Scarlet is an alchemist from Ul'Dah pursuing research towards reversing the process of aging and attaining eternal life. She is a Midlander in her early 40s, but looks unnaturally young for her age through the use of alchemical cosmetics developed through the course of her work.

Originally born in Radz-at-Han, Scarlet immigrated to Ul'Dah with her family at a very young age. Her natural talent for alchemy was picked up by the Guild in the city, where she spent the majority of her youth refining her craft. When her parents fell ill to a pox with no known cure, she doubled down on stuying the medical applications of the trade. In the process, she discovered historical notes related to the Philosopher's Stone and its promises of universal healing and eternal life. Internalizing her parent's death as her own failure to learn how to treat their illness and becoming more afraid with her own mortality in the process, she has resolved to continue this research at any cost.

Her relationship with the guild became strained due to her insistence to pursue this line of antiquated research that led to much of the public's historical disdain for Alchemy in the past. While the modern alchemist's guild has reinvented and remarketed itself as a reputable trade of chemists and pharmacists, Scarlet began to unearth the older, more controversial aspects of the career's history. Rumor has it that her research reached the point of stealing rare reagents from the supply house and desecrating bodies from the Thaumaturgist's guild to learn more about anatomy, leading to eventually being cut off from and blacklisted by the guild. She maintains that she has been treated unfairly by the guild's politics for her ambition and left on her own terms.

Either way, without the resources of the guild to rely on, Scarlet's research hit a standstill. She quickly found the means to sustain herself through hawking alchemical products on the streets of Ul'Dah. While capable of making medicines and poisons like any other alchemist, her work in sutdying how the body ages led to the development of alchemical cosmetics that proved popular with the elites of Ul'Dahn society. While financially successful enough to make a living, this was a time sink that did not provide the capital necessary to continue her research.

Seeking more stable employment to ensure time to commit to her research, she took on work as a chemist and medic with the Black Garden Company for a few seasons. During that time, she provided support for the company and its various clients, eventually traveling with them to Kugane. She parted ways with the company there to take the time to study with Hingan alchemists and collaborate with her foreign academic counterparts.

==Personality==
Scarlet is first and foremost a scientist. When it comes to her craft, she speaks authoritatively and confidently, ready to defend her work against any criticism. She connects well with other people who have intellectual pursuits, and is happy to talk shop or share the common frustration in the demoralizingly slow pace of science and discovery. She is genuinely interested in using her talents to help others whether that's first aid, potion identification, or teaching - she just prioritizes her own work.

Besides her crippling fear of death, sour points for her include her former relationship with the Alchemist's Guild, and she will usually complain and insult them as an institution. However she will defend the field of alchemy against those who still hold on to old fears over the discipline even as she engages in the "research" that others might conside crimes against nature. She bemoans the fact that she lacks any magical or physical combat prowess and relies on stronger adventurers to help her when she needs to take her work afield.

Her hobbies outside of research include exercise and nutrition. She uses her medicinal knowledge to brew teas with dietary supplements to keep herself as healthy as she can be. She drinks socially and tries to connect with people when and where she can.

==Background==
Born in Doma, with the name Isami Rokuyari, her parents were killed by Garleans at the age of 10, forcing her to live on the streets. After 6 hard years on the street as a child (during which the she gave herself the name Cerres Meadowlark), she was taken in by a traveling Samurai who could see the trouble twisted soul within her. He taught her the ways of the Samurai while they moved from place to place throughout Othard in hopes of relieving some of her pain. And it worked, for the most part. Cerres began to let go of her past and life a happy life, until her teacher was stuck down protecting her from a group of drunken Garleans trying to have their way with her, watching him die as she ran away in tears. This sent her into a downward spiral, filled with rage with one goal in mind: hunting down and killing the Garleans who destroyed her life more than once. Word began to spread of the fiery-haired Auri, killer of Garleans, which lead to Cerres eventually being approached by a wealthy, cutthroat business man offering pay for her skill. Thus began her life as a paid assassin, traveling Hydaelyn, completing contacts for those who can afford it.

She is often seen with a little black coeurl by the name of Curse. Not much is know about this curious little creature and Cerres never speaks of it's origins. It's been rumored the coeurl has a high level of intelligence and can open door and retrieve items of interest for Cerres.
