Gentleness can only be expected from the strong. The ( Benevolent ) ★It would seem that Hoshichou's kindness knows very little bounds. Hoshichou would listen to a stranger's woes but truly try to fix them. She's tender, delicate, assuring; she's a healer. She's the type to forgive, if not forget, and wears her heart on her sleeve. The ( Generous ) ★To strangers and friends alike, Hoshichou does her best to give what she can. Though it is not often she can give gil, she will happily give away the shirt from her very back if it meant another would have something. She will give free tea to those who cannot afford it, do charity performances, and heal people even if they cannot afford help. The ( Haunted ) ★An unfortunate past has left Chou with various unfortunate turmoils. The trauma of her village and Doma's fall still resonate deep within her. Hoshichou has severe survivor's guilt that has left her with high anxiety and depression. Similarly, certain situations trigger harsh panic attacks. This is most commonly seen in situations where people have wronged innocents, harmed those she considers close to her, or who have caused her pain that can never be healed. Though rare does she physically harm someone, she's held her knowledge above others, and bit back with words. This does make her a friendly, approachable, and gentle person. Her dark side is there but she has quite a bit of patience. The Spirits ( Doma ) ★Upon arriving to Kato's village, Hoshichou came to know the spirits that Domans believed in. Initially hesitant to believe in something akin to the ghosts of her home, Chou slowly started to welcome the notion in her life. Though she may not be as devout as others from Doma she still respects the spirits and pays homage to them. The Twelve ( Eorzea ) ★Once more, travel had led her to a new understandings. The discovery of the Twelve intially confused Hoshichou but as she came to understand their dominions and what they represented, Hoshichou found a fondness for them much like she had grown for the spirits of Doma. The Elementals ( Eorzea ) ★More new to her than the Twelve it has been explained to her that the elementals in the Twelveswood are not quite gods or goddesses but still a higher being. However, she doesn't believe that only one thing should have her respect and acknowledgement. Hoshichou is well known in the Twelveswood and Vylbrand for her talents as both a soothsayer and wise woman. In both areas she is requested to assist with foresight, herbal remedies, and more in-depth healing. Your character is welcome to know of her through word-of-mouth and seek out her assistance. In Vylbrand, she's more commonly seen by pirates, fishermen, and the sisters. In the Twelveswood, she's often seen by farmers, Wood Wailers, and her assistance is occasionally requested by the Conjurer's Guild when they're short handed.   ★ Underground ;; a group or movement organized secretly to work against an existing regime. Though her occupation is not illicit it does attract people in the undermarkets. Word of mouth from pirates has traveled into the Ul'dan underground and the more unseemly areas of the Shroud. Duskwights, those the Conjurers have denied, those who cannot risk attending more local medical shelters, they all seek out Hoshichou in hopes for her assistance. T H E    S T O R Y ❝Beyond the mists, to a lake not near nor far, to the shaman's hut, where the marked will be sanctified.❞ It had been the child's fifth winter. Snow had fallen and left the village in a winter wonderland. That day, none of the other children played. The fog had thickened that sun and left the forest nearly unseen. It the warmth of her home, Hoshichou stood upon a stool with a rather bored expression. She watched as her mother and father rushed around the home in preparation. The young child left in nothing but her silk sleeping gown and her fur shawl. Quietly, Hoshichou shuffled her feet awkwardly and she watched her mother whiz by once more. Rather abruptly, she was scooped into her father's arms and carried over to the heated bath. She was stripped and then set into a heat akin to her bed. There was little time to enjoy it as her mother took over. The young girl was bathed with little play. Long ginger hair was conditioned with scents of lavender and cherry blossom. Her flesh was scrubbed free of all specks of dirt. Hands were drawn out, nails clipped, cleaned, and then painted. Hoshichou wondered why one would clean nails if the dirt beneath would have been painted over. Yet, she dared not ask due to her mother's muttering. After her primping, the tiny girl had been yanked from the warmth, and carried back to her stool. Her father wrapped her hair and body in a towel. Alas, the outdoor chill still seeped through the cracks in the walls and caused Hoshi to shiver. A soft chuckle rumbled in her father's chest but it stopped short when he received a sharp glare from his wife. Hoshichou's shoulders drooped and she looked to the floor. The young girl had known better, even at such a young age, to find herself on the side of her mother's scorn. It was a side that seemed readily available that evening. When her mother returned she carried a traditional gown. It was midnight blue as a color base but there was light and medium blues that swirled around in it. Stars patterned the entire fabric alongside suns and moons. Hoshichou could name most of the constellations