Sigyn Shieldbreaker is much as she first appears. A strong, young Highlander, dark of skin and golden of hair; often as quick to smile as she is to strike. Those kin of hers who yet dwell in Southern Thanalan know her as 'Shieldbreaker, daughter of Thunderfist, blooded on the Amalj'aa'. Her once-cheerful, almost naive demeanor which obfuscated both the wealth of discipline her parents have forged in her from childhood and the raw brutality with which she conducts herself in combat has been shirked in favor of something more stern. Though until recently she sought only to uphold her father's legacy, Sigyn's interests have taken a vastly more personal turn.

Character

General

Given Name: Sigyn Theron [SEE-gin|THAIR-in]: Though she was born Sigyn Theron, like many other Highlanders, she opted to earn her own name in combat. Never does she see cause to share her inherited surname as even those well acquainted with her family would no doubt find no significance.

Aliases/Nicknames: Shieldbreaker : Her 'blooded' name, earned in combat against a scouting party of Amalj'aa shortly after she came of age. While many assume from the title that her punches are where her power lies, it is actually her fearsome use of elbows and knees that felled her opponents then, and often still, she relies an onz more heavily on her limb-work than her fists.
Piker : Although trained in the art of lance-wielding, the nickname or title 'Piker' is actually entirely unrelated. The handle was adopted after her uncommitted fighting style came to light in conjunction with her unwillingness to leave much to 'fate'. Some say, however, that the name is better related to the powerful spearhand she often employs. This name has been readopted, at least temporarily, for her more clandestine work.

Current Residence: Wanderer

Relationship Status: Single (Uninterested)

Sexuality: Strictly Heterosexual

Religion: Follows the philosophies of the Fists of Rhalgr

Appearance

(Dance)
Height: 5 fulms, 9 ilms - Around average height for a female of her kind; neither noticeably tall nor short.

Weight: 145 ponz - Toned muscle mass takes up most of her weight, although she is yet light enough to prove an agile opponent.

Body: A swimmer build is, perhaps, the basic interpretation of this hyur's body type in regards to her abdomen. Though her height is moderate, her bone structure is long and sturdy, providing a solid foundation for corded muscles forged from a life spent training. Her shoulders are broad and lack a more feminine slope, leading down to strong arms and large, calloused hands.
Those steady shoulders are matched by a broad ribcage which in turn tapers to a relatively thin waist which provides far more of the traditional V-shape males are recognized for as opposed to the commonly coveted 'hourglass' figure. Thick hips are nigh as wide as her shoulders, leading down into powerfully muscled swells of buttocks, thighs, and calves. Even when bound her breasts are noticeably large, or at the very least dense; the size, then, obscured by her occasional choice of loose-fitted clothing.
The muscles of her body are not noticeably large when she wears her traveling or social attire-- giving the impression that she is actually rather more slender than she truly is when she moves. All her steps are graceful and quiet, supplemented with soft-soled boots and light fabrics. Even at a casual walk, her entire body is in constant, fluid motion.
Generally, Sigyn prefers a somewhat masculine stance while at rest. Legs shoulders' width apart with a slightly curved abdomen, her arms often folded over her chest. The overall intimidating posture, inherited from her stern father, has been exchanged in recent suns for something vastly more demure and feminine depending on her company.

Complexion: As many other Highlanders, Sigyn's skin is dark, tanned further to a deep caramel hue from years beneath the harsh sun in Southern Thanalan. The almost unnatural heat she exudes from her form is told in the vibrancy of her flesh; a healthy circulation flushing blood readily to the surface.
Despite her extensive unarmed combat training, her scars are numerous in recent months. Most are relegated to dark discolorations on her forearms, shins, and knuckles as she bears none on her face or body. Larger, equally clean scars are located in a diagonal from right to left side between her breasts, the top of her left shoulder, the right side of her abdomen shy of her internal organs, and in her right thigh. Smatterings of faint freckles across her cheeks and nose bridge are repeated again on her shoulders and only visible upon close inspection. Full lips are tattooed a dark black to contrast; a cosmetic application performed by her mother as she came of age. These are the whole of the artificial coloring or natural scarring she bears, although Sigyn is quick to remark that she aims to take on more decorative ink in time.
During her small coming-of-age ceremony, her father adorned her with ritualistic piercings exclusive to his particular set of beliefs. Aside from the four pairs of rings and studs that range from the lobe to cartilage of either ear, these marks are not for aesthetics; the rest easily hidden or obscured on her person, but as proof of the pain she was capable of enduring at a young age. The only one that might be spotted at any given time is the gleam of a steel barbell on her tongue when she speaks.

