free paladin trainer and the Captain of the Sultansworns. But [[Natalie Mcbeef]], who had previously interrogated her, took it upon herself to take Roen in as her apprentice so that she may continue Roen's paladin training. It was with Natalie's guidance and trust that Roen finally passed her trials and was sworn in as one of Ul'dah's elite protectors. Natalie and another Sultansworn named [[Kage Kiryuu]] came to learn of her Garlean heritage, and to her surprise, still accepted her as one of their own. Roen considered this small group of Sultansworns her family through duty and oath.

Roen also found employment with a Free Company called Night Blades. She believed them to serve the people of Eorzea, although through unconventional means. She also believed that their leader, Ellion Goto, to have the right intentions at heart, even if his methods had proven to be ruthless at times.

In researching her grandmother, Roen discovered that a Highlander by the name of [[Gharen Wolfsong]] was her brother by blood, and that she was taken from her family when she was a baby and given to her Garlean parents who raised her. This knowledge came at the price of much suffering and pain, mostly dealt by a mysterious Garlean woman named [[Raelisanne Banurein]], who captured and tortured Gharen Wolfsong for weeks. Roen was forced to resort to kidnapping an innocent man to trade for her brother's life, also making an enemy of another Highlander named [[Delial Grimsong]], who worked for Banurein. It was Delial who had initially befriended Roen through deception, and used her to capture Gharen and kill another Resistance leader.

After rescuing Gharen from the Garleans and helping him recover, Roen discovered that she had been suspended from her duties as Sultansworn due to an investigation that was initiated by a Monetarist noble named [[Jameson Taeros]]. It led two Immortal Flames to unearth evidence regarding a ceruleum core theft and what appeared to be a cover-up by her superior, Natalie. The three Sultansworns involved in the incident were all disgraced and given leave of duty, and to appease the Monetarists, their services were given over to the Brass Blades. Roen was assigned to a unit under the command of Captain [[Anden Anduron]].

Jameson Taeros then tasked Natalie to bring in Roen's brother, Gharen, else Roen would be tried as a Garlean spy. To hide her dealings with Taeros, Natalie arranged for Roen to be "kidnapped" by [[Askier Mergrey]] in order to keep her in the dark about the fate of her brother. Askier then asked his friend Crimson Mountain to help him, and the latter took to the task with obsessive fervor. He turned out to be a cruel and violent captor, and Askier, growing more and more uncomfortable with Crim's torment of Roen, finally attempted an escape with the hostage in tow. It ended with Askier losing an arm, and Crimson Mountain taking both Roen and Askier on a ship and sailing for destination unknown.

In the meanwhile, Natalie convinced Gharen to surrender himself to the Monestarists for Roen's own safety and freedom. She explained that she was following the Monestarists orders because they had evidence that Roen was a Garlean. To gain amnesty for Roen, she agreed to bring Gharen in, knowing full well that he would likely be killed. He agreed to this term to save his sister, and both believed that Roen would be delivered by Askier back to Ul'dah safe and sound.

But when Natalie realized that the kidnapping had gone horribly wrong, she and Kage recruited the help of [[Osric Melkire]] to break Gharen out, and they all eventually faced down Crimson Mountain for the two captives he had tortured for many days on the seas. Delial agreed to sail away with Crimson Mountain in exchange for Roen and Askier's freedom, to which Crim complied. Once alone on the boat with the Roe, Delial delivered death onto him with a blade to his neck.

Natalie, seeing Roen's condition after her rescue, forced herself to cut all ties with the Hyur, dismissing her from the Blades and calling her weak. She also hid away any regret as she spoke to Roen, nearly gloating about her own ruthlessness. That final betrayal shattered what remained of Roen's strength and resolve to hold herself together, and the Hyur broke. Gharen took it upon himself to take his sister way from Ul'dah, much to Natalie's silent relief.

Roen hid out with her brother in La Noscea, recovering both mentally and physically from her ordeal. She also began to train in hand-to-hand combat, but then discovered that she was wanted on the charges of being a Garlean spy. Rather than risking the lives of loved ones who would stand to defend her against those who came to arrest her, Roen turned herself in. She held to her faith that truth would exonerate her and despite the warnings of many, believed that the Ul'dah justice system would find her innocent. Due to diligence on the part of Natalie, Kage, and Coatleque, Roen was found innocent, and was even offered to be reinstated to the rank of the Sultansworn if she wished to return.

===The paladin meets the smuggler===

Since regaining her freedom, Roen turned her focus instead toward [[Jameson Taeros]]. She suspected that he was not only working for the Syndicate, but also for [[Raelisanne Banurein]], a woman who shared a mysterious past with her Garlean father. While investigating and gathering evidence on Taeros, Roen met a smuggler by the name of [[Nero Lazarov]]. In getting to know the man, her eyes were opened to the sufferings of the poor and the underprivileged in Ul'dah, so she joined his crusade to oust the corruption of the Monetarists.

The two have fought and argued more than exchanged pleasantries, but Roen could not help but be drawn to his relentless commitment to his cause. She also feared that he was headed down a dark path to see it through and promised herself to save him from such a fate. Somewhere along that journey, she came to realize that he meant more to her than just someone who shared her dream, and finally confessed to Nero that he had her trust...and her heart.

While Nero worked tirelessly to choke off the Syndicate's wealth by raiding their merchant ships on the seas, Roen worked to undermine the Monetarists' reputation and their loyalties to each other. She entered an agreement with a valet named [[Gideon North]], a man who was also investigating the wealthy Ul'dahn nobles for his own purposes. Gideon became Taeros' personal butler to serve as eyes and ears to Roen regarding the noble and the Monetarist families. [[Coatleque Crofte]] seduced Taeros in an effort to investigate him, but also draw his eyes and attention away from Roen. Roen even enlisted the help of [[Delial Grimsong]] who agreed to work for Taeros in an effort to keep abreast of his movements against Nero.