that she saw on it from her father's teachings but she still chewed on her tongue. Paired with it had been a gold ribbon that was to be tied around her waist. Her father removed the towels from Hoshichou's form, folded them, and then set them near the fire to dry. Silently, the girl wondered why they couldn't have set her near the fire. "You'll not dirty this," her mother both warned and ordered. "It is very old." It was also slightly too big. Her mother seemed disappointed in that fact and Chou could hear the whispers of a curse. Once more, the young child looked down sadly only to see her father enter her view. He assisted with properly pulling the gown shut. The golden ribbon was wrapped around her torso until her mother took it from him and tied it into a bountiful bow. He leaned back and looked up at his daughter while her mother tended to her hair. "You are going to be the most beautiful girl the geki has ever laid eyes upon," he assured her. The words brought a smile to Hoshichou's features. Though, it fell with a wince as her mother tugged on her hair. Another low chuckle rumbled in her father's throat before he moved aside to continue preparation. A few more evening bells had passed before they tolled ten. By that point, the gifts had been prepared. Hoshichou's hair had been put up into a thick bun. One braid crowned the bun while two more fell over ear shoulder. The braids were decorated with ceremonial flowers and beads. Her upper lip was painted black with only the center of her bottom lip to match. There were small dots beneath lined eyes and an odd symbol between her brows. Even her lashes were thickened with mascara. "Come, child," her mother spoke more tenderly. "It is time to go." "Okay mommy," the young Hoshichou agreed before she slipped from her seat. The family exited the home to the village lined up outside their door. Chou felt nervous butterflies build up in her stomach and throat. She swiftly cast her eyes to the snowy floors. A flash of movement caught her attention and caused her gaze to rise. The features of a boy who couldn't have been much older than her brought a soft smile to her lips. Though, her attention was stolen from him as her parents started to walk down the makeshift aisle. Hoshichou bowed her head and followed them. As she walked, some of the village members tossed flowers and rice, while others just held lanterns and murmured blessings. The children had always been banned from playing near the river. Yet, that night Hoshichou was led by her parents down to the dock. Both were rigid and glanced around nervously. Feeding from her parents' anxious behavior the small child started to look around for a sense of comfort. The boy from before had followed in the shadows. Oddly, his familiarity caused her shoulders to relax. She turned her attention back to her family as they stopped beside a canoe. The boat had a lantern to light the shadows and was anchored to the dock so it hadn't been pulled by the river's flow. Hoshichou was hoisted from the wood and set upon a pillow. The gifts were laid at her feet. "The river will take you beyond the mists," her mother explained, "to a lake not near nor far. You'll go to the geki's hut and there you will be sanctified." "I don't want to go," Hoshichou murmured as her panic arised. "I don't want to go!" "You must, child!" her mother exclaimed fretfully. "It is okay, my daughter," her father stepped in more calmly. "You can consider this your first step at showing your bravery. You are my daughter. You are chosen. You have the strength to overcome this. I believe in you." Her father's pride brought little contentment to the child's fears but she nodded her head, if only to not disappoint him. With that, the rope was untied, and the canoe was pushed further into the river waters. It rocked threateningly and Chou grabbed onto the seat with fear. Panicked, she looked around in an attempt to see through the fog. Yet, there had only been the shadows of trees. The ride continued in silence for several long minutes. It hadn't been until the village had been far from sight had Hoshichou's journey truly demanded her bravery. A plop in the waters caused her to look in the sound's direction. She studied blackened waters but saw nothing. A shrill tore through the forest and the child threw herself off the ship's seat and hugged the pillow to her. She tried her best not to cry and ruin her mother's make-up. Alas, she failed. The shrieks only got louder. Shadows in the mist whipped around her as she traveled down the waters. The lantern flickered until a cold wind stole even that from her. Hoshichou's heart raced faster as she tried to hide behind her pillow. The screams, the whispers, the shadows, they all fought to disturb the boat and its path. The boat rocked more harshly but she had been too frightened to tell if that had been what haunted her or the river currents. Oddly, when the mists had faded, so, too, had the voices and along with them the river's violence. The flame returned to the lantern once she exited the fog. For another mid-bell she journeyed down the river until she came to the lake her mother had mentioned. She was deposited into it and as she slowly rose to take her seat the small child could see the hut in the distance. She sniffled back the lingering sensation to cry and glanced over her shoulder. How was she supposed to get back home? The thought was