Glass-circle.png Overview

Kotone Shimayasu

Shimayasu no Kotone is a Raen of the Au Ra race who primarily resided on an island well off the shores of Othard’s mainland. A member of a deeply spiritual and reclusive group of Raen who have been long known for their skills and abilities in the healing and aetherical arts, those who once lived on the island have been forced to leave their home as the landmass began to sink below the waves. Scattered to the winds, most of their numbers have integrated easily into societies on the grace of their arts, and Kotone has wandered Eorzea in search of her place as well.

The Shimayasu Raen are a peaceful sort whose main source of income is built through their healing abilities, which they believe are gifts bestowed on them by their deities. In addition to this service, which they give regardless of race or creed, they peddle their wares; fish, rare herbs, pearls and gems, and even jewelry fashioned from bones, shells and corals. Primarily healers in nature, their physical fighters are few and far between, instead preferring to rely on their aetherical magics.

A polytheistic group, each Raen tends to choose a patron deity of their own, with whom they form a devotional bond while still maintaining the ceremonies and tributes for the others. Kotone’s patron deity represents the elements of water and air, and through her, Kotone believes her healing capabilities are increased. Her reverence for this deity, though it is unnamed, is one of her anchors and she never misses a moment of communion, often traveling several malms to find the perfect spot along the sea where she can perform her ceremonies.

History

Glass-circle.png History

Past

Past

As a child, Kotone began her life on the Shimayasu Isle just after her third nameday. Taken in by a fisherman's family even through the care of the island healers, Kotone spent several years fighting against traditions and expectations that were settled on her shoulders as the daughter of a prior healer. At eight summers, she drowned off the shore of her island home in an attempt to reach the one she was born on, despite having no memory of the island or either of her birth parents.

It is during this event that Kotone first came into contact with the spirit that she would later take as her own. Her death was authentic, and it was through both the spirit's efforts as well as those who rescued her that she was revived. Even so, she suffered damage that not only resulted in a massive personality change, but opened her up to the ability to sense spirits and their energy.

At ten summers, she began the training that would eventually lead her to becoming one of the island's healers. At sixteen summers, she underwent the ceremonies for coming of age, and formally took the spirit of the sea as her own – an act that caused her death once more. Reborn by the power of said spirit, Kotone assumed her place not only as a healer, but a young woman whose capabilities outstripped all but a few of those who called the island home.

At twenty-two summers, Kotone was forced from her home as the island finished the sinking that had started sometime in her twentieth summer, leaving her the apparent last of the Shimayasu Isle. Over the next seven years, she made her way through several lands, paying her way with her healing abilities and performances until she made landfall in Eorzea.

Personality

Nature & Demeanor

Nature & Demeanor

Reserved and rather quiet, Kotone is easy to miss simply because she chooses to remain out of the spotlight. Her motions and movements speak far more than she herself does, each flowing effortlessly into the next, though none without purpose. This habit of not speaking has given her speech a somewhat slow and soothing rhythm when she does speak, though often it is confused with a language difficulty.

Kotone regards the world with a degree of patience one might find only with a mother of several wayward children. She dislikes treating anyone differently based off of hearsay, and shows little in the way of carrying gripes or grudges. She is an easy shoulder to lean on, and never seems to think twice about offering advice to those who might need it – provided they ask.

She can easily be seen as someone who is lonely, though she’ll never utter a word that might confirm such. While she was once difficult to bring to a full smile and her laughter was rare, the quiet woman has bloomed beneath the tending of her coworkers and friends, and she melds with the crowds and shows no fear in laughing or showing her emotions on her sleeve.

Appearance

Glass-circle.png Appearance

Kotone’s active early life has given her a body that is fit and feminine, her height slightly smaller than her race’s average. She bears the pale scales of the Raen sub-species, though these deviate from the norm by being an odd mix of firm and leather-y, depending on location. Her pale skin is relatively unmarked save for a few long-healed signs of an active childhood on her feet and knees, but she’s otherwise quite well-kept.

She lacks the rings in her eyes that most of her kind often features, and while she lines her eyes in dark colors, she shows an aversion to any more color than that. Where some of her compatriots may spend bells with make-up, Kotone’s highlight is the lengthy hair she bears, and the intricate braids that she chooses to keep the loose locks in. She often decorates the silver-white strands with shells or beads, choosing colorful and pretty items that catch her eye rather than those of any value.

