Character

General

Summary: Born in a small settlement of Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te in the Black Shroud, Sazhi'to had a relatively peaceful childhood. His mother was a huntress, his father a mage, and one of the more far-wandering males in the area. At just four years of age he was already reading, and by seven his father's influence nudged his interest towards the arcane. He quickly displayed a natural affinity with interracting with the Aether, and by ten he was immersed in every book or scroll he could get his hands on, many of which were in fact borrowed by his father from the library in Limsa Lominsa, and meant for students twice his age.

While his father wandered freely, Sazhi'to was urged quite strongly by the females of the tribe to stay close, particularly due to the increasing tensions between the Keepers and Gridania's Elezen. That changed at the age of seventeen, when he was finally able to properly summon forth both aspects of Carbuncle. Satisfied that he could keep on the right path of study, his father brought him along on his next wandering to Limsa Lominsa, taking him to the Arcanists' Guild itself to study alongside other mages first-hand.

Less than two full years later, however, the conflict with the Garlean Empire reached the breaking point. As Eorzea's forces martialed for a final resolution, Sazhi'to and the other young members of the guild were ordered to stay within the city to assist with civilians and maintain order.

His father was killed at the Battle of Carteneau while assisting with the retreat of a pinned down medical team. At the same time, the massive damage to the Black Shroud impacted his home, and he lost his mother, older brother, and younger sister in the ensuing destruction. His older sister, Mholi, had been in Gridania at the time, studying archery, and was waiting for him when the fires finally abated.

Neither one of them was able to cope particularly well at first, each silently blaming the other for their perceived inaction, though this faded over time, they still only keep in contact occasionally.

Despite this, or perhaps because of it, he has reaffirmed his determination to help others whenever, wherever, and however he can. In this vein he has since taken to learning about as many different skills and subjects as possible, from fishing to carpentry. More often than not he will be so absorbed in one thing or another that he will go without rest for days at a time. Those who express concern over this behavior are simply waved off and assured that his apparent disdain for sleep cames from a desire to learn more to help more.

Distinguishing marks:

• Traditional Keeper markings in an "inverted double fangs" pattern on each side of his jaw, and matching single-fang marks on each cheek bone.
• Dark bags under his eyes which none of his acquaintances can remember seeing him without.
• A thin scar, only about four ilms long, at the top left of his abdominals. Not immediately noticeable.
• An arcane seal is literally etched into the skin at the base of his neck, about three ilms in diameter.

■ Despite appearances, he suffers from nightmares brought on by a lingering feeling of Survivor's Guilt over the deaths of his family members. While he can rationalize the why of it, often he will put off going to sleep in the hopes that when he does sleep, it will be without dreaming.

■ While just like most Miqo'te he was raised in a predominantly female environment, he generally behaves in a passive manner with women, and has trouble dealing with assertive women especially.

History/Timeline

  • 1553 - Born in a northern Black Shroud village to huntress Sazhi Bajhiri and wandering scholar Khot'a Jinjahl.
  • 1564 - Successfully summons an emerald Carbuncle for the first time. Begins studying advanced aetheric theory.
  • 1566 - Younger sister Kinireh is born.
  • 1570, 4th Umbral Moon - Successfully summons a Topaz Carbuncle for the first time.
  • 1570, 5th Umbral Moon - Demonstrates his magic proficiency to his father during one of his visits and they leave together for Limsa Lominsa and the Arcanists' Guild to continue his education.
  • 1572 - Conflict with the Garlean Empire comes to a head at the Battle of Carteneau. His father Khot'a Jinjahl is slain in battle while assisting a medical team.
• 7th Umbral Era
  • 1, 1st Astral Moon - Sazhi'to returns home to the Black Shroud with the news of his father's death, only to learn that his mother Sazhi, brother Sazhi'a, and sister Kinireh have all perished in the destruction wrought by Bahamut during the Calamity. The loss, and extended separation between him and his surviving sister Mholi proves to be too much for the two, and they suffer a falling out, each blaming the other for failing to rescue even one family member.
  • 1, 2nd Umbral Moon - Leaves the Black Shroud to return to Limsa Lominsa, and begins studying an ever widening array of subjects and skills.
  • 5, 5th Umbral Moon - Invited to study with the wizards of the Ivory Tower, and is apprenticed to Arcanist/Archaeologist K'hane Tariq.
  • 6, 1st Umbral Moon - Promoted to the position of Journeyman Wizard within the Ivory Tower.
  • 6, 1st Umbral Moon - Sazhi'to and K'hane pledge themselves to each other as life-mates in a traditional ceremony.