short lived as she looked to the stars. A small smile touched her lips. Unlike the village, she had been able to see them better from the lake. The sound of the waters being disturbed drew her attention back forward. A lantern lit canoe joined her and within it an odd looking man. His dress had been different than those at the village but the pattern of his robe matched hers. A charmed smile touched his lips as he settled the canoe beside hers. He looked her over with a curious stare and then nodded his head. "Ah yes," he confirmed, "you are special. . ." Spacer G I F T S But by the stars she was blessed. Nymeia's Eyes ( The Visions ) ★One of Hoshichou's strongest traits is also a point of weakness. Though she is trained to control her visions there are those that are too powerful for her to properly channel. This means that whereas she can put herself into the dreamesque trance with the intention to find out information on the inquiry(ies) it has the potential to spiral out of control. In this situation, she'll often be trapped until the vision is passed. Likewise, Hoshichou can also experience visions that she hasn't triggered. The Elder's Tongue ( Foresight ) ★As the name suggests, these are visions of the future. They can be the near future or the far future. These visions can last seconds to minutes. Menphina's Turmoil ( Full & New Moons ) ★The moon plays a part in Hoshichou's visions. Due to the nature of her gift (read below) Hoshichou is entranced and bedridden from dusk until dawn on evenings that are the full moon and new moon. For that reason, I will not schedule meetings on real-world nights that are full or new moons. The Seer's Weight ( Side Affects ) ★The level of the damage done to Hoshichou can be minimal to extensive. This entirely depends on the type of vision she has, the severity, and many other factors. This can be discussed with the player that approaches. Yesterday's Tomorrow ( Divining ) ★Beyond her visions Hoshichou has a couple of other ways that she is able to assist her clients with understanding that of their past, present, and future. Alongside her divining cards and starglobe she also has a deck similar to that of tarot and she does tea readings and crystal scrying. The Dance of Menphina & Azeyma ( The Ways of the Astrologian ) ★As an astrologian, Hoshichou does use her Divining Cards and Starglobe. These objects are used to assist in healing alongside assist in understanding (and perhaps even changing) the fates. The Fool's Journey ( Tarot ) ★With slight name adjustments to make the deck more universe friendly, Hoshichou has the equivalent of a tarot deck. The fashion that this deck is used is identical to the real world deck. The Heart's Unspoken Truths ( Tasseography ) ★Hoshichou has a special tea set that she uses for these readings. She picks teas (or uses coffee) that are best suited for the inquiry. Maton's Murmurs ( Crystal Scrying ) ★Coming Soon! Miscellaneous ( Herbology & Alchemy ) ★: As a soothsayer, Hoshichou has taken it upon herself to try and help people with her knowledge. Because knowing fate cannot always help in the moment she has learned how to heal through both astromancy and alchemy. Knowledgeable in herbs for varying afflictions she once created salves, tinctures, poultices, fomentations, syrups, and familiar potions. Since her affliction, she has handed over her recipes to Maneshi, who now creates all the listed with her herbology guidance. Her herbal understanding is also helpful for those looking for guidance on proper ritual arrangements. S I G H T    E X P L A I N E D For those more interested in her sight I'd ask that you make sure you have read the disclaimer before you review this explanation. Celestial Sight ( Explained ) I will start off with saying that Hoshichou is physically blind. Her sight was taken from her in an attack. Though magic managed to restore the beauty of her eyes it was unable to restore their ability to properly see. It had been through that roleplay that Chou’s astromancy attunement was triggered and ultimately granted her the sight she has now. Hoshichou sees on something I call a, “Celestial Plane.” This may not be what it is technically called but it is something that players and characters can understand better. If she was asked to describe her sight she would explain that it is like being amongst the stars. Instead of seeing physical objects (like that tree) she sees speckles of lights akin to stars. These lights often don’t play much help in guiding her around her surroundings. In that sense, she remains very much blind. She relies on her “Seeing Eye Shroom,” named Bun, the help of others, or the assistance of her senses. Looking into her history, the interested party would discover she was trained by a shinobi named Kato. Kato had been very adamant about training Hoshichou blind (despite her ability to see at the time) because he believed sight was deceiving. It is through his training that she has managed better than most. What the celestial sight does do is it allows her to connect with things that are related to the sky and the fates. An example of this in action is Hoshichou’s tea readings. Hoshichou uses a tea set that is just as much a magical artifact as it is a tea set. After the proper reading ritual has conducted, Hoshichou will ‘look’ into the cup. At this point, the stars will shift around in her sight, and they’ll take on the pattern