But as Nero's ruthless methods and plans came to light, Roen found herself becoming alienated from those she loved and held dear. Gharen, after discovering that Nero had an entire noble family killed for his plans, told Roen that he would be doing whatever he could to stop the pirate. The siblings understood they would be opposing each other as they parted ways. [[Verad Bellveil]], a Duskwight merchant that Roen considered to be one of her closest confidants, had also broken her trust in trying to steer her away from what he perceived to be an unrighteous path. And Gideon discovered that one of the people who had been responsible for his Master's death was none other than Nero Lazarov himself. He ended the agreement with Roen in working for Nero against the Monetarists, but remained in her service still.

Nero and Roen's plans were beginning to take hold, throwing chaos into the Monetarists' once secure power structure within Ul'dah. But when the pirate's crew found out about the innocent lives their captain had taken, they mutinied against him and took over his ship. They were the only family he had left. This threw Nero into a pit of despair where he considered giving up his entire plan. Roen was also lured into a trap by Ser Crofte and delivered to Taeros' dungeons.

With help of Gideon North, Roen escaped, only to wonder if her cause was indeed true. [[Osric Melkire]] led a small group to rescue Roen and to lure out Taeros, and ended up shooting the noble at point blank range with a gunblade. In trade for Osric's victory against the Monetarist noble, Nero relinquished all the details of his violent plan that involved the bandits and a ceruleum powered Dreadnaught that was smuggled into Ul'dah.

While Osric and Ser Crofte worked together to stop the bandits' bloody plans, Roen enlisted Kiht's help to find Nero, to bring him to justice.

But their final meeting was fated to end dark and bloody, as Nero had always predicted. Recognizing him as a violent anarchist that would not stop in achieving his goals, Roen killed him when he refused to be arrested, plunging her blade into his heart.

===General Bio===

Kiht Jakkya is a very traditional Keeper of the Moon. She grew up in the Twelveswood with her family and Keeper group. She was trained to be a huntress and scout for her group. She learned to track, hunt, scout and fight from a childhood age. While she grew up in a Matriarchal society, she learned a lot from her father and uncles, and trained with her cousins and sisters. She knows a lot about the Black Shroud, and has a hard time with Gridanian laws and regulations as it had been a hindrance to her Keeper group's traditional ways.

Kiht was once arrested by the Gridanians due to a misunderstanding. She spent a year in Gridania being "rehabilitated" by the Twin Adders. While she was a Gridanian captive, a sympathetic (and brave) Elezen soldier decided to impart to her a great deal of knowledge on the world and the ways of the Lancers. Kiht returned to her family as a more educated huntress who helped her group establish a dialogue with the Gridanians. While the Gridanians wouldn't have been considered the group's allies, they were no longer enemies five years after the Calamity.

Since then, Kiht has seen many places in Eorzea, and has been a part of several lives.

===Appearance===

Kiht Jakkya is small, even by Miqo'te standards, but that is actually true of most of the females in her small family. Kiht usually appears serious and doesn't often show her emotions easily. The hard life that she has shared with her group in the Black Shroud has made her stoic and often well-guarded. She has a teardrop tattoo on her forehead witch represents a tear of Menphina. She grows jet-black hair, and has a small scar close to her right eye which possibly has a story of its own. If one were to look closely at Kiht's eyes, they would see a color matching the blue of a starlit night sky.

===Behavior===

Kiht is willful and somewhat stubborn in her views. She has a strong curiosity, and is an astute observer. She is fierce in battle, but often very calm otherwise which is why many who have never seen her fight do not think she can. She may even be shy around certain people. Her favored goddesses are Menphina the Lover (as per clan tradition) and Halone the Fury, goddess of battle. Some might say the persona of the two cousin goddesses are expressed in Kiht. She is furiously protective of people she cares about, and yet has a sensitivity to her that might melt a grizzled Roegadyn pirate.

She speaks like an educated Eorzean, so many might not be aware of her nomadic and traditional upbringing when they first meet her. Most people don't realize that her way of speaking is practiced, and that she wasn't always so sophisticated with speech. She learned that people judge others by the way they talk, so she has learned to use that to her advantage.

Kiht displays the tendencies of a traditional Keeper in that she has trouble with male authority, and a strong respect for other females. However, she has come to look beyond those biases in some cases, so there are some males she respects a great deal, and some females she has come to dislike.

Jakkya – a word associated within the family as flight, movement, navigation and jumping. The Jakkya family has been part of Keeper society for countless generations, and maybe even several eras. However, the family history can only be traced back to 100 years past. Four generations ago, there was the “Bair Rfrad” (big split) where the family got too large and females were chosen to break from the family to create their own sects of the Jakkya family.

One such female was Nhagi Jakkya. She took to the East Shroud, and joined the Raptoreye Clan. It is unclear whether that group is what formed the Raptor Poachers of today, or if some of the Clan joined the Raptor Poachers after the Clan disbanded, but most of Nhagi's children ended up becoming “poachers” by Gridanian law.

The Generation of Tyago (one of Nhagi's daughters) was full of conflict with the Gridanian peoples. It was not something she wanted for her children. After her children had come of age, Tyago boldly declared that the Jakkya family be split from the Raptor Poachers. That declaration caused the “Jakkya Rseddasailr” (Jakkya scattering). Tyago's children were furious at their mother for having broken them from their Clan. Some choose to head South, and follow a Keeper survivalist philosophy. Others, such as Yabi, joined with a peaceful nomadic family of Keepers called the Kaatah. The two families formed the Shriekshroom Clan.

