Torn Sky, or Tor for short as she may kindly suggest, is a towering woman and also one who hasn't neglected her physique despite an obvious preference for the magical disciplines. Her strong nose, dark-rimmed eyes, and prominent, angular brows give her a stern appearance that is almost hawklike, whereas the swept back manner in which she most often wears her white locks could be compared to ruffled feathers. The affect that Ul'dahn citylife has had upon her shows in the way she accessorizes and the slight hint of eyeshadow and lip-stain that she uses, yet the large occult symbol scarified on her forehead is an immutable token of her isolated upbringing. It is somewhat uncommon to see a Hellsguard born as fair-skinned as Tor, a trait her mother possessed as well, and non-Roegadyn may mistake her as a Sea Wolf at a glance. In the right light, however, it is much easier to spot the faint rosey tinge that direct sunlight tends to completely wash away.

Torn Sky was born deep in the volcanic mountain range known to most flatlanders as Abalathia's Spine. She chooses not to speak of many specific details pertaining to her childhood, nor much about any other time spent in the yonder crags of her homeland, but one can be assured she remembers it with fondness by the look upon her face when she ''does'' opt to share. It was likely as the stories of certain travelers say: full of clashing red-hided warriors, training from dusk till dawn in the murderous heat to either stay and defend the gates of the Hells or to one day descend and fight to dispel the evils of Eorzea. It is true that the one thing she will most often remark upon is the magnificence of the active crater near her village— that "its booming rumble was ceaseless and 'twas full to the brim with molten brew red as Rhalgr's rage."

Before her potential for commanding the aether was discovered, her father taught her to defend herself with the strength of her body alone as a prelude to the learning of weaponry. She diverted to join their native sect of casters before she could progress to the latter, but to this date keeps in shape by performing her father's routines very early each morning. Among the sect, Torn answered to three mentors, Laughing Soul, Dry River, and Vengeful Jackal, and worked toward mastering the arts that the guilds of the free-cities call Conjury and Thaumaturgy. To instill respect for the elements in their students, they devised trials that would allow them to experience their immense power firsthand. One such trial involved meditating at the closest traversable point overlooking the lava crater, where its temperature became unbearable even to a well-adapted Roegadyn, for as long as one could endure.

Her first destination was Ishgard, where she stayed for a time learning the ropes of society, but once the initial shock had passed her life shortly thereafter became a blur of overzealous forays into the new and unusual, both citybound and through the thick of the wilderness, from the unassumingly mild to the incredibly dangerous. Thanalan eventually became her home away from home, its arid heat actually being of some familiar comfort to her, and she drifted between there and the isles of La Noscea for the remainder of her young adulthood. Work supplied by Amaljina & Sons gave her the means to carve out a modest existence, her natural strength and hardiness for the climate enabling her to slug through the difficult task of excavation despite little prior experience. The know-how she would gain for extracting objects from the stone without damaging them would also become quite useful later on.

Her first official expedition was a collaboration between Amaljina & Sons and the Phrontistery, proposed and funded by the latter. The alchemists sought rare ore from the depths of O'Ghomoro for their studies, as well as any kobold technology that could be salvaged. The blood price proved high, however, and out of the ten that agreed to the risk of sailing to O'Ghomoro, only two would return. At the expense of the eight lost lives of their team, Torn and her colleague earned recognition from their Ul'dahn patrons for successfully escaping with the few bags of materials they'd managed to collect before being discovered by the beastmen. The disaster marked a bittersweet upturn in her career, setting her back upon the path toward actualizing her dreams.

It was likely as the stories of certain travelers say: full of clashing red-hided warriors, training from dusk till dawn in the murderous heat to either stay and defend the gates of the Hells or to one day descend and fight to dispel the evils of Eorzea. It is true that the one thing she will often remark upon is the magnificence of the active crater near her village— that "it's booming rumble was ceaseless and 'twas full to the brim with molten brew red as Rhalgr's rage."

Before her potential for commanding the aether was discovered, her father taught her to defend herself with the strength of her body alone as a prelude to the learning of weaponry. She diverted to join their native sect of casters before she could progress to the latter, but to this date keeps in shape by performing her father's routines very early each morning. Among the sect, Torn answered to three mentors, Laughing Soul, Dry River, and Vengeful Jackal, and worked toward mastering the arts that the guilds of the free-cities have dubbed Conjury and Thaumaturgy. To instill respect for the elements in their students, they devised trials that would allow them to experience their immense power firsthand. One such trial involved meditating at the closest traversable point overlooking the lava crater, where its temperature became unbearable even to a well-adapted Roegadyn, for as long as one could endure.

If she could expect the rest of the world to hold as many secrets as her place of birth, she wanted to take it in with her own eyes, to wonder at its every machination. Her first destination was Ishgard, where she stayed for a time learning the ropes of society, but once the initial shock had passed her life shortly thereafter became a blur of overzealous forays into the new and unusual, both citybound and through the thick of the wilderness, from the unassumingly mild to the incredibly dangerous. Thanalan eventually became her home away from home, its arid heat actually being of some familiar comfort to her, and she drifted between there and the isles of La Noscea for the remainder of her young adulthood. Work supplied by Amaljina & Sons gave her the means to carve out a modest existence, her natural strength and hardiness for the climate enabling her to slug through the difficult task of excavation despite little prior experience. The know-how she would gain for extracting objects from the stone without damaging them would also become quite useful later on.
