''"You are a good man, Juste. You are as the Gods intended. I loved you then, as I love you now. Never forget... who you are." ~The Last Words of Jeanette Delacroix''

Juste Fantome is the product of an aetherial experiment created by Garlean "mad" scientist, Edis Krad Malphret. After enhancing the young elezen with the ability to further manifest aether with an augmented eye, Malphret would bend the captive to his own will. Mind-controlled and armed with a wicked spell-blade, Aunzeriuth, and his Aether Eye, he tore into the forces of the Eorzean Alliance. It was not until his final showdown with Ikus Agapor, Leader of a mercenary group, Lost Rogues, that Juste was finally disarmed. When he begged for death, Ikus instead held his blade high, and destroyed the mind control device. After Ikus carried the young elezen to their makeshift encampment, Dalamud exploded, showering the world in destruction and light. Juste would now wander Eorzea, seeking redemption for all the sorrow he has caused.

Juste Fantome is a Ishgardian noble hailing from House Fantome, a clan of heretic hunters that reside in the darkness and shadow to undermine Dravanian plots against the Holy See. When Juste's father, Rovin, suddenly massacred Ishgardian patriots and fled with the family sword, Aunzeriuth, into southern Eorzea, Juste swore to bring back his father to save his family from disgrace and reclaim his birthright.

<br/>Juste was born as a light-grey skinned duskwight in a small settlement within the Garlean Empire. He is shorter than many of his kind and sports long, light-blond hair. While he was born with two eyes as pale as the moon, his left eye was replaced with the Violet Eye, a product of Edis Krad Malphret, which allows him to manifest aether in the air, as well as store a great amount within him, making spells much more powerful and devastating. When he was younger, his eyes were much wider and happier; His ears much more pointed. However, when he was recaptured by Malphret in 1577, the mad scientist replaced his Violet Eye with the much more powerful Crimson Eye. The aether it absorbed was, at first, too much for Juste to handle, and it attempted to consume Juste, turning him into a monster. The elezen was able to contain the magic, but not before it distorted his face, making him look much older; his eyes more narrow, his ears slightly shifted downward, and locks of his hair turned blood-red. An ascian brand adorns itself around Juste's Aether Eye, at first violet, yet curiously, now has become crimson, and changed its pattern. Juste has no idea why it exists, only that it appeared right before he lost consciousness at the Battle of Carteneau. If fate were kinder, Juste would be considered a prodigy, as he excels at nearly everything he does.

Juste was born a light-grey skinned half-duskwight, half-hyur of House Fantome, an Ishgardian clan whose ancestry is said to reach back to Gelmorra. He is shorter than many of his kind and sports long, light-blond hair. His frame is well built from years of sword and martial arts training.

Juste is a quiet and reserved duskwight, often not speaking unless spoken to first. He prefers to plan his actions out carefully before acting rashly. That being said, he is quick to conjure a solution of issues that arise around him, and solve them quickly. The elezen rarely seeks the attention of others, especially strangers as he would prefer to be stand-offish first; his patience could be mistaken for zoning out or falling asleep. This being said, he is never to busy to chat with a friend or an intrigued stranger, out of politeness or actual desire, who is to say. In public, he dons a false persona of a simple adventurer looking for miscellaneous work in Eorzea. Juste pretends to suffer from allowing strangers to walk all over him, often not responding after being insulted or ignoring being shoved or kicked around. Juste also boasts a higher standard of proper etiquette, referring to women as "milady" and men as "ser." In fact, he places most people far above himself, greeting strangers with utmost respect. This is, of course, if they introduce themselves to Juste first. In this way, new people often view Juste into being more vulnerable than he is and don't see him as a threat.

In public, he dons a false persona: an intelligent student of magic who is loyal to his friends. He would feign fear to confrontation and allow himself to be ignored when situations turn stressful. While his intelligence is not a lie, him being a simple student of magic could not be more false. It is not often to hear the man laugh or smile, yet he will offer expressions of happiness around those he cares for. He is also nearsighted in his right eye and often wears spectacles that fall downwards along his nose, leading him to push them upwards often. He will often be seen reading from books and practicing magic to further increase his power. Even though he plans to fool his friends into thinking he is fine, his tell-tale expression of sorrow in his eyes are the signs of great pain in his soul is easy to spot when in the correct lighting.

To people who know Juste as a friend, the elezen will feel obliged to be himself. It is not uncanny to hear the man laugh or smile, and he will offer expressions of happiness around those he cares for.