During the third generation of Nhagi's line, the Jakkya family was split into three sects by the “Jakkya Rseddasailr”. One group was part of the Shriekshroom Clan, the second group rejoined other sects (formed by sisters of Nhagi) of the family that formed from the “Bair Rfrad”, and the third group headed South to join the more ruthless groups of survivalist Keepers.

While the first and second groups of the “Jakkya Rseddasailr” stayed in contact and trade, the third group was not heard from until the only known surviving member from the third group's children, Taiga Jakkya, was found by Kiht Jakkya during her search for family.

Over a thousand years in the Black Shroud helped to “hard-wire” certain physical and mental traits into the Jakkya family. While diversity does get introduced to the family through wandering males, there are certain traits that are common for those with Jakkya blood.

Small size:
Size matters, but big and strong was not key for the family. Despite being hunters with emphasis on athletics, the Jakkya are typically small for a reason. Smaller bodies require less food and water to sustain, are easier to hide and are lighter on the environment. Jakkya are not powerful like Coeurls, they are lithe like Raptors.

Fair skin:
Not as much a liability for stealth at night as one might assume. Paints and coverings could hide most of the “moonlight skin” when needed, but in a place where moonlight beams through canopies to create blotches of whitish glow mixed with the dark of night, the Jakkya skin and hair colors worked quite well.

While there are instances where wandering males with darker skin contributed to the genes of the Jakkya family, it is by coincidence and lifestyle that made fair skin common for them long before Nhagi's time.

The Jakkya family put heavy emphasis on hunting, pack-fighting and Opo-opo tactics (guerrilla warfare). Generations of this emphasized the ability of Jakkyas to stay calm and collected then trigger quickly into bursts of controlled ferocity. They knew they were not large, so they had to be aggressive, but only at opportune moments.

This required using scouting to their advantage, and developed a great cultural pride in scouting. Such a cultural aspect helped to encourage Jakkyas to be curious and adventurous. The Jakkya traditionally emphasized the “Cuna ull dha Ezfrusasr” (Code of the Explorers). This code was made to dictate a scout's conduct while on their own in an environment. It was the “Cuna ull dha Ezfrusasr” that eventually lead to a traditional code that dictated all aspects of the family behavior.

Examples of the code's stipulations:
Lying is a great dishonor. A scout that lies is a killer of family.
Peace to strangers. A scout is to -not- make war with neutral groups.
Courage with the unknown. New things can be new dangers, but can also be new knowledge.

The “Cuna ull dha Ezfrusasr” is drilled into most Jakkyas' heads from the age in which they first begin to speak.

Since a time immemorial, the Jakkya family used the spears, bows and knives as hunting tools. As the generations went by in the Twelveswood, they witnessed the invasion of the Ala Mhigans and Garleans. They fought the Ixal, and often competed for territory with other Keeper groups. They had their fair share of tense encounters and disputes with the Gridanians. As a result, their simple hunting techniques advanced into martial arts of the lance, bow and knife.

The family spear art favors the balance, agility and dexterity of the Miqo'te build. Taking into consideration the raw strength of Hyur, and the long reach of the Elezen, the Jakkya developed lancer techniques that would sometimes be considered unconventional, and definitely favor the Miqo'te strengths.

Their archery style is inherited from the time-honored short-bow style that Miqo'te from many clans and tribes use to this day. Their knife-fighting is simple, but ferocious.

Leather-working and wood-working are common crafts in the family. It was essential as the family needed to make weapons and leathers for their members.

Due to the family split that occurred, and the Calamity that scattered some of the family about the lands, many individuals could have picked up new forms of combat and craft.

Family members would be observed and tested until age ten with very simple methods. Upon reaching the age of ten, the family matron would choose a role for the young members. That is when training would begin. Training would continue for 5 to 8 years. When the trainees felt ready for the adulthood trial, they would take a trial tailored to their role.

Family Matron: the leader of the family; only one would fill this role. Often an elder chosen by vote.

Scout: the only field role where members worked alone. Scouts were the family's primary means of gaining knowledge.

Huntress: the most common role in the family. All members were expected to learn how to hunt if they were able. However, there were those who specialized in this role.

Trapper: this role was either given to those who were not physically capable of becoming Huntresses, or those who showed a great interest in working with contraptions. They were the family's primary innovators of technology.

Wanderer: this role was given to males who are expected to leave the family and wander. Males in this role sometimes returned to the family to bring new gifts of knowledge. However, since wandering males could not be controlled, there was no way to force them to return. Sometimes wandering males wouldn't return.

Guardian: this was a role given only to males who showed high combat skill and ability. These were males that had to be willing to stay with the family. They were often assigned to protect the matron. Sometimes Guardians would change role to Wanderers, and other times Wanderers would return to the family to become Guardians.

Sage: only one individual would be selected for this role which was often assigned to older females of the family. It was the duty of the Sage to help the Matron make decisions, negotiate and keep history records. The Sage was also often used to teach children knowledge.

Chanter: in the instance a member was born capable of hearing the spirits of the Shroud, they would become a Chanter. The name of the role came from the fact that they would often spontaneously speak about the feelings of the spirits at random times.

Builder's Hands: a glorified name for crafters. These were the members of the family who primarily focused on making leathers, weapons and trinkets. They often worked closely with Trappers.

Caretaker: members of the family who focused on healing the injured, treating the sick, and caring for children younger than age ten.

The primary color of the Jakkya family is blue. It represents ice which is the element of Menphina. The second color is amber/gold which represent the lifeblood of trees which are the primary foundation of the Twelveswood. The colors are ceremonial, and not used when hunting or scouting.

