Under heavy construction.

BASIC INFO

Appearance

At 6 fulms 4 ilms, Orrian stands quite short for an Elezen. He buries his lithe frame beneath heavy robes. His skin bears the typical greyed shade of a Duskwight, and sharp green eyes peer beneath long black hair that rests on his shoulders.

Characteristics

Occasionally, a small rat peeks out from one of the many pockets of Orrian's robes. This is Jix, a pet of his.

Personality

Cynical: He would say he's being "realistic" or "honest." Orrian is skeptical of everyone and everything until proven otherwise.
Introverted: Orrian hates crowds and smalltalk. Given enough time, he will likely end up saying something awkward or insensitive.
Cryptic: He sometimes speaks without proper context, as if his words have only said half of what his mind is thinking. He has a strangely poetic side that enjoys dramatic flair and dark philosophies.
Unenthused: He cares about little else except his own small area of interest. He doesn't try to hide this either, visibly expressing annoyance if he is bothered.
Perfectionist: He obsesses with the perfection of his craft. He does not want to be good, he wants to be the best, no matter what (or who) gets in his way.

Usual RP Locations

Not limited to, but good starting places to find him. Send a /tell if you'd like to meet somewhere!
Ul'dah - Steps of Nald (Arrzaneth Ossuary - X:6, Y:13)

COMBAT

Aetherial Prodigy:Orrian delves into the aetheric arts head first, leaving no stone unturned, even participating in things that may be considered unethical. His insatiable curiosity, obsessive study, and natural skill have resulted in one very powerful thaumaturge.
Physically Weak: Being a bit of a shut-in hasn't done much for Orrian's physical fitness. In a fight without magic, the best he can do is run (and thanks to Iona's escapades, he can run quite far).

BIOGRAPHY

Pre-Calamity

Born in Gridania proper, Orrian is the product of the city's blatant racism toward Duskwights. As a child, small and skinny even for an Elezen, the other children would often heckle and bully him. More than once, Orrian would return home with more cuts and bruises than when he had left. Orrian learned to enjoy solitude and escape into books. Tales of adventure , danger, and treasure filled his days, and he longed for a chance to have an adventure all his own.
One day, a Padjal approached him and gave him a book that would forge him into his present self: a book about magic. The Padjal must have sensed something in Orrian that the child could not see in himself, for he wordlessly passed the tome to him while the scrawny child nestled behind a bush with one of his tales, trying to remain unseen from all the other children.
The Padjal simply smiled and walked away. Orrian popped out of the bush, curious as to where the stranger had come from, and was instantly seen by several children. He took a step back and turned to run as one of them began to shout. The exact phrase lost itself to the wind, but it was no doubt something that would rouse the children to chase him. Despite Orrian's small stature, he could run much faster than the most of the other children. But as he slid around a corner, the call must have collected the attention of others, and he bumped right into a stout Elezen boy. Orrian gasped, and his books fluttered to the ground.
The Wildwood, a good head taller than Orrian, grinned. "Go back to your tunnels, gray-skinned freak."
Orrian felt himself hit the ground before he realized how he got there.
Iona C'mokkri, a Miqo'te Seeker with a personality as large as her Roegadyn step-father, didn't care much about popularity or rules or opinions. She lived a free-spirited life, reveling in a good scrap. She, like Orrian, often returned home with more cuts and bruises than when she had left, but most of them were because she had started the fight. And won every time (much to her step-father's delight).
So when Iona saw Orrian on his back and a mischievous Elezen towering over him and guffawing, it took only a moment before her fist planted itself square into the Wildwood boy's jaw, sending him to the ground with the same dazed expression.
"Wha..." the child muttered before his eyes focused on red hair. Red hair and hands balled into fists. "I..Ion..."
"It's Iona!" The fastest of the children exlaimed as she turned the corner, the other children on her heels and screeching to a halt.
"Let's get out of here!"
"Matron's teats!"
Several of the children gasped at the profanity as they skittered away. The Wildwood boy sprung to his feet and sprinted off as well, rubbing his jaw and holding back tears.
"Stupids!" she taunted, grinning to herself and sticking her tongue out as they fled.
Orrian rubbed his head and sat up, blinking at the Miqo'te as she picked up his books. She handed them to him with a grin. Orrian, afraid of being punched again, inched away and looked down, squeezing his eyes shut.
"You're weird," the girl laughed.
"..."
"I'm Iona!" she said, still holding the books out for him.
Orrian dared not raise his head. His words dropped uselessly to the ground as he mumbled something.
"Eh?" she tilted her head, her mouth twisted in confusion. "Come again?"
"Orrian," he repeated a little louder, lifting himself to his feet and snatching his books. He held them tightly to his chest and kept his eyes downward.
"I seen ya around. Get picked on a lot?"
"..."
Iona beamed. His silence was a good enough answer enough for her. "Well not anymore! Anyone who messes with ya is gonna get a piece 'o my fist! In the face!"
After that moment, the two became fast friends, and one was rarely seen without the other. And yet, somehow, they still followed very different paths. While Iona grew even more athletic and outgoing, Orrian remained quiet and fragile.
Orrian had consumed every word from the book on magic given to him. His parents saw his interest, and when he was nearing 10, sent him to E-Sumi-Yan to judge Orrian's ability. Perhaps he could be trained in the ways of conjury. Perhaps he could find a place in Gridania...
He could not.
"Your aether is strong," E-Sumi-Yan told him, "but it is not of us. You hold only the power to destroy, not to heal. The elements of nature do not listen. I cannot teach you."
With all possibility of aetheric training denied him, he briefly took lessons in archery. He hated it. Hated that those who had bullied him were now his fellow peers, hated that he was too weak to pull most bows, hated that he was full of so much potential but was rejected by E-Sumi-Yan...
The opportunity to harness his aether did not arise until Dalamud fell.

