General Info

Like most other members of her clan, Miynmekh Qestir (pronounced /mijɪnmek keɪstɪər/) refuses to speak. This stems from her tribe's beliefs that all words are lies, and that a man's actions are the purest form of communication. Although some of her kin have been known to read and write, or even to use fingerspeak, Miyn typically rejects all of these. Despite this insistence, she is able to maintain a comfortable standard of living through both hunting and adventuring jobs. In fact, the majority of Mekh's assignments come from the Immortal Flames, whom she frequently contracts for; incidentally, they also all tend to involve being problematic to the remaining Garlean presence in Eorzea. However, due to her love of exploring and good relations with the gobbiekin, Mekh also takes on assignments through the Adventurer's Guild and other sources as well.

Appearance

Short even by Au Ra standards, Miynmekh measures in a few inches shy of 5'. Like the majority of her family members, she sports a crop of stark white hair and mismatched eyes of blue and black, though the latter typically goes unnoticed due to the similar shade. Other noticeable features include a lack of limbal rings and a smattering of brilliant white freckles splashed across her face. Some light scarring may be noted around her ankles, though between her skin tone and her scales, this may be difficult to see.

Prior to coming to Eorzea, she, perhaps understandably, had little to no interest in fashions. However, upon her arrival, she found that her scales and horns rendered her both frightening and fascinating to many. In an attempt to dissuade such reactions, she took to styling both hair and dress in prominent Eorzean styles. Although she is now more comfortable with showing off her scales, many of her preferred outfits still continue to sport long sleeves or skirts as well as pants. Perhaps her most noticeable outfit is a flashy red blouse and skirt, which she especially prefers for dancing or mingling predominantly with Eorzeans. When working or suspecting trouble, she will instead opt for more practical garb. In terms of jewelry, Miyn enjoys decking herself out with shiny and dangly pieces; however, when dressing practically, typically the extent of her accessories will be a singular earring fashioned in the shape of a typical red bomb.

Temperament

Due to having a somewhat spoiled upbringing as the eldest daughter in her family, Miyn has a tendency to put herself and her desires first, with few exceptions. This selfishness is exacerbated by a fiery temperament and intense stubbornness. In addition to this, Mekh has a mischievous streak. When all of these factors play off of each other, she can be both incredibly annoying and bratty. It should be noted, however, that she can and will behave properly when provided with incentive to do so, especially if doing so will result in obtaining something she desires. Miynmekh has an intense dislike of Garleans as well as a strong distrust of Lalafell due to events in her past in both Yanxia and Ul'dah. Even so, of late, she has been making slow but steady strides in overcoming these prejudices.

Combat Style

Although she, like the majority of her family, has strong aetherical talent (particularly with manipulating Earth aether), Miyn lacks both the patience (due to not viewing the discipline as "training") and intelligence to put these abilities to good use. After several (inconsistent) moons of "study," the most she managed to learn were the basic spells of Benefic, Esuna and Malefic. Most are unaware that she is capable of even this much, as she instead often favors the bow, sometimes even channeling Earth aether into her shots to grant them extra force on impact. In addition to her bow, Mekh often carries a couple of daggers and/or knives on her person. However, as she consistently avoided close-range combat and hunting over the course of her life, she has no practical training in the field. Despite this, she has remarkably good aim when throwing them. Mostly, however, she uses them as a deterrent.

In terms of style, Miyn prefers to be mobile or with at least a few methods of egress from any form of combat situation. From a young age, she and her siblings were taught to flee or retreat if they found themselves in imminent danger, even if this meant leaving behind one another, with the idea being that it was better to flee and double back to assist rather than to be killed outright. This tendency, when combined with her dislike of close-quarters-combat, can result in Mekh appearing craven or cowardly, not that such an assessment would be wholly inaccurate with her tendency to put her own well-being above that of those around her.