The family symbol is the Raptor eye which represents sight and observation. The Raptor is an honored creature to the family, and even when hunted, it is afforded respect and admiration. The scalekin is only hunted in a conservative manner. This symbol comes from the founding Raptoreye Clan started by Nhagi Jakkya.

Kiht sometimes seriously worries about Sanja, but the teenage Keeper has been in Kiht's life for so long, she considers her a sister.

<font style="color:#9EC60B;" size="3">●</font>[[Cy'xanne Nunh]] - Is a Seeker who use to exchange frequent philosophical conversations with Kiht. She finds him to be intelligent and wise. Most would not give him the benefit of the doubt due to his title, but Kiht knew better. If Kiht had been born a Seeker, she would have joined his tribe. However, as a Keeper, she can still at least be his friend.

However, Kiht has come a long way in respecting that her cousin is not typical. Khloe supported Kiht on many occasions, and Kiht has not forgotten. Khloe is the oddest Jakkya, but she is still a Jakkya.

She passed trials at a surprisingly young age, and ambitiously set off to Limsa Lominsa to learn new things that would benefit the family. She did not return until recently. Kiht thought she was dead, but quite the opposite; Nesha became an assassin on the caliber of the Rogues of Limsa Lominsa.

Kage is a Dunesfolk Lalafell whose family has lived in the Thanalan for many, many years. He was traveling through Thanalan, the Clutch area, when he spied something that festered a strange feeling within him. He was driven and inspired by the events he saw; of Papashan and other Sultansworn coming to the aid of another. It became the driving force within him to train to be a paladin and to eventually become Sultansworn. This led to him meeting with the Sultansworn, Natalie, as well as others that she knew. He has since realized that the politics of the job and those of Ul'dah were that in which he's not capable of handling. He's since left the Sultansworn order, taking up an axe and short sword.

===Appearance===
Kage is shortest of adult male Dunesfolk Lalafell. He has blue hair with highlights of a red shade. His head is constantly topped by a white beret or some other ridiculous hat though the white beret is a near constant. He normally carries an axe as his new weapon of choice and a short sword is attached to his belt, laid parallel to his belt.

===Behavior===
Once he's comfortable and willing to open up, Kage will be happy to give people as good as he takes it. He's shy, soft-spoken, reserved and mild-mannered but also playful when with friends. He cares very much for those he becomes friends with. As such, he does not take well to being insulted for seeing whether his friends are in danger or being harassed. Only his self-restraint keeps him from lashing out at someone physically or violently for doing so. He's very forceful when he feels like his friends need to be defended from physical or personal attack. He does not easily make friends by himself, usually making friends from friends. He can be found sitting on the rail in Quicksand, outside of Quicksand by Ruby Road, or sitting at a table in the Airship landing. Kage finds it very hard to lie to people to their faces and usually would prefer not to unless for a good reason. Thus, he hates it when people lie to him. He has a lot of anxieties about himself, but he's started to grow stronger as his training progresses. He believes in his friends and is generally too "goody two shoes". He wouldn't enforce this belief unto others, especially his friends, unless he thought that the trouble for them is too much or if it puts them into danger. He doesn't like it when his friends get hurt, being upset that they would not ask him for help or for him to cover their backs. He does not have a rigid sense of judgment only a subjective right or wrong on how people are affected.

===Combat===
While Kage is skilled with manipulating his own aether, he highly prefers not doing so. Like all paladins, he has very basic knowledge of conjury and the arts of healing. He may be able to tend to a wound, he certainly cannot do major surgery. The Lalafell prefers are large battle axe and a short sword that he keeps in a scabbard along his waist. If he can, he would use the two in combination together.

Kage's mother's side of the family had a heavy focus in thaumaturgy and a few tomes ready for study on some black magicks. Kage's father comes from a family who specialized in goldsmithing. His father does quite well in goldsmithing so that Kage and his family were never in want. Kage has two siblings, an older brother and a younger sister. His brother continues the family's goldsmithing business while his sister has turned to alchemy. Kage was disowned by his family when he was, later found to be temporarily, transformed into a Miqo'te. Perhaps, he wasn't disowned by all of them if his gift was any indication.

Kage is generally easy to get along with and so far has not had the need nor the want to make enemies. However, he has started to have a bit of a dislike for those with lances. But now... Twelve have mercy does Kage have some fondness for him? It certainly is not what Kage felt for others such as Frhanz'ir or Salem, not at all. But, the lalafell didn't hate him. He... cared for him. Why? The lalafell struggles with this.

'''[[Delial Grimsong]]:''' She once had great reason to hate the lalafell. After all, it was in Kage's misguided attempts to assist Roen while fulfilling his duties to Ul'dah did Grimsong lose some fingernails to Natalie. He finds the highlander very stubborn but.. well, it would not be a lie if Kage said he might even be fond of her sometimes. He is also quite happy that she does not actively show any explicit signs of hate towards him. Even her snide smirks at him sometimes made him feel... it was complicated. He doesn't want her dead at least.

=History(Spoilers)=
==The Before==
His mother raised Kage to be the heir of sorts of her family line since his oldest brother was and continues to be his better at shaping the fine and malleable metals that Kage was only average at best at. He ruined the gold metals and others. Kage has a fairly decent amount of control over the large amount of aether he has so his mother put him on that path. It was not a fulfilling life prospect and so a few years after the Calamity Kage found his life changing.

Traveling through the Thanalan, The Clutch area, Kage observed an incident in which several Sultansworn came to the aid of a fellow. They were led by a Lalafell. Kage wasn't sure about how things came to be but he soon felt something in himself that wanted change. He wanted to do something with his life and not just follow the flow his family had set for him. Leaving against the protests of his mother, Kage packed his things and left for Ul'dah. He hid his aetherial disposition unless the very odd jobs that he took required them, and only if no one would be the wiser. He asked for help and advice, receiving it from those he'd made contact with.