  • 'Tattoos': Blackened lips.
  • 'Piercings': Four sets in both ears, one in the cartilage on either side and three along each lobe respectively ; Tongue ; Three obscured piercings on her body.

Face: Many might find the young hyur attractive in the face alone. Hers is a well-sculpted visage with high cheek bones and a softly pointed chin, still flushed with the natural blush of youth. Her brow is smooth and just a touch broad, though that is difficult to perceive behind the messy fall of her bangs. Much of her 'softness' lies in and around her face, from slightly curved cheeks to a long, slender neck.
Beneath her thin, sculpted blonde eyebrows, her eyes are almond-shaped pools of emerald fringed by dark lashes. Often these eyes are dancing with amusement or burning with conviction as she has a tendency to stare, unblinking, at anything that holds her interest in either regard. Between those deep-set eyes is the bridge of a prominent, aquiline nose; clearly never having suffered a proper break in her lifetime for its perfection.
Naturally shapely lips are made fuller by the addition of traditional inks. These often spread as practiced smiles blossom, revealing the remarkably white teeth behind without reservation. She is prone to maintaining a stoic demeanor at times where somber behavior is required, Sigyn is quite animated with her facial expressions and hand gestures when comfortable.
Of late the Highlander has taken to applying rouge to her cheeks, kohl to her eyes, and paints to her lids and lips. This relatively small change sufficiently veils her less 'civilized' origins in the mesa.

Hair: Like her skin, her natural hair coloration is fairly common. The sun has bleached blonde locks to a bright gold; darker near the roots and some stubborn stands around the ears while lightening with length. Like her eyebrows, the untreated tresses stand out against her dark skin, often the first quality to draw a wandering eye towards the fighter. After an enlightening conversation with a close friend, she's elected to return to her original color; preferring it to her previous.
To the touch, her hair is surprisingly soft and silken despite how coarse the hue causes her mane appear. Once shorn short and unruly in the style many Midlander males prefer, Sigyn has since adopted a newer hairstyle; a product of some alchemy-birthed brew and a rather talented aesthetician. Her hair is preferred long though the style varies.

Fashion: Despite her previous poverty and her hardy manner of fighting, Sigyn has always adored clothing. Religiously, she once wore many old outfits, usually made of worn but meticulously well-maintained leather or light-weight fabrics of varying hues that she has become fond of but she had no qualms about looking over clothing stalls. Often the young Highlander would travel to the Weaver's guild merely to marvel at all of the newest fashions and though she does not make mention of it, she keeps a manual about fashion theory written by a famous Dunesfolk designer and complete with painted images on her person. The booklet is worn but clearly precious to her as she always handles it with the greatest care.
Of late, along with her hair and make-up, Sigyn has taken to wearing rather fine silks and brocades cut into elegant garments. This new style of dress serves to properly obfuscate her from those she once knew at a distance. She does try to keep some consideration to complimenting her skin tone but in essence; she would rather look pretty so long as the clothes she selects do not restrict her movement greatly. She aims to protect herself with her movements, not with a conservative style of dress.

Behavior

Voice: Her vocal range is anywhere from deep and rich, much like her father's when serious to a sweet soprano while singing. The traditional accent of the highlands she bears is somewhat watered down from being raised near the drastically more homogenized city of Ul'dah. When speaking normally, her r's are always rolled, a slight inquisitive tone taken even to her statements. 'Can't', 'don't', and 'won't' for example turn to 'Cannae', 'dunnae', and 'will nae'. Vowels are usually stressed, particularly her i's. Often, also, she will drop the g from verbs and sometimes nouns turning 'thinking' into 'thinkin.
the Highlander now employs a vastly different accent in unfamiliar company. This is something far more ambiguous, clean, and ever so slightly hinted with her lack of contractions and vowel-stressing to be foreign to Thanalan.
When comfortable and calm she speaks with soft confidence, employing a depth in her tones that resembles many males of other breeds. Though rare, when she is angry her voice bears a hefty amount of volume, capable of carrying quite a distance. Although one would not think to consider her thunderous by any means, she tends to venture farther towards a low, roiling growling than anything shrill.