Biography

The Azim Steppe

Miyn was born and raised in the western region of the Azim Steppe, amongst the clifftops in the region of The Towering Still. Like many young Steppe-dwellers, Mekh accompanied family members on hunting ventures from a young age. As her parents were engaged in mercantile trade throughout the Steppes and Yanxia, Miynmekh and her siblings were taught to read and write in Common; however, unlike her younger relative Suvdkhi, Miyn has rarely, if ever, been known to write much of anything beyond her name and address. Miyn also frequently accompanied a mixture of her parents and siblings on some of these trips, gaining a decent--if somewhat outdated--familiarity with the geography of both the Azim Steppe and the borderlands of Doma. Given the lack of Garlean presence on the Steppes, it is most likely that her exposure to the Garleans, which has led to a long-lasting dislike of Imperial soldiers, originated on one of these many trading trips into the Doman interior.

Before the Calamity

The Adventurer's Guild has records of a "Miynmekh Qestir" appearing in their ledgers a few years before the fall of Dalamud. The adventurers she was with claimed not to know even her name before she had written it down to receive payment. They had simply found her exploring some ruins in Southern Thanalan and invited her to accompany them.

The next official record of the young Au Ra comes from the Pugilist's Guild in Ul'dah. The receptionist of the guild reported adding a "Miynmekh Qestir" to their records, though the receptionist noted in the margins that the Au Ra was in the company of a feisty and flamboyant Miqo'te member of the guild and that not only did the Au Ra not appear overtly interested in the instruction that followed, but she additionally did not follow-up with the guild afterwards for continued training.

