To the delight of his masters and to the despair of his friends and family, Tachi has no sense of self-care, often ignoring injuries and hunger if it meant logging in more time training. Appearance & Personality
- Tachi has a rather normal appearance, not being entirely handsome nor entirely bland. Perhaps his biggest and most noticeable feature are the scars upon his face, with the stories behind them deep yet unspoken as Tachi prefers not to share the stories behind how he got them. His red eyes were an anomaly of sorts, but his parents took it as a blessing from the kami, and despite how alluring or mystical stories may be about his unnatural eye color, he doesn't actually benefit from enhanced vision or anything of that sort. He was raised with slight neglect and abuse from his father, but somehow he ended up having a nurturing and caring nature. As selfless as he is reckless, Tachi often makes his friends worry for his health, as he seems to prioritize improvement, training, or other people's well-being much more than his own.
- More often than not, he speaks bluntly but politely. If he is able to formulate into words the feelings and thoughts he is having, he will say so, but he is not socially tone deaf; Tachi would know if something he is thinking would not be appropriate to say. His kindness and his cheeriness are often exploited by many to swindle him of all his coin, but Tachi doesn't seem to do much against it. Rather, he is more focused on regaining said coin after he had lost it, for he felt that every person he meets deserves the same kindness and treatment.
Biography
Childhood
- Tachi's father originally stood up against the Empire when they came knocking on Doma's doors. He fought, lost, and hid away with his wife once Garlean rule had been established, and upon learning of his wife's pregnancy, Tachi's father went through countless prayers and bowed at many people's feet to obtain safe passage to Kugane, where he started anew and raised Tachi there with the tenets of the samurai. As soon as Tachi's sixth nameday passed, he was assigned an instructor who would teach him further on how to grow by the sword in place of his father, who now worked as a fisherman to feed his family. Unfortunately, Tachi's luck in instructors proved horrible, and he got one of the most bitter individuals to have walked the Earth. As a child, he was given no slack, training from dawn to dusk. He grew older hearing every day that his life is meaningless, that the way of the samurai is no longer needed. As a child, he took a great interest in the warriors of the land, and made friends with the local Sekiseigumi agents near his home. Some would even train with him when they were not on-duty, mostly finding his childish fervor refreshing from their day to day lives.
Teenage
- In his adolescent years, Tachi's sword skill was already on par with his master's, but the latter's pride refused to acknowledge his skill and kept putting him down. Tachi’s master took advantage of his student’s tunnel vision in his training that he decided to neglect teaching him much about anything else, leaving the boy to appear as if a sheltered noble. Angered by the lack of progress he seemed to be having, Tachi grew more distant. Thinking that any amount of effort done to improve himself would be fruitless in the end since his life was simply a stepping stone to whomever he would serve (as his master had taught him), he entered a trance-like depression. Each day, he settled into a routine of training, doing his usual patrols, helping his father with the fishing business, and then bathing and sleeping. Tachi found himself settling into a pattern of sleeping only four hours a day and eating one meal every other day, his body adjusting and losing much of his built up muscle and instead leaned closer to a slender and thin frame.
- Tachi found himself drifting around Kugane until he was eventually conscripted into the Imperial Army. He left home with a fire in his eyes that he could do something to change the way things were, to help govern a country who yet had a resistance movement even after over two decades of Imperial rule. He watched his fellow Domans suffer, forced to stand tall and look ahead, for he did not know of his heritage. He only knew he was of Hingashi, and that proving that he can obey orders would solidify him as a samurai, who's code was absolute. But it wasn't enough. Every single day he spent watching the Imperial soldiers abuse the villagers, every time he saw a family weeping together for the loss of a loved one who rebelled, for the trail of tears left on their faces as they watched their homes and livelihood taken away... Tachi couldn't help but regret not acting sooner, but he didn't have a chance to switch sides. He hasn't had the perfect chance to escape and help the people of Doma. Not when his superiors would beat him into a bloody pulp as a way to vent steam.
- The chance came, when the resistance overran his post. His uniform ripped apart, his sword broken, and his body torn apart, Tachi cast aside his Imperial allegiances and stood with his Doman brethren. He's only suffered slash and stab wounds, but in his fervor to help the resistance, he stood in the way of a firing squad, earning him five bullet holes in the back. At the time of that battle, his face was completely covered in blood, and he looked more like an undead creature than a hopeful young man who wanted to help change the future of Doma. Luckily, the ones he had shielded from the bullets verified and vouched for him before he was thrown away and left for dead with the other Imperial soldiers, and as he was healed, there were some soldiers who remembered Tachi as their childhood friend. He was welcomed with open arms, treated with respect to his bloodline, and finally outfitted with armor from a time long past, though with modern improvements. Despite having been spared and saved, Tachi's head could never forget the atrocities he had witnessed firsthand, and he couldn't forgive himself for being a spectator to his people's agony.
Adulthood to Present
- Tachi didn't exactly stand out as much as the next Doman freedom fighter. He fought in skirmishes, he helped out in camp, he cooked, he cleaned... He did many menial things, and while he was just another number in an crowd, he had a moment to shine during the storming of Doma Castle. During the initial rush, Tachi was knocked to his knees by an explosion from Imperial arms, and noticed a Doman soldier cornered in a nook easily overlooked due to how the walls were angled, and of course, the fog of war. Tachi grabbed his sword and rushed to his aid, but soon realized how painfully outmatched he was. Somehow, this champion of an Imperial fighter was here and picking on this one man. Tachi put on a brave face, vowed to protect this one soldier as his first kinsman he will save. He suffered in the ordeal, being tossed around like a toy by the strong Imperial fighter, but he didn't quit. With sheer will, one broken arm and the other's flesh ripped and lacerated, with his ribs broken and his face covered in blood from cuts, Tachi managed to hold on until his opponent ran on fumes. Tired and beaten, Tachi shored up all of his fleeting strength into one final plunge of his blade into the man's chest with such force that it broke the bones on his sword arm. With the deed finally done, Tachi let out a cry of victory, and helped the Doman soldier back into the fight while he retired to the rear.
- When Doma was finally freed, Tachi went home to Kugane and was welcomed by his parents with tears in their eyes. His master reluctantly took him back in and began to stall, before finally giving him the task of going to a far away land called Eorzea and establish himself there. His master chose not to tell Tachi about anything regarding this endeavor. Nothing of the travel, nothing of the people, nothing of the land, and nothing of their history or customs. Out into the wild his master cast him, and as if the kami blessed him, upon arrival to Eorzea, he ran into an adventurer called Talan Dracht, with which he developed a fast and deep bond of friendship with. He was introduced into the Mogsglaive, and found himself a place to call home away from home.
