Biographical

Following the downfall of House Mavanix just before the Calamity, Elza vanished without a trace for some time. Cartius eventually sought her out and persuaded her to return to the Felstar family and help rebuild. Though her relationship with her father is marked by drama, there also appears to be an unwavering loyalty present as well. She returned to Gridania for a long time, her primary focus on charity related matters on behalf of the Felstar clan via a small band of privately funded mercenaries known as Sanctum.

Eventually, Elza was put into conflict with Aysun Demiir and Fenix Darkblaze due to her brother's drama with the duo. What resulted was a spiraling turn of events that revealed Elza's darkest secrets. The Felstar diva was revealed to all to in fact be the Garlean terrorist known as the Black Queen, who had for years been tormenting the Twin Adders with multiple acts of terrorism in the name of Garlemald. In a series of dangerous confrontations with Crystalline, Elza was eventually left with no choice but to flee Eorzea in exile and return to her homeland. She has not been seen since.

Name

Full Name: Elza Ashfen Felstar

Nicknames: El, Elly

Pronunciation: El-zah Ash-fen Fell-star

Origins: Elza's name originates from the name "Elysia," which roughly tranlsates to "blessed home." Her mother's last name, Ashfen, is the primary surname she uses despite actually being a Felstar. She started to embrace the Felstar last name significantly more prior to her exile.

Appearance

Height: ~5' 5"

Weight: ~121 lbs

Body: Slim and well toned due to regular physical training.

Hair: Indigo colored, straight, semi-long.

Eyes: Brown.

Skin: Moderately tanned, no visible scars.

Clothing: Usually wearing tight fitting leather armor. Never seen in mage’s cloths or heavy armor. She wears some upper-class outfits only when necessary for meetings and events.

History

Elza was raised by her single mother, though Cartius often paid secretive visits and tried to help financially when able. Elza's mother often rejected the handouts and even tried to reject Cartius from visiting at all. As a child, however, Elza relished her father's visits. This sentiment would later fade as she grew older and realized how distant he really was from her life.

Much of Elza's past remains known only to her. She spent her early adulthood trying to make her own way rather successfully through gambling and coliseum fights in Ul'dah under the alias 'Black Queen.' Cartius approached her several times over this period of time in an attempt to pamper her with his wealthy lifestyle. Elza, angered by her father's absence in her life and over his keeping her existence secret from the world, rejected Cartius every single time.

During a trip across the sea, the ship Elza was riding crashed due to low visibility from a dense fog. While nobody was hurt, nothing but wreckage remained and the ship's small crew ended up stranded on a deserted and uncharted island for two moons. When all hope seemed lost, it was Cartius himself who discovered Elza and the other crew members and rescued them. Little did Elza know that the entire incident was setup by Cartius himself to make him look like a hero to his daughter in his attempt to win her over, with some degree of success.

When Cartius was briefly believed to be dead, Elza was named by his will as matriarch of House Mavanix much to everyone's surprise. Elza's existence, after all, was known to nobody at the time. It was here that Elza had a front row seat to House Mavanix's downfall before finding out Cartius was actually alive and the orchestrator of the house's demise. She also discovered that she, like Cartius and Kylin, was in actuality a Felstar, not a Mavanix.

Enraged by her father's manipulations, Elza promptly disowned the man and then disappeared from the scene. Following the Dalamud incidents, Cartius found her and eventually persuaded her to give him and her real family another chance. She in turn helped to bring a rebelling Kylin back into the family as well. She has spent the last several years helping to rebuild House Felstar, her focus on charity work and strengthening the house's image through it.

Traits

Skills

Traditional combat: Elza is highly skilled in physical combat, a trend that drastically differs from the rest of the Felstar family.

  • Archery: Her skill with a bow and arrow is extremely lethal. She is able to hit a target with incredible accuracy and precision. She has been known to use this skill set even without an actual bow and arrow by using objects around her to create temporary bows and projectiles.
  • Swordplay: Should combat from afar fail her, Elza is almost as talented with a sword or dagger. While this skill doesn't come close to her skill with a bow and arrow, she has relied upon a combination of it and martial arts before to win battles.

