Character

Backstory

Sarina was born in a small tribe of Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te under the name S'rana B'yiht, residing in a small settlement to the north of Gridania along with her mother, father, and older sister. Yet her time in that tribe was cut horribly short. Barely a few days after her third birthday, the tribe's settlement was attacked by a group of marauding bandits from the deserts of Ul'dah. They laid waste to the entire settlement- murdering the men, savaging the women, and capturing every child they could find to sell off to slavers. Through some miracle, Sarina had been spared from the onslaught, and was soon left quivering in fear underneath what was left of her home.

A few hours later, the pillaged settlement was discovered by a pair of Hyur hunters, and the horrified Sarina was taken to the safety of the Gridanian capital.

For some time, Sarina remained under the care of the two Hyur hunters that had rescued her. Deciding it best to take the young child in, despite not knowing her name or anything about her, they decided on the name "Sarina Alyne"- a subtle reference to a forgotten hero from times long passed. From that point, Sarina lived out most of her childhood in Gridania- where she developed a love for reading, writing, and painting. Having been so young when her family and tribe was slaughtered, she couldn't quite remember the details- yet horrible nightmares continued to plague her every sleep.

In her early teens, Sarina began to train with the local Conjurer's Guild with the ultimate goal of helping and healing those in need. That single goal excelled her through the training, and when she was at last deemed fit to depart the guild, Sarina bid farewell to her adopted parents, enlisted in the Order of the Twin Adder, and began to adventure outside of Gridania- a profession that had started to grow in popularity. It was during her adventures that she met a certain Hyur man enlisted in the Maelstrom.

Over time, Sarina and that man became rather close- even traveling and fighting alongside each other during their careers as adventurers. It was only natural that love began to bloom between them.

With her newfound lover at her side, Sarina pressed forth on her journey- helping and healing those in need both on her own, and under the command of her Grand Company. Nearly a year after departing Gridania, she received word that both of her adopted parents had been killed in a tragic hunting accident in the South Shroud. It was brutally difficult for the conjurer to accept, yet with the support of her lover, Sarina managed to press on. It was only the appearance of the lesser moon, Dalamud, and the threat it soon imposed on all of Eorzea that strayed Sarina from her path.

Until that point, Sarina had mostly avoided direct combat one way or another- however, with the sudden threat of Dalamud crashing down, she knew there was no avoiding it any longer.

The Fall of Dalamud

Like so many others, Sarina enlisted to join in the Battle of Carteneau- and put her abilities to work ensuring her fellow soldiers in the Twin Adder, Maelstrom, and Immortal Flames were healed as they waged all-out war against the forces of Garlemald. Throughout the entire battle, she stayed close to her lover's side- healing not only him, but as many soldiers as she possibly could. Yet, the fall of Dalamud brought forth an even greater threat than the Garlean Empire. The Elder Dragon, Bahamut, emerged from the fallen lesser moon- flames of rage surrounding the primal as it started to lay waste to everything in sight.

Sarina had frozen on the spot upon seeing Bahamut- her feet refused to move, her form still, her expression remaining static even as a pillar of fire and shards of Dalamud fell toward her. Before she knew it, Sarina was shoved aside- tumbling down a small hill before she was left to watch helplessly as her lover- the only person she had grown close to in all of Hydaelyn, was crushed and incinerated. The sheer shock of what she saw sent the conjurer into a state of unconsciousness, her form still even as the chaos ensued on the Carteneau Flats.

After the Fall

Sarina awoke a few days later, drenched in sweat, covered in lacerations, bandages, and bruises inside a makeshift clinic for the few soldiers that had survived the bloodbath. It took her only a few moments to remember what had happened, and she nearly shrieked out in horror- the scene replaying in her head. The tears followed, and didn't stop for what felt like hours. He was gone. The one person she had left in the world was gone.

Sarina spent the next few months encompassed in a shroud of depression and misery, yet somehow, she managed to find the strength to carry on without the one person that had given her strength. She returned to what she knew best- adventuring.

Current

Sarina remains one of the many adventurers throughout Eorzea, and spends her days exploring, helping those in need, and writing- one of the few childhood hobbies she continued even as she grew into an adult. When not out adventuring, she can often be found in the Carline Canopy in New Gridania, The Drowning Wench in the Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks, or The Quicksand on the Steps of Nald in Ul'dah. Occasionally, she may also be found in the Golden Saucer or in Costa del Sol.

Appearance

Sarina is a short Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te, standing at about five feet tall. She has long, shoulder-length golden blonde hair, a blue left eye, and a red right eye- with a scar across her right cheek. She is often seen wearing a Regal Purple Cashmere Robe of Healing, along with a Regal Purple Cashmere Skirt of Healing, and a pair of Acolyte's Thighboots.

When doing official work for the Order of the Twin Adder, Sarina can be seen in the standard Gridanian Officer's uniform.

Personality

Sarina carries about a rather calm and serene demeanor, and is rather reserved when meeting somebody for the first time. Due to her complicated past, she finds it extremely difficult to become close or attached to anybody, and as such, mostly keeps to herself. She is also extremely selfless, and will almost always put others above herself. Despite her seemingly innocent and somewhat friendly demeanor, Sarina is constantly dealing with her own demons, and dips in-and-out of depression on a constant basis. Her past haunts her, and despite trying to hide it, it shows.

Combat

General

Sarina brings all the usual abilities a highly skilled Conjurer would know into combat, along with a few forgotten spells that she spent a considerable amount of time researching when she was younger. Additionally, thanks to the moderate amount of time she spent in the respective magic schools of Limsa Lominsa and Ul'dah, she is able to use a few non-Conjurer spells.