(Cheerful)
Demeanor: Sigyn is something of an oddity with how complex her moods can be at any given moment. On the surface she may have appeared as perpetually pleasant, and while energetic, not quite as excitable as some other Highlander women to some. Of late, due to changes in her personal and social circumstances, Sigyn has adopted something of a dual-personality; half-playing the part of a polished young woman of means (complete with a lack of her native accent in favor of less contractions and exaggerated but proper enunciation) and half her usual, vastly more genuine self. Her mind is always perceptive to threats, checking the body language of others in her immediate area for changes in mood, or raging for a solid fight. While until recently Sigyn was never one that any might have considered deceptive, now as much cannot be certain to most.
Though she goes to lengths now to hide it, the fighter is empathetic to a fault. She no longer has a tendency to invest much time and trust into strangers, especially those of Highlander lineage in strong contrast to her previous approach to her brethren but she is sensitive to the changes of moods in others. The most intimidating visage of humanoids holds very little sway over her emotions. Her unwavering outlook on that which is meant to be frightening may lead others into assuming she is somewhat dense. This is simply not the case, at least not in regards to potential threats. Merely, Sigyn seeks the deeper truth beneath the look of another; her favorite method of learning another's heart being combat.
The Highlander is composed as often as she can be, exuding an aura of calm even at her most enthusiastic. Overall her personality is, much like her fighting style, rather uncommitted; appearing one way to the perception of others when, in truth, it is intentionally ambiguous. Whatever she feels in regards to any given subject is usually handled first and mulled over later, giving an air of certainty to the young and somewhat naive woman.

Quirks: Sigyn has rather few quirks. She has a regular tendency to turn her statements into questions and drop letters or entire words from sentences in order to shorten them; a shadow of her father's laconic tendencies. She also has something of an oral fixation, often carrying some form of jerky or a chewing stick, leaving her with very white teeth as a result.
Whenever she eats her favorite meal which usually consists of some sort of meat she must always break the bone to suck or scoop out the marrow, regardless of the type of animal she is eating. Her final real quirk is her incessant knuckle-cracking, which occurs at any given time for any number of reasons with her only dimly realizing the act.
A false quirk is her new tendency to play with locks of her hair or to smooth corsets and skirts. Both of these are becoming practiced motions.

Intelligence: Her father's 'formal' education has been passed down to his daughter. Her handwriting is abominable but her understanding of written language is moderately high given her poor upbringing. She is deplorable in regards to numbers and figuring, absolutely detesting the work in any form. Adversely she loves to read books, always ready to spend a coin on a decent story, though how much of any tale she retains is questionable. Confusing Sigyn for brutish or unlearned is a quick way to earn her scorn; and those who find themselves on the sharper end of her spite may discover her penchant for memorizing information is almost unnatural. If asked under decent circumstances, she might admit that this higher level of perception is linked somehow to the maturity of her chakra and not to any hereditary wisdom.
The young woman's knowledge of the basic humanoid anatomy is vastly more extensive than she belies with her enthusiastic approach to fighting. Most often she employs that wealth of knowledge while in the midst of battle out of reflex rather than active thinking. If quizzed, however, Sigyn will sometimes feign a lesser understanding in order to appear less able than she is, but only due to a sense of self-consciousness in the company of those more intelligent than she.
Likewise, the monk-aspirant's naturally high levels of empathy have given her a deeply set interest in animals. She was raised to pay close attention to many of their movements and mannerisms, but this philosophical approach has since flourished over time to an understanding of many of Eorzea's creatures. Always she seems to find and learn more, whether verbally from others or by physically witnessing new beasts' tendencies, herself. She has a broad understanding of tracking and hunting many types of animals, how to placate or antagonize, how to lure and how to repel. Recently, Sigyn's aspirations to adopt a coeurl kitten have been fulfilled; during his trip to La Noscea, Folken managed to procure and smuggle a young coeurl back to Thanalan as a gift. Naming the creature 'Storm', the younger Highlander has recently fashioned a new satchel in order to carry her fiery, new companion on her travels.

