GeneralHal is known by many names to the public, based mainly off of his actions as a gunman and a saboteur, as well derogatory titles directed at him. To others he is known as "Fox", or simply his real name: Halstein "Hal" Mercer. AppearanceWhile Hal prefers to wear what he calls his "gun fighting attire", he is no stranger to Alter Egos (his main alter ego being Arthur Balderdash) and disguises. No matter what Hal chooses to wear, he can always be identified by the sleek, jet black magitek prosthetic that has taken the place his right arm. To match the style, The armor on his left arm looks identical and serves a more defensive function. Hal carries a scar the lower left side of his chin that extends in part down to his neck and collar bone from a previous injury. His other features are rather plain, with dark brown hair and hazel green eyes. At 6'3", Hal is highly athletic and is a peak physical condition, a necessity given that he cannot wield aether as naturally as most others. PersonalityHal may come off to some as a polite individual, to others a naive and rude child, or simply the asshole on the street who likes to rob people and blow things up (probably the most accurate out of the other two). However he chooses to behave is based off of what he intends to achieve. If being more polite, means he will receive services and goods that he needs, then he will do so. The public facade is something he maintains as a necessity because he realizes that society operates on accepted boundaries and expectations. In order for him to achieve his goals, he knows that to a certain degree he must follow social conventions. Otherwise deep down, in his words, he "does not give a fuck." He prefers to do things alone, and wishes he had the power to accomplish his goals through his own determination and effort, but he knows that that is impossible without help from others. What started as random robberies in the streets of Uldah has turned into an obsession for him to reduce the Pearl Lane to Ashes. The reactions from the other citizens when they noticed he had shot innocent people had him wondering how strong their reaction would be if that part of the city was destroyed and there were a lot more dead and injured. He was curious at the prospect, even more so at what the fires would look like. To achieve that end he has recruited people to join him, telling them a false ideal he came up with on the spot about true justice and how corruption needed to be dealt with. He didn't care, he just wanted to blow up the alley. As time went on however, especially after having come close to death after his fight on a bridge in Thanalan, Hal realized that he must be more methodical in his approach. Even if he does not care about the fate of his crew, he still must ensure that their needs are met lest they find more profitable positions to be in elsewhere. He realizes that now he must lead the motley crew of individuals he has assembled. "All in good fun, and in the end I will have what I want- we - will get what we want. And after that, who knows? Maybe we'll just get what's coming to us." General
