After the construction of nearby port Vesper Bay, the fishing spots dried up, and the little income Dadani's family was able to make dried up with it. Dadani's father, along with other villagers, petitioned to the Ul'Dahn Syndicate for assistance, though their pleas fell on deaf ears. The family struggled to get by, having to rely on donations and scraps to survive.
It was some time in her early teens when Dadani's father was arrested suddenly. Heartbroken at seeing his family suffer, had had taken a desperate offer to smuggle goods from the capital, though in his naievty had neglected to do a thorough check on the cache - goods stolen from Syndicate-owned ships, to be fenced in Mor Dhona. Feeling as if they needed to send a message to future would-be-smugglers, the Syndicate had him publicly executed in Ul'Dah.
Unable to bear the weight of what had happened and deciding to pursue what he considered an honest career, Dadani's brother escaped to the city, looking to train as a Thaumaturge. His letters spoke of magical wonders, the likes of which Dadani could not fathom, until - like the fish in the Cescent Cove bay - the letters dried up altogether too. Dadani was perplexed; she and her brother had not been overly close when they grew up, but they had shared a respect for each other that had united them against the poverty they had both live through. It seemed so unlike him to cease contact.
Looking for an explanation, Dadani left home, heading for the overwhelming City-State Ul'Dah. Reaching the Thaumaturge Guild, she enquired after her brother, only to be told over and over that they no one of that name had ever been a student at the Thaumaturge Guild. No matter where she looked or who she pressed, all denied his presence at the Guild, eventually becoming hostile to Dadani's incessant investigations. Furious and devastated, she reluctantly left the guild, but has held a deep distrust of all magic and aetherology since.
Unable to return home empty-handed, Dadani spent most of her days on Pearl Lane - hungry, alone and looking for the odd-job here and there. Most often she would receive work as a porter for the storerooms of the Sapphire Avenue Exchange businesses. It was here that she stumbled upon a Garlond Ironworks technological shipment and became instantly fascinated. To her, this was a means to better ends, and she followed the shipment back to its source in Revenant's Toll, begging for an opportunity to apprentice.