(Rhalgr)
Religion: The girl was raised, perhaps more than many other Highlanders her age, to dedicate much of her life to Rhalgr, the Destroyer. The reason for this is her father's previous status as a Fist of Rhalgr, a title and position long destroyed and tarnished even before the fall of the monkhood at the hands of their king. Though he does not openly practice the true depth of his religious beliefs and many of them have altered over time, his steadfast respect and dedication to the god has been passed down to his daughter.
Sigyn has particular views about incorporating war and destruction into her life. Preparation for war is perpetual, something she must at least consider when making any decision. Destroying, in her mind, is merely the prerequisite to creating something better. Destruction of her natural instincts, fears, desires, and compulsions and rebuilding herself with discipline is a paramount aspiration. She believes that only through battle can one know another's heart truly, testing their resolve for whatever they believe in or desire against their opponent's. She has difficulty befriending or even respecting anyone who does not actively seek to improve their combat skills, whether magical or physical, resenting those who manipulate others to do their bidding as much as those who are manipulated. A deeply ingrained dislike against followers of Nymeia and scholars can vary depending on their individual approach and personality though often she begins with distrust.
While she can never be a Fist of Rhalgr, she aims to emulate many of the monks' goals including unlocking her seventh level of chakra and reaching complete, internal harmony. By her father's personal belief, abstinence is no more required than vegetarianism, though she does fast once every two moons in order to reinforce her resolve. All is done in moderation and rather than donating what gil she has to others in generosity, she often casts whatever excess amount she has onto a street with a prayer to draw the notice of her god to how little she cares for luxuries.
One tendency that the young woman has is to become incredibly violent on behalf of Rhalgr or any of the other deities (save, perhaps Nymeia). In the face of non-believers, or more, those who speak down on the Twelve, Sigyn will often challenge the individual to a battle of honor in defense of her patron's name. If refused, she will not badger but these are some of the few instances during which she will berate another openly for their cowardice.
Recently, Sigyn has taken to studying the philosophies of Nald'thal-- equally interested both in commerce and death.

Romance: Sigyn is not well schooled in the realm of love. Before she came of age there were boys vying for her affection and in keeping with her father's wishes, he, then she, fought all of her potential suitors down. This bred a deep sense of honor in regards to love when she was a girl, raised to believe a man -must- best her in combat before she can even consider loving him romantically. Simply put, though she is capable of protecting herself a man would have to be as, if not more, capable in order for her to consider being with him.
Given her rather 'sheltered' upbringing she knows very little about pan-, bi-, or homosexuality any thus does not give much credit to falling in love with or being with other women. While she does respect and revere those lady-warriors with great skill, if propositioned she will always politely refuse their advances. She does not hold the love of others, regardless of their gender or race match ups in contempt, always admiring those who share true, pure bonds.
While she holds no scorn for followers of Menphina, she does often refer to those who are in love or infatuated as 'moon-lit' or 'moon-eyed' and sometimes takes offense when others respond in kind.