==The Journey==
Kage did not make these contacts easily. Nor did he ask for help so easily either. Through time and his initial correspondence with Natalie Mcbeef he was able to foster relationships and himself. He was introduced to Roen Deneith and many more. His aetherial proficiency came to surface when his friends showed that they might be in trouble. In a small confrontation between Marrow and a few others, he tried to use his magic to get Marrow and others out of the incident. It then became useful when dealing with a friend's, Salem Nunh's, crisis.

Kage had since started to wind down and relax, focusing on his training to be better at using a sword and shield. He recently undertook the Sultansworn Trials alongside Roen. Erik Mynhier administered the Trial of Faith to Kage first. While lounging in the Quicksand and speaking with Natalie, he was surprised by the Trial of Courage Natalie decided to administer to him. He and Roen took the Trial of Loyalty together under Anelia Sadowyn. They left not knowing whether they passed or failed. After watching Roen's own Trial of Courage, Kage learned of his failing the Trial of Loyalty. Upon re-trial of the Trial of Loyality with his friend Lambert Arkwright, they were told by Anelia that Kage and Lambert passed.

In between the Trials, Kage heard Natalie call for assistance from those harassing her and Kayah. He went to support her only to be insulted and offended by one of the masked, hooded, or helmed lancers.

==The Royal Ball of Ul'dah and its Aftermath==
Kage and Roen were sworn and mere days later the Royal Ball of Ul'dah was had. During that time Kage met and befriended another Lalafell named Rurutani Sasatani, quickly becoming close. After a small mission to look into the lancers from before to see if they meant Ul'dah or Ul'dahn citizens harm, Kage suggested that Ruru apply to become a Sultansworn recruit. It was thus then that Kage became Ruru's mentor. Kage was able to accompany [[Dennthota Ahtahrmwyn]] at the ball for a short while, enjoying her company outside having sparred with her. He had to leave for some small time to guard the Sultana as she met with audiences but soon after Kage was relieved of his duties. When he found Denn once more she quickly told him she had to leave. Kage left the ball and returned shortly after, noticing that Natalie was not there anymore. Afterwards Natalie returned to the ball and let slip that both Natalie and Denn had had a tryst together. Distraught, Kage told his friends over the pearl that he would be somewhere else. His friends followed him, worried, but he ran away to the Airship bar that he liked to frequent to be alone. There he found someone who he had met awhile before, a female Keeper named Suri. He knew Suri to be acquainted with or thought to be friends of Natalie and Kayah. Knowing of the complicated relationship he did not tell Suri why he was upset when she tried to ask. After a few drinks, Kage swore to put this behind him as he was friends and family with Natalie and Kayah first. While he believed there was more to Denn than just a fighter, he would rather see his relationship with Natalie ok. He left the bar and his hat and headed to the ball. He found Natalie and Kayah arguing and he paused. He walked towards the Alchemists' Guild but knew he would rather repair this. He walked back to try and talk to them only for them to leave angry and hurt. Having felt as if he was the cause for his friends, Kage broke down crying where they once stood as he heard Natalie break her pearl. After awhile, deciding that he would return to drinking he headed to the Alchemist's Guild's Aetheryte shard only to find a scene that would hit him to the core. Kayah lay on the floor, beaten and bloodied with his head caved in slightly. The attackers were hooded, masked or helmed but he could tell that at least two were Roegadyn female and one was a Miqo'te female pugilist. With one last knife stab into Kayah's back the leader called her group to leave. Only with help from Natalie's friends in the Night Blades did Kayah's fate not turn to the worst imaginable. Kage returned to the airship bar for his hat as well as to tell Suri about Kayah. There he found out that for a moment Suri was involved and it related to her being able to take out Natalie. Enraged, Suri left to deal with the one she only knew of as a tall purple haired female Roegadyn.

Left to himself, Kage tried to do all he could to find information about this Roegadyn and her band. Soon afterwards he found Suri, who he found out was beaten and tortured for telling Kage any information about the Roegadyn and a perceived betrayal on the Roegadyn's part. Kage learned that he best lay low as Suri had been told to silence him. She obviously was not there to do so but to make sure that Kage lived. Roen, dealing with her own troubles still, found him after receiving word from Natalie. Knowing that Roen had much on her plate, Kage did not tell her the extent of what he was going through and only told her some things. She left him be, trusting him to confide in her. While trying to lay low, Kage failed and was attacked in Pearl Lane just outside of the Quicksand by a female pugilist Miqo'te. In the process, Kage received a head injury and a snapped arm while his friend Ruru took a blow meant to kill Kage to his eye. Denn showed up and took them both to be healed after Roswyn revived Kage to consciousness.

It was at this time Kage retreated into himself, in a world of self-pity and self-despair. Feeling as if he had failed Ruru and that the other Lalafell would hate him, Kage did not actively seek out the other. Natalie soon returned and it was then Kage almost gave up on his life. He had faltered, for a bit, and it had nearly broke him and his oaths. It was then that things with Roen's plight came to light as well and she also lectured Kage, making him realize that though he was burdened he did fail his friend Ruru. He had left him alone. Kage tracked him down in La Noscea and the two had words. All was said and done, their bonds renewed, hopefully for the stronger. Returning to Ul'dah, Natalie tasked Kage with the tracking of one Highlander female who Roen had informed them of. Delial Grimsong. After seeing her speaking with Chokho outside of Quicksand, making a deal, Kage hoped to make his own deal with her to ensure Roen's deal would come out well while dealing with anyone who might serve to deal Ul'dah harm. However, a masked female Roegadyn started to spread inflammatory remarks, defaming Kage in the public. She even called him out in front of the whole Quicksand while he was there, insulting him by calling him a traitor. He and Natalie let her be, deciding that she was just deranged. With Ruru's skills and reconnaissance after Kage mentioned having seen her outside of Quicksand speaking with Chokho and making a deal, Natalie and Kage interrogated Delial over her interests in Ul'dah. Kage was clearly uncomfortable, knowing what this might do for Roen's deal. Soon afterwards he would find out that it soured things for them all.