While neatly kept, Kotone favors light clothing that still covers her modestly. If the weather is particularly warm, she may dress down in light colored fabrics – usually in blues and greens. It’s rare to see her in decorative, heavy or gaudy clothing outside of ceremony or if it’s been gifted from a client. Rare as well are any dark colors – she seems to have an aversion to them, even in her favored hue.

In contrast, she goes to considerable lengths of preparation for her ceremonies, tributes, and rare performances. Her scales are painted with an iridescent dust that makes them shimmer, and it is usually the only time that she is seen dressed in so little. While she maintains a fresh-faced appearance, a little color on her pale skin is more evident on the lids of her eyes and her lips.

All bets are off when it comes to her performances and hosting with other companies. Kotone throws herself into themes with a wild abandon that amuses most and inspires others. She has already begun to amass quite the collection of costumes and wigs, and delights in modeling them for friends if they wish.

Talents

Glass-circle.png Talents

Abilities

Abilities

Kotone is a skilled healer raised on the foundations of spiritual, physical, and sexual healing. At her disposal are several types of holistic remedies that range from herbs and teas, to full-contact therapies. Additionally, her conjury is strong enough to lend aid to those who might not hold with her own beliefs.

As part of her culture and faith, she also holds the ability to manipulate – but not create – the elements of water and air. This she does rarely, because of how taxing it is on her without proper preparation. Often, she collects crystals that bear the elements themselves, which helps ease the load on her. These are commonly woven into her regalia in some manner when she knows she will be performing.

Kotone is a skilled musician and dancer, and while she can sing quite well, rarely does so. She has easily picked up the skills to be a capable hostess and entertainer, and enjoys working outside events to learn more of the people inhabiting the land she has come to call home.

Combat

Combat

While Kotone prefers to avoid violence whenever possible, she is capable of holding her own with fairly basic offensive conjury with a preference towards wind and water aetherics. Generally, she will attempt to bind or slow attackers so that she might flee, rather than face them head on.

When forced into action, however, she shows a healer’s aptitude for knowing where best to strike to cause the most injury with little energy expelled.

While unknown to the broad populace, Kotone's skills with weaving aether into dangerous patterns has come to a head in a recent altercation with pirates off the shores of La Noscea. Very nearly a full-blown storm witch in her own right, Kotone has shown herself capable of manipulating air and water as elements themselves and not simply the aether corresponding to each. Additionally, she bears absolutely no restraint in creating, manipulating, and even controlling lightning.

Her skill with twisting the elements to her control makes her an incredibly lethal adversary whose moral code in regards to bloodshed becomes skewed when her emotions are compromised. While she will ultimately attempt to give those who have wronged her a chance to repent, when the woman feels as though this chance is being wasted or refused, her retribution borders on near-torture instead of a quick release.

When a client worried for the wandering healer’s safety, his kind directives took her to the doorstep of the entertainment company. As the months have gone on, Kotone has found a comfortable place among the other members of the Elysium, working both as a hostess for events and a performer for shows.

Family (NPC)

Family (NPC)

Kentarou 1.png
Kentarou Hiyaki
Father

A second generation warrior-caste from an island fairly distant from the Shimayasu Isles, Kentarou won his place at the side of his General following the defeat of an invading Dotharl contingent. When he declined the offers of the General's daughters, he was given the choice of a handful of island women. It was during a celebration on a neutral island where he met Misa, and spent many moons traveling between the two islands to observe the Shimayasu culture while courting her. When they were bonded, they returned to his home island. Kentarou died during a Garlean attack.
Misa 1.png
Misa Shimayasu
Mother

A talented songstress and fisherwoman of the Shimayasu Isles, Misa was a latecomer to the healing ways and never showed much aptitude in the way of the healing magics that lay dormant in most of those native-born to the island. She was, however, lauded as a beautiful woman with a kind heart who knew well the value of companionship, and her songs and dances were just as much about the healing process as they were the entertainment. While initially disinterested in Kentarou, his gentle persistence and kindness toward others won her over. Misa returned to Kentarou's island, returning only once with him to give over Kotone, and then leaving forever. She gave Kentarou a son, and was pregnant with their third child when she died in a Garlean attack.

