Brave. Suspicious. Compassionate. Xenophobic. Loyal. Liadan is perhaps a contradiction to those who do not know her well. Raised in the heart of the East Shroud, in a village that no longer exists, her attitudes towards outsiders have been shaped by her isolated upbringing. Like most native Gridanians, she is deeply respectful of the Twelveswood and the Padjal who serve as intermediaries between man and elemental. And like most native Gridanians, she is suspicious and even hostile towards outsiders, particularly those of non-Hyur or non-Wildwood origin. To say that she is racist is accurate, though she might be the most polite racist you've ever met.
Liadan will always do what she believes is right, even if what is "right" moves against her fellow Hearers, or even if "what is right" would favor a foreigner. As distrustful as she is of outsiders, she is not one to twist the words of the elementals, nor is she one to misuse her social status within the Twelveswood.

L I K E S

Healing. As a natural-born healer, Liadan has an inborn drive to mend that which is broken. Though she distrusts and even dislikes outsiders, that need to mend their wounds will take priority over mere dislike.
Honesty. Liadan has no real patience for liars, especially bad ones. She's also none too fond of those who twist words to suit their purposes - i.e. politicians.
The Black Shroud. Liadan often says that the forest sings to her, and she means it. Nowhere in Eorzea does she feel more at home - and more safe - than with her feet planted firmly in the fertile soil of the Twelveswood.

D I S L I K E S

Garlemald With the blood of her family on their hands, Garlemald occupies a special place of hatred and fear in Liadan's heart.
Outsiders. Like most Forestborn, Liadan is extremely distrustful of outsiders, for they have ever brought death and destruction to the Twelveswood. She sincerely wishes they would stop breathing in her damn forest.
Nagging Elementals. Being a Hearer is a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, social status! On the other, pissy elementals who feel no compunction in nagging you every bell of the day.

M O T I V A T I O N

Gridania Liadan possesses a deep, abiding loyalty to the city-state of Gridania. There is nothing she wouldn't do to protect the land of her people.
One Who Hears. Liadan is a Hearer - a person who was born with an innate ability to speak with and understand elementals. With this ability comes an innate talent for Conjury, as well as a social imperative to act as an intermediary between Gridania and the elementals of the Shroud. This is a driving force behind many of Liadan's actions.
Change Though Liadan does not like change, it is something not even she can avoid. But sometimes change is not what you see outside, but what is inside. The question is, can she fulfill the charge she was given by her mentor, or will she be unable to make that change?

S T R E N G T H

Healing. As a Hearer, Liadan has a natural affinity for Conjury. Additionally, she has received several years of intensive training in the arts, and is counted among the most talented healers in the Stillglade Fane.
Negotiation. As a Hearer, Liadan has been trained in the proper ways of negotiating with the elementals that inhabit the Shroud. She is perhaps surprisingly good at what she does (likely because the elementals themselves can often sense her sincerity when she appeals to them).
Loyalty. Liadan rarely, if ever, fails to do what she says she will do. She is known to keep her word, and to be loyal to those who have shown loyalty to her.

W E A K N E S S

Weapons. Liadan is laughably terrible with sharp, pointy objects. She is as likely to stab herself as stab an enemy.
Xenophobia. Like many native Gridanians, Liadan is rather xenophobic. This manifests as a general distrust or dislike for outsiders, especially strange-looking outsiders. It also translates to an irrational dislike/distrust for Duskwights, who are widely viewed as disreputable within Gridanian society.
Temper. Liadan's temper is legendary, and she has been working for years to learn to control it. Believing that Hearers must be calm in order to calm the elementals they intercede with, Liadan's mentors at the Stillglade Fane gave her intense training on emotional control. Even so, her control is imperfect at best.

Q U I R K S

'Courageous. Liadan has never thought of herself as particularly brave - in fact, she believes herself to be a coward. When she was issued a chocobo by the Order of the Twin Adders, she named him Courageous in hopes that he would inspire the emotion in her. As it happens, Courageous is a good deal more competent at combat than she is, and has saved her life more than once. The two are nearly inseperable.
Rebel'. Liadan doesn't always agree with what her fellow Conjurers say and do in "service" of the forest. On several occasions, she has defied the words of one or more Conjurers to make right an unjust situation. However, for obvious reasons, this is a closely-kept secret on her part.