''" I assure you, tis not my intent..."''                          ~Artorias Mason and Juste Fantome

::*''Black Magic'': Juste is naturally gifted with the ability to manifest what is known as black magic. His passion for the arcane lead him to study schools of Thaumaturgy, Arcanima, and Healing magics after Carteneau. However, when he was captured five years later, Malphret altered his mana flow, and Juste finds himself no longer being able to conjure healing magics. The scientist would see his ''weapon'' a phantom only capable of destruction, now and forever. Juste's Aether Eye allows the young elezen to cast spells at a quick rate and would last much longer before finding himself in need of ether. In addition, the Eye amplifies his magic, causing them to be much more devastating and destructive then would seem possible at his age.
+
::*''Blade'': Juste has been taught to wield a sword ever since he was a boy. It was mandatory for children of the Fantome blood to be proficient with at least one sword art until the weapon becomes as natural as part of the body. Juste is well practiced in short-sword, long-sword, and heavy two-handed greatswords, the latter being vital to wield the Fantome's family sword, Aunzeriuth, the blade carried down from generation to generation. Until his father Rovin hands the sword over, Juste is familiar with his long sword, Segura, named after the ancestor of his bloodline.

::*''Archery'': Before the Empire captured his clan, Juste's father, Guillaume, was a skilled archer and taught Juste how to also shoot an arrow in his younger years. Juste proved to be a natural. He later was forced to pick up his bow again after being brainwashed and becoming an assassin for SECT 7. He prefers to kill enemies quickly, even as he was brainwashed, as he saw the idea of a slow and painful death too cruel. It was Artorias Mason who would cut his bow in half and giving Juste an excuse to end his archery career. He would only draw the bow string again to teach the young lalafel, Leilani Leilai to be a better archer.

::*''Blade'': Juste was forced to train in the art of a blade for 5 years within the Garlean forces. He became a truly graceful sword-fighter for one so young. Juste was often sent to kill targets and then memory wiped, leading him to be cold and ruthless. Malphret ridding him of any remorse or sorrow, the young elezen would be unable to feel for the lives he had taken. Juste knows how to kill a man with a sword much quicker then most; the boy often casting magic with one hand while attacking with his blade in another. After the battle of Carteneau, he smashed his blade into pieces and scattered them across Mor Dhona, vowing never to pick up a sword again. He could not, however, make the same promise to the wielding of black magic.

::*''Gun'': For a time, Juste did train with magitek pistols. He was even given one to use at Carteneau. Juste would fire into the frontlines before tossing the pistol down and returning to his blade and magic. The gun, while obviously exciting to wield, felt almost like cheating to Juste. He has not since yearned for the honourless weapon to return.
+
::*''Black Magic'': Juste's Aether Eye allows the young elezen to cast spells at a quick rate and would last much longer before finding himself in need of aether. In addition, the Eye amplifies his magic, causing them to be much more devastating and destructive then would seem possible at his age. Alongside other martial arts, it was magic that came most natural to him, and he would say that such magics are his favorite method of fighting. This was one of the first signs that Juste would prove to take Rovin's place as head of the family and take upon the Aunzeriuth sword.

::*''White Magic'': Juste's aetherial power would allow him to cast both white and dark magic, almost simultaneously. Juste would seek out the art of healing magic to attempt to begin to atone for his past sins. Malphret would put an end to it after installing the Crimson Eye, which would turn any of Juste's healing spells into a violent surge of wicked energy. Try as he might, healing himself would cause more harm to him, the same result occurring if the elezen would attempt to heal others.
+
::*''Archery'': Before the plains of Coerthas became conquered by ice and snow, Juste would found solace from his noble duties in hunting and tracking in the wild. During which, he taught himself to use a bow and arrow. While he takes some pride in being proficient at aimed shots at large targets, Juste is not among the first pick for a combat archer.

''"You have no name. You have no past. You are my killer. You will paint the world in an image of my own! You are... my Phantom."'' ~Edis Krad Malphret "The Mad"

::*'''Phantom Eleven''': Five years after Carteneau, Juste was approached by Garleans in disguise, ordering his return to them. When Juste attempted to kill them, they revealed they had set a trap for his new friends that he had grown close to. If he did not surrender himself, they would be killed. Juste had no choice other than to leave with them, when he was instead ambushed by a mysterious group of hooded men with curved blades. While the worked for a darker puppet master, they called themselves the Choir of Malice, or to Juste, SECT 7. Malphret had appeared as well, claiming to no longer represent the Empire after their failure at Carteneau, and sealed Juste's memories deep into his mind. After installed the young man with the new Crimson Eye, he was surprised to find that Juste was able to seal his ability to cast magic before he was captured. While Malphret sought a way to break the seal, Juste, known only by his callsign ''Phantom Eleven'', would carry out assassinations or captures of targets known as ''Shard-Bearers'' using his latent skills with a bow and arrow.

