With such a rough exterior comes a rough interior-- at least, that's what many would be left to believe. Yet after sharing a pint or two with Lionnet Dubeltaire, one will quickly find that to be far from the case. Although not entirely right in the head, Lionnet is a chummy fellow and willing to hold a conversation with any who engages, eager to share laughs or stories with any who will listen. He's a boisterous fellow who will gladly rouse a drinking contest, a shanty chorus, or even take part in a good ol' fashioned bar fight, but he's the kind of person who keeps those sorts of things within the bar right where it belongs.

Just make sure to only catch him inside the pub if you're looking for a good time. Outside of the pub is a completely different elezen from the chummy fellow folks may have grown familiar with. Lionnet is a man who keeps his focus on his job, whatever it may be at the moment, and does not seem as keen to make friends as he did in the bar. He still bears a pleasant front while he's working, since he kind of needs that in order to keep clients coming, but lolly-gagging and tomfoolery is something he will not tolerate when on the job, and anyone who tries to distract him from it (or even antagonize him) will end up with a taste of his past reputation as "Behemoth of the Seas".

Of course, he may be almost always no-nonsense and seem like none can hold authority over him, but that is also not true-- put his daughters into play and he will melt into a puddle of goo in an instant. It's clear from the get-go that Joellie and Faine have their father wrapped around their tiny li'l fingers (though thankfully not enough that they can get away with ''everything''), and that Lionnet is a proper family man. Nearly all of whatever profits he makes from his work goes straight into his daughters' welfare, and Lionnet will not hesitate to give up luxuries to make sure his kids are happy and healthy-- meaning his days in the pub are very, ''very'' limited. Being a single father is a constant job in and of itself, and with little to no acquaintances he trusts enough to watch over his kids, Lionnet hasn't had the time to have a fun night out himself-- something he does not regret but is also something that very much shows in just how ''tired'' he seems.

Overview

Despite the intimidating silhouette and the scars that litter basically every ilm of his body, Lionnet is a man who merely wants for a simple life. An orphan who was later shanghai'd onto a pirating vessel, Lionnet is no stranger to the dangers that come with life on the seas. He'd grown acquainted with the perils of his predicament, embraced it, and even climbed the rung to becoming the boatswain's Mate, and had reached a point where a future as a Captain of his own pirating vessel was naught but certain.

So what would make him give up this chance at a possibly lavish life? A little girl that came as a result of a single drunken fling. Lionnet is a man who prioritizes family and children above all else, and has made countless sacrifices so that his daughter would have a happy, fulfilling life. Now the proud father of two little girls — seven-summer-old Joellie and five-moon-old Faine — Lionnet has left the seafaring life behind to find his way in the world, so that he could give his children the life he never had.

Appearance

While not the tallest elezen, Lionnet definitely qualifies as being among the taller ones. Standing at a full six-fulm-nine (yeah, yeah, yuck it up), he towers over many races while being fully able to stand eye-to-eye with all the others. Lionnet's Duskwight heritage is one that is very much obvious, as his dark skin has a notably ashy tone, and his short-cropped blond hair and golden hazel eyes (er-- eye) matches the diluted tone of his skin. Facial hair is something he doesn't shy away from, and he tends to prefer a mutton-chop style whenever he remembers to shave (he often 'forgets' just to mess with Joellie, who detests a prickly chin).

What makes him truly intimidating, however, is his build. Lionnet is very well-built, with pretty much all of his weight going into muscle-mass, and he insists on maintaining that muscle-mass well into his elderly years. He's actually stockier than the average elezen, thanks to the years of rigging the ship and fighting with his ax, and he regularly maintains this build through rigorous daily exercise and a lot of food.

• Scars & Markings: Scars. Lots of 'em. A life of piracy (even an unwilling one) is not without its perils, and Lionnet's definitely gotten his fair share of them. Some scars are deeper than others, with a range of stories behind them from the mundane to the epic, but the scar that draws the most eyes is right on his face. There is a large thick gash that spans from his forehead to his left cheek, covering his very-much missing left eye-- in terms of its origin, he will simply explain that it was "a gift from the Calamity".

• Voice: Lionnet's voice is low and gravelly, definitely with a history of smoking behind it. His voice is amazing for a good, toe-tapping sea shanty, though. He usually keeps to simpler layman's terms in his manner of speech, but he often tends to switch back to a pirate's dialect when he's tense.

