: Born as Garza Landfall II, the child was born to a fairly well-off family of Thavnairian merchants in Gridania. His family moved to the Shroud long before the Calamity, making Garza native to Eorzea unlike his parents. Growing up, he carried an interest in learning how to handle various weapons, much like his father. His mother, however, carried a strong affinity for magic, especially involving arcanima and astrology. Garza grew into his teenage years with moderate physical skill and a high emphasis on knowledge and it's acquisition. As money began to get tight, Garza began to turn towards books as a way to escape the larger problems which he couldn't fix on his own merit. Mostly books about adventure or danger. He took a liking to books involving pirates.

: Into his teenage years, his family began to grow old, poor, and sickly. With the merchant life not paying off, his family fell into poverty. With the money he had left, Garza took a chance, traveling to Limsa Lominsa to become a powerful arcanist with hopes of earning money for his family. Before even arriving in Limsa Lominsa, Garza's ship was attacked by pirates, forcing him to take up a spear in attempt to defend both his life and the lives of those with him. Though his ship was ultimately lost along with several onboard, the attacking crew offered him a chance to survive by working with them as a pirate. Much of what comes after is unknown, however, the name Redwing stems from his skill with a spear.

His family moved to the Shroud long before the Calamity, making Garza native to Eorzea unlike his parents. As a result, Garza knows next to nothing of Thanvnair or it's traditions aside from what little traditions his parents were able to bring along with them such as a few garbs. Growing up, Garza did a decent job in school as opposed to others in his classes. He was proficient at scientific pursuits and language, but lacking in other classes due to a lack of interest in the studies. He cared very little for books about history and mathematics.

His father (whose name he takes after) was a Limsan Pirate while his mother Amala was a Thavnairian archaeologist and treasure hunter. Naturally, they met over their shared love of treasure and money and after a few too many drinks, they brought Garza into the world. The boy was nothing special, it seemed. A typical hyur with all the right appendages. No tails, no cat-ears or horns. He was extraordinarily ordinary.

Holding in his mind the thought of his father being killed by tribal Sahagin and Kobolds. His mother stifled what might've grown into a full-blown hatred of the other races by teaching him of the conflict that existed between Limsa and the Tribal Clans. She taught him to accept the mistakes of others and to love each person like a sibling. These teachings would carry him throughout the rest of his life, shaping the choices he made.

+: When Garza finally grew into an adult, having mastered all of what his mother could teach from the Arcanists Guild and refined his lance-work at the Lancers Guild in Gridania, he followed in the footsteps of his father. He spoke to The Maelstrom and became a pirate himself. Hoping to make a name for himself and a bit of coin doing so. He sailed the seas becoming ever-proficient with his lance and with Arcanism, using fire elements to scorch enemies as he leaped onto them with his weapon drawn. It was this proficiency and the scarlet red maelstrom banner which gained him the nickname of "Garza The Redwing," as enemies who fought against him often believed him to be a red dragon which had taken the form of a man.
