Tenrou (テンラウ), also known as "Tenrou the Wanderer", is a male Highlander Hyur and is a player character from Final Fantasy XIV. Tenrou is an excellent swordsman who hails from Doma located in the shores of Othard. Since Doma's recent occupation by the Garlean Empire, Tenrou had sought refuge in Eorzea doing work as a sellsword.

Ramsus is voiced by Christian Sekhanan, Voice Actor and Creator of the Youtube Machinima "Final Fantasy Still".

There is a particular duality to Tenrou that is his two conflicting motivations in life: on one side you have Tenrou the student, the disciple, the religious, and the ever honorable while on the other side you have Tenrou the vagabond, the sloth, the careless, and the Tenrou that finds himself adrift in his own fleeting thoughts.

MEMOIRS OF DOMA Show text

DOMA

The island city-state of Doma is a haven for beings who seek spiritual evolution and enlightenment found off the shores of Othard. Populated primarily by Hyurs, and a race unique to Doma. There are many spiritual centers and schools of enlightenment in Doma, each one working in harmony with one another to find the answers to life’s mystical questions. Cosmic truths, the spirit of excellence, the ultimate disciplines and such pursuits leave little time for thoughts of imperialism; the Domans are extremely peaceful by nature which is characterized by the absence of Primals in their state.

VILLAGE OF THE SHORE

Tenrou was born in a village that was constantly preyed upon by The Order of The Black Crane, a ninja clan that have dedicated themselves to forbidden arts. For decades the Order of the Black Crane had been governing the village with fear but it was when Tenrou was 2 years old that The Order of the Black Crane underwent a change in leadership and their atrocities increased tenfold. There was an uprising in the village against the Order of The Black Crane that the villagers fought valiantly in but lost losing most of their men in the battles that ensued. The Order of the Black Crane, holding the village in a tighter grip of fear, issued that all the men in the village be slain leaving only the young boys that were taken in and trained to become Black Cranes. Tenrou's mother (Mifuna) and grandmother (Oshizu) was secretly calling out to the neighboring village asking for assistance. Of all the SoS messages they sent out only one was responded to but by who they didn't know and they didn't care for in their predicament any help is welcomed.

They agreed to meet this stranger to get Tenrou away from the Order of The Black Crane far in the outskirts of the village. Oshizu cradling Tenrou in her yukata makes her way to the designated spot only to be met with a Black Crane interceptor. Defending Tenrou with her all, Oshizu fought valiantly against the Black Crane Ninja but losing her life in what looked to be a vain effort. Right before the Ninja was even able to bring his sights towards the 2 year old Tenrou was cut down in a flash without ever being able to see his killer. The man who responded to the SOS, a masterful swordsman, had arrived just in time to save young Tenrou. This swordsman took Tenrou in his Lords Yukata and, before leaving, poured good Ale on Oshizu's body to honor her brave death before leaving the Village of the Shore forever.

Tenrou's rescuer turned out to be the famous Tenkai Seishiro VIIth, a master swordsman of the fabled sword art. Tenkai took Tenrou in as his adopted son where he raised him up to be his successor in the way of the sword never telling him of his childhood before that.

FORMATIVE YEARS: Sword of the Divine Wind

The Domans dedicate their lives to pursuing spiritual enlightenment instead of conflict; what kind of enlightenment is up to the individual. The mystics of Domans delve into many mysteries, pioneering the very depths of spirituality. While many of them devote themselves to the pursuit of peace and light, there are those who walk different paths.

Various Sects

The Domans have created some of the most remarkable martial art forms on all of Hydaelyn – a manifestation of their pursuit of enlightenment.

The Art of the Ten-tsurugi (Sword of the Divine Wind) is a blade style developed by the famed swordsman Tenkai Seishiro. The Art of Ten-tsurugi are principles founded on obtaining absolute spiritual awareness of one's self and nature calling forth the power of "Tenuparna" (The Primal Wind) which was described by Scholars to be similar to the Aetheric atmosphere surrounding Primal summoning by the beast tribes. In the long history of this sword style's existence it has only accepted one student to achieve the title of "master" per generation to protect the purity of the style and to keep its secrets but maintain its survival as well. He who becomes a master of the style will continue to the immortalize the creator of the style by taking on his name thus every master of this style has changed their name to Tenkai Seishiro.

This became Tenrou's ultimate goal, was to relieve his master/adopted father of his title to become the 8th master of this fabled style.

FORMATIVE YEARS: Tenkai Seishiro

Tenrou's master became the 7th generation master of Ten-tsurugi at the age of 25 and Tenrou, who had grown into an ambitious young man, had made it his goal to achieve the title at a younger age than his master. He had shown much promise even at a young age and it was very clear that he was going to become the heir to the style even by spectators and his master's contemporaries and master of other sword schools. Tenrou's path had been paved for him and there was not much in his destiny that seemed to contest his golden future.

At the age of 24 Tenrou had achieved the title of Tenkai Seishiro VIII and from there his life was at an upward trend.

FORMATIVE YEARS: Royal Guard

No more than a week after Tenrou achieved the title of Tenkai Seishiro he was presented with an invitation to become a Royal Guard, a job only given to the most esteemed of martial students. Tenrou accepted the job already bringing in much honor to his school and to the name Tenkai Seishiro. Being one of the youngest in the line up of Royal Guards, Tenrou had been performing exceedingly.

THE INCIDENT Show text

THE INCIDENT

It had not been long since Tenrou's master conceded and he was living in peace as his star pupil carried the glory and responsibility of The Sword of the Divine Wind. But while Tenrou was away performing his Royal Guard duties disaster fell upon the the school of the Ten-tsurugi. Tenkai Seishiro the 7th had been murdered in what looked like a duel between master swordsmen. Tenrou came back home only to be greeted by his master's corpse. As the way of the sword insists, Tenrou must redeem his master's honor dueling with his master's killer. Tenrou then requested that his position on the Royal Guards be relieved so that he may seek out retribution for his master. Tenrou's request was granted and he left his home on his mission.

Upon closer inspection of the body of Tenkai Seishiro VII it appeared that he fell to the very same sword technique he taught. With this information spreading the Royal Guards were ordered with the task of investigating and closing the case. They Royal Guards wasted no time as they immediately interrogated each pupil of the Ten-tsurugi school having learned that every student had alibis that cleared them. All but one: Tenrou. The arrest of Tenrou was issued and the Royal Guards sought him out with no reservations.

Tenrou, right before crossing the outskirts of the prefecture, faces his old friend in the Royal Guards and hears of his accusation for the first time. Knowing he had no convincing alibi, Tenrou presses his lips together knowing that all that was left for him was kill his two friends so that he may finish his master's retribution. Cutting them down with a heavy heart, Tenrou leaves the prefecture never to be seen again.