::*'''Unworthy Wanderer''': The name given to the mysterious hooded mage who appears to assist the peoples of Eorzea, be they in peril. Juste offers aid to attempt attonement for all the sorrow he has caused in the past, yet, still thinking himself unworthy, he gives the grateful people no name and vanishes after saving them. He would often appear in a hooded robe that covers most of his face, and merely stating he is "unworthy" of praise after the battle is won, accidentally earning his title.

He is quite wary of Juste, especially after finding out that the man hails from the Garlean Empire, yet understood when the man gave his life to protect them. The grimoire restored all of Juste's memories and Garrett and Juste became close allies; the elezen holding great trust in him. Juste would later return the favor when the hyur would begin to lose himself to The Black, a curse bestowed by the interaction with black magics. He did everything he could to halt the Black from taking the man over, ultimately sacrificing a majority of his aether to keep Garrett pure. The miqo'te is also quite the cook. WIth his sudden disappearance after going off to assist the Maelstrom, Juste would take steps to locate the miqo'te before tragedy befalls him.

While that man can be seen to be rather rude and unsympathetic, he does think fondly of those closest to him, whenever it deems convenient. Juste saved the man's life from two garlean soldiers when they ambushed the man and his comrades.

::*'''[[Leilani Leilai]]''': A young lalafel bard who lives with her family in Gridania. She was one of Juste's last targets after he sought the ''shard bearers,'' yet he could not bring himself to kill her. She is always very quick to apologize for interruptions made by her, and believes that she is unworthy as a person and disposable; lacking any real future. She hides great anger in her soul, yet seems to have taken an unknown interest in Juste. This interest has slowly grown to a subtle romance, of which Juste knows. The elezen would fight feelings for her as well, attempting to tell her what he really feels. After betraying Jeanette, after betraying everyone, how could he love again? In an instance where he heard of her capture, he rushed to action to save her. When Juste finally found Suri barely alive in the fields outside Limsa, he pulled forth painful magic to heal her and carried the girl to Gridania where healers could watch over her. She would vanish shortly afterwards before Juste could tell her the truth of the feelings he bore. When he saw her again, she made it clear that he must live his own life, apart from hers. She would go to meet her death and Juste's heart broke a second time. The elezen would dash his feelings aside, wanting to never be hurt by love again. It was a feeling that brought only pain, and his heart could not bear any more.

During a battle with the hooded magus, Rovin, D'Andre's page was set aflame and lost to Juste. The elezen can still summon an emerald carbuncle. . . but refuses to name it again out of honour of losing his brother's soul.

::*''Toby-Luc'': A topaz carbuncle. Toby-Luc contains the soul of Juste's best friend who was experimented on within the Imperial labs. Jeanette was able to capture his soul quickly and seal it within an aetherial carbuncle. He is strong-willed and rather arrogant, putting himself in the enemies face and wailing on them until they fall. Even still, Toby-Luc cares greatly for Juste and after being summoned, aided in the young elezen's escape from Imperial custody.

After Malphret tried to dispose of him, he was saved by Juste entirely by accident. Zorpit latched onto the nearest font of aether (Juste) and used its power to make it look like he exploded. Zorpit later appeared in Juste's cell, thanking the man and pledging his loyalty to him. Zorpit is a scatter-brain and quite loud, but tries to do what little he can for the elezen.

::*''Zagnor'': A giant ahriman that was pulled from the void by Edis Krad Malphret, and apparently Zorpit's older brother. After fleeing from Malphret when the madman tried to cut his eye out, he later came back to save his counterpart, Zorpit, who he witnessed being "saved" by Juste. He would later prove essential in providing Juste transportation since chocobos seem frightened by the elezen's dark aura. Zagnor was able to take Juste away from the plains of Carteneau after the moon's explosion rendered him unconscious. Shortly afterwards, the aetherial rift made them vanish from the world and Zorpit and Zagnor would wait patiently in the void before Juste would be able to bring them back again. Zagnor is not much of a talker, unlike his "brother", and is rather calm for his kind.

=== The Calm ===
+
''"So it ends now, Aunzeriuth, with this blade, I cast you into the Void forever, that your power will be shattered. I smite thee for the sake of Light...!"''