Combat

General

(Wing Chun)
Style: Though well learned in the recognizable style that most Fists of Rhalgr employed, as some others like her father, Sigyn has evolved the basics and selected forms to suit her own body type and preferences for fighting. Hers is, as mentioned, an uncommitted approach to fighting that much resembles Wing Chun, where raw power is more often than not sacrificed for speed, balance, and the ability to elude and launch precise counter attacks. In essence, her love for battle does not denote a willingness to push a fight on beyond necessity with stalling or taunting; Sigyn strikes to put her opponent down as quickly as possible unless strategy dictates otherwise.
Her specific style can be broken down into three basic categories depending on her opponent(s):
  • Smaller Opponents/Melee: For humanoids or beastkin that are 'smaller' than male Elezen, she will often rely heavily on her legs with running and long-kicks to put herself close to her opponent. As soon as she is there, her tactics become more centralized while she guards her center line and launches harsh attacks with knees and elbows in order to employ her strength against her opponent.
  • Larger Opponents/Melee: From male Highlanders to Amalj'aa, Sigyn prefers to remain on the defensive until the last moment. When she can, she will turn to a 'swarmer' tactic, rushing inside and staying nimble. She often manipulates large enemies' momentum against them in order to capitalize on her own speed with minimal energy spent. Flurries of disorienting attacks with knees, fists, fingers, and elbows aim to slow or compromise her opponent and create large gaps in their defenses.
  • Magic-Users: Simply put there is only one real way for her to best a magic-user, regardless of what kind of magic they are using. Always she is forced to open her chakra levels to unlock devastating speed and circulation of her own aether to prevent her body from taking the full brunt of paralyzing or poisoning magic. She evades what she can during the spell-casting process, moving in towards the caster until she is capable of striking. All of her attacks, then, are aimed at the head if it can be reached, the throat, heart, solar-plexus, or the groin to break her opponent's concentration rather than concerning herself with crippling them as she might a larger melee-fighter. She never aims to draw out a fight with a magic user, adopting any changes in strategy or uses of environmental weapons she needs in order to put them down. The manipulation of her own aether/chakra past the first level which increases her defense, weakens her greatly over time and thus must be used swiftly and precisely before being closed again.

(Opening Third Level)
Specialization: Close combat use of elbows, fingertips, and knees are undoubtedly her specialization. Her ability to work with her elbows and forearms to defend and shins and knees to attack is pivotal to her preferred style; able to focus her force to points and lines rather than spreading the energy out. While she will use her fists she almost never strikes palm-down. Always palm-up or vertical. Sigyn will use katarr rather than hora when a blade is necessary, and manipulates a spear much as she might a dragon staff (with short sweeps or jabs) but most often, bare-knuckle fighting is her favorite form if it is an option in friendly competition.
When using her chakra, Sigyn has an obvious preference for speed. Her movements become blurs, impact increased if only through sheer agility and a solid body. She manipulates her speed with amazing control, clearly having invested more time in broadening and honing both her physical abilities and her perception.
Strengths: The martial artist is, as many others in her particular realm of melee-work, very well-rounded when it comes to offense and defense. While normally she cannot claim to be as fast as a miqo'te or a lalafell nor as strong as a roegadyn, her strength, stamina, and especially her speed are all refined especially in close quarters. Further, her ability to manipulate the chakra (aether) circulation in her body with extreme focus heightens her abilities reminiscent of the Fists whom she emulates. The times which she can actually employ these surges in power or skill are short-lived as manipulating her aether forces her body to work beyond its safe and normalized capacity accrues temporary soreness, stiffness, and pain in her muscles and expends vast amounts of her energy.

Weaknesses: Primarily, Sigyn's greatest weaknesses are her ranged attacks. Whether against a capable lancer, archer, or magic-user, she simply does not have the capacity to attack at a distance, forced to move in close or be struck down from afar. While her reflexes render her dangerously fast in close quarters her natural capacity for running swiftly is easily outdone by a practiced archer, miqo'te, or lalafell individuals. When faced with such attackers she often resorts to beating a hasty escape if she is unable to move inside their defenses and put them down with a few concentrated strikes.
Another shortcoming of sorts is her ability to handle heavily armored opponents. When the individual she is fighting is clad in full plate, Sigyn is forced to attack only their exposed areas which tend to be some of the least vital areas on the body. Core attacks are rendered near futile, leaving her to concentrate on the femoral arteries and forcing her opponent to the ground. These matches can become dire if such tactics are not executed early on in the scuffle. In these matches and against individuals with large, bladed weapons, the use of fist-blades/punch daggers or chakra is an unfortunate necessity.
Given how relatively new she is at extensive exposure to people of other races, she maintains a terrible tendency of underestimating her opponent based on gender or race. In particular this extends to male Midlanders whom she had little to no respect for more often than not.
Weapons:
  • Fist Weapons
  • Lance/Dragon Staff

Extra

Chakra Levels: NOTE: These are her and my interpretations of the in-game mechanic based off my own reasoning and the limited resources I have on the subject as it is fairly vague.
Her father's teachings dictate the woman's desire to unlock all of the levels of chakra, or internal aether, in her body. While achieving a new level has lasting influences on her mental and emotional perceptions, opening each level for battle is short-lived, lasting as long as the fight at best. In every serious match, friendly or otherwise, always the first and often the second levels of chakra are unlocked at the beginning, requiring at least a matter of seconds to pass as she readies her body for the change. Likewise at the end of a fight unless she is knocked out or the circulation is otherwise disconnected, Sigyn goes through a similar process of closing the level again. (Included below are examples of in-game abilities with similar effects. Mind that the level at which these abilities are unlocked aren't part of the example, mostly the effect of the skill itself.)

