Narcolepsy
Just going to do a quick summation of what it actually pertains to, in case people don't actually know! Narcolepsy is a neurotic disease which and shortens sleep patterns, and generally just makes them erratic. A 'normal' person will sleep for a long period of time, then stay up for a long period of time. Narcoleptic people are unable to sleep for long periods of time, instead they are forced to take micro naps constantly. Reason for this is they hit the 'eye movement' stage as quick as 5 minutes into sleeping, while a person without the ailment takes upwards of an hour. Essentially it's the phase where you get easier to wake up.
Now, the second part of Narcolepsy is what people often think it is! It's called "Cataplexy", essentially a Cataplexy is a rare ailment, which is often paired with Narcolepsy (Though not always). A Cataplexy is the sudden relaxation of muscles, this can occur anywhere in the body, yet it is most common in the facial muscles. Cataplexy can be a random occurrence, or it can be triggered by over exertion on an emotional aspect. If someone gets too emotional, they can provoke a Cataplexy. Now, in short it essentially is just the 'lax' of muscles.... soo, for example someone's facial muscles could relax as a result and give them a deadpan, emotionless expression as if they weren't paying attention. Or their eyelids might fall closed, giving the illusion they just fell asleep (That's where the confusion of Narcolepsy comes in!) Sometimes even relaxing the muscles in the neck, causing the head to droop, again, as if sleeping.
LONG STORY SHORT: Doesn't sleep for long periods of time, takes constant 'micro naps', and is prone to muscle relaxation, such as head droops!
Personality
Koyu is rather lax in personality and attitude in general, extremely easy going, yet rather lazy. Due to his condition, he realizes that it's extremely difficult to actually finish anything within a time limit, thus he has the lack of ambition to actually try anything. However, if he's not on a set time limit, or 'on rails' per say, then he will willingly attempt. Obviously, he doesn't realize or even know what Narcolepsy is, but what he does realize is that he needs sleep, rather constantly. As a result of this fact, he is always sluggish, rather slow, movement wise. In fact he seems to act as if he just woke up, near constantly, and sometimes that fact may hold true! Yet, even though he'll constantly yawn, stretch, wiggle, and snuggle against the comfiest rock, he is rather adorable and lovable in his own little way.
History
Childhood
Born into the harsh warmth of the Sun's everlasting radiance in the Sagoli Desert, into the Coeurl Tribe. C'koyu Tia was an average child, spending most of his time to himself instead of playing with the other children. From an extremely young age, he suffered odd sleep patterns. Not so much in a regular child's way, of waking up and causing a rukus. He spent most of his time sleeping, as if it was more of an enjoyment past time then a regeneration process. Sleep was his hobby instead of his requirement, and eventually it devolved further and further, until he could barely stay asleep for more than an hour. Troubling to the Elders and his parents, as they feared such erratic patterns would be a sign of corruption. As he spent many nights awake under the moon, and as a Seeker, that was much more odd then any daytime naps!
As the years progressed, the sleep patterns only got weirder, following no flow or meaning. One moment he'd be enjoying himself with toys, or friends, or doing his chores. And, as if someone snapped a switch somewhere, he'd have fallen asleep! Standing up, sitting down, sideways, on a rock, upside down, it never mattered! C'koyu had the perplexing ability to make -every- surface comfortable, the Tribe had often found him face first in sand, his butt sticking up like a white flag, passed out without a single regret. Only to bolt straight up back to reality mere minutes later. From his early pre-teen years, he had discovered his odd ability to find -anything- comfortable, using this to his advantage of course. He utilized the sharpest rocks as the comfiest of beds, ignoring it's harsh surface, as if it was merely a mirage.
Years passed and C'koyu finally hit the age of transition. Upon his sixteenth nameday, C'koyu was faced with the Trial of Manhood, a ritualistic initiation to prove the young to the rest of the Tribe. The objective; to slay an animal alone, and return the corpse to the feast. Ignoring the automatic disadvantage of his sleep patterns, C'koyu was never the best with any sort of weapon, be it spear or bow. He had more of an interest in Shamanistic Healing, and restorative workings, this wasn't an exam he had much of a chance of passing even without the inherent disadvantage...
The Hunt
Faced before the Council, C'koyu had no other choice but to at least attempt his best at the Trial. If he failed? Well he'd be cast out on a task to find something resourceful towards the Tribe. Be it a trade agreement, a new location to migrate to, and so forth. However, the task at hand was more important than worrying about what he would do if it proved unsuccessful. Gripping the offered heft of wood combined with twine, C'koyu wandered out to the desert, with naught but a flimsy bow, and a handful of arrows. Normally the Archers fletch their own Arrows, and craft their own Bow, however since C'koyu lacked the abilities, he was supplied with a default. More disadvantages, the sighs and sluggish, sleep heavy movements of the oddly short Tia trudged through the sand, dragging the wooden throat of the bow through the sand. Sheepishly wandering for a good amount of time before finally finding some promise of hope. A nearby Sand Worm, identifiable by it's burrowing method. One thing that C'koyu didn't lack was his native sight enhancement due to his race. However the laden, heavy eyelids which half concealed the true potential of his gaze weren't assisting much in this racial bonus.