The curious magitek researcher Diane Alexander happened by the hunter Guillaume Fantome by utter accident. During one of her expeditions to an aetherial site, the hyuran woman's caravan came under attack by rebels believing her cargo to be weapons for the Garlean Empire. The duskwight, Guillaume, was hunting for game nearby and sprinted towards the sounds of battle. He found the woman fleeing the assault, firing a magitek pistol behind her, when their eyes met. Diane's first reaction was to aim the pistol at the elezen. He aimed his bow back at her, yet strangely, something bid him to lower his weapon. He beckoned to her, telling her that all would be well if she followed. Taking the chance, the imperial stowed away the gun and followed Guillaume to safety. Neither one could understand why they trusted the other, but they knew there was something special between them. Guillaume would assist her in returning to the laboratory dorms she resided in and faded back into the night. Diane returned to her employer, Edis Krad Malphret who appeared worried beyond belief, but did not inquire to how she came to return from the rebel attack. The scientist was much too concerned with trying to impress Nael Van Darnus with a new weapon for the future conquering of territory not yet under Imperial rule. Rumors had been spreading that the once kind, yet determined garlean had begun experimenting on himself causing his mind to constantly seem elsewhere of late. It was because of this that Diane found herself able to sneak away in the forests where Guillaume would find her. The two would chat often about where they came from, of Guillaume's late wife Julie Anne and their son D'Andre, and Diane's magitek research. Although the two were from two different worlds, love won out in the end, and Diane decided one night to abandon her life of creating weapons of destruction for a life of love and peace with Guillaume, far from her Imperial labs in a cavern community known as The Calm. It wasn't long until their son Juste was born. He was small for an elezen, even as a boy. His hair a light gold and his eyes like pearls. The boy hungered for knowledge like his mother, and wasn't afraid to put it into action. His half-brother D'Andre watched over Juste, and helped the smaller elezen become more acquainted with their commune, whom had been wary of the mating of elezen and hyur. Juste was, at first, shunned from many of the children, as he was "half-imperial" they believed he would spontaneously decide to attack them when their backs were turned. It was the wild and long-eared elezen Toby-Luc Galivier that decided it was his duty to teach Juste the ways of the world, and take the boy under his wing. The irony of this was that Toby-Luc was the same age as Juste, and the smaller elezen was obviously more intelligent than the former. Yet they became thick as thieves regardless. While Juste and Toby-Luc quickly became known throughout the cavern community within the woods, Juste happened to grab the notice of a young girl named Jeanette Delacroix. The girl was fond of a grimoire that had been in her family's possession for generations and often practiced incantations from it. Juste drew closer to the girl, at first interested in the magic, yet soon their bond began to form. While so young, Juste and Jeanette did show a fondness for one another, the small elezen often "saving" her from chores or watching the stars with her. He swore to always protect her... and perhaps when they were older... they could become married.

=== The Storm ===

Edis Krad Malphret, now known as ''Malphret the Mad'', had driven himself insane with his own aetherial experimentations on his mind. In his insanity, he took flames to the forest, taking out his frustration on the rebels that lived somewhere within. The soldiers he took with him came across The Calm, and Malphret found himself furious that one of his own researchers had defected (He had not noticed Diane's entire ten-year absence). His first order was to burn the entire village, and he shot Diane and Guillaume as they attempted to shield their sons. He turned the magitek pistol on the boys and Juste, in a cry of anger, screamed at the madman. Aether flowed forward and threw the garlean backward by several feet, and Malphret ordered an immediate ceasefire. Standing again, the madman thought of a better idea of how to use the village residents. If a boy has so much power, why not the rest? Malpret seized them all and burned The Calm to the ground, taking his captives back to his labs. His first attempt was to make them into servants of the Empire, promising each individual the release of the rest of the clan if they complied, and many did. Juste was no exception, he would do anything to save the rest of his clan. He would fight better, faster than the rest, and his skill with magic was unmatched. The wickedness of Malphret knew no bounds however, and he tested the elezen harder and harder over the course of five years. And still he fought for his brother D'Andre, for his best friend Toby-Luc, and his love Jeanette. He had even been able to find a way to craft a small ring from metal in a scrap heap and carve the word ''Forever'' around its band. When Juste had turned fifteen, he made a gift of the ring to the girl, as hope of their escape seemed false. It was a promise, that no matter what happened, they would be eternally together. All the while, Juste feared what he was becoming and often spoke of his unworthiness to Jeanette. The girl loved him with all her heart however, Juste being the single reason she had continued to live. Three more years passed and with Nael Van Darnus's campaign to conquer Eorzea becoming nearer, Malphret decided to put his final plan into effect. His greatest invention, the Aether Eye, could be synched into a person and allow them to draw in more aether than a normal being could. While the death ratio was in the 80% range, the madman continued to test its capabilities on select number of his captives. He commissioned for his best slave warrior, Juste to be next for the experiment. The boy struggled and fought, all in vain. Malphret plucked the boy's left eye from his head and installed the Aether Eye. In a sudden rush of aether, the boy was almost consumed by his own new power. As fate would dictate, Juste was able to control the flow in the end. Malphret, satisfied with his work, installed another of his magitek designs, the Will-Circle, around the boy's neck. Doubling as a shock-collar and a mind control device, Malphret busied himself by making the boy slay other slaves in the complex. When Malphret had a dozen other beings that had been able to control the Aether Eye, the garlean scientist fired up his airship that would carry him and his collection of Aether-Eye soldiers to the frontlines to Eorzea, and they would fly into the Alliance's frontlines and strike from within. Before take-off, Malphret instructed Juste to kill every last member of his clan against the boy's will. Unable to control his actions, he mindlessly slaughtered everyone he had grown up with, even his beloved Jeanette, who embraced him still, with his sword in her chest. She whispered her undying love, forgiveness, and goodbyes into his ear, and fell... never to rise.