• Clothing: Lionnet prefers clothes that are simple with as few baubles as possible, and easy to move about in. When gearing up, he's not one to turn his nose up to armor as it's saved his life countless times, and will usually rely on one particularly trusty set of armor that he's kept very well-maintained-- it's debatable how much longer it'll last, though. Formal parties are not something he often takes part in, and while he wouldn't hesitate to dress his little girls in the finest, frilliest dresses he can find/make, he would be visibly uncomfortable in clothes of a similar fashion meant for him.

There is no mistake: Lionnet is essentially a human tank. With the amount of muscle he bears, and with how long he's been on the seas, to say he's a pro at the ax — a pirate's weapon of choice — would be an understatement… and yet it's only a half-truth. Lionnet is skilled with a two-handed ax, that much is obvious, but he's had no "formal" training aside from being taught how to hold it before being tossed into the proverbial lions' den. He fights in a way that he feels is right: where to swing, when to block, when to forego the ax for a swift kick to the nads-- these are all things he considers on the fly, and it sometimes makes him seem like an unfair fighter.

And even without his ax, Lionnet is still a dirty fighter. He doesn't play fair with his punches, aiming for spots where he knows an enemy will go down fast. Coupled with the sheer amount of strength that goes into each punch, as well as decently fast reflexes from handling a ship's rigging, and the reasoning behind Lionnet's title as the Behemoth of the Seas becomes very clear.

Yet despite this, there is one weakness Lionnet has when it comes to combat: handling magic-based attacks. Mages were not common out at sea unless they were the healing sort, and while he has handled arcanists from Mealvaan's Gate, such instances were few and far between. He doesn't know how to do magic, he doesn't know how to defend against magic-- hell, he barely knows how to teleport, and he doesn't boast a high enough anima to handle teleportation without getting at least a little woozy. Should Lionnet end up against a mage, he may be able to hold his own-- but not for very long.

Family

Joellie Dubeltaire (NPC) () - Daughter
Lionnet's eldest child. She was the pinnacle of the biggest change of his life, and while he does occasionally miss life at sea, he wouldn't trade Joellie for the world. Just turning her seventh summer, she's developed a bit of a mischievous streak that Lionnet's found himself combating very often.

Faine Dubeltaire (NPC) () - Daughter
Lionnet's second child-- though not by blood. Faine is a Hyur girl just entering her fifth moon of life, and although her teething has left Lionnet in a lot of pain, he still loves her to bits and will scorn any who would think her as anything other than his kin, Joellie included.

Acquaintances

Vielle Jeulerand
(NPC)
An old crewmate/flame of Lionnet's and Joellie's mother. Lionnet does not fault Vielle for her choice when Joellie was born, and despite the rift now between them, he still wonders how she's doing and if she even survived the Calamity.
Audrye North
(NPC)
A friend of Lionnet's and Faine's mother, she was the one who nursed Lionnet back to health after the Calamity. When asked about Audrye, Lionnet will say she died during childbirth and adopted Faine as his own, but the bitter undertone of his words imply a story much more complex than that.

Lionnet's Journey

OOC Information

Stances on RP: I like to consider myself a very flexible roleplayer who can easily fit into a variety of scenarios and plots, and I am a firm believer of letting people play what they want, however they want to play it. That being said, considering we roleplay in a world that has an abundance of lore and history behind it, I expect anyone who roleplays with me to acknowledge that the lore exists and has a character that can easily fit into the lore provided. I'm not a hard lore follower, as I believe the lore to be more of a guideline rather than a set of rules, but I do not want to roleplay with something that sounds like it has no place in the world of FFXIV.

Hooks and relationships: Lionnet is a single man, making him open for any sort of relationship you have in mind, ranging from enemies to acquaintances to lovers or family-- provided you're willing to work for it, considering how busy he is. That being said, Lionnet being open to many odd jobs makes him available for all sorts of hooks, so if you think he'd be a benefit to any plot hook you have in mind, feel free to hit me up!

RP combat and injuries: I tend to be fairly flexible when it comes to combat styles — dice-based, freeform, systematic; so long as I can understand its inner workings, I am okay with it. Generally, I am okay with Lionnet getting roughed up; he's a fighter and well acquainted with pain thanks to his life as a pirate. However, anything anything beyond broken bones that can be mended to 100% with time and care will need my consent. Character death is a hard 'No' for me.

Miscellaneous: Keep the IC/OOC line in mind when reading this; unless Lionnet disclosed any information on this wiki to your character, any info on here is strictly OOC.

Important! If anything that my character does or says unsettles you in an OOC manner, or if suddenly you are not okay with something in my RP, please let me know right away! Communication is key! I am also very embarrassed and anxious when it comes to reach people out ingame repeatedly, so.. don't hesitate to tell me if I'm being intrusive or anything.