Currently: - Developing Level Four.
Root Chakra - Innocence/Survival - Base of the Spine - The first and most basic level. Increases ability to withstand damage by 'rooting' oneself, but not necessarily increasing stamina. Long-term. (Deficiency: Sense of vulnerability)
  • Fists of Earth - Reduces damage taken by 10%.
Sacral Chakra- Empathy - Below the Navel - The second level. Increases speed of body and perception, manifesting the ability to read an opponent's intentions, allowing swifter response time. Long-term. (Deficiency: Stoicism/Introverted mentality)
  • Feather Foot - Increases evasion by 15%.
  • Fists of Wind - Increases movement speed.
Solar Plexus Chakra - Will - Above the Navel - The third level. Increases basic raw attack power in strikes by focusing aether into the muscle groups. Average. (Deficiency: Self-consciousness/Defensive)
  • Internal Release - Increases critical hit rate by 20%.
  • Fists of Fire - Increases damage dealt by 5%
Heart Chakra- Compassion - Heart - The fourth level. Allows self-healing through manipulation of the aether to revitalize the body and temporarily stave off internal or external blood loss in combat or correct minor damage outside it (one or the other, never both). Difficult. (Deficiency: Ruthlessness)
  • Second Wind - Instantly restores own HP. Cure potency 400. Cure potency varies with current attack power.
Throat Chakra- Communication - Throat - The fifth level. Allows one to use the aether in their body to temporarily harm or heal another through physical contact by shutting down or transferring one's own aether into their aetheric pathways without immediate detrimental effects. Extremely difficult. (Deficiency: Lack of faith)
  • Mantra - Increases HP recovery via curing magic by 10% for self and nearby party members.
  • Demolish- Delivers damage over time with a potency of 40. Can only be used when in coeurl form.
Third Eye Chakra- Wisdom - Forehead - The sixth level. Allows one to not only employ foresight in their immediate surroundings from direct responses but to 'see ahead' by enhancing all of the physical and the spiritual sense. Exceedingly difficult. (Deficiency: Delusion)
  • Enhanced Feather Foot - Increases evasion by 25%
  • Perfect Balance - Allows execution of weaponskills which require a certain form, without being in that form.
Crown Chakra- Enlightenment - Top of the Head - The seventh and final level. One has become entirely attuned to their body and their environment as well as their spirituality. Allows one to manipulate the aether in their surroundings through contact through the air and ground to wield the aether in their surroundings as though it were an extention of their of their own chakra. Nigh-Impossible. (Deficiency: No spiritual aspiration)
  • Howling Fist - Delivers an attack with a potency of 170 to all enemies in a straight line before you.
  • Rockbreaker - Delivers an attack with a potency of 130 to all enemies in a cone before you.
  • Arm of the Destroyer - Delivers an attack with a potency of 50 to all nearby targets.

Family

(Sundr, Sig, Idunn/Artwork by me)
Sundr Theron - 'Sundr the Thunderfist, son of Wofren Warcry' - Sigyn's father, previously a Fist of Rhalgr. He currently lives in Little Ala Mhigo with his now-wife Idunn Whitewaker. While his abilities as a monk are extremely advanced, all things considered, he rarely actively seeks to fight on behalf of a cause; the only exception being his cooperation the Ala Mhigan Resistance. Other Fists of Rhalgr, if there -were- any left for him to encounter, would consider him a traitor for having abandoned the order just before their destruction at the hands of King Theodric.
His secret lover, Idunn, whom he met some moons before during a short trip for trading from the monastery, pleaded for him to leave with her and only his newly achieved foresight (level six Chakra-user) at the time inclined him to agree. After escaping Abania Gyr the two traveled for some cycles, settling down in Ul'dah when their daughter was conceived. Word that Ala Mhigo had fallen at the hands of the Garleans one year later incited Sundr to rejoin the refugees from the city-state.
Sundr lives with a heavy burden of guilt that prevents him from travelling or even attempting to further develop his abilities. While he will fight to protect others in his community or his loved ones, he has discontinued calling himself a Fist of Rhalgr and, for all intents and purposes, he is one no longer. The conviction with which he has attempted to mold his daughter into his own image is one born of unshakable love. His aim is not to see her carry on his legacy, as Sigyn believes, but to thrive as a strong woman rather than surviving as a victim.
He harbors a somewhat abrasive, suspicious personality and dislikes citizens from Ul'dah only slightly less than people from Gridania.