=== The Phantom ===

Juste was eighteen when he stepped off the gangplank of Malphret's airship, ''Killer Rose'', onto the plains of Carteneau. He and the thirteen other so-named ''Phantoms'' took independent linkpearls and deployed themselves throughout the Garlean forces. His directive was to destroy the forces of the Eorzean Alliance. Juste slowly walked outward, not only hearing his metal boots click against the cold earth, but feeling them impact the ground. There is screaming in the distance, some would consider it a battle cry amidst a sea of metal embraces. He could feel the aether rush to his eye as he averts his gaze upward, seeing the alliance soldiers rush his way. His wicked blade almost jumped its way forward, the elezen leaping forward and twirling the blade like that of a graceful baton, sending ribbons of blood into the air. No screams then. It was too quick, after all. Juste brushes the golden hair out of his eyes and thrusts the sword forward, directly into another soldier's eye, bringing his revenge to a bitter end. His blade occupied, he would raise his other hand, flames waltzing around his arm and darting into another enemy's chest. There it was, his screams. Juste feeling he had earned them. But these men were not his enemy. Somewhere deeper within him he must have known that. Yet, it was no choice of his. If these men had to die so he could free his family, so be it. And if he would be damned so he could see Jeanette again, then he would let death lead him into the abyss when his soul expired. Another soldier approached, yet Juste was ready, faster. Stab, tear, blast, ignite, twirl, faster, parry, an opening, advantage, faster, faster, another, parry, clash, clash, clash, faster, faster, faster! He would be surrounded and never feel stress. He would nearly be impaled and never succomb to fear. He was -their- nightmare, and he would play his part. It was not until his directive suddenly changed. His new target was a company causing massive damage to the left infantry flank. A mercenary company known as the ''Lost Rogues''. Juste rushed to the mercenaries and tore his way into their formation. It was a surprise when suddenly, there was a hyur that was able to block and parry all of Juste's attacks. Ikus Agapor, leader of the mercenaries pushed the elezen back and eventually disarmed the boy with a elegant counter riposte. But, instead of killing him, Ikus flipped the blade to the dull end and smashed the Will-Circle, shattering Malphret's control over Juste. The elezen fainted and Ikus brought the boy back to their temporary trench. Blades at his throat, the ''Rogues'' assaulted the boy with questions on the Garlean's battle plans and infantry line-up. When the elezen was all too happy to spill the information against the nation that had made his happy life hell, Ikus understood the boy was no garlean patriot. He spoke of his daughter Kelvena, and how he wished to see her again. Juste promised him that he would use his power to help drive back the garleans... yet suddenly there was a giant road from overhead and the earth shook. Before the mercenaries could look out over the trench, dust soared past them, blinding all sight. There was a giant, ear-splitting explosion followed by an intense and blood-chilling roar. Suddenly the sky was alight with flame and destruction. Suddenly there was a great flash of light... and Juste's mind fell into nothingness.

