Basic Info

A pit fighter, hunter, and seeker of challenges, Khatar'sae can be seen training at the Pugilist's guild or wandering the deserts of Thanalan. His taciturn nature often hides his enthusiasm for all things fighting. He has an ash colored skin tone and whitish-grey hair with birthmarks around his eyes akin to coeurl spots. Standing at roughly 5'8'' Khatar'sae is taller than most of his race, he usually sports a turban and dresses in rags, though he would generally be seen in furs or more tribal clothing should the climate allow for it. From the fist weapons on his side it can be easily deduced that he specializes in pugilism.

History

Khatar'sae was born in a traditional Keeper Clan in the wilderness of the Black Shroud and as the prefix in his name suggests, he is the fourth child of his family. With a fourth son being a rarity and a gift to the clan, he was treated as such. His family was protective of him and often had him do gathering or chores around the camp, despite his his protests and his skill as a hunter. This however did not stop him from sneaking off on his own. His family would move into Gridania during his teens and Khatar'sae would find himself joining the Lancer's Guild with his eldest brother. Years later as Khatar'sae nears adulthood, he would stumble upon rumours of pugilism and see it in action, which to the irritation of his clan eventually prompted him to leave his clan and make his way to Ul'dah rather than performing his duties as a keeper male.

Khatar'sae unsurprisingly joined the Pugilist's guild upon reaching Ul'dah and picked up the art relatively quick, along with a Triple Triad addiction. He slept and cleaned in the guild for a time before he can afford to pay for living space through pit fighting, hunting, and the ocasional mercenary job. Six years after leaving the Shroud he would lose most of his funds in an ill fated match in triple triad and a series of unsuccessful bets in the colosseum, causing him to join a mercenary guild called Solaris Edge in hopes of making his money back. During that time he would have begun training as a monk under Adalhaid Rask. Though it was a difficult life he lived there was little else he would have asked for.

Unfortunately his long absence from the Shroud would not go unnoticed by his family. He was called back to his clan and make up for lost time, putting him on a long hiatus from his current activities. It was not until a couple of years later that he would be free from breeding duties. However his life would not return to what it was before. Many members of Solaris had left since and the miqo'te now found himself owing them enormous sums of gil in absence and damage fees on top of loans to get him out of trouble. Khatar'sae's luck has now turned for the worst.

Personality

Like many keeper miqo'te Khatar'sae carries a reserved demeanor and generally keeps to himself, often prefering to observe his surroundings than interacting with them. He does not speak much but when he does he tends to be blunt with his words, speaking his mind regardless of how it would affect others. With this stoicism lies a sort of stubbornness. Khatar'sae will fight back when provoked, almost always standing his ground even on the pettiest of matters. He is also thrill-seeker bordering on recklessness. He would go out of his way to seek challenges, seeming to care little for the possible consequences. Despite his boldness Khatar'sae is a superstitious sort, often carrying charms, throwing gil into fountains, and praying for good luck.

Strengths

Pugilism: Having fought and hunted for his whole life fighting itself is not new to him. He has made much of his six years training as a pugilist, being a natural and having put in many hours. He can be adaptable in combat and can fight aggressively or conservatively when needed.

Wilderness Survival: Having been brought up in a traditional Keeper clan has made him a capable hunter and tracker. This has also given him other skills such as gathering herbs, setting up camps, and cooking, making him self-proficient.

Athleticism: Khatar'sae has the natural agility and acrobatic capabilities that comes naturally to miqo'te. This is further enhanced through his experience with hunting and combat.

Tactical: Khatar'sae tends to be a logical thinker and his time spent observing and thinking on his own does not go to waste. If allowed he will more often than not assess the situation and adjust accordingly both in and outside of combat. He is also opportunistic, able to spot and take opportunities as they present themselves.

Triple Triad: Khatar'sae has the heart of the cards.

Weaknesses

Recklessness: While capable of being cunning and a quick thinker he can lose himself in the heat of the moment the more he relies on his instinct. Combined with his risk taking tendencies, it is not uncommon for him to bite off more than he can chew as his scars and crippling debt would suggest.

Pride: This would be a double edged sword for the miqo'te. On one hand it is part of what makes him a capable fighter but it also makes him prone to be reckless. He also gets lulled in to even the most trivial challenges at times.

Magic: Although he had trained as a monk and was able to unlock four chakras through hard work, he has trouble channeling the fourth and there is little he can do with chakra outside of using it to enhance his athleticism. Magic does not come easily to him.

Direct: With his direct nature and his lack of social interactions, Khatar'sae can come off as insensitve and his interactions can often be antagonistic.

Affiliations

Khatar'a Banchamek: "A Twin Adder and the eldest son in my family, the one I spoke to the most. He was strrrong, cunning, well loved in the clan, and someone I wished to surpass... a shame he was lost in the Battle of Carteneau. I look forward to hunting and sparring with him once more after I die."

Adalhaid Rask: "My mentor, and a good one as well. She is a skilled monk, one to stand her ground rrrather than evade it seems. She has doubts of her own. Of course, Ala Mhigans are a... hapless lot. Rrregardless I look forward to facing her at her full power."

Z'aida Tia: "Our paths have crossed on multiple occasions, friendlier than most miqo'te I have encountered. He is a Triple Trrriad player just as I and we have had many duels against eachother. I would like to duel him again when he has obtained stronger cards."

Erica Mikhori: "The witch. Manipulative and mischievous, switching Istellia's body with Madoc's then forced us on a mission, one that I do not wish to speak of. She has tried to make amends, and perrhaps I was wrrong to judge her so harshly. Regardless, that woman is cursed and not to be trusted."

Ume Muto: "An Au Ra who often falls asleep due to prrroblems with the aether and potential mate of Uldar. I know little else of her save for the fact that she plays Triple Trrriad as well. I look forward to dueling her again, once she has strrronger cards."

Istellia Montagne: "The leader of Solaris Edge. She seems knowledgeable about mercenary work and cares for her own. Her skills in battle I can not yet gauge... had she kept hold onto her axe when we had sparred the rrresult could have been different. A patient one, waiting until my debt is at its highest before coming to collect it."

Madoc Parnell: "Another leader of Solaris Edge. The Au Ra seems... relaxed, calm. He is more talkative than the others in the guild. He is deceptively fast for his size and knows to use it to his advantage."

Temame Kajiya: "She crrreates and repeairs weapons in the guild. She is quick and her technique is sound, though she lacks composure and is easily swayed by her emotions. She seems trroubled each time I see her. It is unfortunate that she is unwilling to share her troubles and unable to carry their burden. Temame is also a skilled trriple triad player and though I have bested her Onion Knight, I am sure she will imprrrove and become a more difficult challenge in our next meeting. It appears that she is now a male. The witch's doing no doubt."

Uldar Qestir: "We entered the guild at the same time and he is the only one I have met prrrior to joining. His tribe likes to stay silent and speak with their actions, though this one is quick to speak at times. He seems stern and at times, irrritable."

Sahn Catal "Mrm, the alchemist of our guild, cold and quick to assume. Arrogant. She has been more tolerable as of late, and can even make for good company when alone."