Knowledge: Elza possesses a wealth of knowledge in combat arts. She's also well versed in handling a ship at sea as well as survival techniques. Contrary to her family, she possesses next to no knowledge on magic and even views reliance of it as a weakness. She is also very knowledgeable about government and politics, especially foreign affairs. In addition, Elza has recently become increasingly knowledgeable about fashion, plays, and some of the finer things among the upper-class.

Demeanor

Elza comes off as amicable to strangers despite being an enigma to most. She tends to be very calm and collective at almost all times. She has little problem holding conversations. She can also be seductive when needed, though she only purposely does this when she has something to gain.

Elza has become extremely passionate with her charity work, rarely seen doing much else. Though compassionate to those in need, she also has the same fatal traits that her family is known for. When put under the right circumstances and pushed far enough, Elza will go to intense extremes to get what she wants, using whomever and whatever means necessary. Despite the personal drama between her and her father, she is very much like him when it comes to getting her way. To her enemies, she can be relentlessly cruel and manipulative, finding ways to knock them down out of pure pleasure and the rush of power it gives her.

She has never been remotely interested in further exploring her sexuality and is strictly attracted to men. She is most attracted to hyur and elezen men, though can be charmed by miqo'te or roegadyn men under the right circumstances. She holds no attraction to lalafell men. She is most attracted to the 'do-good vigilante' type of guy.

Relationships

Family

  • Father: Cartius Felstar
  • Mother: Garlean woman (killed in Carteneau, no name ever revealed)
  • Other: Islude Felstar (Uncle)

Felstar Staff

  • Bodyguard/informant: Vertigo is the primary bodyguard and informant for House Felstar and is most often seen in the company of Cartius himself. The miqo'te is never seen in public without a golden mask, allowing her to remain a mystery to potential enemies and thus enabling her to go undercover with ease on various missions by simply removing the mask and dressing differently. Though Vertigo remains ever loyal to Elza, the two are not as close as Vertigo is to Kylin or Cartius.
  • Butler: Reeve Belacro originally served the Mavanix family for two generations. After the house of Mavanix fell, he joined House Felstar at Kylin's request. As the mansion's head butler, he has access to a plethora of family secrets. His loyalty has never been questioned though. He wouldn't hesitate to bend the truth for the sake of protecting the family, despite his strong moral values. The older hyur is known to be a powerful asset to House Felstar.
  • Sanctum: Sanctum is a small band of mercenaries who have worked with Elza for years. They remain loyal to her and her alone, their affiliation to House Felstar existing only through Elza herself. They work as a charity organization on behalf of House Felstar, though it was later revealed that they were in fact Garlean supporters using charity as a cover story for more nefarious deeds. Within Sanctum is also a goblin by the name of Zagadrix who once worked for House Mavanix prior to its downfall. Zagadrix became Elza's personal informant, much like Vertigo is to Cartius Felstar.