=== The Peace ===

When Juste awoke, he was in the twisted remains of the ''Killer Rose.'' The plains around him were still alight with flame and the stench of blood and burning flesh stung his nostrils. The elezen attempted to recover everything he had done under Malphret's mind-control. He remembered he was a killer, a weapon crafted by the garlean scientist. He couldn't remember what had become of Jeanette and his clan. Trying to sort through the wreckage of the garlean airship, he was able to uncover the cell where he remembered his clan being kept. But, upon getting the door unhinged, he found them empty of everything but the unnatural bloody stains that adorned the walls and floor. Near the corner of the room lay Jeanette's grimoire and Juste picked it up. Had the battle claimed the lives of his clan? If that were so, where were their remains? Juste tried to fight his confusion and looted what he could of the ship, finding rations and supplies. There was no one around to help him... and he was lost in a new continent he had never lived in before. He walked on out of the plains for what seemed to be days towards the western coast. Ships were readying to take crucial supplies to the city of Limsa Lominsa. Juste quickly snagged a cloak from one of the nearby crates and wore it over his garlean armor. He stowed away on the ship and was able to successfully disembark at the ruins of the sea city. For a time, he made a small living on the repair of damaged parts of the city, using his magic to extinguish fires from afar. Eventually, he caught the attention of the remnants of the Barracuda, who was accepting volunteers to assist in the rebuilding and keeping of the city's order. It was the first time there was really a calm in his life since his childhood. The elezen would find he even made acquaintances and comrades in arms in the reforming of the great sea city. While Juste safe-guarded his Garlean origins, he also would dismiss his lack of Eorzean knowledge by feigning amnesia caused by the aetherial flux when Dalamud exploded. Five years passed slowly and Juste had a life that was mostly uneventful; exactly what he wished. He wanted to no longer be apart of the conflict between the Eorzeans and the newly disturbed primals. In the time of him wandering, he was properly instructed on how to conjure forth magic within the style taught by the Arcanist's Academy, and was able to use Jeanette's grimoire. His Aether Eye assisted in the smooth transition of arcanima to thaumaturgy to white magic, and he studied as much of the three schools as he traveled across La Noscea. It would be a few months after his five year peace that he would venture to the mainland of Eorzea to seek ways to further his power, as if a latent desire reminded of a possible need of it in the future. However, upon arrival in Vesper Bay, thieves ran off with the passenger's luggage, including the page where Jeanette had sealed D'Andre, the emerald carbuncle. He ran into a marauder named Emma Hart, who agreed to help him take down the thieves. After searching through the footfalls, the two found the men who had agreed to steal the cargo and Juste's page in exchange for somnus from a mysterious sponsor. Juste shamelessly blasted the men to pieces and stitched D'Andre back into his grimoire.

=== Loss of Thyself ===

Soon after arriving into Ul'dah, Juste encountered the daughter of Ikus Agapor, Kelvena. It was incredibly shocking, especially since Juste had all but washed his hands of his past, only to be reminded of everything he had done. The ex-garlean soldier decided to tell Kelvena the truth of Ikus, and his own involvement in the Battle of Carteneau, as almost a confession of all of his sins. While the girl did not blame Juste at first, she was a bit on wary of him. In fact all of Kelvena's comrades were wary of the strange elezen in the worn imperial garments. It would not be until Kelvena was injured in an outing to Coerthas that Juste would prove himself. The girl had extinguished her own supply of aether healing a comrade and was fading fast. Using an unorthodox magic, Juste surrounded himself and Kelvena with his own aether and transferred it to Kelvena. This would save her, yet temporarily silence Juste in the process. This forced him to meditate on his life and think upon his own sins. It was then he had been approached by men in black robes who handed him a letter and vanished. Juste would feel fear for the first time in five long years. Upon this ransom note, the writer had explained that if Juste did not come willingly back to the Empire, they would begin killing his new friends one by one, starting with Kelvena's young ward, Caen Jabari. Juste knew that if he did not go, they would be killed. So he accepted his fate; in a way he knew he deserved it, and he knew the Empire would kill him on sight. He said goodbye to his new friends, only telling Garrett of the letter- the truth behind his lack of choices. He placed a special seal on Jeanette's book, trapping most of his aether inside along with an aetherial ward. Giving the tome to Garrett, he implored the man to safe-guard "his better half." Then Juste left for Ul'dah and the Imperial fortress ducked deep within Western Thanalan. He could feel the end arriving yet, something happened that the elezen did not expect. Juste was instantly surrounded by men in hooded black robes with ornate curved blades. The robed man in front of him pulled back his own hood back revealing the twisted face of Edis Krad Malphret.

The next few suns were filled with enough confusion to give reason for sanity to turn tail and flee. Malphret, now capable of using aether to brainwash the young elezen, began to erase everything Juste knew of his former life. In the final steps of Juste becoming a phantom again, Malphret took his "magnum opus", the Crimson Eye, and successfully installed it into Juste, taking away his prototype eye and discarding it. At first, the new surge of aether tried to destroy Juste, and his body began warp into the similar features of a void-sent. Through an unexplained test of will-power, Juste was able to bend the new aether-flow to his command, the stress of which nearly killed him. However, he retained an elezen form, albeit altered. When Juste awoke, he knew nothing. He could not think of his origins, his race, nor his age. He was an assassin given a single goal by Malphret, seek out and destroy the "shard-bearers."

===Bloodlines===
 +
So it was in that Era long ago that the elezen dark knight Atticus, of the Segura bloodline, in the final battle, cast down the Void Lord Aunzeriuth and raise his sword over his head in attempt to destroy the demon forever. In that hour, Aunzeriuth would beg that his power would be spared and not scattered across the realm for eternity. That amazing power that he had spent an equal eternity gathering. No one expected Atticus to agree and forever bound his blood to the void-being, sealing the demon in his sword, which had now transformed to host the entity of Aunzeriuth. This new blood that flowed through Atticus both excited and terrified the mortal who was reminded by his honor that great power went hand in hand with an even greater responsibility. The elezen would go off alone and train himself to wield this new power of darkness without losing himself in it. To mark his binding to the demon blade, his left eye turned crimson and he swore that only his new bloodline, which he would name Fantome, be the guardians of this power and have a duty to the realm to slay the servants of evil with it.