Raising a palm to grip the haft of the arrow by the feathers, propping it in the correct position, just as his Elders had done before him. Tugging back heavily and aiming down the sight. Closing one eye to gain better sight down the line. Yet that single closing of the eyelid was enough persuasion, that a quick nap was in fine light at the moment. Toppling over to plummet down and poof into the sand, tossing up the grains in a small tidal wave around his already slender form. Snuggling up into a near fetal position, enjoying the warmth that the squishy terrain gave off.
Finally, waking up to meet a rather angry expression staring him back in the face. He knew this face, oh much too well. It belonged to his Father, one of the Nunh, staring him down in pure disappointment. Yet, C'koyu couldn't help but feel rather feather light, as if he wasn't actually holding himself up. It took a moment before the sleepy eyes fluttered open to gaze at his dangling feet, rising back up to glance towards the hand gripping the back of his coat. Raising a brow skywards, ever so slowly, before he was interrupted in the confusion, being roughly tossed into the unforgiving sands. Yawning slightly to spew out a mouthful of sand before glancing over his shoulder. Watching, as the rest of the Tribe turned their backs, and wandered back into the camp. No words spoken, as none were needed, the only thing he knew, was there was no more C'koyu. Just, Koyu.
Calamity
Barely even half a year out of his expulsion, the end of an Era hit him with the force, no one could have predicted. Already being homeless, alone, and technically rather unfit to take care of others, let alone himself. Koyu wasn't in the best of positions to be hit by this bombshell. During the start of the Calamity, Koyu was choosing his hiding spot wisely, having traveled from the Sagoli Desert and arrived at the tip of the Black Shroud. Koyu decided to utilize his small amount of physical prowess and stick to the tree tops. Leaping from branch to branch for protection from the Forest itself, as it had become rather unruly as of late. During his adventurous take on exploration through the thick woods, the sky began to rain fire. Destructive orbs of flame wreathing and belting the planet with ruthless assaults. Koyu merely watched, glancing up and sheepishly blinking, unsure of weather to run or stay put. So, being the lethargic person he was, chose the easiest option of not moving a muscle. Eyeing the sky with one eyelid propped open, the other shut. Yet that was mere temptation... eventually he gave into his desires, falling under the spell of his favourite past time.
The thundering crack of wood decided to disagree with his course of action, yet before he could fully realize what had happened. The wind was whistling fiercely in his already sensitive ears, filling his expression with the forces of nature as he barreled down towards the soil. Eyes fixated on the massive boulder which was waiting at the bottom of his journey. Scrambling back on his feet, trying to summon all his energy to get out of the collapsing trunk before he met his demise, or worse! Yet, his efforts were in vain, his foot had been tangled within the thick, broken array of branches and twigs. Finally the travel came to a stopping halt, as Koyu's skull smashed against the unforgiving surface of the boulder, for once, it refused to be a pillow.
Waking up finally, raising a clenched palm to grind the sleep from his eye socket. Glancing about to survey what had actually happened. The smell of burnt pine filling his nostrils, melted with the scent of decay. Eyeing the smoldering ruins of the tree that he had previously called a bed. However there was a bit of a light at the end of the tunnel, the fires had been put out, and by glancing up, it was already the next day. The sun, was high in the sky, beating down on the groggy expression of Koyu. Quickly realizing that was the longest sleep he's had in his entire life... Even if it was forcefully educed my blunt force trauma. Scrambling to his feet, he made for the nearest town, Gridania! Bleeding from the side of his skull, and extremely light-headed, and groggy. Making it half way to the city before falling to his knees and completely passing out, without even falling. Simply kneeling in the middle of a cobble road, passed out.
Waking up once more, this time in a rather squishy bed... the squishiest of beds as a matter of fact, much better than the sand lumps his tribe considered beds. No... this was Elezen craft! Gridania was encased around him as a matter of fact. Extremely identifiable by the woodwork, let alone that scent of oil varnish and sawn logs. Sitting up, gripping his skull with a yawn, rubbing against his forehead to realize the bandage around his skull. - He had been taken care of as well, curious indeed! And so, the Elezens of Gridania tended to his wounds, and eventually even taught him the methods of Conjuring, and he even moved on to become a rather decent White Mage! Even if he did pass out during class a lot, he still made it, and he's still there, never going back to his Tribe.
OOC Info
As the quickest of notes; I do have Narcolepsy in real life, I RP it because I understand it, and I like to find humour in it! Soo, don't feel all pitiful for me about it. Usually it's pretty funny, however having it also means there are times when I just get overwhelmingly tired for no reason, and I'll do my best to alert you if it happens, so you'll know why I don't respond. But as a warning, if I stop responding, I'm extremely sorry, but it's most likely that I passed out... Though I should be back up shortly!
Usually I hang around Gridania, sitting on fences and waving at people I recognize. It's what I do to cull boredom as I wait for RP to appear, or give me something to do as I alt tab.
As a rule of thumb, I don't normally initiate walk up RP unless I already know you pretty well... I get extremely nervous when I walk up and it usually provokes a Cataplexy... which I'm supposed to avoid anyways, sometimes I'll try it, and keep calm. Buuut... if I walk up, and then stand there and don't say anything... It's most probable that I deactivated for a minute.
As for Linkshells / Free Companies. I'm fully willing to join both, but I just prefer to RP with people in them before I join, so I know what I'm in for, but if the RP scenario is so segregated that I can't find any without either, then I'll most certainly cave and seek one out.