Having reaffirmed his place with Natalie, Kayah, and another in an urban tribe of sorts, Kage was taken from behind as he stood on the railing in Quicksand as per his usual. A blade held to his back, the masked Roegadyn from before told him if he cooperated nothing would happen. Some of Kage's friends were present and noticed that something was amiss, most especially the Free Paladin Nazeru Auronas. A chase out to the steps ended with Kage being wounded. Nazeru got him back into Ul'dah, where quick aid was applied. Ser Anelia Sadowyn answered a call for help where she took Kage to a clinic once Natalie saw that Kage would be safe in her hands. While being tended to by Ser Anelia, a call over one of his linkpearls alerted Kage in his weary state that they had been able to track down the Roegadyn. When he expressed his desire to help, his loved ones told him his only job was to rest. Resigned, he stayed still at the clinic but he encouraged Ser Anelia that perhaps lending her medical aid would be a boon. It was a complete surprise to him when she decided to take him with her. He had only had time to tell Denn who had called him worried that he didn't know where he was but that he was headed to Camp Drybone, where he found himself in the middle of a chaotic field of battle. Right until he was hastily barreled over, being taken up into the arms of a heavily armed, axe-wielding Roegadyn. It was a stand-off as Natalie held the attempted kidnapping Roegadyn and the new Roegadyn held Kage with an axe to his throat. In the end, Natalie took the one to be interrogated, Kage was thrown away as the Axe-wielding one teleported away. Soon after Kage was forced by his loved ones to rest, having been forced to ingest a tea that knocked him out for a bit so that his breathing would get better. Later, Kage learned who exactly these two Roegadyn were.

==The Break==
Kayah and Natalie had had some arguments, resulting in Kayah leaving. Kage found him at the Sanctum of the Twelve, in an effort to find out the cause of this rift. Not seeing how he could get Kayah from permanently leaving Kage slowly made his way back home, and finding a baby opo-opo. Making it back to Ul'dah and feeling as if his life was breaking apart, Kage never made it back to the place that was considered his home. Despondently, he sat outside of the Quicksand, unmoving until Natalie came to him to set him right. The tribe was together again until a series of incidents tore them apart once more. An attack on Lolorito's house was blamed on C'kayah Tia. Breaking a promise to Kage, he left without a word. Kage knew that Kayah was innocent but was upset that he had left. Kage was sent on a mission to La Noscea, rumors abound of Kayah being sighted there. Kage met Suri, bringing her business and bad news. He however was quite glad to see her happy and seemingly engaged. Soon, Kayah and Natalie spoke together, bringing Kage into the conversation that broke it apart. Kayah had plans as his head was now wanted by two forces. While Kage was simply concerned and wanted to offer his aid, Kayah insisted that Natalie should speak to Osric with Kage or not at all. Natalie left, leaving Kage and Kayah to talk. Kayah perceived this as abandonment and the tribe was no more.

Meeting with Natalie in Limsa Lominsa, they found Roen with her brother. After finding out that Roen would be returning to the city once more, Kage and Natalie spoke. It was then that Kage found out exactly what was happening. Kayah had left and Kage blamed the Flame. He had left his pearls behind and the tribe was in danger of being broken apart once more. Natalie said that the tribe needed a leader, the one that protected the tribe and kept it safe to grow together, the nunh. In a moment of desperation and resolve, Kage told Natalie that he would take it. He would become the one to keep the tribe together and protected, so that all the ones he loved would have a place. She agreed.

In Ul'dah once more having had a fruitless search for C'kayah Tia, Kage resumed his work until he dug into it. He was dead. In disbelief, Kage drank his sorrows away at the Quicksand but his friends told him that they doubted Kayah could be dead. Kage resolved to find the Flame and when he did he found out that Kayah was alive. And yet, he had not returned. He had not spoken to them at all. Kage told Osric that the Flame should try to keep out of his business and his life and parted ways. Speaking one night in the Quicksand speaking with Aya, Kage was pushed over by an armored axe-wielder. Kage insisted that the man follow him outside of the Quicksand where the man took a swing at him with his axe. Kage blocked the blow, as onlookers came out and he called for them to not interfere. Kage tried to force the man out of the gates when he grabbed Kage and teleported them to Eastern Thanalan. There Kage realized that the man was the same Garlean mercenary that he had fought with during the Mergrey bomb incident. A Garlean experiment caused strange aetheric events that Kage could not even resort to his magicks of old to fight against. Kage was able to deal a blow to the Mercenary before an axe swing threw Kage onto this back. The mercenary grew bored and left, leaving Kage to head back to Ul'dah and heal.

After soothing Aya's concerns and a quick heal for the most serious of sores, Kage walked out of the quicksand into Pearl lane only to happen onto Kayah. In an angry exchange of words, Natalie came upon them as well. It ended with C'kayah leaving and Kage in despair over his relationship with C'kayah Tia. It looked like it was not going to be the same ever again. While in his heart Kage hopes that he can see Kayah once more, he has more pressing issues such as keeping his family together and happy.