Idunn Bera-Theron - 'Idunn Whitewaker' - Sigyn's mother. Trained in battle as near all others from Ala Mhigo were, she was a proficient battle-healer (shaman) from a young age and simultaneously an armor merchant peddling her father's wares. By chance alone she met Sundr at age thirteen and became as infatuated with him and he did with her. After their escape from their home, she bore Sigyn at the fair age of seventeen after their official marriage through a rare priest of Rhalgr.
Idunn is a gentle soul, unerringly caring and joyous towards the majority of people. Many of her positive traits have been passed down to her daughter, though her abilities at mending have not. She, like her husband, avoids conflict save on behalf of their small community, refraining from becoming involved on behalf of any city-state. She does, however, bear a deep hatred for the Garleans and Beastmen and when mention of them arises her otherwise constant cheeriness is banished in favor of ruthless venom. Even traitors to the Empire are not acceptable or trustworthy to her; perhaps the only individuals that the female hyur cannot abide.

Player Character Standings

Romantic Interest     Sexual Desire     Platonic Love      Good Standing     Neutral Standing     Poor Standing

Folken Grymtooth: Her travelling companion and first lover. Despite her father's reservations and encouraged by her mother's enthusiasm, Sigyn trusts this strange Highlander explicitly. While she is more than happy to fight him physically, she prefers not to argue with him emotionally, trying very hard to be perceptive to his feelings. She often tries to think of him, attempting to press him towards making new friends. Currently, Folken is perhaps the only individual that Sigyn completely and utterly trusts. Recently, Folken has gone mysteriously missing without explanation, leaving Sigyn feeling a deep sense of loss and abandonment. This has played a large role in her new choice of image.

Obsidian Hornet: A handsome female roegadyn who frequents the Grindstone tournaments. Sigyn already considers the dark-skinned woman a friend and despite any argument from Obsidian, the hyur believes she owes her a debt. She is somewhat put off by Obsidian's flirtatious nature, but still respects the roegadyn greatly. Recently, the woman's concern for Sigyn has gleaned a higher level of trust and respect from the Highlander.

Motes Bellanes: Another roegadyn woman who is, in Sigyn's view, perhaps as different from Obsidian Hornet as possible. Thus far, their acquaintanceship has undergone several ups and downs where the hyur might find her funny and amiable, or impossible to understand and downright offensive for her mentality. After an altercation in Little Ala Mhigo, Sigyn no longer seeks Motes out, instead, stewing in her deep distrust and anger towards the roegadyn.

Diarca Ovraen A miqo'te male met through Motes and Dhatura. He seems a friendly and genuine enough fellow though the fighter means to reserve her final judgement of him until she sees him fight.

Dhatura Inoxia aka Spade One of very few who have beaten Sigyn thus far during the Grindstone tournaments. Adding salt to the wound, this lancer is an Elezen-- a race that Sigyn typically does not appreciate much. She does, however, enjoy saying any number of derogatory things about or to the man around his friends Diarca and Motes. While she does have a tendency to go too far, having lost to Dhatura earns a certain level of respect from her that feeds into a minor concern for his well-being and happiness.

Berrod Armstrong: Another male Highlander. Much like Folken, Sigyn's initial trust of Berrod was based predominantly on his race and heritage, though she considers him to be something of a rival. Only recently has he bequeathed more information about his origins, or lack of knowledge about them, inciting the younger woman to decide she will help him to the best of her ability in nurturing his abilities. She worries for him. Currently the score is 1 to 1. A recent verbal conflict based on opposing views of ethics has changed, at least temporarily, the female view of Berrod. While she does not hate him, she no longer aims to seek him out as a friend.