within it. This allows her to fortune tell. Similar, this is how her tarot readings and scrying work. On clear nights where the stars can be seen, and the moon is not at full or new, Hoshichou has been granted another gift from her attunement. For a temporary amount of time (the duration that the moon is in the night sky), Hoshichou is permitted sight. It only lasts a few hours (pending on time of year and moon rise and set). It’s also easily hindered. She cannot see if she’s not in the moonlight. She cannot see if the starlight is hindered (like in buildings, behind clouds, or otherwise). This “gift” was the most her attunement could “heal” her. Though not particularly part of her sight itself, her celestial sight has other benefits (or consequences, pending on how you look at it). On nights where the moon is either full or new, Hoshichou is entranced from moon rise to moon set. She’s locked in visions of the past or future (moon phase dependant) and cannot awaken from it. Her purpose is to provide your character with a multitude of creative outlets for you to push your plot-line further. She is meant to assist you and your story. The Kiss of a Butterfly ( Tessen & Tessenjutsu ) ★Tessenjutsu had been the art of using tessen (a war fan) as weapon. Upon initially being recruited into the resistance, Hoshichou became enamored as she watched one of her superiors wield the tessen in practice. After pleading for side lessons, she had been taken in by the woman, and swiftly devoted her time to training under the woman's guidance alongside the lessons being granted to her by her shinobi, Kato. Once she graduated at the top of her classes, Hoshichou received a pair of enchanted tessen alongside her yoshimitsu. To this day, she maintains the quality of both weapons, and hones her skills with them. The Fall of Stars ( Yoshimitsu ) ★Alongside being trained in tessen, Hoshichou's shinobi made sure to train her in the use of Doman blades. Due to her build and agility preference, Hoshichou took a likely to blades that were either small or thin. After she graduated at the top of her classes, Hoshichou received a pair of enchanted yoshimitsu alongside her tessen. To this day, she maintains the quality of both weapons, and hones her skills with them. The Laughter of Butterflies ( Throwing Weapons ) ★More of a utility than a honed skill, Hoshichou will carry small blades or shuriken. The Wish of a Dreaming Star ( Poison ) ★The poison can be applied to her lips (immunity) or applied flavorless to drinks. The poison acts to knock the target unconscious for fifteen to thirty minutes. In rare occasions can it cause death but only in the case of an extreme overdose. The poison was created by Maneshi. Dreaming Kami ( Ninjitsu ) ★As a ninja, Hoshichou is trained in hand-to-hand combat (mixed martial arts) and the magicks used by her shinobi counterparts. Knowing the proper mudras to commit various spells, Chou is proficient in close quarters. As her mentor trained her blind, sight is rarely a necessity for Hoshichou to be efficient. Menphina's Nightmare ( Shade Manipulation ) ★As hinted through various spells, as a ninja, Hoshichou can manipulate the shade around her. This allows her to stealth unseen or form a silhouette doppelganger. A Butterfly's Grace ( Mentalities ) ★Hoshichou was trained hard, with strict discipline, and little mercy. This hadn't been because her mentors were cruel but because Hoshichou adamantly resisted taking another's life. Instead, she desired to knock them unconscious and bring them to proper authority (or a higher authority than herself) for judgement. Of course, that made her not only have to know how to fight, but overpower, and ultimately subdue her target. Hoshichou remains rather calm and calculating. She would rather let her skills speak for themselves and does not taunt her opponent. To this day, she still refuses to kill her targets. The Star's Weight ( Side Affects ) ★Hoshichou is fast, and magically talented, but she's small. A chancing blow, overpowering, or otherwise just manipulating her rather small health pool can severely put her out of commission. Her greatest weakness is her ultimately fragile form. A C T I V E    R E L A T I O N S    (PC) Maneshitsugumi (Maneshi) Malaguld ( ♥ ♥ ● ) ( The Songbird ) Fate had an odd way of rewarding someone for their turmoils, both that to come, and that which has passed. Maneshi came into Hoshichou's life when they were both just able to walk. His father had traveled from beyond the fog, and though he had forbid Maneshi and Hoshichou's interactions, they continued to meet beyond his watch. When Maneshi's father mysteriously departed it had been Hoshichou's parents who adopted him (and his brother) with the help of the other village people. Unfortunately for Hoshichou's parents, it had also been Maneshi that slowly turned Hoshichou away from her dedicated role in life. As their bond became stronger, Hoshichou and her village's relations became more hostile, and nearing the date of her sacrifice she had been banned from seeing him. Caught, only to be captured by her own family, Hoshichou was imprisoned for her poor behavior. On the night of her sacrifice, Maneshi and Qasar had broke her out. They fled through the fog while their village burned. Maneshi remained in Hoshichou's life for years to come until the raze of Doma. After being separated for a year, the two were reunited, and