A century or so later, the sword had been passed down again and again through the Fantome clan which was presently counted under the High Houses of Ishgard, namely, House Durendaire. While the head of the family bore the greatsword Aunzeriuth, other members of the family continued to fight back the Horde with black magics as well as steel. Rovin Fantome, the current head of the family, was an asset against the Dravanian horde that would incessantly assault the Holy See. An arrogant warrior, Rovin would often toss himself into the fray without back-up and unleash devastating strikes in the Dravanian advances. With each moon, Rovin grew more and more powerful, up to the day he would bestow the blade and power of Aunzeriuth to his eldest son, D'Andre Fantome. An anomaly occurred, and Rovin saw himself becoming a slave to the power and his face became twisted. When it was time to surrender the sword, he dug it into D'Andre's chest and killed half of the family when they attempted to stop him. Rovin fled Ishgard, leaving a trail of innocent and temple knight blood in his path, swearing that no one but him would ever wield the power of his bloodline.

Profile

Appearance

Hair Skin Body Type Voice Clothing Notable Features
Silver and crimson. Gold with crimson highlights. Dark in shadow, tan in light. Athletic build. Deep and wispy with an underlying tone of uncertainty and grief. A hybrid of cloth and metal with regal elegance. Scar across his face. A crimson tattoo around his left eye.

Personality & Mannerisms

To people who know Juste as a friend, the elezen will feel obliged to be himself. It is not uncanny to hear the man laugh or smile, and he will offer expressions of happiness around those he cares for.

Combat Art

Fighting Style

"You always look like you want to kill me Juste. Now would be a good reason to."

" I assure you, tis not my intent..." ~Artorias Mason and Juste Fantome

  • Blade: Juste has been taught to wield a sword ever since he was a boy.
  • Black Magic: Juste's Aether Eye allows the young elezen to cast spells at a quick rate and would last much longer before finding himself in need of aether.
  • Archery: Before the plains of Coerthas became conquered by ice and snow, Juste would found solace from his noble duties in hunting and tracking in the wild. During which, he taught himself to use a bow and arrow. While he takes some pride in being proficient at aimed shots at large targets, Juste is not among the first pick for a combat archer.

Friends

Cedric Riordan –An enigmatic Ishgardian Dragoon who has appeared twice, seemingly out of nowhere, to save Juste from instances of peril. On the second count, Juste pledged undying loyalty to Cedric as the fulfillment of a life-debt. The Dragoon uncovered a plot against his own life that may tie all the way back to the Holy See of Ishgard, and Juste will attempt to prevent Cedric's doom by any means necessary. The two have bonded fast and the elezen would soon learn to lower his guard around the hyur. For the first time since Garrett Slater, here is another man who wishes no harm unto Juste and one who the elezen can place full trust with no cost to taint their friendship. While Juste at first found he was bound by oath to protect him, he now feels a sense of comradery with the man.
Leilani Leilai -A young lalafel bard who lives with her family in Gridania. Amidst Juste's investigation of the Shard Bearers, he saved her from being killed by a cloaked individual with a curved blade. It was however, an accident that after the man was felled did the girl believe for a moment that Juste was out to kill her. After explaining the misunderstanding, the two became quick friends. The girl is innocent to the ways of the world and Juste would attempt to shield her from most that lie in shadows. She likes writing songs about her friends, carrying around a small notebook to aide in her lyrical construction. She made Juste promise to teach her archery.
Garrett Slater -A quiet, stoic, and strong Paladin of Ul'dah. His father went off to fight in Mor Dhona, leaving Garrett and his mother alone. After his father died in the war, Garrett now finds a piece of himself missing. He works as a freelance blacksmith and has contracts in all three great cities. He is quite wary of Juste, suspecting the man hails from the Garlean Empire, yet understood when the man gave his life to protect his friends from them. He held on to Juste's grimoire, where the young elezen sealed his ability to cast magic, but returned it when Juste believed he had been rid of Malphret. In the end, Garrett was able to fight back the Black, but suddenly vanished. Juste knows the man is alive yet cannot stop and worry over his whereabouts.