Friends

  • Abaigeal Causland: While she knows little about the woman, Elza views her quite favorably due to her having jumped into action to help with managing the 7th annual gala.
  • Bancroft Gairn: Elza met this man at the same time she met Gospel. She's still unsure whether his odd speech pattern is due to some sort of mental regression or the possibility that he's a foreigner. She found the man likeable enough and didn't hesitate to invite him to the 7th Full Cold Moon Gala.
  • Camille Everardi: Someone who would have potentially been a dear friend to Elza, had Elza not framed her as being the Garlean terrorist known as the Black Queen and nearly caused her to be executed by the Adders for treason. In a final heartfelt conversation between the two, Camille ended up forgiving Elza for her crimes even though Camille faced possible execution. For this, Elza came to care for the girl even more than previously and sincerely regretted her actions against her, though it had become too late to turn back. Both women agreed that they'd be better friends in another lifetime.
  • Cyrinius Cicero: A dear friend of Elza's, also hailing from Garlemald. Cicero assisted Elza in many of her schemes against her enemies, becoming a loyal and close friend in her eyes.
  • Gerik Aston: Running into Gerik at the Ul'dahn markets, Elza at first had no idea that he was her brother's ex-lover. Upon discovering this fact, she attempted to reunite the two by tricking Gerik into going to Kylin's excavation site. The reunion backfired, however, and Elza regrets her attempt. She finds Gerik an interesting enough individual and would love to see him and her brother reunited though.
  • Gospel Gestalt: Elza encountered Gospel for the first time in Fallgourd Float while she was attempting to plan the 7th Full Cold Moon Gala in a private spot within the town. Finding his demeanor, attire, and accompanying mammet pet intriguing, Elza wasted no time getting cozy with the mysterious man and prying for information. Despite his mysterious nature, she finds him an interesting enough individual and thinks positively of him. She enjoys getting under his skin. Elza is thus far oblivious to Gospel's past connections with her brother, and the two are only on a first name basis.
  • Razeiel Venaire: Elza met Razeiel by chance while leaving a letter for her brother at his office in the Avalon Heritage Museum. Razeiel, calling himself the "Poet," demanded to be let into the museum to acquire something the Felstar family supposedly took of his. Elza eventually allowed the man into the museum and, intrigued by his demeanor and way with words, secured a date with him to the 7th Annual Full Cold Moon gala. Since the gala, the two became increasingly close, eventually pursuing each other romantically for a short time. The Poet ended up breaking things off with Elza when he learned of some of her manipulations. Though she masked it, Elza was devastated over this development. So devastated, in fact, that her hatred for Aysun boiled to an explosive relationship with the miqo'te woman. Elza and the Poet eventually 'made amends' in a final encounter just before Elza fled Eorzea, making their love for one another well known even though they were destined to never be together.
  • Xenedra Ambreaus: Elza has high respect for this woman due to both her helping with the gala, as well as Xenedra's success with the Soliloquy Tavern.

Foes

  • Ariel Madaellyn: Elza came across the masked miqo'te in Gridania. While the two have met in the past prior to the coming of Dalamud, Elza remains unaware of the masked miqo'te's identity. Their recent meeting was somewhat tense, and Elza perceives the individual as an old enemy of her family's.
  • Aysun Demiir: Aysun, through a series of events, became Elza's 'archenemy.' Elza blames her for the Poet leaving her as well as Kylin's emotional breakdown that nearly cost him his life. Upon learning Aysun's being at the Battle of Carteneau, Elza was given even more reason to hate her. Elza kidnapped Aysun and attempted to pass of a doppleganger in her place, but the plot was ultimately foiled.
  • Eva Zelorius: While the two aren't necessarily close, Elza used to hold Eva in high regard due to her charity-focused mentality. Any potential friendship between the two quickly deteriorated though during the 'war' between Elza and Aysun.
  • Fenix Darkblaze: As Aysun's lover, Elza quickly came to detest this man. To help her brother, she at one point used her Black Queen alias to burn down his home and attempt to frame him for some of Kylin's wrongdoings. Elza also kidnapped Aysun from him during a deadly battle.
  • Turk Kalahai: While she never formally met the man, he was present at the final battle at the Mavanix ruins. Turk was the one who essentially destroyed Elza's artifact, bringing the fight to a rapid close as everyone was forced to flee for their lives from the exploding aether.
  • Yashaix Ki'lari: Ki'lari at first made her allegiance very murky, having a history of supporting the Felstars. During the final battle with Elza though, she revealed her true side and attacked one of Elza's friends/supporters, enraging Elza and making her loathe the woman.
  • Yssen Van: Having encountered the man at Soliloquy briefly, it took some time before Elza managed to remember who he was. While they are on good terms, Elza is very aware of his involvement pre-Calamity with House Mavanix's fall and knows that Yssen is likely no fan of her father's. Thus, she remains ever cautious around the man.