Kale Aideron: Chief Flame Sergeant Kale Aideron is, due to a recent turn of events, Sigyn's new commanding officer in the Flame Yataghans. As a new recruit to the Immortal Flames, the female hyur had absolutely none of the etiquette for the group down, has not memorized her ranks, and is hardly professional. This seems to antagonize Kale as he already seems exasperated by her antics and naivety. Whether he realizes it or not, that exasperation is mutual. Due to recent events, Kale has redeemed himself in her eyes, but not well enough to prevent her from setting off on her own and leaving the Flame Yataghans. He has not, however, agreed to accept her resignation.

Dweia Delacroix: The Adder liaison for the Yataghans was first encountered in the airship landing in Ul'dah. Thus far, Dweia continues to give Sigyn a plethora of reasons to like and appreciate her, not the least amongst which include referring her to Kale Aideron and being friendly to Folken Grymtooth. Sigyn has revealed her new identity to Dweia and only one other, proving the depth of her affection for the young Midlander.

Rumours

Common Rumours (Easily overheard)
"'Sigyn Shieldbreaker, daughter of Thunderfist, blooded on the Amalj'aa.' Took an age to get her to introduce herself any differently." - Fur Trader
"Oh, Sigyn, is her name. Yes, she's applied here as an apprentice. She works quietly now, and smiles far less than she once did-- ah well. She does manage well." - Artisan Weaver
"Blondie's always itching for a fight." - Rowdy Pugilist
"I remember her-- used ta love ta look at them clothes. Walks right by them now. Always at the book stands, huh?" - Working Mason
Moderate Rumours (Moderately difficult to overhear)
"She asked me a few things about the Resistance recently. A woman's name, I would not share with you, outsider." Resident Elder
"She hails from Little Ala Mhigo, she says, not Ala Mhigo. Far as I can tell the only knowledge she has of our homeland is what others have shared with her."- Highlander Guard
"Good to see her style is changing. She used to defend more than she fought. Now she seems a bit more professional."- Wise Spectator
"Shieldbreaker's been gone, what? A moon? Already she comes back, her da and her are hardly speakin', and she wears the uniform of a Flame as though it were poison on her skin. What did they do to her out there?" - Bitter Refugee
Rare Rumours (Very difficult or rarely overheard)
"Bloody hells, the bitch left a crater in a solid stone wall! Why does she give a shit over a lying little waif?!"- Abusive Brass Blade
"Hear tell her da was a Fist once. That means he's got the kind of knowledge virtually lost these days that would earn him a pretty pence just for sharing-- but he hides it as though he were ashamed of it and lives as a refugee. Matter-of-fact... so does she." - Empathetic Lad
"The one thing she hates as much as an Amalj'aa or a Garlean is a corrupt Brass Blade. Never seen such a kind face contorted with that level of murderous intent. The scariest part? That anger pales in the face of what she can do to you."- Quiet Warrior
"She came looking for tales of-- well... assassins? I know, I know, it seems ridiculous, pretty thing like that asking about myths regarding trained killers. I had none to offer, though I did refer her to a few other merchants. She threw a pouch of gil at me and walked off with a picture book from the Far East." - Troubled Bookmerchant

Annotations

  • I do NOT intend to dictate how anyone else should approach a monk. I am trying to leave plenty of character flaws in place for Sigyn to grow and learn. If you hold issue to the approach I've come up with, I apologize."
  • OOC Knowledge: Sigyn does not acknowledge any of those other than hyur (mostly Highlander, less Midlander) and -perhaps- Hellsguard roegadyn as 'Ala Mhigan citizens' (now refugees). She also loathes many non-Hyur who have dubbed themselves true Fists of Rhalgr and tends to be rather insensitive about the sexuality of others. This isn't meant to be an out of character reflection of my feelings as I share none of these reservations-- but they do exist for the character.
  • OOC Knowledge: I have no intention of leaving Sigyn open to romance from anyone other than her predetermined mate. She exists primarily as a plot progressor and a combat character.