Tamotsu Shimayasu 💗
Best Friend; Guardian

A few years older than herself, Tamotsu and Kotone forged a fast friendship that served as her support when she was handed over to the care of the Shimayasu healers. When Kotone pressed forward into becoming effectively a miko, he did all that he could to not only become a warrior, but her personal bodyguard. He did harbor deep feelings of love for the woman, and perhaps far too late – she would realize the same. He was the last on the sinking Shimayasu Isle, assisting Kotone in the ceremony for the fallen. As far as she knows, he did not make it off the island alive. He may very well have.

Spirit of the Seas; Patron Deity

Little is known about the individual spirits that inhabited the Shimayasu Isle, and many were known to be non-native. At a coming of age, each member of the Shimayasu culture would take a spirit in as their patron – generally one that reflected their work in some manner. Their names were uttered only to those they bonded with, and they would remain a massive part of the lives of those who worshipped them. They were akin to family members, more than masters. As a spirit with the command of three elements, Kotone's reverence for, and her acceptance by, the sea spirit played a crucial part in raising the woman's status in her society. Even with the Isle gone, Kotone's worship of the spirit is an immense part of her life, and comes with several benefits – most of which have yet to be revealed. While the spirit manifests in various ways depending on when and where she is called, she is primarily seen as a dragon-form of mist.

Likely Kotone's closest friend within the Elysium, the two have formed a romantic bond that is new to each of them and terrifying for that reason. While the pair have already experienced friction in their relationship, the lessons that each have learned have helped to form a stronger bond. Kotone's devotion to the woman exists not only romantically, but platonically – one of the performer's staunchest supporters as the woman climbs the ladder of fame.

Alecxel Odescorn
Patron; Kind Heart, Battered Soul

One of Kotone's closest friends, Alecxel has continuously made himself to be one of her staunchest supporters in her travels and in her work. Their meeting during an Elysium date auction spurred an interest in teaching her the basics of Eorzean language and a deep affection on both parts. Though she cannot often return to his home due to her work taking her to various places, she has no doubts whatsoever that she is always welcome and safe in his company.
Arelian 1.png
Arelian Atiyeh 💕
Patron; Old Wolf, Sharp Fangs

A chance meeting at the Elysium introduced the two, and their relationship was primarily that of masseuse and client for some time before feelings became mutual and they both accepted the deeper bond that had wound itself around them. Their relationship is remarkably easy-going, with little needed to be said for either of them to understand one another. In Kotone, Arelian has gained a steadfast companion whose affections are selfless and her passion unrestrained.
Paradyme 1.png
Paradyme Capellago
Patron; Sweet Heart, Shattered Spirit

Hired to tend to his physical pain, Kotone and Paradyme became fast friends who spend a great deal of time together. He is supportive of her work as an entertainer of Elysium, and often turns the gifts of the sea she brings him into one-of-a-kind jewelry for her to wear, knowing how fond she is of shiny items. She cares immensely for him, often checking in to make certain he has eaten or slept. He usually hasn't.
Ryanti 1.png
Ryanti Veanysus
Patron; Rapier Wit, Intelligent Soul

After having met at a Crescent function, Kotone did not quite expect to see the well-mannered man again. Much to her surprise, he remains a close friend whose attractions to her are returned in a mutual manner. Even so, the bulk of their business is purely that – business. As personal healer to the businessman, she is typically seen around him more to leave gifts and baskets of treats to surprise him.

Roleplay

Roleplay

IC Frequency: Kotone is primarily a role-play character with little intention on progressing her through PvE content at a quick pace. If you see her, she is IC – if you’re uncertain, just whisper!

Character Injury: I’m pretty good at tormenting my own character, but in the event of an altercation, know that I give permission up to, but not including, death of the character – harsher themes should still be discussed with me OOC!

Erotic Themes: Kotone’s character lends easily to intimacy and one-off’s. This is fine, and I’ve no personal issue with it. That said, I prefer such to still happen within the development of the character.

Potential Issues: Kotone is an alternate character, and while I do enjoy playing her, at the moment my other characters are far more involved. As a result, Kotone may be harder to catch outside of company events – but I will happily trade information should a player be interested in catching her.

Interactions Listing: Kotone’s interactions are broken up due to how she interacts and thinks. They are by no means kept updated in their entirety – chances are that they’ll only be updated once every couple of months.