Relationships

Family & NPCs
Parents
Ajinai Qestir: Mekh's mother. A taciturn woman with a talent for weaving who specialized in woven fabrics.
Tömörbataar Qestir: Mekh's other mother. A fierce woman who trained Miyn in the bow.
Khogaghchin Qestir: Mekh's father. Often away traveling throughout the Steppe or Doma.
Siblings
Seruuntungalag Qestir: Mekh's oldest brother. Technically her hunting partner by birth order, never in practice. When she was 15 or 16, he left the Steppe for a Doman woman and has not returned home since. Presumed dead.
Jaliqai Qestir: Mekh's other older brother, and the one with whom she got along best.
Eke Qestir: The oldest female child of Mekh's younger siblings. Passed away at an early age. Has a daughter, Suvdkhi Qestir. Her death is a sore subject for Miynmekh.
Tsenxer Qestir: The middle-born daughter of Mekh's younger siblings.
Cirina Qestir: The youngest daughter of Mekh's younger siblings.
Degei Qestir: Mekh's only younger brother, who passed away as an infant before earning his proper name.
Others
Samga: The "Chosen" of Mekh's brother Jali.
Suvdkhi Qestir: Eke's daughter. Mekh is unusually protective of the girl, though not above sending her off for hunting or training tasks that might appear dangerous to the Eorzean eye. (Note: Most people are under the impression that Suvdkhi is Mekh's sister, not her niece.)
Dashun Dotharl: Hot-headed and impulsive, when his older brother introduced him to Miyn and Jali, the two younger Xaela were at instant odds. Over time, this morphed into a close platonic relationship. For various reasons, he is also especially close to Suvdkhi Qestir, though, like Miynmekh, he dislikes discussing Eke's death.
Wakiko Nagae: Also known as "Wako." Mekh's roommate and acquaintance who looks after their house. Can usually be found upstairs in her room reading.
Rhapsody
Zansei Asano: Although it is certainly a good thing to have someone in her life who holds her to account, Miyn would sooner dine with an Imperial soldier than admit to it...okay, perhaps not that far. Regardless, while her pride chafes at the condescension and arrogance from the Raen samurai, inwardly she appreciates his concern for her safety and respects him as a fellow comrade-in-arms.
Thya Burwani: Pragmatic and capable, there's little and less that Mekh dislikes about the Miqo'te keeper, whom she views as a kindred spirit. Sharing similar upbringings and thus similar outlooks, it's rare for Mekh to disagree with the keeper on anything--Nella being a clear exception.
Momone Mone: Miyn's not really sure what to make of the diminutive defacto leader (no matter how much the Lalafell might protest that she is not) of Rhapsody. On the one hand, she is a Lalafell, and experience has taught Miyn that they are concerned with little other than lining their own pockets at the expense of others. On the other hand, the woman has been naught but warm and forthcoming with the sharing of her resources.
Simeon Sibareuse: Miyn originally had trouble deciding if the sarcasm-filled Dhalmel was a genius or a fool. It should come as little surprise that the elezen thus refers to her as "Ankle Kicker" (though "Shin Kicker" would be more accurate). Despite being no closer to a decision on his mental capabilities, she can find no fault with his survival instincts, finding herself in agreement with the pathfinder on multiple occasions of late. His snarky attitude certainly helps with her generally favorable impression.
Cedrick Slovahl: Despite initially getting on very well, an incident involving her niece left Miyn furious with the retired Maelstrom officer. When distressed or in a combat scenario, she still prefers his company to that of most others. A recent soiree with a certain thick-skulled Blade has alleviated this slightly.
Haruka Suijin:
Claisent Vaucotier:
Arai Yoruichi: Despite his social proclivities, Miyn finds the Xaela to be both resourceful and capable, far more so than many of the others who frequent the Cafe.
Dusk
Nergui Halfsight (Bulasin): Although the young male Xaela displays little and less of his Steppe heritage in his behavior and habits, Miyn sees him as a little brother and is thus not above pranking or teasing the young man.
Yisutei Dotharl: The sibling of her close friend Dash. Though nowhere near as close with the woman as her niece is, she finds the woman capable and reliable and gets on with her in much the same fashion as other Dotharl.
Batzorig Kahkol: A Xaelan warrior taken in by the Kahkol who is working towards uniting members of the clan living in Eorzea in hopes of resolving issues pertaining to the Steppe. Mekh couldn't care less about his goals, however, and is instead only interested in the cultural environment they can provide for her niece.
Eke Kahkol: A young Xaelan shaman-in-training who accompanies Batzorig, Miyn views the teen as both a good role model and a friend for Suvdkhi. Because of this, she tended to keep a watchful eye over the girl when their paths cross although Eke has since returned home to the Steppe after completing her trail.
Others
Sabi Asagao: If anyone could find fault with the gentle Roegadyn, it would of course be Miynmekh.
Astrid Byrde: A Hyuran huntress of the Dravanian wildlands and fellow archer (among other things), Miyn looks on Astrid favorably despite the large age gap between the two, viewing her as both competent and reliable in the field.
R'nella Eren: Mekh would like nothing more than for Nella to drop off the face of Hydaelyn. As this seems increasingly more and more unlikely, she instead remains frustrated by the ginger miqo'te's insistence that her life choices were the fault of the world at large rather than of her own making.
Calamity Janine: A flamboyant miqo'te fond of purples and golds, Miyn has in the past gotten along well with Janine. Lately, she has avoided the woman's company, however, after an incident with Kallius involving her niece--a task made easier by the miqo'te's occupation with other matters.
Briardien Miraudont: Although she finds herself frequenting the Iron Lynx less and less of late, Miyn considers the elezen doorman both trustworthy and reliable, though downright unsettling when he happens to raise his voice or swear.
Kira Moravvi: Most of the respect Mekh has for Kira comes solely from the nature of her being Thya's chosen and the fact that both Eke and Suq like the woman. That being said, the few encounters she has had with the woman have been favorable.
Kesa Onca: A miqo'te woman formerly associated with the Immortal Flames and involved with Nergui's sister, Enkhtuyaa, Miyn enjoys the woman's company but frequently finds herself not as fond of the company she keeps. Despite this, she has willingly entrusted Suvdkhi to the woman in the past and views her as a trusted ally.
Kallius Thr'gant: Despite rocky beginnings, Miyn and Kallius were progressing towards friendship, helped along not only by his relationship with Janine, but also from an ambush in Ul'dah where he defended her after a failed attempt on her part to bail on him when things started looking badly, likely saving her life in the process and later lying about the events to protect her pride. Unfortunately, a series of incidents involving her niece damaged their budding friendship, leaving the highlander squarely on her bad side for several moons. Even so, due to the events in Ul'dah, she would still have fought at his side if she felt he was in danger. Recent actions on the Blade's part have gone far in mending the damage done.
