Appearance Hair & Eyes Kyalia has light blue eyes and suffers from severe myopia. Originally she had strawberry blonde but her journey to and time in Eorzea has made it a light, golden blonde. Kyalia favors keeping her hair longer, though how she styles it depends on where she is going and what she'll be doing. Physique & Markings Growing up as a servant meant that Kyalia was not fed as well as she should have been, but was never starved. Upon the fall of Dalmasca, Kyalia lost more weight as she tried to escape the ruined capital and cross the seas to Eorzea. Dangerously malnourished, a kind woman on the ship to Limsa Lominsa helped her recover some of her strength. Kyalia's health has since improved considerably, her lithe frame once more moving with elegance and feminine grace. Being rather ashamed of her small breasts, she often wears push-up bras or clothing with extra padding around her bust. A beauty mark lays beneath her left eye, a result from the desert sun she grew up in. Despite this, Kyalia is fairly fair skinned; which she goes through great lengths to maintain with lotions to protect her skin from the sun. As a young woman, her best guess being around the age of seventeen, she was punished for failing to do a chore that landed her three lashes on her back with a whip. They've healed clean and may be hard to see due to the passage of time, but in the right light three raised marks can be seen and much more easily felt. The skin just above both her wrists on the insides of her arms were pierced by two rods, one for each arm, that were a third of an ilm thick. They’ve been removed, but the inside of each wrist has two circular scars within an ilm of each other. Both ear lobes are pierced, as is her navel. After receiving her first payment from Lady de Bayle, she purchased a fine butterfly navel ring, with heart shaped aquamarine upper wings, and very small diamonds for the lower wings. The frame is made of titanium. Hygiene & Attire Kyalia has always strived to look and smell her best to be presentable for any Household she may serve. Steady pay in Eorzea has only enhanced her dedication as she is able to afford finer products for her skin and hair. Morning routines vary on how much time she has, but time is always dedicated to adding sun protection lotion and moisturizer to her body to ensure she stays fair skinned and soft. Make-up is applied precisely, but conservatively. At the end of the day, Kyalia rarely goes to sleep without an extensive process of removing the make-up and oils off her skin, using a water-based cleanser, exfoliating, using a toner, essence, and skin treatments. She then applies a sheet mask to her face for twenty minutes, applies an eye cream, moisturizes, and only then will go to bed. No less attention is spent on how Kyalia smells, trying to maintain a feminine scent with notes of flowers and fruit. She uses a perfumed shampoo and conditioner which smells of orange blossoms, white peaches, freesia bouqet, jasmine magnolia, daisies, muguet, cedarwood, soft amber, and white musk. The scent is subtle and gentle, not meant to be overwhelming, just a delicate fragrance. Her perfume is much the same in being a delicate fragrance, a blend of bergamot, mandarin, lychee, peach, madonna lily, muguet, plum, jasmine, vetiver, vanilla, and amber musk. Fashion is very important and her clothing is almost always impeccable. Kyalia favors dresses and skirts, but can be just as comfortable in shorts or pants. Upper garments vary greatly on the situation, though modesty in public is of some importance to her. Given her short height Kyalia often wears heels in public. Flexibility of attire is an important trait to her, and the only real standard that can be noted is that Kyalia’s clothes are always clean, pressed, and well-fitted. Personality Psychological Profile There are two key factors that have shaped Kyalia into the woman she is. The first is that she was born into servitude, and has served nobles for nearly all of her life. Kyalia often struggles to overcome the gap of social hierarchy and professionalism as a result. The second being the tragedy that was the violent destruction of the Dalmascan capital, Rabanastre, which she barely escaped with her life. Even the escape has caused Kyalia to feel guilt for surviving when so many others perished, and often struggles speaking of her homeland and life before coming to Eorzea. Voice Kyalia speaks with perfect articulation, though in a soft, demure tone. Her voice does not carry well in loud crowds or at a distance, and Kyalia has trouble speaking much louder. A prominent upper-class Dalmascan accent can be easily detected, if one is able to place the region. If too much attention is placed upon her and she grows uncomfortable, Kyalia is prone to babbling. She's learned many different languages and had studied very hard in her free time as a young girl to make herself a more valuable servant; though with no one to practice with she cannot always speak other tongues and sometimes even struggles to understand thick accents or rapid speech. Philosophy & Mannerisms Born into servitude, Kyalia was raised for service. Her mother spent as much time as she possibly could to educate her child and raise Kyalia to be a proper, appealing woman. Kyalia thus often behaves as if a meek noble, speaking clearly and formally. Meek because she avoids escalating confrontation and tends to be a bit more subservient. Often this makes Kyalia feel out of place; never really belonging with nobles, but peers perceiving that she is acting as if she is better than them. Such is not the case, but it has led for a somewhat lonely life for the hyur. Dalmasca is a diverse kingdom, and a common philosophy practiced was "live and let live" to avoid senseless conflicts. Kyalia is no exception, and while she has many conservative opinions, she rarely pushes them upon other people. She enjoys spending