Post-Calamity

When Orrian was 18 years old, the red moon burst from the sky. He lost his parents in the Calamity, and he was evacuated with many others to Ul'dah. Iona fled with him, her family gone as well.
After their arrival, Iona quickly found a place in the city at the Pugilist guild. Her proficiency for punching things had paid off in the end.
Orrian hesitantly approached the Arrzaneth Ossuary. Inside, five Lalafell brothers eyed him curiously, smiling. They nodded in unison and accepted him as an apprentice.
The Ossuary became Orrian's new home. He studied tirelessly (and still does to present day) in the ways of the aether. His interests developed as he learned, growing more and more interested in mysteries of the void. Cocobuki, the eldest of the Lalafellian brothers, cautioned but did not discourage him.
Iona often visited Orrian and made sure to regularly drag him out of the building. No longer the boy who desired adventures, he would reluctantly follow along to whichever catacomb or ruins she wanted to explore. With Iona's strength and Orrian's knowledge, the two made quite a pair, and although Orrian would never admit it, he enjoyed seeing what artifacts they could uncover.

Present

Orrian spent much of his time at the Ossuary. He visited areas of particular interest on occasion, but most times could only be coerced to venture out by Iona. Together, they affiliated themselves with the Flame Yataghans, a military force stationed in Ul'dah, though the relationship was short-lived before Orrian went his own way.
With the promise of privacy that the Ossuary could not provide, Orrian joined the Free Wing Society in exchange for his services. They provided him a private chamber, which he keeps locked and sealed at all times. He rarely leaves.

RUMORS AND RELATIONSHIPS

Rumors

Some of these rumors maybe be untrue or simply stretched.
◢ Common Rumors (Easily overheard)
"Eh? He's that Duskwight who's always at the Thaumaturge Guild, right? Came here from Gridania after the Calamity, I think."
"He reads! A lot. He's always carrying a book with him. I wonder what they're about?"
"Orrian's a pretty quiet fellow, and there's somethin' ... I dunno, uneasy about him. Just a gut feeling, I guess."
"Is there a man under all tha'? Hahah, all I see is robes!"
◢ Moderate Rumors (Difficult to overhear)
"I see him getting pulled around by that red-haired Miqo'te all the time. What was her name, Inira? Something like that. Anyroad, by the looks of him, he'd rather be holed up somewhere than out and about like that."
◢ Rare Rumors (Nearly Unheard)
"Orrian... He's obsessed. A force drives him like something I've never seen. I don't think he knows his limits...or he doesn't care. I fear he may inevitably be consumed by darkness whole... To what end does he pursue such a reckless course?" - E-Sumi-Yan
◢ PC Rumors (Rumors from other player's characters)
"Master Orrian? ..Mm.. Not much I can say for now. But he is interested in strange things. But everyone needs to have some sort of interest, even if they are strange. And even if I don't know him just yet.. I respect him.. Which is something I rarely do.. He reminds me of someone dear." - Mizore Dorne
"One of my employees, and perhaps the most introverted. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that." - Lilithium Altair