==A Blade Dulled but a Heart Refined==
In time, Natalie and Kage's concealment of what they knew of Roen's dealings caught up to the three. A hand with connections in the Syndicate looking to get their focus off had them disgraced and they were transferred to the Brass Blades. Kage soon realized that this had something to do with Roen and had resolved to do anything and everything he could so that she would not have that attention come to light.

After one morning patrol, Kage had been heading home via the Aetheryte in the plaza. As he was in the process of using it he was, unbeknownst to him, knocked out by the Garlean mercenary once more. Bells later he woke up in Crescent Cove almost naked and in a different form. Under some force and guidance by some such as C'kayah, he grew to accept some of the new changes to him. Soon after he had to prove to the Brass Blades as he was ordered to retrieve gil from the Quicksand while Monetarist or Brass Blade spies watched him. Momodi was not there and alas Aya was the one Kage had to pursue. This led to Aya fleeing and Kage could not follow. He ended his report truthfully up to that point and then lied to the Brass Blades about how he came up with more gil than was ordered to retrieve.

Kage found out that a deal Natalie made with Jameson Taeros included giving them Gharen Wolfsong, Roen's brother. For this Natalie was going to get Roen's freedom and amnesty, no fear of being hanged as a Garlean spy. But in order to give Gharen to Jameson, Natalie had Askier Mergrey kidnap and take Roen away until Natalie received the documents for Roen's freedom. Instead, Roen and Askier came under torture by Crim, an offensive Roegadyn that Kage had had the displeasure of meeting and working with twice before he found out Crim's role in Roen's disappearance. A team of Natalie, Kage and Osric Melkire got Gharen out of his imprisonment and later a large group went to find Roen and Askier. In the end, Natalie cut Roen free, free of any duty to Ul'dah... and free of any ties to Natalie herself. Kage retrieved Roen's items and gave them to Melkire, asking him to deliver the bundle to its owner, Roen. Unknown to many, it held Kage's goodbye to Roen: a white feathered beret.

Conversations made him very wary and anxious, especially that of Melkire's. Kage was desperate, hell bent on making sure that Natalie did not die. By her own hands or Melkire's. Or Jameson Taeros's. This made Kage approach both Commander Swift of the Immortal Flames as well as Jameson Taeros.

Captain Anden Anduron summoned Kage's presence after the Captain spoke to Natalie. He promoted Kage to Lieutenant and instructed him to bring Roen in for desertion. He also told Kage that Natalie was demoted for 'fraternizing with a subordinate' as it showed favoritism and could lower units' morale. He was clear that if Kage continued with Natalie, that Kage would be strung up in the square and castrated. In his instructions to Kage to bring Roen, he was willing to give him 10 men. All this culminated in Kage's decision. He would first approach Roen. Upon return to Ul'dah, he would resign from the Brass Blades and confess to his sins. Kage received a missive from Commander Swift that he would also speak to the Captain about when he resigned.

Upon arrival, Kage notified Natalie and they went to speak with Captain Anduron together. He already knew. Anduron listed the names of the men that were killed, more than those that Kage had slain himself. The Captain saved him from execution, stating that by keeping Kage in the Brass Blades they would punish him in-house for the deaths. When Kage was to meet with the Captain, a hooded man attempted to assassinate the Brass Blades Captain. He severely wounded Stank Balls Mcbeef and was able to use smoke bombs to cover his teleportation. Kage was hit upside the head another day and met the would-be assassin, Xydane Vale, when he awoke. Natalie and Franz found him as he had commented on the suspicious nature that the man had approached Kage in before Kage was knocked unconscious. Xydane left once more, later sending a missive stating that he would leave matters to the people of Ul'dah and Kage decided that he would not pursue him. ... after all, inside, Kage wished he could have stabbed Stank Balls himself for what he did to Roen. With the Captain missing and news of Jin'li growing ever worse, Kage dug around. Unfortunately, all news were too late. An attack on the gates drew him outside of the Gates of Thal where he encountered 2 females, one of whom he recognized as Hornet. He wounded the helmed female fighting Hornet as the Roegadyn fell but a shout from the attacker's companion made him suspect who it was. After getting Hornet sorted out Kage learned of the events that had unfolded. The attack had been a diversion and a couple hundreds were dead from poisoned waters. Soon after the reports of the poison, Kage's suspicions were confirmed. One of the attackers was Franz and the other... the other was Natalie who had been under Jameson Taeros's orders. Natalie spoke with Taeros and returned a Sultansworn once more as Kage learned of what Jin'li's next plans for Ul'dah were from Ros. Kage sent word to all the Brass Blades he could command as well as just notify about Jin'li and his appearance. Using the dead to make an army of voidsent powered bodies with a Black Mage ally. The use of a bomb with a cerulean core.

When Kage finally caught wind of Jin'li, he had entered the city through the Gate of the Sultana playing a violin. Natalie and Franz distracted him as Kage attempted to sneak up and subdue the Miqo'te. While Kage's attack was successful, he ultimately fell to two gunblade shots to his chest and a fireball burn. Natalie and Franz pursued but only Franz could continue after Jin'li while Natalie brought one of the Miqo'te's assassin agents. Using this injury, Kage resigned from the Brass Blades with no resistance as Captain Anduron was still missing.

After a long hard talk with Natalie, Kage resolved himself back onto his path. He once swore an oath to not falter and should he stumble, he had faith in his fellows. He desired to rejoin the Sultansworn once more and has told both Natalie and Roen this. After visiting Roen in the Sultansworn gaols, he has decided to seek out Delial Grimsong in hopes of finding a Highlander by the name of Shaelen, in order to clear Gharen's name as Kage is confident that Roen would be cleared.