Liadan is a petite woman with gentle curves at best. Standing at only 5'2" in height, she is shorter than many female Miqo'te, much to her consternation. It's very hard to look down your nose at someone when they tower over you, after all. Her eyes are a deep green that some call "forest," though she would probably dispute it, and she has been blessed with dark, almost wine-red hair that she normally wears loose around her shoulders.
Liadan's clothing choices are practical, and she often wears belts that contain pouches for her herbal remedies. Rarely is she seen in anything "revealing," though she has commented on more than one occasion that one reason she dislikes Ul'dah so intensely is the heat that makes her normal clothing feel suffocating.

C O M B A T & W E A P O N R Y

While Liadan is extremely strong magically, she has almost no physical combat skills. She simply doesn't have the "knack" for combat.
Because of this, Liadan generally tries to avoid combat when possible. If pressed, she will fall back on her Conjury to wreak elemental havok on those attempting to do her harm.

M A G I C

Though Liadan has little to know combat skills, she is very strong magically. If pressed and cornered, she has been known to conjure storms from clear skies, and call treants to her aid. She has little desire to kill, however, and will often choose what she hopes are non-lethal methods to protect herself.

Not all of what you read here are true rumors! Remember gossip is a thing for IC purposes!
◢ Common Rumors - Easily overheard. Use these freely!
"Oh, she's peasant-born, didn't you know?" -- Gossipy Elezen.
"She's one of them Hearers. They speak for the Elementals, you know." - Elderly Gridanian Commoner.
"Oh, her entire family was killed during the Calamity." -- Neutral Serpent Sergent.

◢ Uncommon Rumors - A little more difficult to hear. Use sparingly or ask first!
"I heard she filled an entire storeroom in the Fane with her odds and ends. Strange one, that girl." -- Gossiping Wood Wailer.
"Supposedly she came to the Fane completely untrained, yet was able to Conjure. I think it's a load of bullshit, personally." -- Jealous Conjurer.
"You know she didn't even know how to read when she came to Gridania? Honestly, I wonder what E-Sumi-Yan sees in her... - Disapproving Elezen.
◢ Rare Rumors - Very rarely overheard. Please ask before using!
"The story I got was that she channeled the power of the Elements when her village was sacked. They said she killed a squad of Imperial Soldiers by herself. Hard to believe, but... –Skeptical Serpent Corporal.
"She didn't speak for first two months after she got here. Miounne said that she... –Watchful Wood Wailer.
"She healed my son. They said it was the will of the forest, but she healed him anyway. She took the poison right out of him and banished it, she said! But...but, she said they couldn't know... –Grateful Villager.

◢ Player Character Rumors - Feel free to add rumors of your own!
"The Lady Conjurer has her moments. I have seen her reach deep and bring forth miracles... and yet what is most miraculous is that she can bring herself to lower the walls of suspicion and fear to impart her wisdom to... kindred souls.Tengri Geneq
"There's something about that Hearer. She acts with her heart, and I wouldn't suggest anyone try to stand in her way.Aya Foxheart

As leeched from the persons post before me here is a handy list of ways for our characters to be involved in some way or another. These are no inclusive and I am happy to include you in backstory/ongoing history if you are to ask!

P A S T

BACKSTORY HOOKS:
'Garlean Survivor -- flexible.
Something happened to an entire unit of Garlean soldiers that had just sacked Liadan's village, and of those souls who called the village home, Liadan is the only known survivor. She normally refuses to speak of what exactly happened that day, but there are persistent whispers of Greenwrath to this day. It's possible that someone in the Garlean unit survived, someone who remembers what happened.

FAMILY HOOKS:
Brother -- Male. Older than Liadan. Midlander Hyur. Details flexible.
Liadan's brother left to join the Order of the Twin Adders prior to her village's destruction. To date, she has never heard from him and suspects that he was either killed before her village was sacked, or perished in the Calamity on the fields of Mor Dhona. However, nothing is certain and it's possible that he's still alive and using another name.

P R E S E N T

ADVENTURE HOOKS:
HEALER -- Open to all kinds. No requirements.
Though Liadan distrusts and often dislikes outsiders, she'd never actually turn one awayif they needed healing. Her skills are fairly well known within Gridania, and she is counted among the most skilled healers in service to the Stillglade Fane.
HEARER -- Open to all kinds. No requirements.
Liadan is a Hearer, and as such, is often being nagged by random elementals. If your business venture is being eaten by angry Treants, she might be the woman to talk to.
HERBALIST -- Open to all kinds. No requirements.
Liadan was trained in herbcraft by her mother, and still practices those skills to this day. She's quite adept at retrieving obscure ingredients that only the Shroud contains.
