On the southwestern coast of the island of Vylbrand, under the shadow of ancient cliffs worn by the relentless onslaught of the Rhotano Sea, lies the marine city-state of Limsa Lominsa. Home of sea lovers and pirates alike, the port city serves as the ultimate naval force on the continent.

In the eastern reaches of the Aldenard landmass, home to vast, dense woodlands and coursing rivers, lies the forest nation of Gridania. Home of the ancient elementals, the citizens are ever wary of their wrath.

The bustling commercial hub of Ul'dah sits amid the desolate desert landscape of southern Aldenard. Home of the wealthiest individuals on the continent, people often flock to the city for the chance of fame and fortune.

Located in the Central Coerthas Highlands, the Holy See of Ishgard sits atop the northern mountains of Aldenard. Separated from the Coerthas mainland by a deep chasm known as the Sea of Cloud, Ishgard is only accessible by crossing a bridge past the Gates of Judgement and through the Steps of Faith. The bastion city-state is home to the mighty Dragoons and is ruled by the fearsome Archbishop.

Powered primarily by the substance known as ceruleum, Garlemald has become one of the most technologically advanced powers in the world.

Ala Mhigo

Within in the eastern sector of Aldenard, in a region known as Gyr Abania, the once Hyur dominated city-state of Ala Mhigo now rests under Garlean occupation. Once home to the famous lancer legions and the monk order known as the Fist of Rhalgr, the city state is now a puppet state. Ala Mhigo is infamous for its bloody history and for its monks, masters of fist-fighting.

Sharlayan can refer to two places: the first is an island city-state northwest of Aldenard, and the second is an abandoned colony of the same name in the region of Dravania. Sharlayan is known both for its vast stores of knowledge and for its policy of non-intervention, though some Sharlayans have left the city-state for Eorzea.

A small city-state in the once under Garlean occupation, Doma was razed by the Empire in the Seventh Astral Era in retribution for a rebellion. Many Doman refugees have found homes in Revenant's Toll thanks to careful negotiations with the Adventurers' Guild by Alphinaud Leveilleur and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. Before its destruction, Doma was known for its unique culture and relatively high population of au ra of the Raen clan, as well as its shinobi, masters of an aether-weaving martial art.