Acquaintances

Kelvena Agapor -A young conjurer from Gridania and the daughter of Ikus Agapor. Kelvena hasn't seen her father since she was eleven, and searches for word of him now that she is strong enough to travel. She has a warm heart, yet can be naive when it comes to protecting her friends. She wishes to be strong enough to protect everyone and re-establish the Lost Rogues. Juste was able to restore her aether capacity when she cast too much from it after trying to save Artorias Mason from a fatal wound. Currently, she is dating the bard, Markus Gladeswind.
Markus Gladeswind -A bard who has fallen head over heels in love with Kelvena Agapor. While Juste and Markus did not know each other long, Markus understood how much Juste meant to Kelvena as a friend, and before Juste went to surrender himself to the Empire, the miqo'te gifted Juste with a good luck feather, in hopes that it would lead him back to them. The miqo'te is also quite the cook. WIth his sudden disappearance after going off to assist the Maelstrom, Juste took steps to locate the miqo'te before tragedy befell him.
Artorias Mason -An all-knowing Dragoon with seemingly limitless power and Imperial technology to boot. He had everything, yet lost it all to Gaius von Baelsar, and now seeks vengeance. Denying the existence of the Twelve in his misfortune, Artorias has a tendency to boast his amazing abilities and often talks down to others; It's not clear if he means to or not. He trains for his inevitable confrontation with Gaius... and to the death of the both of them. Juste considers the man a good friend, and Artorias would agree.
Augustine Frost -A sellsword who has fallen in love with Garrett Slater. While that man can be seen to be rather rude and unsympathetic, he does think fondly of those closest to him, whenever it deems convenient. Juste saved the man's life from two garlean soldiers when they ambushed the man and his comrades.
Surilian Blu -A seemingly timid and shy miqo'te who acts as Lady Kelvena's maid.
Ikus Agapor: The leader of a mercenary group called the Lost Rogues. Juste's father, Rovin, joined the battle of Carteneau alongside this band of mercenaries in exchange for granting him passage to the plains themselves.
Aerostein Epitaph -This freedom-obsessed hyur was once in a relationship with Cedric. Due to a misunderstanding, however, Aerostein would accuse Juste of having an affair with Cedric. In an effort to stab a final guilt-filled accusation at Juste, Cedric would happen upon them both and exile both of them from his life, much to Juste's despair. Expressing his sincere apology for losing Juste's last friend, Aerostein now talks with Juste in a more friendly nature. The elezen is unsure how to act around him, unsure if he is being friendly out of pity or actual sincerity. Aerostein recently regifted Juste with a chocobo doll that Cedric had rejected.

Enemies & Rivals

Edis Krad Malphret -Also known as Malphret The Mad, the Garlean scientist grew obsessed with crafting the perfect weapon to ensure the defeat of the Eorzean Alliance at Carteneau. He has been experimenting on organics for the better half of twenty years before his success with a few subjects. He is wicked and insane, a deadly combination, and has a nasty habit of surviving to plot his newest schemes every time he seems to die. He's attempted to kill the shard bearer Caen Jabari on more than three occasions, with the third resulting in his permanent death, thus ending SECT 7 once and for all.
Uko Tredecim: aka, Phantom Seven, A hunter from SECT 7. He has no regrets, and no emotion. He kills for nothing. In fact, he lusts for it. Since Juste's escape from SECT 7, Uko will take over, going after the Shard-Bearers. However Juste will see that Uko meets death soon. The bloody-haired elezen's recent targets were the young miq'ote Caen Jabari and his older cousin Tiergan Vashir. However before Uko could slay Tiergan with an underhanded attack, Juste would tap into the connection of his Aether Eye, stunning the killer long enough for Tiergan to finish him once and for all.
Varus Adelric Rosenthal -Juste first met the hyuran aether adept near the end of his investigation into the Aeon Free Company. Juste made an effort to seize the hyur when he sicked his assassin in to defend him. The battle was incredible and was almost won, had it not been for the mage who rose his assassin back to full strength from near-death and took advantage of Juste's exhausted state. Varus left Juste for dead where the elezen was soon found clinging to life by a mysterious dragoon.

History/Timeline

"So it ends now, Aunzeriuth, with this blade, I cast you into the Void forever, that your power will be shattered. I smite thee for the sake of Light...!"

"Before thy sword falls, Atticus, phantom, I would beseech thee. It needeth not end with me."

"What bile do you offer me now, Consumer? Riches? Glory? Do not mock my honour-!"

"Nay, Segura. I offer power. Mine own power... and a new beginning." -Atticus Segura and Aunzeriuth

Bloodlines

Rovin, the Butcher

An anomaly occurred, and Rovin saw himself becoming a slave to the power and his face became twisted. Exile (2.2)

Before the High Inquisitor would cast judgement on his family, Rovin's second son, Juste Fantome offered up his own life in exchange for the survival of the family that remained. He pledged to leave Ishgard and bring back his father in chains to be rightfully brought to justice. Agreeing to the request, the elezen was banished from Ishgard until the day he could drag his father back to the Steps of Faith.
