Delivered by his dying mother to the caravan of a travelling magitek engineer as an infant, R'zao's only connection to his culture was the name she uttered with her final breath. Raised by the engineer, R'zao was trained in magitek and grew into a bright - if not unmotivated - young engineer. Preferring to use his talent in creating machinery to hunt monsters and beasts for gil, R'zao was forced to fully commit to his hobby when his adoptive father died in a freak accident. Now travelling across Eorzea with little more than the shirt on his back and the tools on his belt, he sells his services as a hunter and adventurer to the highest bidder while operating under his family name. And if he manages to aid those without gil to give along the way, that would just make his new life of danger and intrigue a little bit sweeter.

Cool, calm and collected, Pascal approaches most everything with his own off-kilter brand of wry humour and bored irreverence. Though he may seem apathetic or even lazy to most, his sharp mind, engineering genius and strong sense of personal justice shine through when it counts, betraying an inner depth of personality that makes him much more than meets the eye.

♦ MARKSMANSHIP - Attributing it to the wrathful divine entity trapped inside his "Forbidden Umbral Arm", Bastian is a very talented and experienced marksman. Having been trained in the ways of sharpshooting throughout his life by sellswords, bards and pirates, his exceptional level of natural skil has only gotten better since. No shot is impossible when Bastian is the one taking it.

♦ THIEVERY - Having spent his childhood picking pockets on the streets of Ul'dah and his later years serving with roving bands of pirates, sellswords and bandits, Bastian knows more than a thing or two about stealing things right out from under unsuspecting noses. Whether it's sleight of hand or grand larceny, if you want something stolen, Bastian's your guy.

♦ DEXTERITY - Though it has nothing to do with being "imbued by the spirit energy of comely maidens", Bastian is extremely nimble, agile and coordinated, especially given his age. In combat, he dances around his opponents, oftentimes literally.

♦ PERCEPTION - Though he likes to pin it down to having a "Blessed Eye of Divine Infatuation", Bastian is actually an extremely perceptive person visually, emotionally and socially. Calling on his experience as a master criminal, a seasoned marksman and an elder, Bastian has a surprisingly powerful insight into how things really are in spite of the delusional nonsense he usually spout.

♦ CHARISMA - Despite his eccentricities, Bastian is a talker and a charmer by nature. He knows how to get what he wants with words and actions and has perfected that knowledge over a lifetime of crime.

♦ HUNTING AND TRACKING - As a sellsword, a former pirate and a bard, Bastian has spent most of his life honing his skills as a hunter and a tracker of beasts, monsters and even people. If you need someone found and found fast, he's the man for the job. Just try not to get him started on how he gets it done...

♦ MELEE COMBAT - Bastian (or, from his perspective, the various ancient spirits that inhabit his mortal form) is well-versed in the art of unarmed combat. Though he prefers and does better at ranged combat, he can still give a lot of fighters a run for their money. He's also pretty handy with the dagger he keeps on his belt and his unconventional style of fighting can make his surprisingly dangerous.

♦ WISDOM - Once he stops spouting complete gibberish, Bastian can be surprisingly wise and knowledgale. Don't let his senility fool you -- he has travelled all over Eorzea and beyond. As such, he knows certain subjects like the back of his hand and is happy to share that information with anyone who'll listen to his long-winded explanations.

♦ COOKING - Bastian is a surprisingly good cook, even though the manner in which he prepares his dishes can be a little extreme. He knows his way around the kitchen and can prepare some truly mouth-watering dishes when called to the challenge.

♦ MUSIC AND POETRY - Bastian is a bard and, as such, he is well-versed in the arts of music and poetry. If his exceedingly theatrical and poetic way of speaking wasn't indication enough, he also possesses a notably spectacular singing voice and is an expert harpist. Though he cites his talents as being "blessings from the eternally shrieking souls of bards before him", It's much more likely that he pursued music and poetry to seduce women.

♦ STRATEGY - Convinced of his own divine power, Bastian isn't one for thinking ahead of any situation and rarely considers repercussions if he does. This makes him a pretty crummy leader when he needs to take responsibility for others.

♦ INTELLIGENCE - Whether it's due to a few too many blows to the head, creeping senility or his lack of education, Bastian isn't the most intelligent or mentally stable individual. In fact, he can be downright detached from reality at times.

♦ VITALITY - Though he has the body of a man almost half his age, Bastian can't always keep up with his younger allies in the field, which makes him poorly suited to prolonged strenuous activity.

For the most part, Violetta tolerates his antics and even goes along with them when so inclined. ▼NPCS   Elsa Daggerthorne (♥ ✖) - Death Do Us Part Elsa was Bastian's partner and later his spouse a lifetime ago. Together they raised their daughter, Stella, until both were killed in the Calamity. Though she's gone, Bastian still loves her deeply and misses her with every fibre of his being. It was Elsa who gave Bastian the coat he is never seen without.   Stella (♥ ✖) - Gone Before Her Time Bastian's late daughter. Though she was only in his life for just over a year before the Calamity took her from him, he still loves her more than anything and wishes he had spent just one more day with her.   Osgar Harper (♥ ✖) - Paternal In Crime The Hyur con-artist who found an infant Bastian abandoned in Ul'dah, Osgar was the closest thing Bastian had to a father and the fact that he accidentally killed him is one of his deepest, darkest regrets. Osgar taught Bastian all that he knows about being a thief and a con-artist.   Strong Zephyr (♦ ♠) - Taught Him Everything He Knows Strong Zephyr was the Roegadyn sellsword who took a teenage Bastian under his wing and taught him how to fight and survive without Osgar at his side. Though Bastian still considers Strong Zephyr a friend and mentor, the fact that he drugged him and stole all his wealth when they last saw each other probably means that the feeling isn't mutual.