With the Sultansworn Crofte taking over the investigation Kage was able to make contact with The Rose. While wary, Kage accepted the miqo'te's plans to change his life, and make anew in order for Cicero to recant his inflammatory accusation of Roen being a spy for the Garlean Empire. This also meant that Kage found a place for the Rose in the Brass Blades and would not speak of his former affiliations with the Garlean Empire. With this recanting, Roen was cleared of all charges as well as Gharen. The names of the Sultansworn involved were cleared and all approved to return from their suspensions.

Certain events caused Kage to believe that the best course of action was to purchase the supplies needed to defend his house and home. In doing so, he took out a mortgage on the house from Ul'dahn bankers to purchase Ishgardian steel cannons. In order to start repaying the loans back, Kage had both opened his house to others as well as those who need a cheaper place to live than in the Inn all the time. After watching Natalie make it to the Championship round of the Grindstone, Kage decided to test his worth as well. He too made it to the Championship round but he fell and yielded when he was distracted by his thoughts on Natalie and Faine.

In the meantime, Kage has been informed that he was to be the mentor of one Lalafell, [[Koporo Aporo]] into his own trials of the Sultansworn. This has left Kage with both apprehension and resolve. Especially after the debacle that Kage made for Rurutani... he is worried he might do the same once again. Tensions and the belief that Natalie did not trust him led to a small fight. Right after he casted a ring to propose to her, he was beaten and left for dead in Pearl Lane. The attack him left him without much memory and he'd only been left with a few items, such as his smithing kit. He had stayed in Limsa with a Blacksmith master who helped foster Kage's smithing talent, something he found to be much more... wieldy than goldsmithing ever was. One night he woke up as a Lalafell and the shock of it to his system brought back his memories. He returned to Ul'dah and his home.

When he found out that Natalie died in a botched raid, Kage suspected Taeros' hand in it. No matter what. What was once his favorite sword has become something of a botched nightmare for him to look at. His grief turned Kage into a recluse. He drank a lot, spending time at the pubs or occasionally at the Grindstone. He spent his time investing his money or taking on leves.

Kage then found himself in the Lavender Beds, hearing that his former Paladin mentor, Erik and his free company were trying to raise funds for a home. Kage was quite uncomfortable in the setting, finding solace by sitting next to a young Keeper and a female Hyur who didn't seem to speak much. It was when an Elezen maid for an Ul'dahn merchant approached the Keeper that the lalafell learned his name, Ilwe'ran. Very curious, and relishing in the kind atmosphere that Kage found with the Keeper, Kage followed out of curiosity and concern. After some misbehavior, Kage offered to accompany the Keeper in his meeting with the Ul'dahn merchant, Rhea.

==Where Kage can be found at the Moment==
Current location: Ishgard and its surrounding areas. Stays at the Forgotten Knight or may be seen trying (unsuccessfully) speak with and gain those of The Brume's trust.

Mail can be forwarded to him from his stay in Ilwe'ran's clan home in the Lavender Beds or to the Ishgardian Post.

Kage has been in Ishgard, keeping a Lalafellin eye on one Roen Deneith. While he keeps his distance, he is firm in the opinion that he needs to be quite near at all times, fearing that her life is in danger. He has gotten closer to Delial Grimsong, having apologized to her. The two of them have spoken together with Roen and seem to be acting as a team, though they try to make sure that they are not quite associated with each other as they know that Kage's race casts suspicions upon himself by the native populace. The two are investigating a certain woman along with [[Kiht Jakkya]] as well as the disappearance of [[Gharen Wolfsong]], Roen's brother.

A young Miqo'te had left the Chocobo behind, running away from danger in the Thanalan desert. Once Kage dealt with the dangers, he was left with a large bird whom he decided to take care of and care for. Shiron's down is amber, similar to the sunset with white tips. Currently Shiron has been at The Driftin' Sol after Kage loaned the Chocobo to a Miqo'te named [[D'lyhhia Lhuil]] while she and her companion were extremely drunk when they chanced upon the famed Grindstone Champion, [[Sounsyy Mirke]]. Kage was not able to meet the champion and Shiron has been at Driftin Sol ever since.

'''Zephyr:''' A smaller female Griffin that had initially attacked Kage in their first meet on [http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5431&pid=194060#pid194060 the way to Ishgard]. The Lalafell thinks that Zephyr adopted him after the two brought a dragon down together. The Griffin treated Kage in an extremely motherly way, and has recently made its nest out of the rest of Kage's clothes, leaving him with mostly battle-ready equipment. The nest is currently protecting precious eggs.

He’s taken to chirping with a feather in his mouth, much like how people will have something like a straw hanging out of the corner of their mouths. His white ribbon is tied around his tail, a small bow. His preference is Kage's head but has left it to Oak, the nutkin. He now perches atop one of Kage's shoulders, looping his tail about them.

'''Oak:''' The Nutkin who hopes that it will find a honey roasted acorn mother lode with Kage. Another companion, the Nutkin is quite simple in his wants and desires. Kage tied the feather to his fluffy tail. The feather doesn’t hinder the tail’s movements even if it might seem to be as it lays around it with the white ribbon keeping it in place. Oak's perch is atop Kage's ahead on top of his white beret.

'''Arturius:''' The fat cat that seems to just keep getting fatter even with such a small head and fat cheeks. Arturius is surprisingly fast when chasing down foods. Kage adorns his head with the feather, with a white ribbon headband but it simply falls around Arturius’s neck constantly. Surprisingly. How did the headband get around his cheeks?! He is named Arturius, a name Kage briefly took as an amnesiac Miqo'te. There is no way that Arturius could climb on Kage so he is typically just purring around Kage's legs.

Supporters of the Resistance or around Ul'dah could also become aware of her presence, and of her hand in crippling another cell in Thanalan.</span></div>