time in Ul'dah, and the Quicksand in particular, simply because it reminds her of the diversity her homeland. That does not mean she is comfortable with everything she witnesses there: public affection, fights, and general impropriety in dress or behavior makes her uneasy. Kyalia will not protest but has a tendency to become reticent and quiet, averting her gaze and sometimes even leaving the uncomfortable situation behind. The darkest corners of her heart holds sorrow, guilt, and an amount of personal dislike. Such emotions existed even as a young girl; mostly in the form of jealousy of the fine fashion of her masters, and even hatred for the father and the debt he amounted that put her mother and herself in a life of indentured servitude. Looking back now though, Kyalia realizes how petty these things were, becoming inconsequential when Rabanastre was destroyed. The sheer amount of violence she witnessed has been the cause of lasting trauma and many dark nightmares. Kyalia began drinking copious amounts of alcohol to try and drown her own thoughts just so she may get a night's broken rest. Time and companionship have helped, allowing her to rest easier and the nightmares to become more and more infrequent. This has resulted in Kyalia becoming an alcoholic who is quick to pour a drink to try and relax in social company or simply when her work is done and the rest of the night is her own. Any excuse is fine with her, so long as her drinking does not interfere with her duties to House de Bayle. From all the troubles Kyalia has suffered, it has nurtured her desire to help others. Usually putting other people before herself, she tries to aid in way she can. On a deeper level though, Kyalia harbors dreams of becoming a healer, and to help those who are sick or injured. The most influential cause for these dreams was the trauma suffered from watching her homeland razed by Garleans. Such horrors push Kyalia to learn how to heal the wounded and alleviate suffering. An arduous process with many difficulties, she studies diligently and is beginning to practice aether manipulation with more dedication. With a favoritism to Astrology, she also spends sometimes studying conjury. Her mother never spoke much of Gavrie, and Kyalia was too young to understand the significance much anyway. What she did learn, later in life, was the debt she was paying off was this man's fault. Kyalia blames him for her mother's early death, and is reluctant to even mention she has a father to this day. Gavrie is presumed dead, whether by loan sharks or Garleans is anyone's guess. Much to her surprise, the man almost always has a smile and kind words; a relatively new concept to her in terms of nobility's behavior. 💕🌷♡Astrelle De'bayle, Partner Having approached Kyalia in the Quicksand within her first moon in Eorzea, Astrelle offered her a job interview based on her skills in service. Eager for work, Kyalia took up the offer and was employed by House de Bayle as Astrelle's Lady's Maid within a week. As a Lady's Maid, Kyalia soon became comfortable with the elezen and eventually a bond of trust was formed. A moon after being hired, Kyalia admitted to not having kissed anyone since she was a young girl; Something Astrelle choose to remedy for reasons that, to this day, are still unknown to Kyalia. This evening marks when the demure hyur formed a crush on her employer, doing her upmost to keep it to herself. Such efforts failed and for three moons hints of her affections slipped through Kyalia’s mask of professionalism. Four moons in Lady de Bayle’s employment, Kyalia finally admitted how much she cared for and desired her employer. Swearing it would not get in the way of her duties, her promises were mostly ignored. Fearing the worst, something quite unexpected happened. Astrelle asked Kyalia to be her girlfriend – with the condition that the young woman would have to quit the elezen’s employment. The very next sun, Kyalia was moving into Astrelle’s room within Lavender Beds; very much unemployed but happier than she had ever been since her childhood. ⚖●Carina De'bayle - Viscountess Having only spoken to the woman briefly at a few House events, she is not well known. Astrelle's trust and warmth towards Carina is more than enough for Kyalia to genuinely appreciate and respect the woman though. ⚖♡●Denz De'bayle, Partner's Brother - Knight-Errant Having only spoken to the man a handful of times, what Kyalia knows about him is mostly from Astrelle's mouth. Despite the woman's teasing of her brother, Kyalia has still developed a good opinion of the man. She's also very grateful for Denz teaching his sister how to use a sword. ⚖●Hestia De'bayle, Employer - Baroness Head of House de Bayle and the woman who finalized her employment to Astrelle. Intimidated by her, Kyalia does not know much of Hestia but respects her and is honored to serve how she may. ⚖●Killian de Bayle, - Head Cleric A man that's easy to get along with; given his marriage Kyalia is intimidated of Killian nonetheless. A healer she tries to learn from whenever she can, she's too afraid to approach him directly about furthering her medical education. ♦●Sokhani Uulzkhir, Friend - Sharkani Befriending her in the Quicksand, Kyalia found herself enjoying Sokhani's company. A love of brandy, quick to laugh, and politely helpful upon Kyalia's request; when the xaela called her a 'friend' she immediately agreed with the statement. Struggling to pronounce the woman's name, Kyalia settled on a nickname of Sharkani. ⚖●Vilette Laurent - Martial Instructor Mysterious but helpful, Kyalia enjoys Vilette's company. The woman has gone out of her way to make Kyalia feel relaxed and comfortable. Catching Vilette training others to use a sword and being present during a conversation with Astrelle about training has made Kyalia consider approaching the woman for about swordplay herself. At this time though, Kyalia is too shy and busy.
