Basic Info

((WIP))

The Starke family once herded aldegoat in the brushlands of Thanalan, moving from season to season around the arid land.

Cameron Starke was sixteen at the time of the Calamity. He claims to remember little of the event and prefers not to speak much of it, but the family suffered greatly. Their herds were lost and many of the family perished, killed by bandits or wild beasts driven into a frenzy by the disaster. Like most smallfolk, those that were left ended up in a refugee camp begging for food and living in squalor.

Cameron, his elder brother Mikahel and their sister-cousin Ellie, were young and fit and restless, and wanted out. Mikahel's silver tongue managed to get them all hired on to a merchant's caravan. The head merchant, Palamu Lamu, dealt in meat and pelts, and the siblings' background gave them an eye for quality that made them useful enough to stay on past the first trip. While his siblings developed less violent skills -- Mikahel the art of haggling and mercantilism, and Ellie an eye for leatherwork and other trade-crafts -- Cam merely gained stronger arms, a steady hand with a spear, and scars from ill-advised bare-knuckle fights with the other guards in the caravan.

It was toward the end of their third year working for Palamu that the Starke siblings's fortunes changed again. The caravan was attacked by a band of Ixal outside Gridania. Though the caravan itself was saved, Mikahel took an arrow to the shoulder and Ellie fell ill to a poisoned blade. Fortunately, the Gridanian healers agreed to help the siblings recover. Unfortunately, Palamu was not willing to wait for them. And so they were left behind.

Faced with the task of working to support three, Cam made the rational decision that his skills would be best put to profitable use by joining the Adventurer's Guild.
