General Information

Seselia is a young tinkerer and inventor, always working on some new gadget or gizmo. The daughter of a well known Thanalan train station mogul, she grew up surrounded by the hum of trains and the whir of machinery. It was little surprise then when the girl declared that she wanted to be an engineer when she grew up, designing bigger and better machines that might revolutionize the world. A gifted student, Seselia was particularly adept at studying mathematics, the numbers coming naturally to her in a way that just made sense. Recognizing his daughter's potential, Seselia's father made preparations for Seselia to enroll in one of Ul'dah's most prominent engineering universities. Seselia showed no signs of slowing down, quickly mastering the many topics of theory and design taught in the school. She graduated from the university with some of the highest marks and set to work on designing theoretical machines that would buck the traditional standards set by some of the more established engineers in her field.

Seselia would spend many years pushing the threshold of what she thought was possible. Her designs were highly theoretical, if not outrageously fantastical. Many of her peers began to disregard her ideas as unrealistic whims of fancy, lacking practical purpose. Regardless, she would spend many months creating designs and schematics for many varieties of machines from trains to toys. Of particular note was a personal scooter she designed that was powered not by coal or ceruleum but by lightning crystals. This achievement marked the first of many inventions she would develop, though her other successes were much smaller in scale.

Seselia spends most of her days split between working on her ideas, researching new knowledge, and helping with the maintenance of her father's train fleet. She dreams of inventing a method of transportation that will allow her to explore places that haven't yet been travelled, and see wondrous sights the mind could not begin to imagine.

Appearance

Locks of cyan adorn Seselia's head, hints of lavender highlights visible if one looks closely. Her violet eyes are generally the first thing most onlookers notice, as she tends to stare at whatever person or thing she is analyzing. As far as Dunesfolk go, she stands nearly three feet tall with a surprisingly pale complexion for one who has lived in Ul'dah; the result of one too many days spent inside tinkering with various devices. Heavily nearsighted almost to the point of being blind, Seselia is almost never seen without her glasses on.

Bucking the expectation of most inventors, Seselia appears quite well-maintained. She takes particular pride in her appearance, her clothing and personal workspace being neat and tidy at nearly all times. Her attire is mostly functional, though she has been known to occasionally don something colorful when the mood strikes her.

Early Life

Childhood

Seselia is the daughter of Vovoteno Fatateno, a well-known train depot manager. An only child, she was rather lucky to be born into a family with a stable home environment and relatively comfortable lifestyle. A quiet and inquisitive child, she spent much of her younger years playing by herself or spending time with her mother while Vovoteno tended to the day-to-day affairs of his trains. Not particularly mischievious but naturally curious about many things, Seselia often spent much of her childhood performing simple experiments to learn how the world worked. Everything from basic manipulation of crystal shards to simple engineering concepts, Seselia was seen as a bright child prodigy which brought much pride to her mother and father. As she grew towards her teenage years, this natural curiosity manifested itself in her father's work - trains.

Quite fond of taking rides on the trains with her father, Seselia found herself fascinated by all the inner workings of the trains: locomotion, engineering, and combustion. It would not be long before her room would have many model train sets and other simple engineering toys. Her father was only too happy to cultivate Seselia's love of his life's work, sparing no expense in giving the girl all the opportunities she wanted to learn and experiment in her hobby of choice.

Adolescence

The young prodigy would grow up into a charming young woman. While her friends would titter about their budding romances and adolescent explorations, Seselia took little interest - instead focusing on more and more advanced intellectual topics. Her father sought to cultivate Seselia's interests, and made arrangements for his daughter to attend the Ul'dah Scholastic College - a place of learning for budding specialists and merchant nobles. Surprising nobody, Seselia excelled in her studies: particularly mathematics and engineering. With the resources of the college at her disposal, Seselia's young adulthood years were spent buried in tomes and falling asleep in dusty library chairs. While her intellectual pursuits would garner her the respect of many scholars and teachers, it would prove to be somewhat of a double-edged sword. Seselia's friends grew increasingly distant as they began careers in more mundane pursuits and started to find partners. Seselia hardly seemed to notice though, and soon enough she would graduate from the college with some of the highest marks in the history of the school.

Adulthood

Returning home, Seselia spared no time in creating her own little workshop where she could begin to experiment with devices and creations of her own. Her designs were of grand design, often grandiose in scope and reach. Applying the knowledge she had learned during her life, she would set to work on her first creation - a personal scooter that would be powered with lightning crystals rather than fuel. After many initial design failures, Seselia was able to unveil a prototype to her family. Impressed but hardly understanding the science behind it, her mother and father nevertheless cheered their daughter on.

She would go on to create smaller scale inventions, simple things that were more practical in application and she often sold these to nobles and dandies who were more interested in showing off the latest technology rather than how it worked. The young woman continued to innovate, drawing up grand designs for flying machines, faster trains, and even submersible devices, though even her father's resources had their limits. Unable to feasibly pursue the designs, Seselia contented herself with helping out around the train depot with repairs and other more mundane tasks in order to support her family.

Recent Times

These days, Seselia can generally be found in Thanalan, especially at the various train depots her father runs. A genius of engineering, she also takes on jobs to repair and maintain a variety of mechanical devices such as vehicles, magitek weapons, and machinist devices. Her heart yearns for a place she can go to expand on her knowledge while also affording her the opportunity to finally start work on her grander schematics.

RP Preferences:

I'm open to roleplaying with just about everyone - Veteran or novice RPer alike! Walkups are welcome and encouraged. My only three real requests are:

First - That you try to keep OOC and IC interactions separate when possible. I really prefer trying to keep character interactions in-character, and trying to differentiate when I'm talking to your character and *you* is difficult when someone constantly switches between the two without a warning. So trying to use "(( ))" tags when possible is greatly appreciated! :)

Second - I welcome almost all backstories and roleplays. If you'd like to do some sort of life-changing collaboration storyline involving Seselia, please clear it with me first so I can think about the story a bit ahead of time and make it an awesome experience for both of us! That being said, I almost never turn down playing a role in your character's development.

Third - Regarding character relationships, while I am okay with Seselia becoming - slowly - involved with somebody romantically, It would need to be something that would be built up upon many roleplaying sessions. I also want to stress that it would be strictly IC and would have it not bleed into the real world. Please respect that I prefer to keep the boundary in-game and will respond negatively if you try to make it go beyond that. Thank you! :)