once hidden feelings were re-ignited. With confession of their love to one another, they vowed to never be split apart, again. Qasar Malaguld ( ♥ ♥ ● ) ( The Hound ) Dogs are known for their undying loyalty and Qasar had been no different. Older than Maneshi, he understood the fear his father had, and also understood Hoshichou's injustice. Not only had he assisted his brother in seeing Chou but he also aided in their escape from the village. Family had become a complicated concept to the little Au Ra but she came to see Qasar as a brother. His loyalty for her continued even after they had been separated after the raze of Doma. Basim'a (Kaede) Jinkjahl ( ♥ ♥ ✔ ≈ ) ( The Drake ) With family forever complicated, Hoshichou's initial interaction with Basim'a had been when he was a Garlean shadow under the alias, 'Kaede.' He had been sent to infiltrate the Doman fishing village that Hoshichou had resided at. His mission had been to remove the shinobi threat and where they had been recruiting from. Kaede portrayed himself as a 'Big brother,' to the orphanage and grew close to Hoshichou. However, programmed to do his job, he and another agent ultimately took the lives of many children and slaughtered the adults that came to help them. Hoshichou survived alongside Qasar and Maneshi due to a prediction she had before hand. Shortly after, Basim'a had been sent out to Ala Mhigo. Hoshichou hadn't been reunited with Basim'a until a year after the Calamity. After she discovered he had been Warden of the Midnight Pearl -- an organization she promised to protect -- she conducted her own investigation and interrogation. He was deemed salvaged but their relationship had needed to heal far more than her removing his death sentence. Basim'a continued to climb the boulders she placed in his path until he eventually became her brother once more. Though that hadn't been the end of their relationship turmoils. After Arah Jinjhal -- a mutual companion -- had been captured, a loss of communication between the two of them led to him threatening her with death. After he portrayed actions akin to nearly leaving her to bleed out in the desert, Hoshichou's anger turned vocally violent, and he was dismissed from her life. The departure between the two of them led to her being attacked by a mutual enemy in the Twelveswood and left her permanently blinded. Since then, Basim'a has taken her into his home, and has proceeded to mend both broken spirits and broken relationship. Arah Jinjhal ( ♥ ✔ ● ) ( The Coeurl ) Very rarely had anyone's first meeting with Arah been pleasant, Hoshichou's was no different. Ever paranoid about the new blood, it took time for Hoshichou to earn Arah's trust. It had been through Evalynn that Hoshichou persued Arah more persistantly and ultimately earned a spot in Arah's mission to fight a group only known as, 'The Organization.' The more the two worked together, the more they came to understand one another. Arah started to become able to reach out to Hoshichou for advice and council. Likewise, Hoshichou had been able to find solace in the woman's shadow. As time pressed forward, and tragedies struck their lives, Hoshichou and Arah continued to pursue a friendship. Like Simi, Arah's become a friend that Hoshichou can rely on, and that trust means far more than she could ever explain. Simi Jinkjahl ( ♥ ✔ ● ) ( The Hare ) The curator -- leader -- of the Midnight Pearl sanctuary. Hoshichou had come to know her through her scholarly pursuits. A mother of three, Simi's compassion seems to know no bounds. Far more friendly than furious there have been times where even Hoshichou likely would have lost composure where Simi has maintained breathtaking grace. Known to Hoshichou as Basim'a's mate, Hoshichou initially felt the need to protect the mother. Yet, she came to understand that it was through Simi that Basim'a became the man he had been that day. The more time Hoshichou and Simi spent together the more Hoshichou came to realize they were rather similar, and it was through their odd similarities that Hoshichou saw Simi more than a leader; she saw her as a best friend. After they were offered a home in the orphanage, the four of them had been approached quietly to be trained by the shinobi. With a promise that no one would hurt them again, Hoshichou had taken Kato's offer, but under one condition: she took no lives. A challenge for both shinobi and genin, Hoshichou ultimately became one -- if not the -- best student that Kato had. Moreso, she became a friend, and then she became family. A year before Doma was razed, Kato had been sent off on an important mission to Eorzea, and Hoshichou ultimately took his place as the training Kunoichi. A year after Doma was razed the duo found one another in Limsa Lominsa. Though the two still care for one another, and despite their vows, they have gone separate ways in their devotion to their tasks. Sanzoku Daikyu ( The Hyena ) ( ≈ ● ) It had first been the fact Sanzoku was Raen that had made her nervous. Though, she came to adapt to her natural anxiousness with her own race. Though, Hoshichou started to grow unsure about him due to his mannerisms. One who she feels often switches between kind and respectful to sarcastic and nearing offensive, Hoshichou finds herself unable to quite read Sanzoku. Unfortunately, after Sanzoku's departure from the sanctuary, she doubts she will ever truly understand his character.
